Hello Racers.

Here is a new Test Patch, Y31. It is compatible with Y30. It contains a new translation, Bulgarian, and various fixes for issues found in Y30. Please read the full list of changes below.

You cannot connect to versions older than Y30!

You cannot upload hotlaps until Z goes official in a couple of days!

You need to unlock again if you did not already unlock Y30 and I've made sure everyone has two unlocks available


NOTE - XFR / XRR MIRROR SKIN MAPPINGS :

The XFR and XRR have new mirrors and the old mappings could not be used. An updated CMX Viewer is available in the Test Patch forum section.


INCREASED FRAME RATES :

By using the same Hardware Vertex Shading system as the car body, the subobjects (steering wheel, gearstick, brakes, mudguards, etc) now make better use of your graphics card, saving CPU time and increasing the frame rate on most computers. Those that do not experience much frame rate increase should find it is smoother and more consistent. There are small graphical improvements as a side effect of this change. You should find that the pit-out glitch is reduced as well.


REPLAY CONTROLS :

Multiplayer replays now have the same interface as single player replays.
They loop and the Escape Menu is available while watching.
Also, replay controls have been added. A timeline is visible when you move the mouse.
You can click anywhere on the timeline and the replay will go back or forward to that point.

Some new keys have been added :

1) Single frame step : ',' or '.' (SHIFT + ',' or '.' = one second step)
2) SPACE to pause / unpause during a replay (same as P)
3) ESCAPE to break out of fast forwarding
4) SHIFT + F now has 3 states if you are in a replay (the 3rd state hides everything including all messages and replay controls)


DEMO LICENSE SYSTEM :

User name and password are now required to go online in DEMO.
DEMO / S1 / S2 all appear in the same List of Hosts.

NOTE to DEMO users :

- You will need to set a GAME password at www.lfs.net to go online
- Log in and click on "account details" to set your GAME password
- You will see all compatible demo hosts and demo compatible S1 / S2 hosts

NOTE to S1 users :

- You will see all S1 and S1 compatible S2 hosts in the list of hosts

NOTE to HOSTS :

- Hosts in S2 mode - no difference, compatible, all S2 Y30 users can join
- Hosts in Demo or S1 mode - all S2 Y30 users and Demo / S1 Y30 users will be able to see your host


OTHER IMPORTANT CHANGES :

- Chinese, Japanese and Korean Translations
- All tracks now use JPG textures for adverts
- Various fixes including a South City hot lapping issue
- Full-scene antialiasing and anisotropic filtering are now supported


Changes in TEST PATCH Y31 :

Included Bulgarian translation
ENTER key now works as "unlock" in the unlocking screen
Various fixes for graphical model errors in XF / XR / FOX / FO8
Small improvements to default setups of XR Turbo / XR GTR / XF GTR
Text on racing dashboards is now all English (was mixed languages)
FIX : Changing gear shift type while driving made SPR go out of sync


Changes in TEST PATCH Y30 :

Updated interiors in XF and XR (GTR and road) cars
Formula XR and Formula V8 also have updated interiors
Wind speeds and variations are now more moderate / less wild
Moved and lowered centre of gravity in GTR cars for better handling
Lowered centre of gravity and updated rear suspension of XRT and RB4
FIX : FPS display could overlap editor keys in SHIFT+U mode
FIX : RB4 dashboard went wrong in left hand drive mode
FIX : User could spam TCP requests causing overload

Known issues :

Stray pixels at texture edges increased by AA / AF
Dedicated host does not display double byte characters
Name of active Chinese input method is not shown in Vista


Changes in TEST PATCH Y24 :

Translations : Included Croatian training lessons + Czech docs
InSim : A LAG bit is now available in the MCI CompCar structure
InSim : MCI packets are now sent at regular game update intervals
Mirrors with horizontal offset applied now stay inside windscreen
Small optimisations should reduce glitch on pit exit a little more
Success or failure message is now shown for one second after CTRL+S
FIX : Missing shine on some car parts when entering garage screen
FIX : Extreme model deformation on changing name with damaged car
FIX : Corrupted car models after quick loading with no textures
FIX : AI could decide to refuel too late at tracks with one split
FIX : Non-graphical instance of LFS would crash if AA was enabled
FIX : Host name code page error after clicking '?' in List of Hosts
FIX : LFS wrongly allowed replay after adding AI in single player


Changes in TEST PATCH Y21 / Y22 :

