20th June 2008, 20:41
WARNING : THIS IS A TEST

Hello Racers.

Here is a new compatible Test Patch, Y24.

It contains important fixes for issues found in Y22 and before. Please see the list of changes below for specific Y24 information

INCREASED FRAME RATES :

By using the same Hardware Vertex Shading system as the car body, the subobjects (steering wheel, gearstick, brakes, mudguards, etc) now make better use of your graphics card, saving CPU time and increasing the frame rate on most computers. Those that do not experience much frame rate increase should find it is smoother and more consistent. There are small graphical improvements as a side effect of this change. You should find that the pit-out glitch is reduced as well.

REPLAY CONTROLS :

Multiplayer replays now have the same interface as single player replays.
They loop and the Escape Menu is available while watching.
Also, replay controls have been added. A timeline is visible when you move the mouse.
You can click anywhere on the timeline and the replay will go back or forward to that point.

Some new keys have been added :

1) Single frame step : ',' or '.' (SHIFT + ',' or '.' = one second step)
2) SPACE to pause / unpause during a replay (same as P)
3) ESCAPE to break out of fast forwarding
4) SHIFT + F now has 3 states if you are in a replay (the 3rd state hides everything including all messages and replay controls)

DEMO LICENSE SYSTEM :

User name and password are now required to go online in DEMO.
DEMO / S1 / S2 all appear in the same List of Hosts.

NOTE to DEMO users :

- You will need to set a GAME password at www.lfs.net to go online
- Log in and click on "account details" to set your GAME password
- You will not see older demo hosts (Y to Y16) in the list of hosts
- You will see new demo hosts and demo compatible S1 / S2 hosts

NOTE to S1 users :

- You will see all S1 and S1 compatible S2 hosts in the list of hosts

NOTE to HOSTS :

- Hosts in S2 mode - no difference, compatible, all S2 users can join
- Hosts in Demo or S1 mode - all S2 users (test patch or official)
and Demo / S1 test patch users will be able to see your host
- Official patch Demo and S1 users will not see your host

Windows XP : East Asian Language Support / Font Installation

LFS does not support double byte characters with Windows 98 / ME. Windows XP and Vista should work well but you may need to install fonts.

If you have Windows XP and currently cannot see the East Asian translations, here's how to set up your computer so it works.
See the attachment - in Control Panel click on "Regional and Language Options" then under the "Languages" tab select "Install files for East Asian Languages".
Windows will probably ask you to get your XP CD and the fonts will be installed from it.

This is important even if you do not use Chinese, Japanese or Korean translations so you can see East Asian text and player names correctly when you are online.

Could you elaborate a bit on this one ?Prevously the updates could be irregular.

As you know, each "game update" or "physics update" is 0.01 seconds (running at 100 Hz).

So in old verisons, if you set the interval to 100 ms, you would get updates every time 100 ms had elapsed. But this was checked outside the physics loop, so if your computer was running at 33 fps, for example, each frame contains approximately 3 physics updates.

So the MCI might be output with irregular intervals, like 9, 12, 9, 10, 11 etc...

In this new version, the rate set through InSim is rounded to 10 ms then the check for updates is done inside the physics loop. So the MCI packets output will all have exactly 10 physics updates between then.

For me the guages resolution/sharpness is the same Y0 > Y22 >> Y24.
I'm guessing they had already set a higher MIP BIAS on text/interface slider (like 0.0) and when they changed to Y24 the Mip Bias went to a lower setting (like -1.5) making the number clearer.
OR
Perhapse they had Y0 and went to Y24 and the MIP Bias slider appeared for text so they could make it clearer.

The only difference I see is the Central Circle on the needle

I go check the LAG bit ;-) Nice :)

How much work would it be to add a "ilegal lap" bit? Isn't that the "HLVC legal" byte in RAF-fiels?

Could be nice to see if the lap would have been valid in hotlapping mode. Now I check invalid myself (result is that it's not 100% the same as in hotlapping mode), but having that bit would make insim life much easier :D

UPDATE - When I join the track the LAG bit is active for 1 whole second. Is this a bug or a feature? When I put car in first gear before end of this first second the LAG bit toggles off.

