WARNING : THIS IS A TEST
Hello Racers.
Here is a new compatible Test Patch, Y22.
By using the same Hardware Vertex Shading system as the car body, the subobjects (steering wheel, gearstick, brakes, mudguards, etc) now make better use of your graphics card, saving CPU time and increasing your frame rate on most computers. Those that do not experience much frame rate increase should find it is smoother and more consistent. Also there are small graphical improvements as a side effect of this change. You should find that the pit-out glitch is reduced a little as well.
All the reported Y20 bugs should be fixed. See below for the full list of changes.
REPLAY CONTROLS :
Multiplayer replays now have the same interface as single player replays.
They loop and the Escape Menu is available while watching.
Also, replay controls have been added. A timeline is visible when you move the mouse.
You can click anywhere on the timeline and the replay will go back or forward to that point.
Some new keys have been added :
1) Single frame step : ',' or '.' (SHIFT + ',' or '.' = one second step)
2) SPACE to pause / unpause during a replay (same as P)
3) ESCAPE to break out of fast forwarding
4) SHIFT + F now has 3 states if you are in a replay (the 3rd state hides everything including all messages and replay controls)
DEMO LICENSE SYSTEM :
User name and password are now required to go online in DEMO.
DEMO / S1 / S2 all appear in the same List of Hosts.
NOTE to DEMO users :
- You will need to set a GAME password at www.lfs.net to go online
- Log in and click on "account details" to set your GAME password
- You will not see older demo hosts (Y to Y16) in the list of hosts
- You will see new demo hosts and demo compatible S1 / S2 hosts
NOTE to S1 users :
- You will see all S1 and S1 compatible S2 hosts in the list of hosts
NOTE to HOSTS :
- Hosts in S2 mode - no difference, compatible, all S2 users can join
- Hosts in Demo or S1 mode - all S2 users (test patch or official)
and Demo / S1 test patch users will be able to see your host
- Official patch Demo and S1 users will not see your host

Windows XP : East Asian Language Support / Font Installation
LFS does not support double byte characters with Windows 98 / ME. Windows XP and Vista should work well but you may need to install fonts.
If you have Windows XP and currently cannot see the East Asian translations, here's how to set up your computer so it works.
See the attachment - in Control Panel click on "Regional and Language Options" then under the "Languages" tab select "Install files for East Asian Languages".
Windows will probably ask you to get your XP CD and the fonts will be installed from it.
This is important even if you do not use Chinese, Japanese or Korean translations so you can see East Asian text and player names correctly when you are online.

I have some issues with skin downloading. I use the downloadservice.
I think it started with Y.
LFS complains about a skin having to much data and the car involved stays white. It seems random skin but persistent throughout a session.
here is a pic.

I still have the problem of AA/AF not turning off when I de-select it in-game, even after restarting. Very annoying, as with everything turned on, in a big pack my FPS can go really low :( Means I have to re-install LFS everytime I need to disable AA/AF...
The changes that were made are brilliant however, very nice work :thumb: An extra 20FPS here :D

I still have the problem of AA/AF not turning off when I de-select it in-game, even after restarting. How does reinstalling LFS help?
Ok, so... you can't turn off the AA/AF in LFS, even though it seems to switch off?
But you say resintalling LFS does cure it? That sounds quite strange. How about just renaming the cfg.txt and card_cfg.txt files? That should have as much effect as installing a fresh copy. Please let me know if this has any better effect than just turning it off in the options.