Improved frame rates - subobjects now use hardware vertex shading
Improved sky rendering - less distortion, small frame rate increase
Smarter level of detail calculations for best detail and frame rate
On local network hosts only - false start no longer causes spectate
Driver names are now directly above car with no acceleration offset
Controls setup now includes sensitivity multipliers for mouse axes
FIX : Invisible scenery after paused fast forward in SHIFT+U mode
FIX : Inaccurate remote cars lap time after passing a split in MPR
FIX : Look buttons and rotate view did not work during a paused MPR
FIX : SHIFT+C (controllers) SHIFT+W (sound) keys now work in replay
FIX : Replay time bar keeps its clicked width while fast forwarding
FIX : In paused replay , and . keys performed two functions at once
FIX : Autocross / drag can no longer be selected in hotlapping mode
FIX : Host name code page error after clicking name in List of Hosts
FIX : Enter pits "Could not load colours" after renaming car colours
FIX : It was possible to move the default colour slider bars in pits
FIX : Two button clicks in one frame could be bad - now not possible


Changes in TEST PATCH Y20 :

Increased maximum number of car shadows from 8 to 16
MPR fast forwarding is now approximately five times quicker
Added output frequency and slip fraction to the RAF file output
Documentation references to '<' / '>' keys changed to ',' / '.'
Replay controls appear when mouse is over them or start of replay
Connections / race positions / pedals are visible beside controls
Auto mode switching so F9 to F12 / N / SHIFT+L work even if hidden
FIX : ALT+F4 did not exit LFS from a training lesson
FIX : Command /entry did not work while watching a replay
FIX : Slider action is now cancelled on pressing ESC, T, etc.
FIX : Replay controls appeared for a moment at start of intro
FIX : Replay controls were shown during training lesson replay
FIX : Replay OOS error now breaks out of fast forwarding state
FIX : Mirror position correction was missed in load of most cars
FIX : Escape from car select screen resulted in black backgrounds
FIX : Replay destination was wrong in MPR of already started race
FIX : Could get stuck leaving a paused MPR while guest connecting
FIX : Disabled various text commands from training (including /ai)
FIX : Paused indicator is now shown when paused at start of replay
FIX : Sky / sea / default ground was black with wide screen effect
FIX : SHIFT+U visible objects list is now updated after forwarding
FIX : Ban statistic was sent when attempting to ban a host by /ban
FIX : Error message spamming when moving a default setup slider bar
FIX : Mouse look deactivated if mouse available (even if invisible)


Changes from Y to Y19 :

Replays :

Escape menu and options now available during a multiplayer replay
Replay controls & timeline visible with mouse at bottom of screen
SP and MP replays now loop unless started by /mpr or /spr commands
External replay starting now works from replay screen or in replay
FIX : Hang if escape menu was open at the end of a non-looping SPR

Licensed demo racers system :

Demo racers now need a user name and GAME password to go online
Unified List of Hosts - S2 users can all Demo / S1 / S2 hosts
Demo / S1 racers can see all hosts running Demo / S1 content
Demo racers now automatically download skins (but can't upload)

Double byte character support :

Included Chinese, Japanese and Korean translations
Selectable fonts for these languages in Game Options
Input method editor support including candidate lists
IME automatically switched on and off in text entry dialog
Input language is shown when editing text (white if IME active)
Name of active Chinese input method is shown (but not in Vista)

Translations support :

Added flags beside names of translations in Game Options
New Czech / Japanese / Simplified Chinese lesson translations
Translatable lesson names - start text file with @Lesson Name
Tips section in training can have more lines if purpose is not full
FIX : Host welcome text was displayed in local code page (now Latin)
FIX : Overlapping text in F12 menu asymmetrical settings (in Polish)
FIX : Code page error on List of Hosts after changing language
FIX : Corrupted in-game text after changing language

Interface :

Faster text drawing system improves frame rate
Separate text entry field for AI number plates
Various minor graphical improvements in the interface
Improved filter (16 bit / 32 bit / all) in Screen Options
Network debug messages are no longer sent in InSim packets
Interface improvements including updated entry screen and options
Text input box is now drawn above user messages so easier to type
Hotlapping in demo version - user name is now stored in the replay
Line breaks in help text and lesson text now depend on actual width
New game setup screen info message "X removed Y from the start grid"
FIX : Sometimes incorrect message "Road tyres on rallycross track"
FIX : Code page of text when adding a new music track in channels
FIX : OutGauge and OutSim are no longer closed by starting InSim
FIX : Info button in List of Hosts showed laps instead of hours
FIX : Wall riding was possible on soft walls at South City

