WARNING : THIS IS A TEST

Hello Racers.

Here is a new INCOMPATIBLE Test Patch, Y30.

You cannot connect to any older versions!

You cannot upload hotlaps until next week!

You need to unlock again and I've made sure everyone has two unlocks available

New updates :

- updated XF and XR interiors
- some other small interior updates
- some physics updates

All changes in Y30 are listed below.

NOTE - XFR / XRR MIRROR SKIN MAPPINGS :

The XFR and XRR have new mirrors and the old mappings could not be used.
I need to release an updated viewer for the new models.
For now, I have attached skin templates to this post so you can update your skins.

INCREASED FRAME RATES :

By using the same Hardware Vertex Shading system as the car body, the subobjects (steering wheel, gearstick, brakes, mudguards, etc) now make better use of your graphics card, saving CPU time and increasing the frame rate on most computers. Those that do not experience much frame rate increase should find it is smoother and more consistent. There are small graphical improvements as a side effect of this change. You should find that the pit-out glitch is reduced as well.

REPLAY CONTROLS :

Multiplayer replays now have the same interface as single player replays.
They loop and the Escape Menu is available while watching.
Also, replay controls have been added. A timeline is visible when you move the mouse.
You can click anywhere on the timeline and the replay will go back or forward to that point.

Some new keys have been added :

1) Single frame step : ',' or '.' (SHIFT + ',' or '.' = one second step)
2) SPACE to pause / unpause during a replay (same as P)
3) ESCAPE to break out of fast forwarding
4) SHIFT + F now has 3 states if you are in a replay (the 3rd state hides everything including all messages and replay controls)

DEMO LICENSE SYSTEM :

User name and password are now required to go online in DEMO.
DEMO / S1 / S2 all appear in the same List of Hosts.

NOTE to DEMO users :

- You will need to set a GAME password at www.lfs.net to go online
- Log in and click on "account details" to set your GAME password
- You will see all compatible demo hosts and demo compatible S1 / S2 hosts

NOTE to S1 users :

- You will see all S1 and S1 compatible S2 hosts in the list of hosts

NOTE to HOSTS :

- Hosts in S2 mode - no difference, compatible, all S2 Y30 users can join
- Hosts in Demo or S1 mode - all S2 Y30 users and Demo / S1 Y30 users will be able to see your host

Windows XP : East Asian Language Support / Font Installation

LFS does not support double byte characters with Windows 98 / ME. Windows XP and Vista should work well but you may need to install fonts.

If you have Windows XP and currently cannot see the East Asian translations, here's how to set up your computer so it works.
See the attachment - in Control Panel click on "Regional and Language Options" then under the "Languages" tab select "Install files for East Asian Languages".
Windows will probably ask you to get your XP CD and the fonts will be installed from it.

This is important even if you do not use Chinese, Japanese or Korean translations so you can see East Asian text and player names correctly when you are online.

The interior improvements are incredible. What a huge difference. I had custom dds files loaded for all of the cars before, but I think once all the cars are done I won't need them any longer. The race cars are great, but the XFG is probably the biggest improvement. It looks much more crisp, clean, and realistic. I can't wait to see the rest of the cars get the improvements as well.

The XRR headlights do look a little odd, though. As though the texture doesn't quite fit or something.

I haven't had a chance to test out the frame rate improvements (my work machine doesn't support HVS), but so far the patch looks superb. :thumb:

Great work! XFG has a better bodykit, XRG has much nicer wheels, GTR seats/interior is great, and the XRT is easier to drive!:DThat is debatable. Personally, I don't like the new wheels. The spokes are too thin and the middle looks "empty". I wasn't a big fan of the old wheels, but the new ones aren't any better, IMO. With all of the different bespoke versions that people came up with, I think there's room for improvement here.

edit: I would humbly suggest these for the XRG: http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/6485/workemotionstk7.jpg
and these for the XRT: http://www.lfsforum.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=25851&d=1173238066

And pretty much anything would be an improvement over the current UF1 wheels. :)

If your card doesn't support HVS, you'll need to get one that does.

