SERVER: FRO|FormulaRacing|#4
IF YOU HAVE NOT BEEN SENT THE PASSWORD, PM JO53PHS
On Saturday, 3 May there will be an official practice session for the 2008 Kyoto 500.
The main purpose of this session will be to give practice in Safety Car Deployments. The SC will be deployed at random intervals. They will not be the bulk of the race, but there will be at least 3 deployments to make sure participants are familiar with the rules.
ScheduleAll Times BST (GMT +1):
1400: Server set to open practice Mode.
1445: Server Passworded. All non-Kyoto500 or LFSCART entrants kicked.
1500: All participants should be in TeamSpeak by this point. A brief Driver's Meeting will be held where I go over the full day's procedures.
15:10: 30 minute qualifying...cars sent out in groups of no more than ten, for ample time for at least 5 laps. This is to reduce risk of interference from drafting.
1540: 10 minute rest break, admins sort out any penalties, and grid order is prepared. Track open for practice AFTER two admins have confirmed screenshot of results, and time clock has expired.
1550: 90-lap race, 92 programmed.
From 1355 BST until the Race Director declares the official session over, all occurences will affect your status for the Kyoto 500.
Also, please post here if you plan on attending, so I may gauge attendance.
Entry List: (Car # - RacerName [ LFSName ]):
1. 29 - Jocelyn Gingras [ Elderado ]
2. 52 - Jake Lennan [ LazLoW ]
3. 46 - D. Southword [ Storm_Cloud ]
4. 24 - Kenneth O'Keefe [ Racer hero ]
5. 87 - Kristjan Jarve [ Kristjan.J ]

I've just watched the replay and I have to say a few things about the start
Most clutch burning was due to poor clutch control out of the grids and/or general impatience. Other clutch burning was due to people being incapable of looking at their position at the start, and finding the box with the position number on.
The staggered triple file was a bit of a mess. You should keep in rows of 3 (staggered if possible). That is the one of the two purposes of the second grid.

the 300 laps are no requirement to enter a testevent, they are just a requirement for entering the qualifying... that's what I know, hope I am up to speed.... ehm... up to date

Correct: You must satisfy all the requirements in the Entry thread on or before 21 June to be a Kyoto 500 entrant.
For what it's worth, everyone's still a provisional entry. ;)

Also, this will be held in FRO|FormulaRacing.org|#4
Teamspeak will be in use for Race Control directives.
Please direct TS questions to Mazar, as I believe he's set everyone on the entry list to get into it.
Remember, even if you have not confirmed entry for this official session, you may show up "at the door" and be into it, as long as you're in by 1500 BST.

As #4 is gone lost, due to the problems of Frank500 I set the LFSCART server (#2) to the normal oval now... the past 12 h it was on oval chicane, now it is on oval with the Kyoto 300 layout (means: normal Oval, just with cones on the inside of the Pit Entry / Exit)

I just finished watching the race replay. I turn off race comments durring the race so as not to be distracted. I'm surprised and pissed off by some of the comments made by Mr O'Keefe in regards to my driving abilities. Especially when i saw 2 incidents where he was at fault. If there is a consensus as to my inability to participate i would like to know now so as not to waste your time nor mine.
Thank you.

I would like to inform you and everyone else that I watched your performance in the race today and was quite impressed. I saw nothing wrong, and did not see you cause any incidents.
Also, congratulations on being the first (and so far only) to meet the minimum official practice sessions. Now, just upload a hotlap of under 38s to LFSW and you could be the first to be a confirmed entry !

everything is okey again. There were some problems with server four. 500servers chrashed, and all servers were called 500servers, and the settings were deleted. It was not literaly gone lost, but it was not avaidable at this point of time.
and, yeah... everything is fine. I just was surprised. Normally you post at least one thing (wich i notice) a day, and then, there was nothing, neither on the teamserves... :D nothing more then a surprise...

Arrrgghhh....
FRO have servers with two of the major hosts to insure against such situations. But when your backup plans also start falling over, time to do something ourselves.
Don't worry, LFSCART will have the fastest, most reliable servers we can get.
See you on the servers falke, should be back on tomorrow during the day.

All -
There will be an officially sanctioned Hour-long Free Practice session on Wednesday, 14 May 2008 at 21:30 UTC.
This is a good opportunity to work on your setups, take pitstop practice, practice slipstreaming, or meet the lap requirements if you are still short.
Afterwards, there will be a 25-lap officially sanctioned race for kicks and giggles, and because we bloody well can !
Post in this thread if you're able to make it. If I get enough "signups" I might scrap the hour FP and make it a 50-lap race after qualifying (which would be done in Kyoto 500 format).