Graphics :

Reduced stray pixels at edges of textures
Antialiased virtual start lights and steering gauge
Graphical and audio dynamic lod reductions are now instant
Added support for anisotropic filtering in Graphics Options
Improved control of mip bias : 4 sliders in Graphics Options
Full-scene antialiasing is now supported in Graphics Options
JPG advert textures now used in all tracks (folder : data\pic)

Multiplayer :

Dedicated host and network debug show connecting guest IP
New command /ndebug=no/yes to switch off/on network debug
New option /lytdir allows dedicated hosts to specify layout folder
FIX : Admin could crash dedicated host by mistake with some commands
FIX : False message : Your skin was not found at www.lfsworld.net
FIX : Joining a host with same name AI resulted in Join OOS
FIX : Rapid /ai command could exceed number of cars allowed
FIX : Rapid /ai NAME command resulted in AI with same name
FIX : Skin name buffer overflow exploit

Misc :

All paths (including reversed configs) now included (in SMX folder)
Improved cfg.txt Music Dir option (specifies folder for ogg files)
FIX : Low ASCII characters can no longer be read from text files
FIX : Could select invalid configuration and weather in cfg.txt
FIX : Updated car load scripts FXR.lfs and XRR.lfs (now sequential)
FIX : Removed continual memory allocations in car shadow processing
FIX : Number of AI now correctly limited when using the /ai command

Windows XP : East Asian Language Support / Font Installation

LFS does not support double byte characters with Windows 98 / ME. Windows XP and Vista should work well but you may need to install fonts.

If you have Windows XP and currently cannot see the East Asian translations, here's how to set up your computer so it works.
See the attachment - in Control Panel click on "Regional and Language Options" then under the "Languages" tab select "Install files for East Asian Languages".
Windows will probably ask you to get your XP CD and the fonts will be installed from it.

This is important even if you do not use Chinese, Japanese or Korean translations so you can see East Asian text and player names correctly when you are online.

I already said it when Y30 was released but it hasn't been fixed: If you pause the game in hotlapping or single player mode and then go to the pits (either with "esc -> pits" or with "shift+P") the "pause" message doesn't disappear and keeps blinking while in the garage screen, even if you go to the car selection screen it's still there. It only disappears when you join the track again.

my lfs patch y24 folder works great but my y31 doesnt load tracks i dont know the problem it just says lfs.exe has stop working any help??

I just had to release this test patch without fixing all known issues, as time is so tight now, best to test all that has been done, even while waiting for some more fixes.

When you look left with the default 90degrees of FOV you still see a bit of the seat "floating" (is that the word?:tilt:)
Did you note that or that's just too hard to solve:D

any solutions"shut down" isn't specific enough for anyone to be able to help you, nor for Scawen to fix the problem. Please describe the exact steps you went through to make LFS "shut down" and also report any error messages you might get.

Hi Scawen,

I noticed (in Y24) that this third state didn't hide third party's "buttons" (like LFSRelax's, in my case). I think it would be cool if it did hide those too.

If you did not have Y30 already installed, then you must use the Y_TO_Y31 patch, not the Y30_TO_Y31 patch.

Try a fresh installation of LFS.

ps: the new interiors looks amazing! All is missing now is seat belts:tilt:

Instead of wasting everyones time spamming a TEST PATCH thread:-

1) Learn how to unzip properly, it is probably this that is causing problems because you are not maintaing the correct structure of the LFS folder.

2) If in doubt re download and start again.

Sorry if I seem abrupt but it is getting quite annoying how much crap is filling these threads, including mine.

Define "crashes". Does it just disappear? Blue screen? Do you get a crash report? black screen and it says lfs.exe has stop working..

Actually, that has something to do with the FOV settings, you get the same in an open wheeler when looking left or right.

Are you sure you used the correct patch?

If you did not have Y30 already installed, then you must use the Y_TO_Y31 patch, not the Y30_TO_Y31 patch.

I started with Y24 and used the Y_TO_Y31 patch. The problem only applies to some of the tracks (see first picture). Another problem is that I can not select a non-demo car and use it (see second picture).

1. If you have an AI in the game and you join useing the same name, it causes the server to crash. It stops people joining the room, they get caught in an endless loop of join .. get joos error .. disconect .. try joining again.
This is the same pronlem as before when the game added more than 1 AI with the same name, but you can still join with the same name as your AI, and that's what's the problem.