It's a 8800 GT.

Interesting. It was set to 1440x900@16bit with AA & AF off, giving out 140 FPS average. Now I've changed it to 32bit with 4xAA and 4xAF, it jumped to 225 FPS average again. Weird:scratchch

Nice interiors, I just hope updating the other cars doesn't take as long as these did.

The doors (from the inside) look rather low detailed still though, and the transition from the now-high quality dashboards to the low detail doors look a bit out of place. Same goes for the driver hands & gloves, hopefully those will be updated too.

Nice Interiors. But I thing sport steering wheel in road cars was good.
This type of steering wheel you can find in old "slow" cars.
Look at sport versions. They have different steering wheel for a feel of speed (car not should be fast but it must looks fast.). :) This is Marketing. :)

27th June 2008, 19:27
The UF interior does look quite unfinished and rough, tbh. Guess that's still a WIP.I just want to make sure everyone knows I am responsible for the UF cars, so you have only me to blame for them and I will do more updating on the UF in future. I just borrowed the dashboard from the XR so that at least it was a little modified and better than before. The UF models need plenty of work and it's useful experience for me working in the editors sometimes.

"- ...updated rear suspension of XRT and RB4"

Scawen would you care to give a bit more details about that? The rear suspension geometry was adjusted so the roll centre is a bit higher. This makes the roll centre a bit higher than the front suspension's roll centre, so the roll axis is inclined downwards to the front and this should improve the handling of the car. Also with the higher roll centre there is less body roll.

I am rly upset because i just used i think my last 2 unlocks im not sure, going TO y30 and seeing 34 servers (makes it almost pointless) and going BAK to Y24 and using another unlock, just to be on other servers with my friends
Im not using it, if it was compatible, or all servers went to Y30 then yeah.

other than that see ya when patch Y100000000000000 comes out ...

Same goes for the driver hands & gloves, hopefully those will be updated too.I have a feeling we'll see updated drivers (body/hands/helmet/etc) before S2 is done. But if they were to do that now it would invalidate ALL hotlaps, which they are apparently trying to avoid. When we get to the point that a fully incompatible patch has to be released, I'd bet money we get a new driver model at that time.

Or maybe I'm an optimistic fanboy. :D

Will I be able to run a MPR replay from y-22 with y-30?No. Whenever a car model changes (even a very tiny amount), it alters the physics calculations. Pre-Y30 replays will not work (unless the replay contains only unaltered cars - the LX4, for instance).

Edit: I stand corrected. According to Scawen those replays will work, but may stutter.

This is a test patch and you should read the release notes in the first post before installing it. It says clearly that it is an incompatible patch, and that an unlock is needed. And patch Z is coming next week.

Scawen, one minor thing; in the display menu it still says "FOX dashboard" but is actually the colour for all the new dashboards in the GTR cars.

My suggestion is either rename the label to make it clear more cars are affected, or add a separate colour slider for each of the affected cars :)

The rear suspension geometry was adjusted so the roll centre is a bit higher. This makes the roll centre a bit higher than the front suspension's roll centre, so the roll axis is inclined downwards to the front and this should improve the handling of the car. Also with the higher roll centre there is less body roll.

Ok that sounds good, although i dont fully understand it yet ;). Thanks for that. :thumb:

QUESTION:

I got a movie featuring the XFR and I'd like to use the new interiors - but the replay is a week old :DYes, although the physics of some cars changed, the MP Replays have not been invalidated. You'll probably see more jerking on the changed cars because the prediction between position updates does not match what happened when the replay was recorder.

Mm, I hope everyone understands that giving the XFR a sequential gearbox with ignition cut has made it considerably faster than UFR, so I'm hoping the UFR gets one too. Otherwise it's a bit unfair..The UFR got some significant updates to its centre of gravity .