NOT a bug report
I think the real important thing here is the minimum framerate is boosted by quite a bit. I could care less if I get an extra 50 fps on the top end if I'm already getting 150.
I did a quick test with 20 AI. Minimum framerates were as follows:
CPU: C2D 2.13GHz (2MB L2)
GPU: 9800GTX
Y20 on the grid: 31 fps
Y21 on the grid: 54 fps
Y20 in T1: 23 fps
Y21 in T1: 35 fps
VERY nice gains. Thanks Scawen!!! :)

What I mean is, I disable it in options, and the buttons show it as disabled, but in-game there's still AA/AF, and my FPS doesn't increase. I've checked my card's AA/AF settings, and they are application controlled.
When I say re-install LFS, I mean replace LFS.exe, cfg.txt and card_cfg.txt with those from another install that never had AA/AF enabled. Then it is turned off
After renaming those 2 files and starting LFS, it took me through the setup screens, but AA/AF was still "on" in-game, as in I could see it on the cars, but in settings only 1X AF was on. That's strange

I'm getting a 10fps increase, so thats a tick on smoother.
I'm getting the same times on drag races, so no tick on Faster. great work though. Anyone else getting cars that have higher detailing on the wheels?

Sure.
Before AA/AF are on, after renaming cfg.txt and card_cfg.txt:
Antialiasing 0
Mip Filter 1
While AA/AF are on normally, after being enabled:
Antialiasing 6
Mip Filter 16
After turning them off, even though it's still visible in-game:
Antialiasing 0
Mip Filter 0
Which is really weird...In the ATI panel, under both DirectX and OpenGL, AA and AF are both set to application controlled. Yet after turning them both off in LFS, my FPS stays the same, and the cars are still anti-aliased
Also, as I edited in my second post, AA is 0 and AF is 1 on a clean install, yet I can still see AA on the cars...

Scawen - I'm sorry to post here(I just see no other place since the previous thread was locked), but there is still speed hackers in lfs. I'm not sure what you did to the cheat protection system but I downloaded Y21 to test FPS changes etc etc, Went to ConeDodgers 1 (Theres normally a lot of people there, so good for testing), And a guy was speedhacking. He was only using it in very small bursts but it was definitely speedhacking. I have the replay avaliable if anyone needs it.
[Edit] - This is in no way a criticism, I'm just saying, People are still using the same cheat online and they need to be banned from everywhere possible.

Very nice! On a 19 player South City FBM MPR the average framerate has gone up considerably :thumb:
Though the LOD levels now look quite different - the wheels very quickly change into a grey cylinder. Guess I'll up the LOD setting a bit...

Scawen, concerning the bug i found. in Y20 you didnt understand.
I sent a replay to JVL (Username above), SPR (Single Player not hotlap) and he was using standard P.Y, and I was using Y20, he couldnt see the Replay because he had OOS Error (No cheating), then he sent me his replay, and I got OOS error too.
Not sure why tough.
Should I attach the replays or it's worthless now Y21 is out?

Should I attach the replays or it's worthless now Y21 is out?OK, one thing I was confused about in your first report is you mentioned "layout" and I wasn't sure if you mean the OOS happened if there was an autocross layout.
I'm surprised that an SPR is OOS - I have done thorough OOS checking in most patches - but only with hotlap replays. I think if the problem still exists (so Y21 can play your Y20 replay that goes OOS on Y) then it would be good to post them and I'll see if I can find out what is wrong. Maybe if you have a little time, you could do a simple test with your friend, try a few different things and swap replays, to see what are the conditions for it going OOS.
For example, if wind is disabled or enabled, if there are autocross objects, if ai cars must be in the race. What is the thing that has to be there to make a Y SPR go OOS in Y21?
There must be something about the single player race, different from hotlapping, that makes it go OOS compared with Y. If you could narrow it down a bit for me that would be great. Thanks!

Ok, now that's just some great programming! :)
Thanks a lot, Scawen. Great work!
I did a quick test with a replay here:
On Y20, last car on the grid. I had 58fps.
Now on Y21, I've got 71fps.
While on the same first lap where once I had 69fps, now I'm above 85fps.
That's just fantastic!
Beautiful work. With full AA/AF I'm now completely GPU limited at the back of a grid full of Formula BMWs with the physics paused (~85% load on one CPU core). In Y20 it was the other way around with GPU usage around 85% with the CPU pegged.
Same grid without AA/AF is CPU limited, but yields about 15 FPS more (~45 to ~60). :)