12th May 2008, 20:17
^ dw Falke - there will be more at times more suited to Europeans. This one happens to be at this time because I'm not around (I presume Joe is doing something) and so Deko is organising it, and he's not home from work/class until quite late. We will be having another weekend one soon

Apologies for the late notice on this. I did tell Joseph about this earlier, and I hope he PMed this to you.
There will be 2 back-to-back official sessions today, 17 May.
Session 1
1800-1900 GMT (1900-2000 BST (UK Time)): Free Practice session. Track open. Server will be set to qualifying mode. Must complete at least 10 flying laps for attendance to count.
Session 2
From 1905 GMT (20:05 - BST (UK Time)): Qualifying as per Kyoto 500 format. Then, 60 laps race (+2 Pace laps).
Use of TeamSpeak is required during the sessions. Please not that racers are not required to have talk functions, but must be in the TS server to listen. If you've not got formularacing.org TS server informations, let me know and I'll set you up.
Server will be FormulaRacing.org #4.
RSVPing not necessary for these.

Thanks to FRO for the back-up server, and to you all for your patience whilst we sorted stuff out
No problem, #4 is there as a back up for you.
I would advise to develop a back up plan for the race day guys and just in case...prepare FRO #4 for race day too, for a plan B, just in case scenario.
As that is twice now a server has unfortunately failed on practice race days and why we had to get a back up ourselves. Shit happens, so plan round it..
LFSCART will move to the #4 server for the forthcoming Oval rounds.
Best, Maz

Sorry for the late call guys, but I will be holding a Practice Evening tonight at 9pm BST (8pm GMT/UTC)
Format will be a 20 min Quali session, with a 30 lap race after, no pit stops.
Some indication of attendance would be appreciated.
We'll be back on our own server tonight (Kyoto 500) - normal pass, if you don't know it - PM me :). If the server goes down like it did last night, FRO|FormulaRacing|#4 will be the backup server, and if that crashes, then it will most likely be FRO|FormulaRacing|#2
Hope to see as many of you there as possible.
@Hyntty, Joe, Deko e.t.c, Admin help would be appreciated :)

That didn't go well. :(. However, quali did go quite well, apart from some name/setup/timing/drafting issues. Poor old DWB got taken out again :( (but then won :))
PLEASE will everyone take a look at the UPDATED rules (as of 4/6/08), LOOK at the new start procedures. :)
Thanks to DWB for the feedback regarding the 'wait for green flag' command - that's the kind of stuff we want :). The actual racing was pretty good - as usual. It's just getting you going that's the problem! :tilt:

Having had a think about it, I'm the one responsible for the Drive through penalty shambles. I gave a DTP to ilaybrk for jumping the start, because he was the only one I saw who jumped at the time.
It was only fair to give the same punishment to all. If I had realised how many people had jumped, I wouldn't have given the penalty(ies).

Right.
DISCLAIMER: The following is me trying to sort out the situation. I'm not meaning to be an asshole about this, I just am being strict on this because I DO NOT want this to even be remotely close to happening on June 21, 22, or 28th.
So, I'm looking at the replay and am shaking my head.
The start should have either been waved off, or let go. In any case, because one "went", everyone went as a matter of reaction. So no penalties shoudl have been handed.
The rest is pretty good, racing-wise.
The D/Ts SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN HANDED OUT. Everyone who went had some sort of second-thought pause. Everyone had the "Oh s**t ! I shouldn't go yet !" reaction.
I will be VERY strict during the qualifications and races. And this is NOT JUST for the drivers, but also the admins. Anytime during a session, or before and after it, when I'm in the server, I AM IN CHARGE. I will send a PM to those who have volunteered to help admin (thankyou for doing so, of course) detailing what responsibilities are.
Again - I apologies to those who were in the session today for the problems. I am giving credit to those who were there.
There will be some changes to the regulations in the next 48 hours.

Ok, I'm gonna try and not sound like an utter pilloc: It was way too early for anyone to even think about going. There's no differernce between one driver taking a jump start or half the field doing so. It clearly says in the rulebook that the green flag is shown when the leader crosses the 'green flag' line marked with orange cones and a chalk line. Should it be marked better maybe? Now the administrative error was that Jack gave up and pressed the button when everyone started to go. This I should have spotted and yelled at him.
Secondly, let's make it clear what the qualifying is like. How about if in the next practicce(s) it'll be in the ky500 format, or only an open track if there's technical difficulities? Someone said that it can be confusing (when the format is switched back and forward, why not go with the one that's in the rules).
....And while you're changing the rules could you change 'Team Speak' to 'Ventrilo'. I kinda forgot to do that :D
So it is ventrilo we're using now? I bet the server slots are gonna be full with all competitors and fm people there