Haha :D

I just want to make sure everyone knows I am responsible for the UF cars, so you have only me to blame for them and I will do more updating on the UF in future. I just borrowed the dashboard from the XR so that at least it was a little modified and better than before. The UF models need plenty of work and it's useful experience for me working in the editors sometimes.
This worryingly sounds like Eric is doing less of the work. I think we're all hoping that LFS isn't becoming a one man show.

The rear suspension geometry was adjusted so the roll centre is a bit higher. This makes the roll centre a bit higher than the front suspension's roll centre, so the roll axis is inclined downwards to the front and this should improve the handling of the car. Also with the higher roll centre there is less body roll.
Good to see some more thought going into suspension design.

Going to have a play then start digging these new values out.

This test patch is awesome, way more than I was expecting :hyper:

Changes in TEST PATCH Y30 :

Updated interiors in XF and XR (GTR and road) cars
Formula XR and Formula V8 also have updated interiors
Wind speeds and variations are now more moderate / less wild
Moved and lowered centre of gravity in GTR cars for better handling
Lowered centre of gravity and updated rear suspension of XRT and RB4
FIX : FPS display could overlap editor keys in SHIFT+U mode
FIX : RB4 dashboard went wrong in left hand drive mode
FIX : User could spam TCP requests causing overload
Is this going to effect aerodynamics? For example drag effect in formulas? :scratchch

27th June 2008, 20:58
May I ask, Scawen, what does V1 only mean in list of hosts? ThanksWell for some reason you have the V1 version set in your config.txt.

V1 championship will be getting going at some point in the not too distant future and they asked us for a special version which make it very easy for a beginner to go online and find V1 hosts (e.g. not looking at 750 S2 hosts). Seeing as they aim to show LFS on TV and got us started on the Formula BMW, it seemed a simple request worth doing.

So, this filter which will be on by default in their version, only shows V1 hosts in the list of hosts. But their version is exactly our version, with one line changed in the cfg.txt to allow the FBM to be the first car selected when you first enter LFS, and for that filter to be switched on.

Anyway, most people do not see the "V1 only" host filter. You were not even supposed to see that at all. Either you downloaded the V1 version or you manually edited your cfg.txt at some point so you see that filter.

I really cant drive with a mirror like that. It already was way to low but but it got worse now.

After doing some comparisons with Y24 it seems its more the shape. It did end up lower then before but the hight makes the difference.

I tested in on "the corkscrew" at Aston and whole cars fit behind it that you only notice after reaching the bottom. I would say the lowest possible verticaloffset setting should be what the highest is now.

A little oversight: XRG and XRT with left hand driver side have speedo on the left side of the dash (placement gets reversed and it shouldn't). :) Can be seen in screenshot (http://www.lfsforum.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=59978&d=1214589048) posted here before.

New interiors are awesome! Only little complaint is shift light on XRR which is under the gear number, far from line of sight, not so visible, sometimes obscured by the steering wheel. In XFR it's little better since it stands alone in the dark down there. :) In FOX it's perfect though, topmost thing, clearly visible without even looking.

My XF reverse lights are red..?

Excellent work on the cars. I love how they all look so much more professional.

For the XF and XR models, why is it that the turnsignals are still represented by a single dot when there's spaces allotted for the individual left and right signals in the middle of the dash? Just a bit annoying to me because I'm like that but whatever.

Pardon my lack of FZR knowledge but didn't its gearbox also become sequential and have ignition-cut along with the FXR and XRR? It's H-pattern now, that just seems a little weird that the other two GTRs are sequential with ignition-cut and the FZR isn't.

No I don't really like the new XF lights that much either, both front and rear. And I can't stand the XRG and XRT wheels either. The XRG's dont really look like they'd be from a factory. You should also post all the lines containing the word "OutGauge" of your cfg.txt

It looks kinda silly though, udp is connectionless and lfs also isn't capable of making a faux-tcp connection with OutGauge's udp packets.

2 things (too much thread to read to know if these have been mentioned before)...