Well, I'm back, but nobody remembers me as evidenced by the amount of people that didn't even recognize my name online
First off, I'd like to say that after months of not even touching the dusty LFS install on my computer at all, I'm happy to see test patches already put into action and the devs working at it again.
In regards to Y21, I found that my FPS barely increased, if at all. I'm running a Pentium 4, 256MB RAM, and an ATi Radeon 9600 128MB and there hasn't been much improvement in frames. It's tolerable for now but I can't join any loaded grids or serious races without being forced to spec or leave.
I also found a small bug in relation to the horn. If the engine of the car is running, holding the horn button as long as you want will obviously make the horn run as long as you are holding the button. But when the engine is completely off (RPM at 0), holding the horn button down makes for a short few-second horn burst. After a few seconds, the horn stops and you have to release and push the horn button again for it to sound. Just a small bug.
Anyways, it's nice to be back to LFS. Been a looooong time :thumb:
Mark
In regards to Y21, I found that my FPS barely increased, if at all. That would be your graphics card holding you back. If you were GPU limited before you probably won't see any improvements in FPS. With a recent driver you may see a drop in CPU usage though. :)

I have less FPS in my old PC, the problems seems be due to the increased minimun graphics options, the lowest graphic settings are a lot higher that before or at least in my PC it is, LOD doen't seem to affect much now =/ for example in Y20 with minimum LOD tyre deformation wasn't drawn and now with the same settings it is.

im pretty sure that almost completely your rams fault
lfs usually will use more than half of your available ram... add the os and a few background processes to that and your computer will spend all its cycles paging

Just a question for Scawen:
Not to make you hurry up or anything (cause the more test patches there are the better), but is there a planned number of test patches before patch z comes out?
Or is there more like a point which you want to reach (some objective you want to achieve) before you do patch z?
Thanks!

edit: this happens only if im pressing one of the pedals
edit2: oh so i am wrong... i dont know when this happens
edit3: looks like it doesnt happen anymore...I can replicate this. It's difficult because you need at least 12 AI's and your own car on track and you must be in the correct view and focused on the correct car.
I used single player mode, 12 AI's and myself. I was at rear of grid and pressed Shift-U - crashed. (crashed on SO1 and AS5R, it might also crash on others to but not tested.)
And it only seemed to crash when in chase view, heli view or TV view! See, really hard to replicate?
If you pause first then press Shift-U it will not crash, but will sometimes will crash when you unpause. I cannot figure out the conditions for the unpause to crash it.
Crash report
58148
Also crashes in the SPR with same config, but I must be focused on my own car. (in 13th place) 58149
Press shift-U on the last car (mine) in the start grid. Must be in Chase, Heli or TV view.
Tried with my car further up the grid, it would only crash when focused on car last in the grid.
I tried with more AI's (18) and my own car in last position and it doesn't seem to crash. Then tried my car in 13th place - crash. Seemed it would crash when focused on the 13th car and pressing Shift-U. Must be in TV, Heli, Chase view.
Person settings info:
Managed to crash in both windowed and full screen modes. It crashed regardless if I used Application Managed full AA/AF or forced AA/AF from ATI driver profiler.

It appears to occur on Aston when the car is facing south on the map on the start grid.
im pretty sure that almost completely your rams fault
lfs usually will use more than half of your available ram... add the os and a few background processes to that and your computer will spend all its cycles paging
I would totally agree with this assessment, Mithras. 256MB of RAM is going to be very problematic for anything these days, and it's a needless limitation. RAM these days is very cheap. You could probably get some decent matched RAM for a very few $, and you'll be astounded at the performance difference of your PC, whether you're running Win98 or XP.
I only have 1GB in an AMD64 3000+ on XP, but I'm pretty keen on keeping background processes down to a minimum and I have a 6800GT. In South City, where I suffered my worst framerates, I've seen my FPS almost double tonight, with Y21, in the traditionally worse parts of the track (back of the grid, where I always am, on the pit straight). This test patch is like Christmas to me! ty Scawen :)