UPDATE - Sorry ;-) This was with Y22 client on Y24 host. Using Y24 client gives no "illegal lag" ;-) Nice feature though :-D

Nice patch Yeah but that bug that I reported in Y18 is still here with the AIs...
In Kyoto,Aston and Westhill, when you put 20AIs and put " pit stop requiered " they just pit too late... :really:
If you have time for this bug and want a replay just ask ;)

Scawen
21st June 2008, 11:44
Well I did ask for specific ways to reproduce that but got no answers. So I figured out a possible issue and fixed that.

Your description is missing some vital information, so I still cannot reproduce the bug. If you could provide this information it would be very helpful.

1) Which track configuration?
2) Which cars are your AI drivers using?
3) How many laps?

Also, if you could reproduce the bug with less AI drivers that would be very helpful, because if I run in the debug version, everything runs slow, so the MINIMUM way to reproduce the bug would be best, to increase the chances that it can be fixed. I'm very, very busy so cannot spend all day trying to reproduce one bug. What I need is the EXACT information, to reproduce it in the simplest way possible. When I can reproduce a bug, I can usually fix it.

Oh I didn't see the post for Y22 :P
I'll do my best to help you and I'll post the other informations after my 4 LFS sessions finish the test :)
I tested with 1-2-3 hours of race and the problem is still the same I'm testing to see if it happens with a number of laps fixed
But actually I'm sure that: That problem doesn't exist in:
-Frern bay Tracks with all cars
-Blackwood Tracks with all cars
-South City Tracks with all cars
With TBO,LRF,miniGTR and GTR it does exist here:
-Aston North,Aston National,Aston Historic,Aston Grand touring, Aston Grand prix
-Westhill
-Kyoto National and long

I hope that my testings will help you :D

When you put pit-stop requiered (when you don't there's no problem):
With ALL Aston tracks, ALL Kyoto tracks and Westhill ,with ALL cars it ,with 1-2-3-4-5-6-...etc cars it happens.
But if you put only 2 laps (I know it's pointless but just so you know for your tests :P) they have enough fuel but just won't pit...
So the problem comes from:
-Kyoto
-Aston
-Westhill
That's it I hope it will help you ;) If you need anything else just ask :smileypul

EDIT: and with FE,Blackwood and SO everything is OK in all situations (When you put 2 laps they pit!! :) )

I added an XF GTI, a Formula BMW and a Formula V8 on Aston National with 2 laps and Pit Stop Required.

They all pitted and finished the race.

Same test again on Aston Cadet - all pitted then finished the race.

EDIT : Same again with 20 AI although there were some collisions so a few did not finish. My AI are set to PRO.

EDIT 2 : Again with 20 FBM cars. Most finished successfully although quite a few crashed in the pit lane and burnt their clutch. Also some did not get enough fuel to finish their lap of honour after finishing the race. But as I understand your bug description you are saying they run out of fuel before finishing the race - that I cannot reproduce.

Well here is a spr with my AIs in the same config (don't pay attention tot he stupid AI names :D I'm just a kid :) )

EDIT: my AIs are set in pro too

ive done the exat same combo, 2 laps, pit stop required with BF1, F08 and XF GTI, and they did the pitstop. Very strange indeed, must be something wrong with your lfs maybe :D how about you download another copy of lfs, patch it up to y24 and then see if you still get it

In case you missed it, I have posted the solution to your problem. I think you are missing something in your data\pth folder. This explains why those 3 tracks have a problem and the AI cannot pit.

If I play an SPR file and use the fast forward/fast rewind bar at bottom, lfs needs many time to switch to the selected position within SPR. I've tried fast rewind in first round and lfs need many seconds to switch to the desired replay position. The replay is recorded with Y24 and played also in Y24. If I'm using an MPR, fast forward/fast rewind works fine and really fast.

Anyone could reproduce this?

Sir moi 407

I think that's because LFS generates the video but I might be wrong :tilt:

This is perfectly normal, because in a SPR LFS has to recalculate all the physics up to the point you want to fast forward to. In a MPR it can just go through all the position- and race event packets, for the most part skipping the physics calculations up to the last packet.

What exactly does the CCI_LAG bit mean?
Furthermore, is it possible to make the network
latency available to insim? i mean in milliseconds.

I suppose it's high/set if a player is shown as "lagging" to other players.
I'd prefer latency in ms aswell, +1 for that.