1. the air vents especially in XF cars still look very crap and ruin these 'new' cockpits (yes they look better, but still not good enough IMO)

2. The XF cockpit is a rip off of a mk1 Fiat Punto

It's a nice patch overall.

But I get the feeling that during the creation/update of the UFR interior they got an Email notification to say that someone bought a S2 licence, and they all went out to the pub or something.

That's the only thing I dislike about this patch - the UFR. Which was my fave car, is now my most hated.

There is just not enough details on it.

It looks like you've just deleted it all, added one shadow, spread it across the whole dash - and just smacked on two gauges. Not good enough if you ask me - *shrugs*

Using various details from 'real' cars is a great way to make these fictional ones feel and look more realistic and believable, imo

E: Krammeh, UF/UFR are still very much wip, as was said, and will be updated in the future - uf wasn't mentioned amongst cars with new finished interiors in patch announcement, was it?

help on this please :(Did you get a crash address from Windows? Something that looks a bit like 0x004f52c4 or 0x00520be8 - a number like that.

I tested in on "the corkscrew" at Aston and whole cars fit behind it that you only notice after reaching the bottom. I would say the lowest possible verticaloffset setting should be what the highest is now.Try sitting in a real car. You will notice the rear mirror is not way up high above your head at the top of the windscreen. In fact the bottom of the mirror is just slightly above your eye height.

Maybe the XRR's headlights are purposely designed so the remaining portion of the flip-up lights resemble that of a Lamborghini Countach's when they're up :smileypulI'm pretty sure the XRR headlights are meant to be aftermarket flush-mount lights that are generally used on race cars with flip-up lights. Flip-up lights are a huge drag at high speeds, so race cars with these types of lights generally have flush mounted lights instead. Because there is no oncoming traffic they can use smaller, yet brighter lights that easily fit into these areas.

Here are some (admittedly, not very good) examples:

When it's fully 'wound' up its at 25.9psi, and both the digi display and analog (wheel, chase cam) show. But when it's 'idle' it's at -14.7psi on the digi display, but it's 0psi on the analog guage.

Hope I've worded it correctly, but I have uploaded two screenshots to show what I mean. One being and full throttle with 'full' turbo, the other is both idle.

Yea the analog turbo gauges in LFS never did show turbo vacuum like real-life gauges do, the lowest indication being 0 PSI. Good eye though, I didn't even see that.

That's probably due to your FOV setting and how "far back" it is set to (the higher the FOV value), and the looking angle.

Pff, I posted that AGES ago :schwitz:

Shouldn't show turbo vacuum when idling, surely that's impossible just after switching on your car?

Also it seems to be in minus even when the turbo has pressure, as shown in the analogue gauge ;)

It's set to default, 87 degrees. I wasn't pay attention earlier but it happens at full lock no matter which way I'm spinning.

EDIT: It happens with a lower fov and with it larger, as long as it's full lock.

I think that LFS needs a separate, adjustable IAC instead of just increasing the throttle to keep the car idling. I want to be able to adjust the idle speed!

EDIT:Hmm I wonder how the fuel consumption is calculated on the turbo cars? Because in LFS there are no fuel maps (are there? LOL), but in real life more fuel is injected when there is more boost (sometimes), on aftermarket turbocharging at least. I guess OEM turbocharged vehicles just adjust the pulse width going to the fuel injectors when there is more boost. The more boost there is in LFS, shouldn't more fuel be used?

1. The XRR lights seem to light up only when you press G, as with all the other cars. But they are not "popup" headlights, they are just regular headlights instead of the covers that were there before.

2. Looks like only the position of the mirrors has changed, everything else looks the same.

3. Don't know for sure, I only tried a few of the cars, but I can say that the rims look better now, they are shinier and more visible than before. Some cars have completely new rims (XRG/XRT). Others just have nicer looking rims while keeping the same design.

4. I checked out the DDS files, and many things have changed position, so the old interiors for XF/XR cars won't work anymore. :( The UF DDS hasn't changed though.