Thanks for the feedback everyone.
Well, i think he updated to Y21, because he couldnt play my replay.
But i have his replay, and mine i replaced with one in Y21.
In the time i try to contact him and see if he has the Y20 one, i will post it.
Here's his replay Standard YOK, I know the answer now. This is because the autocross track area was updated in one of these test patches. So, that means all version Y single player replays should be in sync, except the ones at skid pad / drag strip / autocross.
I have less FPS in my old PC, the problems seems be due to the increased minimun graphics options, the lowest graphic settings are a lot higher that before or at least in my PC it is, LOD doen't seem to affect much now =/ for example in Y20 with minimum LOD tyre deformation wasn't drawn and now with the same settings it is.Does your graphics card support hardware vertex shading? If not then that is what you need - and HVS has been around so long, such a "modern" graphics card would cost nothing (if you can find one second hand). People are probably now throwing away as scrap, graphics cards that are fine for LFS.
I can replicate this. It's difficult because you need at least 12 AI's and your own car on track and you must be in the correct view and focused on the correct car.
[ ... lots of information ... ]
Hope this helps. Nice work on the patch.Special thanks for the detailed crash report, reproduction method and crash address.

Dear Scawen, my FPS with loads of AI cars on screen got a big boost. Therefore, I ask you to please increase the number of AI cars possible in a single race. As the middle of June draws closer every day new GeForce graphics cards will be launched again very soon and also the LeMans race will be held. I would love to be able to race on my own computer a LeMans type race where I have slower cars and faster cars. However, if I make ten cars to be the slow ones, I will only have ten cars to race in my own group with :(
Thus, I understand that you would like to get applause for this big FPS boost, and you deserve it, but could you now convert it to more AI cars? Ideally, the number of additional AI cars on screen should be equal to the gain you made + some more, because the last time you increased their number was like a year ago and computers have evolved since. And I know you want to make in the future this parts flying off thing etc. But that will again be like one year from now, so players will not take a big hit because by then computers will become more faster.
(I guess asking for more forced pit stops (with possibly defined pit windows) is out of question so we could run a DTM type race?)

I installed now the Y21 patch, but my average FPS count actually dropped in certain sittuations (tested it a few times to be sure of it).
Running alone in BL1:
Before the Y21 patch: ~40fps
With the Y21 patch: ~35fps
With me at the back of the grid + 9 AI racers it remains the same: ~20 on the grid and ~25 racing.
My computer:

Geforce FX 5200 128MB
512MB RAM DDR400

8th June 2008, 13:14
What the patch did was basically move some of the graphical workload from the CPU to the GFX card, which should be able to handle it better. However, if your GFX card was already the limiting factor, then this patch will make your fps worse. The FX 5200 is an absolute low-end card, so it's not surprising. Its performance is actually worse than that of the ancient MX440 or Radeon 9000 cards.
aroX123
8th June 2008, 13:14
i got 30 or so when alone in Y20
Now in Y22(21) 42
and when from back of gird on Y20 i got 14 (and it goes dont to 12 when ai is moving)
and now back of grid in Y22(21) 37 (and it stays there when all ai moving)
However, if your GFX card was already the limiting factor, then this patch will make your fps worse.I don't think it should really be worse. The GPU still has to draw the same amount of triangles with the same materials, the only difference is that the CPU doesn't have to do quite as much work to get it to draw them. ("Draw the triangles in that buffer", instead of "draw a triangle here, draw a triangle here, draw a triangle here... etc.")
It could be those undisclosed graphical improvements having an effect though.
Here you go:

But please, this has NOTHING to do with the test patch. Try posting it in the beginners section or technical assistance next time ;)
I think it is patch Y22 because my g25 works fine with normal patch Y.
As for the wiki article, thats what ive been trying to do but when i push the throttle and brake pedal in options, they both show up as being the RZ axis.
AndroidXP
8th June 2008, 13:39
But my G25 still works fine in Y22. Nothing has changed with the test patches. Are you 100% sure "Report combined pedals" is turned off (http://upload.lfsmanual.net/images/6/68/LogitechSetup.jpg), and that the LFS game profile is still applied? If you have the test patch installed in a different location, the profiler might not apply the LFS profile anymore...