Maybe Scawen wants to keep InSim compatible by just adding a flag? If he adds new field, the packet itself has to change, so all insim addons have to ;)

Scawen: What about that "invalid lap" flag? I guess the info is in LFS (hit object/wall/grass detection), so why not add the flag to CompCar structure? :)

Sorry but I'm not adding InSim requests at the moment. The LAG bit is something Victor requested and I could do it easily, in 5 mins. A lagging car basically has an invalid position so I guess that is helpful for things like the LFS Spectator system.

HLVC detection is not calculated in multiplayer mode - it's just for hotlapping - so it's not just a case of adding a flag.

Only fixes now, no requests, Patch Z coming soon. More development after that.

It's not a secret that community expects dynamic weather, improved damage, new tracks, cars and a lot of new stuff in S3 :).

Maybe then we can *expect to* have a new car or track for the release of S2 Final (remember the FBM and the Chicane route for S2Y :p)

Anyway, great patch, the needle "grey stuff" is very good. It is a little thing, but I find it more eye-friendly, more realistic, and so sexy :p (it made me drive faster by 0.3 secs in each track i drove on today :D).

Great news as well that patch Z is coming soon. Hope we will have some nice things in it :p

This is the TEST patch forum where Scawen kindly asks us to report only problems on his current work. But it seems like 80% doesn't care and simply just spams on as in the other subforums.

It's really annoying to keep track of things already reported when they
a) are hidden between the unbelieveble amount of crap which gets posted here from time to time,
b) blowing the thread up by several pages when actually having nothing important / usefull to say.

I understand than some of you are "excited" to have a closere insight on what's in developement, but this is just joke what some are posting here.

Please, If you don't have to contribute anything which is at least related to the TEST patch stay f****** out of this subforum and make it easier for the rest of us.

Thank you.

Some new keys have been added :
1) Single frame step : ',' or '.' (SHIFT + ',' or '.' = one second step)
It still doesn't work at all with a french keyboard.

Suggestion: why not using the cursor keys for this feature when watching at a replay and not being in Shift+U mode ? This should be compatible will all keyboard layouts.

You could even use the Up and Down keys for other steps (e.g. 10 seconds step and 1 minute step when used with Shift). Usefull for very long replays like endurance races ones :)

The headlights have been separate from their glass covers in all versions of LFS the public has ever seen.

This is a test patch thread and you should only be reporting issues that have come up in the new test patches and were not there before, or serious issues that must be resolved before Patch Z.

Try to copy the folder "abc" of a default Y installation (simply download and unzip it somewhere, no need to unlock this installation too. We just want the folder) into your y22/y24 installation.

You mean Analog Gauges?

http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=28186

I really like it a lot, I now never use the internal car-dashboard view anymore. I figured the wheel and arms are just totally strange and obscuring most part of the view, but disabling them looks weird too.
Since i made my own simulator cockpit thingy it feels much more natural to get rid of all this crap. Now i really feel as if i'm in the car. Recently i made my own Gauges and it now looks like this:

http://home.wanadoo.nl/stefankoopmans/LFS/GAUGE/CUSTOMGAUGE2.jpg

But also the centered "wheels-only" view finally looks the part this way:

http://home.wanadoo.nl/stefankoopmans/LFS/GAUGE/CUSTOMGAUGE.jpg

It felt like ages to make this dial work correctly, but it's almost finished and ready to upload. It allows for a lot of creative work from everyone which makes it such a cool tool to fiddle around with.

Thanks go to Riskredrum and Screama.

I know this is a bit off-topic and shouldn't be posted in the testpatch topic, but due to the change of needles (center-assambly) everyone is talking about gauges. Which is actually funny coincidence since I worked my ass off recent days to create my own Gauges :P

Not sure if this has been reported already but i have noticed two minor bugs lately.