I have a question of my own though, I hope someone can answer: The old DDS files (for the cars) all had a white square with a black border somewhere in the file which allowed us to change the color of some parts of the car which were untextured. In the new DDS files this square has disappeared. Has it been replaced? Or eliminated completely?

The centre of gravity wasn't moved forward or backward. It was lowered (moved closer to the ground), which reduces body roll and improves handling. The XFR got a sequential gearbox, but I think the UFR got a much more lowered CoG instead. It shouldn't be that easy to flip it anymore, either.

Do the changes to GTR mentioned apply to the FWD-GTR as well ?Yes, they used to flip a lot so they got lowered CoG and the UF needed some extra improvement to keep up with the XF after it got a sequential gearbox.

Well XFR is sequential so really better than UFR now :shrug:The UF's centre of gravity was MORE improved than the XF. The UF used to flip and had a very extreme front weight distribution. If the balancing is wrong now we need figures, proof... how much do you gain with a sequential box, half a second? How much do you gain with improved centre of gravity and faster cornering? One second? Who knows... if you will claim that the balancing is now wrong, we need the figures to prove it.

I've not trawled through this thread but meh, I have found a little problem with the turbo guage in the XRR.

I'm wondering why does XFR has sequential gearbox now and UFR not? Why to ruin two most perfectly matched cars in LFS?If you want to claim the balancing is ruined, please post detailed lap time comparisions. We need this kind of detail to the 0.1 second accuracy, not just vague comments.

Most of the changed cars got a 1% or 1.5% rearward or forward shift (FZR) as well. In the GTR cases this was partly by moving the battery mass from the engine bay, to the cabin floor. Also various tweaks to the weight distribution around the car to get the desired improvements.

EDIT - Full details of the class balancing changes : http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=44956

Also various tweaks to the weight distribution around the car to get the desired improvementsThanks for clearing that up, though 1-1.5% is not really significant, is it? Lowering the CoG should have a much more pronounced impact on handling than a weight distribution change from 60:40 to 59:41. I mean, that's much less of a change than you see between a full and empty fuel tank :)

UFR dash so cheap...........

XFR very very good but UFR....O my god.....
Scawen has already explained that, thank you.

Y30 didnt work perfect for me. After loading track: http://www.pes.pri.ee/k2bi/broken_lfs.JPG

Couldnt join servers too. Few times LFS crashed during that. Going to reinstall everything. :S

Scawen - Is this a known problem? Maybe even solved? I had the same, but.. in Y24!

I have 2 installations in 2 different directories, a Y version and a Y24 version. I drove S2 content yesterday evening on the Y version.

This morning I tried to drive a S2 car on Y24, but after selecting a S2 car I got an empty screen. Only the "Cars" and "back" or "ready" button were visible. I expected the pit screen. After pressing enter to join the race (from that empty screen) I received the message "Could not load Mischa's car".

I tried the same with Demo cars and I was surprised to see them work, so.. even with my "unlocked" license, I decided to unlock it again.. to see if it unlocks the content then. But it didn't solve the problem.

In the first place I didn't want to update to Y30 and just wait for Z, but because I couldn't drive S2 content I updated to Y30 and... there I don't have this problem.

I've got no idea if this is Y30 related, but if you want I can perform some more tests.

UPDATE - If you want me to do some more tests I might need some more unlock options, cause I'm out of unlocks and have to wait till friday :) When you release patch Z you add some unlocks again too? I hope so :D

Thank you!

I like it. Just the new steering wheel is too boring, it misses some kind of logo in the middle... I like the new XFR... That new seat, rollcage, fire extinguisher.... Nice :thumb:

Now we need "opening" big lights in XR :)

XRT wheel IS :schwitz: NOT GOOD;/ look like from TIR, but XRR is look pretty GOOD.
PLSS cage to XRT xD and all interior from XRR to XRT xD hehe

Man, the XRT is a standard road car
Donīt intend to convert road cars into GTRs, thatīs the reason XRR/FZR and FXR exist