In the ATI panel, under both DirectX and OpenGL, AA and AF are both set to application controlled. Yet after turning them both off in LFS, my FPS stays the same, and the cars are still anti-aliased
Also, as I edited in my second post, AA is 0 and AF is 1 on a clean install, yet I can still see AA on the cars...
Rename the LFS.exe and try.. Solved this problem in my case..Yes, please do try renaming the LFS.exe when it is the stuck/bugged state, run it with its new name and see if this restores the default settings.
That would be very interesting and if this does "solve" the problem then I can only conclude it's a driver issue. That would mean your driver software is remembering LFS settings and reapplying them later.
Nothing LFS can do about that really. I don't know if it's possible but maybe you could remove most of the software (the part that handles different program settings) just leaving the actual drivers?
Scawen - I'm sorry to post here(I just see no other place since the previous thread was locked), but there is still speed hackers in lfs. I'm not sure what you did to the cheat protection system but I downloaded Y21 to test FPS changes etc etc, Went to ConeDodgers 1 (Theres normally a lot of people there, so good for testing), And a guy was speedhacking. He was only using it in very small bursts but it was definitely speedhacking. I have the replay avaliable if anyone needs it.
[Edit] - This is in no way a criticism, I'm just saying, People are still using the same cheat online and they need to be banned from everywhere possible.Perhaps you could email us with the MPR? Or attach the MPR here and email us the name of the cheater and what point in the replay he uses the cheat?

I think I'd need to leave the software there, as it's managing my GPU's overclocking. Without overclocking my FPS halves:schwitz:
What are you using to overclock with?
If you want you can delete the profile file for nVidia cards, no idea what effect this would have, though.
If you've got an nVidia card use ATiTool (my fave) or RivaTuner, same applies for ATi Cards, but "AMD Clock Tool" is also good (I hear).

I think that is not a new bug, that is something lacking in the damage system - the back of your car was bashed in but the wheel stays in the same place.
EDIT : Too late :tilt:
IIRC you CANNOT damage the wheel. Same with the RB4's "indestructible" exhausts (which is now fixed).
Basically - smash the rear up enough and you'll notice the wheel doesn't move.

Do reflection mods not work with this patch? After installing this, the reflections did not seem to be working, and my wheels had changed colour from white to grey which caused problems for a replay I was wanting to film. Think I may have found a bug.
A few minutes ago, I started up patch Y22 and went directly to the Master Server List, which showed up for about 5 seconds. Then after that the list itself disappeared and instead showed "Closing 1 connect" in the upper-left corner below List of Hosts. The Meeting Room button is still there.
I've restarted LFS three times so far and I am still getting the same problem. I guess I'll just stick with running Y21 until a way around this is figured out..

What kind of anti aliasing is used for Nvidia cards? These provide 8x, 8xQ, 16x and 16xQ for example and I found 16x to be very useful since it looks almost like 16xQ without difference in performance compared to 4x.

Hmm, I've a 9800 PRO, also on Omega (No idea what version, not at home). Maybe it's an Omega problem?
I'd suggest trying the latest ATI drivers and cleaning out the card's heatsink. The artefacting is probably due to overheating (or memory failure). Hot summer days tend to take their toll on graphics cards.
In a number og earlier posts complaints were raised against having decreased the text size in the menu screens. However, I think that the smaller text size it not the real problem; it is the poor rendering of the text. The text appears quite blurry as if anti aliased rather poorly. I discovered that by decreasing the MIP bias for text to -0.2 the text suddenly appeared crystal sharp. Maybe this should be the deafult setting if all others experience the same blurred texts?

BUG: Shift U
How to reproduce: Start LFS in Single Player, load KY1, add 15 FXR, and 10 laps. Once all 15 are on grid, TAB through all of them until you get to the leader, then SHIFT U. The sound skips, and gives me an error.

think thats due to the driving line/ideal line "floating" above the race track high enough to be above the underbody.