2. Not so much a bug but the server starts with the lfs user names now insteed of the player names as it used to, is that intentional ?

What is the best FOV for a regular 4:3 screen to feel the right sens of speed? For you, the best setting is X, Y, Z at 0 m, and 0°, with 90° FOV?

Small bug (I think) which I didn't spot in Y30.

When changing the colour of the rollcage, it changes the colour of the top part of the XFR interior.

off topic, try 70° (on 4:3 its a good compromiss) and change your seat position to your favour position.... its driver dependant, you will have to find your own settings ;)

Really sorry if this was fixed, but I don't have any Y31 server admin password to try it with. But in Y24 I had this trouble twice at 22 pm:

I wanted to change weather (/weather 3) and I lost connection with the server 2 times and 2 different servers


Please, could someone try this now with Y31 installed?

I see that if I add an AI driver who has my player name (which I have already selected) then I can join with the same name. But then another guest can still join the host.

I don't know how to get it into the bad state... what exactly are the conditions for this - is it an internet host or a local network host?

I was just thinking... have you definitely reproduced that JOOS in the new patches? I've got feeling I fixed that JOOS problem.

And keep up the great work m8 :thumb:Yes that is intentional. At least the user names are always unique and in Latin code page so they can all be read on the dedicated server screen.

I wouldn't call it a feature.

I'd rather not have say red bits of interior. I'd say it's kind of acceptable if it matches the paintjob, but otherwise it looks horrible.

Please fix this Scawen. A seperate file for that interior part would make things hunky dorey.

1) did you reunlock y31?
2) on the main menu screen where it says "s2 licence" is your licence name missing?

Hi Scawen, it seems that Y31 doesn't crash the server like previous versions did. Sorry when i saw that the AI could still have the same name, i thought the joos error was from it.
But still the AI shouldn't be able to have the same name.

wat do i do?I think something I did with the unlocks was not done the best way. I'll look at it in the morning. For now, I'm sure you can fix it by clicking "Lock LFS" in the unlocking screen then unlock again. I've added two unlocks to your account.

Quick question about hotlapping:

Will hotlaps made in Y30-> be valid for upload when patch Z is released?There was a small change to the XF cars that affected physics in Y31 compared with Y30, so the short answer is no.

I don't know what we will do, it'll probably be best to just say you can only upload hotlaps made in version Z (very soon).

Scawen, and if we dont download patch Z, but a before test patch can we upload those hotlaps?... i have a crappy internet (52kps) and i wont download Z until like 3 weeks from now

Is that working well with vista?
I installed Y31 based on the common Y version.
Unlocked it but it didn't work at the first time.
Then restarted the lfs again, finally it shows me a S2 racer.
However, any car or any track of S1 and S2 can't be used,
In single player and hotlap mode, it just says no track.
In multiplayer mode, there appears a system error to exit the lfs.
I believe I will need to reinstall it to try again.

I am on Y19 (have not tried a later test patch and dont wish to at this stage), so firstly, can anyone reproduce this on Y31?
We're way past Y19, so posting bug questions about that patch is far from helpful, tbh. But anyway... the driver figure has always (as long as I can remember) been drawn in the 3D space in front of the car, with the car body deliberately removed so you can see it. It's not really a bug, just something that happens whenever you get any 3D object positioned between your view and the driver mannequin.

Scawen, I had a go at updating the XRG picture for the car selection screen (data\pic\x_XRG.jpg). If you think it's usable feel free to use it. It was a swine getting the angle right but it think it looks OK. I didn't bother with the XRT because the wheel difference is barely recognizable with the size of the pictures.

Also, I know you say patch Z is close but the back of the front seats in the XRG and XRT still have no texture (see pics). It looks a bit weird and considering the XFG back of front seats have textures and look great it seems wrong the XR road cars are just backed with black.
Will these be done in time for patch Z or for a future patch? A frivolous bug but a shame when the rest of it looks beautiful. Thanks.

2) on the main menu screen where it says "s2 licence" is your licence name missing?

I just tried locking the game then re-unlocking it, that did the trick. Thanks for the ideas.

Isn't that basically what I asked? :razz: So no, until patch Z is out you can only upload hotlaps made in pre Y30 patches. When patch Z is released, you might be able to upload post Y30 hotlaps, but not hotlaps made in older versions. But since there can still be some physics changes, best bet is to wait until Z is released before you start hotlapping.