We will be changing the voice communication system we use from Team Speak to Ventrilo. We are doing this for improved sound quality amongst other reasons.
The server is vt.fragmaster.net, and the port is 3808.
We will be in the 'NDR Racing Team' room.
Ventrilo can be downloaded on the website, here:

No I didn't - I waited for the leaders to cross the line IIRC.
Still disagree with Deko about the handing out of penalties. DWB, Falke and Greg didn't floor it . It's the only fair punishment to be given. Correct - I should've waved off the start. I was very close to, and on heli cam watching the person that was in second place, and it looked like to me that everyone was back in formation again. However, DWB, Falke and Greg were halfway back down the home straight - and not in the formation that I saw, but I didn't know that. That's why I gave the green flag.
Also, I have changed my 'wait' bind (which was STAY AT 50MPH/80KPH - WAIT FOR GREEN). When you're waiting for the green flag, one thing that you can see is the 'green' on the end of it, especially as it's a different colour, so people think that it's green flag without reading the rest of it :(
I've changed it to being all in red now - thanks to DWB for that.
Everything up until the point where Joe pitted was really good stuff - everyone was in perfect formation, although everyone's tyres were a little cold - we might have to look at that.
EDIT: I don't want a big argument to come out of this please - just general comments and no attacks on people.

To quote a PM he sent me:
And by the way, SC period speed WILL BE 150 KPH/whatever that is in MPH. It's better for several reasons: It's around the midrange of 2nd gear for most, so wheelspin isn't too big of an issue. It helps keep the pace of the race up, and it helps keep heat in tyres.
:-)
More updates to the rules from me in the next 48 hours, too.

??? I dont see what the fuss is all about. Cant you use R2's in the race?? I think you are a nut job if you want use R2's personally. Havent tested it, but i imagine they arent faster in the first place.
I do have a problem with the one hour rule. Lets just stick to a certain number of laps. Our calculations on fuel is based on laps and not time. Lets not confuse the hell out of us. I actually found it difficult to do quick calculations after racing for a bit.

Yes you can use R2's, wich gave you a bit more grip over a few laps, but my problem is inventing a new rule for a trainig event of an event for where this rule is not enforced. Additionally I don't see how you want to enforce it. The rule is that you have to change the compound in the pitstop, and that your first stint have to be done on the compound you've qualifyed on.

Today's sessions are on the same times as the rest of this weeks, 1900 UTC and 0000 UTC.
Today's format is One-hour qualifying, that is, there is a one-hour window to get everyone qualified in. The race distance today is 60 laps, first two behind the SC, to make total laps 62. A pitstop is required.
We will be trying a new pitting procedure. During green flag conditions, you may enter the pits from the exit of turn three, as long as you enter in the "gate" created by the commitment cones. The only time the warmup lane is required to be used is on full-course yellows.
Server will be passworded at 10 after the hour at the start of each sesions (Session start time +10mins)
I will begin enforcing the Ventrilo rule from this afternoon's session. You MUST be on Ventrilo. TALKBACK is not required, you just need to listen. fragmaster.net/vt for information, PM me for assistance.

The time draws near for the cut. You need sessions ? SPECIAL LIMITED OFFER TODAY !
Sessions will be held at 19:00 UTC, and Midnight UTC.
Format, no qualifying, random grid order, THREE races. MUST pit during Green Flag.
Race 1 is 10 laps. Race 2 is 25 laps. Race 3 is 40 laps. Three-wide start for each. 5 Minute break between each.
Now, here is the SPECIAL LIMITED OFFER !
If you are in two of the three races, it'll count as one practice session. If you are in three of the three races, you'll be counted with not one, but TWO sessions attended.
So, if you need two sessions, all you have to do is be in the Kyoto 500 server for about 90 minutes at whichever session you go to.
If you're already meeting the entry requirements, but have friends/buddies on the entry list who don't meet the requirements yet, and need practice sessions, tell them about this offer ! Please please please !
I would highly expect that the more that CAN qualify, the more pressure, and therefore the more exciting, qualifying will be. I'm sure that there's 10-15 of you who are in the field no matter what, but the rest ? Just imagine the pressure of Bump Day ! I expect that this would cause an improvement in performance of some who are on the cusp.
The it WOULD really be perhaps the complete best of the complete best. Prestige ? You betcha.
I hope to see everyone there ! 20 or 25 people ? I'd love it.
Default server is Kyoto 500. If you can't find it in the list, make sure you have cruise and canreset on. I beleve these are both set to on at the moment. If that still doesn't work, use the "Join Specific Host" option.
If you have issues, PM me.