This is like the first bug that was immediately reported after the racing line was implemented. It is caused by the racing line being rendered above the track, which is done to prevent the line dipping below the track.

And another problem I saw on the last page: my reflections on the car are gone. It looks like a toy car now. I get shadows on it, and a little bit of reflection, but the color stays pretty flat.Make sure you're not running any third party textures. The high resolution textures pack changes the reflections and requires a change to the shinyness of the cars. You might want to try a fresh install of LFS in a separate directory, just to rule out this possible cause.
I tested the frame rate before and after Y21 in South City in the BMW F1 car and before hand i had to take off alot of graphics or low to get it running at 30fps. After i downloaded Y21 i felt no improvement, FPS stayed at 30fps. I put all the graphic settings full or best, and it stayed at 30fps.
So, i dont know how it works, but its ok, but VERY confusing!

Nice, FPS slowly getting better. I still have the white lines visible on the road in certain areas (if only they were grey :scratchch).
Any replays I have upto X36 gets an oos error after a short way into the replay, but everything since X39 seems fine. (normally single player with ai)
Now I just wish to use my quad cores to get more fps (core1 updates the cars physics and outputs to in/outsim packets, cores 2/3/4 use these packets of data to calculate the sounds/visuals/ai reactions etc.) - Sounds good in theory. I'm sure one of the best programmers in the world could get it working once he gets the time to work on it :D

Can you possibly check if it does the same if you roll back to Catalyst 8.4? In another indie game I follow there were bug reports of similar funkiness when users updated to 8.5 and returning to 8.4 remedied that. Hi Scawen! Very good and interesting last patches.
About advanced control mouse. This is first small step only, but it is good.
If it is of any interest to you, criticism:
1. When combined Thr/Break, centering axis Y fasten centering screen monitor. D't do this! Centering axis Y must be fasten current value axis only.
2. When you use axis Y as one axis, devide not active. It's not good idea.
3. Why you ignore axis Z (scroll) mouse? Please realize.
4. Min devide axis X must be < 1. This is consequence difference resolution difference mouses.
5. That is enough now.
I drive on mouse (MIME 3.0). I have axis steer, separate axis throttle and break, axis clutch, i do heel&toe very easy. When you analyze my replay, you d't difference, what i use only mouse but no wheel and paddle. I not have only FF. But i use third person soft, and soft old and not working on Vista. I (and more other racers) interesting advanced useful mouse directly in LFS.

I guess I'll just stick with running Y21 until a way around this is figured out..I guess this is not a Y22 issue at all. I think this has happened occasionally for years. So if you got that in Y22, you'd probably get it in Y21. Or if you don't get in in Y21, then Y22 would work as well.
But do let me know if I'm wrong and after testing you find it really is Y22 specific.
btw, where is flag for Bulgarian?
http://img399.imageshack.us/img399/9540/bfbfel6.png
:schwitz:I copied Bulgarian by mistake from the translation system, into my patch folder. It is only half finished so should not really be there at all.
...I discovered that by decreasing the MIP bias for text to -0.2 the text suddenly appeared crystal sharp. Maybe this should be the deafult setting if all others experience the same blurred texts?Someone else said this already but in case anyone missed it, the default mip bias for text is -1.0 and at least on my PC that gives much better text sharpness than zero bias.

I said this before, but apparently there are more people with about the same problem: when I change AA or AF settings, nothing changes, I tried renaming LFS, tried putting my 3D settings to application control, but both settings have no result.
And another problem I saw on the last page: my reflections on the car are gone. It looks like a toy car now. I get shadows on it, and a little bit of reflection, but the color stays pretty flat.
I have had a problem for a while with AF. Changing the setting in LFS has no effect, and changing the setting through the driver also has no effect. AA works as supposed.
I have already removed and reinstalled drivers and have also updated to the latest catalyst a few days ago which hasn't solved the problem. Also a change to a better radeon videocard hasn't solved this problem.