This really has nothing todo with vista. Lfs with patch y31 works great on vista too. In fact, any version i had on vista ran fine. All errors and crashes(very rare) i had were because of bugs in lfs or overheated graphics card and not related to the OS.


I only tested the fzr until, because i read the center of grivity was lowered. It now feels more like a gtr/supercar :D Instead of the suv drive i used to be. Great! But i have to admit i haven' driven much gtr ' s since the 4wd was adjusted to be just as fast as the rwd gtr' s.(4wd gtr should be banned! or have a huge handicap)

Hey, Scawen, correct me if im wrong but i dont believe i ever got my 2 unlocks..?
i used 1 i already had to test out Y30 then i realized there were about 30 servers so i went back to y24 and i have 0 unlocks

There is a bug where when it removes the old unlock, it leaves some of the unlocking files and doesn't notice they are out of date, so some things can just go wrong if you don't unlock cleanly from scratch.

I know some people are out of unlocks due to my mistake. But rather than sit here all morning giving out new unlocks, my plan is to fix this bug and release a test patch today which needs unlocking again, and I'll give everyone two unlocks at that point.

The temp.spr created in first run is obsolete.
The dashboard in XRG and XRT is inverted when driver position is left. The revmeter and speedometer is swapped.

I wouldn't call it a feature.

I'd rather not have say red bits of interior. I'd say it's kind of acceptable if it matches the paintjob, but otherwise it looks horrible.

Please fix this Scawen. A seperate file for that interior part would make things hunky dorey.

I would think it would all be one color on a racecar (rollcage, interior, exterior), but either way, that part shouldn't be white (unless the rest is)...

I would suggest just matching it with the exterior color like we see in so many cars (http://media.automotive.com/evox/stilllib/volkswagen/new%20beetle/2005/3ha/51.jpg). ...but then why would the rollcage be yet another color?

It appears after loading a track and LFS.exe suddenly crashes and u come back to your desktop.

I hope this will be fixed in Y32 today.. ;)

the test patches are great, but I have got one thing which is a major problem to me...

the updated speedo on the UFR.

Any chance that the contrast of the rev limit light can be increased. At the moment when driving with 'real' speedo etc it is almost impossible to see the rev limit light flash up due to its dull colour compared to the gear light indicator.

I was hoping that you could change this but looking thorugh the colour options in display etc I could not find anythnig apart from using the fox dashboard back light, but unfortunately the gear indicator and rev limit are not covered by this.

Any chance this can be made a 'bright' 'contrasting' light once more please :)

Hi Scaw, a little bug:

Right click dosnt work in ride height and clutch pack differential settings.True but that has always been the case for the ride height, and the double slider bars in the garage. The reason is too long to explain now. Just so everyone knows, left click does small steps and right click moves the slider bar in 10 times steps. So you can get accurate values quite quickly even without typing.

I fear the consequences of adding a key to a bunch of screens that are used in different places in the program. usually you just dont need a speedo, maybe a rpm display but even that is useless because you hear how high you are revving and you feel how fast you are / can go.

My car (Škoda Felicia) has the speedo on the left, an the rpm meter on the right, so no it's not a rule :)

I have had many Renaults, and I can affirm that the newest ones have the speedo on the right and the older ones have the rpm on the right. Maybe in order to the co-driver can't see the speed?

The position really don't mind, is the same.

It would be more esthetic, therefore, every others cars has speedometer, gear info and revmeter. I am usual with others cars.

If your username is "Rudy van Buren" it sais the same on LfsWorld.

But.. is the username case sensitive? What if you "unlock" your LFS with "Rudy van buren"? I think that's the only way to get "Rudy van buren" in the MPR?

The question of course is if this is true ;) I saw the same in InSim once..

I recently added a dashboard editor for the LCD clocks. He needs an editor for road car clocks and that will give more flexibility and better dashboards in future.

About the paused message showing in the pits - is it really a problem?

I have disabled it from the car selection screen anyway but I don't see it as a problem in the pits. I need to get this test patch up very quickly so I'd prefer not to try and sort that out.

I went to restart a race, then hit alt+f4 while the race was restarting

LFS kept running and wouldn't respond to any commands at all, I had to kill it with ctrl+alt+del

In FOX only i can to put 1st or Reverse gear in "Automatic Mode" i can't in "secuential" or "shifter mode"

Edit: Same problem with XFR, FXR, XRR, MRT, FBM and F08. No problems with the other cars, and no problems with Patch X30. My installation was LFS patch X-> X30-> X31