One of it is about the textures, particularly the rear light textures which are quite often not loaded correctly it seems. It looks like a "dull" texture that seems to be some sort of a placeholder or something. Today i have seen it happen with my own car (for the first time) and it changed while on track. I had to pit (just for repair, no shift+P/S) and the textures where normal and after leaving the pitlane again they went weird. (track was KY3R and car was XRG)

The second issue was that, after refueling once in the pitlane, at every following pitstop the game tries to refuel the same amount again although is was set to zero again (F12). It wouldn't stop until i start moving and im also getting a message saying that fuel has been added but its still the same amount. I was not able to reproduce this bug but the circumstances where as follows:

Track: KY3R
Car: RB4
Session Mode: Practice
Fuel in tank: 40%
Fuel to add: 100%

Just in case that happens again, i will save the replay. Forgot about it this time ;)

The "problem" is, that the boxes and the text are relative to the screen width and height but the tyres size is only relative to the screen width.

Boxes are like 5% of screen height and 10% of screen width and they stay relative to the screen size. You can proof that very easy by switching to windowed mode (shift+f4) and resizing the window to 5:10 and 10:5 ratios...

However because the tyre is only affected by screen size ist bigger because of widescreens... and because the gap between tyre and text is a vertical gap it's affected by the screen height.

And of course because FO8 and BF1 tyres are so big... ^^

That's a good point. I do run LFS windowed, although it's in whatever aspect ratio it gives me, not resized. I'll have to try that fullscreen sometime.

Installation of this patch is not possible because I need rights on this new pc from my dad for it ... (to install files). Is there any other way? (Got patch Y)

Somaone said that you can avoid this limitation by instaling the game in your user folder (my documents)

I found a small bug in Y24. In Y it's OK.

FPS / clock overlaps the keys panel, see the screenshot.

In my Y24 game the FPS hide when I'm in Shift+U menu. I tried with it in the left and into the right.

Maybe it is related to the language?

I tried it with other languages and there's the same result

LFS keeps freezing my whole computer (mouse and other programs included) in single player, not sure why. It freezes for about 10 seconds then unfreezes, then refreezes and repeats if I stay on the track. I tried getting latest video driver off NVIDIA's site, hasn't helped. I have Windows XP SP3 and LFS Y24 but have noticed it in Y22 too. I tried fresh installing LFS (then patching to Y24) and it happens in that too. It hasn't happened in multiplayer, only singleplayer. Doesn't happen during the menus but happens only while I'm on the track. I'm still trying it while I type this and it seems only certain cars do it. LX4, LX6, RB4, so far do it while XFG and MRT don't do it.

What's important is to know if it happens with Y (normal one :) )

I haven't tried with Y yet (never used to happen in Y), but I will check. I just managed to capture everything with Fraps, and noticed after it cycles a few freezes and unfreezes, the car blinks like it's reloading itself (using in-car view) - the "body" of the car disappears and you see the "bones" of the car for a split second as it reloads. Fraps actually didn't capture that though, might have to do it with a camera. I'll go try Y now.

edit: Yep, happens in Y also. Any ideas?

edit2: Doesn't happen in Vista; there must be something on XP but I can't figure out what. I've tried closing everything even. Is XP SP3 to blame?

Managed to get a screenshot: http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/592/screen1ru7.jpg This sometimes happens after like 5-10 freezes, but not always. There's some black line going up from the back of the car and don't know what the white thing is. I ended up getting out of fullscreen and my car went back to normal, so couldn't get any other shots.

Just had it happen in multiplayer too and it loses connection by the time I unfreeze.

do you have a flash drive? If so put lfs on it and use it that way.

OMG, can't you just ask your dad for that stupid permission? This is really getting ridiculous and it has nothing to do with this test patch, sorry...

Got a bad day or so? Relax man, anyway, my dad thinks lfs caused a virus or even hard disc crash and thats why he won't give permission.

And what does your private problem have to do with the test patch? Nothing, so please stop the offtopic spam.

You could try
1) using memtest to test your ram (google for it)
2) download latest direct-x from M$ and re-install
3) drop down the acceleration on the gfx card and test it (found in display properties:settings:advanced:troubleshoot)
4) unplug certain peripherals like memcard readers etc.
5) etc.

ps. Can a moderator cleanup off topic posts more often, thanks.

It works here. Try to set LFS to 16 bit (not just the skies).

In Aston Track there are pieces of scenery that become visible later that they should, leaving very noteable white holes

(my resolution is 1600*1200, level of detail 0.57)

No offense and I would like it fixed as well someday, but this problem also occurs in Y standard release so it is not a Y+ patch specific bug.