Does your graphics card support hardware vertex shading? If not then that is what you need - and HVS has been around so long, such a "modern" graphics card would cost nothing (if you can find one second hand). People are probably now throwing away as scrap, graphics cards that are fine for LFS.I've been able to verify this on a machine that does not have HVS support. In Y21 at the back of a large grid on Westhill I got 32 fps (game paused, in-car view). In Y22 I only get 16 fps. This machine has an on-board Intel 82945G chipset (utter crap).
If your computer doesn't have a graphics card that supports hardware vertex shading, it's time to upgrade. Virtually every decent card has had this for years now, so anyone who's even remotely serious about gaming or sims should have no problems getting their hands on an HVS supported card.

Agh, TurboCache (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TurboCache). Which means that the GFX card tries to use its own and the system memory (which is awful, btw). And no, you don't need an old card or computer to not have HVS support. My work machine is a ~1 year old Dell desktop that uses an on-board graphics chip. HVS is not supported. Most any machine that does not have a dedicated graphics card is not going to have HVS support and will see a slow-down in frame rate from this patch.

I'd like to say the new rendering for the rims is much nicer now and is much appreciated. Previously for me on Dynamic LOD 1.0 when the wheels went "simplified" at about 40 meters they used to look like hollow tubes, this was quite distracting and really was intrusive to the immersion. Now they have a center hub and are less noticable as "simple" wheels. So it now looks better and has more FPS for multiple cars on screen - awesome stuff. Nice progress towards "detachable" things and it's very exciting. :tilt:

thnx for the huge patch *jk* no i really like it, only one problem tho.
the AA/AF isn't doing me squat :P when the AA/AF first came in LFS i could set it to max and it would actually make the screen look nice, but now it doesn't matter if i have it or max or not. even when i'm forcing it through the drivers, the jaggies won't disappear.. :/
have tried to delete it and reinstall it from scratch but no luck.
im on a p4 3ghz, 2gb ram and a 7800gtx
thnkfull for help :P
EDIT:!! reinstalling the drivers did help actually.. strange :) but no worries then :-D

Have you upgraded directly to Y22 from Y? If so, you may have used the wrong installer. Have another look at the first post in this thread, and read the information on each installer first, before downloading and installing. I have a feeling that downloading and reinstalling the Y-Y22 installer (instead of the Y19-Y22 installer) will fix your problem. I could be wrong.. got a feeling tho ;)

ok well since the main difference with this Test Patch is the FPS i honesly see some change but mosly is not good cuase in my car the cockpit view i usually got around 20-30FPS but know with the new test patch i only get around 15-20FPS but on other views i get maybe 1-10FPS more but TBH i don't see much of a difference with the FPS

When trying to run AI drivers in Practice mode I'm getting the following error: "AI can't drive on this configuration".
Running Patch Y22. Wind is off, Pit required is off, car reset is off. Time of day seems to have no effect. Level of AI seems to have no effect (I'm running Pro). I've tried this on all of the tracks. Both Blackwood layouts work fine (normal and reverse) but all other tracks fail with this error.
I can run the AI successfully on any track if it's set to race X laps, but not if the game is set to Practice mode.
Edit: I did a clean install of LFS Patch Y, then installed Y-to-Y22. Now it works fine. I'm not sure what the problem was with my original setup, but a clean install seems to work.

The demo-server of our team isn't visable in the server-list when using patch Y22 and when I try to connect directly to it's name I get this message: Host has a different game code
When I search for this server with a patch Y-client, I can find and join this server.
In order to find the problem I stripped the config-file to a minimum which is:
/host=Test-RR
/port=63392
/mode=demo
/usemaster=yes
/track=BL1
/dedicated=nogfx
Still it isn't showing in the serverlist and I can't connect to it's name.
Any ideas what could be the problem? I'm running 7 servers and only the 3 demo-servers aren't showing or aren't connectable when using patch Y22.

Why would you want to 'center' your view when you're in a menu? Don't think those buttons are needed when not on track.

The mouse pointer should be visible if you move the mouse, so you can operate the replay controls at the bottom of the screen.
If you don't want to see the mouse at all (for movie making purposes, etc) then you can press SHIFT+F once or twice to hide all text and the replay controls, in which case the mouse pointer is invisible.

