In the race just press "2". Usually you'd do it at the end of the race but it can be used to save the race up to any point :)

It's only "not recommended" because they collect quite rapidly. I auto save mine, and I currently have 865 (434 mb) of mpr's saved in my latest install of LFS. I have others from S1 demo and 3 patches of S2 demo that total around 1000 files at almost 500 mb. That's almost a year of racing LFS from my S1 demo days to now. So if you autosave, you'll collect quite a lot of files. If you have the room, then go ahead and autosave if you want.

i do that on purpose to have evidence.
If anything ugly occurs on the server, than it's better to be prepare either for offense or defense...
Mostly these files get shreddered after a few months anyway.
So it's not getting too messi here.

I actually autosave for skin downloading. I'm 56k dialup, so I can't autodownload skins on the server. I'll jump in and if they are in the middle of a race or I missed it by a lap, I'll jump out and DL the skins. The kids like to mess around on the other computer too, so when they are, I'll jump online and DL skins from previous replays so I have them next time I see those people.

NOTE: You must select "Manual Save" first to do this. :)

Heh, I just checked my folders: I have 2 gigabytes of mprs and 12 megs of sprs :D
Actually I use them...And it's nice that you can check your driving if you suspect there was something wrong or unclear in some race. And you can spy on people's racing lines and braking points :shhh:

I have it set at "autosave" and I believe I've saved mpr's manually before.

Yes that will work too, but I just wanted to make sure he didn't have the replay option set to "Disabled". :)