Scawen, the mouse is still bound by the limits of the screen even when you're making movies and it's invisible. However, I use 2 monitors and all too often in the process of lifting, moving, and repressing the mouse cursor to move the view further (happens a lot because I record at low resolution), I keep clicking accidentally in the other monitor. LFS minimises and the recording is wasted.
I've mentioned it before as a sort of improvement suggestion but I may as well also highlight it as a bug report, because the "clip mouse to window CTRL+C" feature doesn't stop the cursor at the edge of the screen with my dual-monitor setup, at all.

I use two monitors too, and here "mouse clipped to screen" stops the mouse at the sides until I use Alt-Tab or windows key it works correcty if I use Shift-F4. After that I have to switch it off and on again to work.

Hello,
I don't know if you call that a "bug" but when you do a 2hours race with AIs in Aston National for example, they forget to pit and put some fuell in their cars... Ok that's not really important but at least now you know that :thumb:Does anyone know how to reproduce this? I just sent an FO8 round AS National in a 2 hour race and it did stop for fuel.

Does anyone know how to reproduce this? I just sent an FO8 round AS National in a 2 hour race and it did stop for fuel.
I'm not sure if this is the reason, but does the AI stick 100% to the precalculated fuel strategy? Because it's possible that a custom setup changes the actual fuel consumption enough to invalidate the original pit strategy.
(If it doesn't stick to the calculation anyway, then ignore the next two paragraphs.)
That said, another thing I noticed is that the fuel usage prediction doesn't take handicaps into account. If you add lots of extra weight for example it's very easy to make it use considerably more fuel than estimated.
Now I don't know how hard or easy it is to change the algorithm for calculating the usage, but a rather easy fail-safe fix would be checking each lap if there is enough fuel left to last two more laps (taking the actual average fuel consumption as base) and if not simply instruct the AI to make a pitstop ASAP.

my fuel too has stop :shrug:Which car did you use? And was it using player setup or its own setup?
Now I don't know how hard or easy it is to change the algorithm for calculating the usage, but a rather easy fail-safe fix would be checking each lap if there is enough fuel left to last two more laps (taking the actual average fuel consumption as base) and if not simply instruct the AI to make a pitstop ASAP.In fact this is nearly what it does, only it makes sure there is enough fuel to last 1.5 laps (not 2). I guess this may be the problem, on a track where the split point is just less than half way round, there is a chance it will say, "I have enough for 1.5 laps so no need to go in to the pits this time".
If this is the case then it can be fixed by looking at how far round the track that split is. It seems likely that this is the problem but I was hoping for a reproducable case to verify the fix.
I'd perfer to do it more accurately rather than going for 2.0 laps, otherwise I imagine there is a case when an AI could unnecessarily fill up with less than two laps to go, although it could reach the finish line with its current load.

I don't really understand the reason behind taking 1.5 laps as base? Lets say your fuel lasts for 1.6 laps as you cross the line, so you decide not to pit yet. Then one lap later you check the fuel again, now your fuel lasts for 0.6 laps. Whoops, no way to reach the pits after that.
Wouldn't that basically be a 40% fail rate on the fuel checks (every time it turns out you have 1.51 - 1.9 laps left when doing the check, assuming that you can somehow creep into the pits with 0.9 laps worth of fuel)?
Regarding pit optimization, wouldn't a simple check on "if (laps_to_go < laps_possible_with_current_fuel_amount) then ignore pitstop" do the trick? Or is this a question of saving the CPU cycles? :schwitz:

I just took 20 AI's around AS3 in the FO8 and I noticed that there was a car that was stuck in the garage and it couldnt get out.

The reasoning is because it makes that decision when it passes the last split. It has to make the decision before the pit lane entramce and the final split is always before that point. I guess as I was coding it, I was thinking about tracks with two splits, so 1.5 laps would cover all. It just doesn't cover the case when there is only one split and that is less than half way round.
