What i'd personally want would be more fwd cars, yeah i know im a "demo racer/noob":( but, i like fwd style, and theres not many to choose from.....blooming marvelous game though :thumb: :)

Oh, and i know this belongs on another thread, but i have to add that i have also noticed that lag problem where people seemingly get ahead of everyone else......its probably just skill...looks suspicious though... :P
I'll shut up now...

more fwd? we need more AWD..

we have several FWD cars
XFGTi
FXO
UF1k
XFGTR
UFGTR

thats just under half the cars... do we honestly need more "now" ?
im sure more will come in S3 (eeesh :S) ..but if anything its AWD we need, since we only have 2

Fair do's lol, could be worse, could have no AWD cars...

Don't need to learn! It's mankinds natural tendancy to prefer RWD. Those that prefer 4WD or FWD are merely freaks. Blots in the evolutionary chain

In my opinion - RWD is the best. :) But you like what you like.

Although alot of people who have an licensed S1/2 they most likely have steering wheels and pedals RWD cars are much easier however with a mouse and KB RWD's fo me are a nightmare because your either on or off the power, no inbetween so it's wheelspin out of corners etc so its my tendancy to go for FWD cars and on the demo theres only the XFGTi so not much choice, but i am going to get a license and wheel etc :)

Nice companion for the fxo :)

And i agree we need more awd, it's just shitloads of fun.
Rwd is ofcourse shitloads of fun too, but different fun :D

RWD is simply the most effective way to accelerate a car.
But sadly, in LFS it's not very realistic, as the difference between static friction and sliding friction is almost zero.
Actually you are drifting all the time, even when the steering angle is very low, but indeed this is not possible in real life.
When you look at replays from fast drivers, they dont steer at all out of the turns, their wheels are straight and they can steer with the throttle.
In real life, the tyres have the most grip when they are sliding a very little bit, but that's just a few centimetres per second.

It's all about the optimum slip angles, rather than cm/s. :)

You can get the slip angle best on the front wheels easily enough since you can steer them, but because the rear wheels are fixed this means you need to be drifting slightly in order to get the most grip.

You are the Guru Bob. But anyways I agree with ORION in case of the static friction. I am almost sure that devs got this issue pinned on their monitors and from what they offered so far, we can just safely wait a bit for the next stage.

I mean, of course I have never even touched anything near to GTRs in my life. The most powerfull car I could try was some old Maserati Biturbo. But I still think that if real RWD cars handled exactly like S2 model, we would see many spinning Ferrari, Jaguars or even M3s on the street. (Not to mention american cars, which are not so popular here so I don't see them outside)

As you can probably tell, I'm all but the profesional racer. This is just my personal guess, which I would love to be commented by guys who can really compare with real, vibrating, smelling, pushing you to the seat racing cars.

Well, I'm not so experienced with GT cars but I drove a lot of cars and had the opportunity to try a Porsche GT3 and a Ferrari F355 Challenge on tracks. The main difference between simulation and real life is the way you behave : When you feel the acceleration, you release your feet from the gas pedal, believe me! (not speaking of lateral acceleration). And you won't accelerate to 'red zone' on little gears. From what I've tried, wheels lock quite easily, like in simulation. On the contrary, I had the impression that RWD tended to have more understeer (surprising, isn't it) : rear tyre are always oversized and get much more grip than front : when you accelerate, weight transfers from front to rear and leave your car understeering. To have it oversteer, you'll have to enter the corner too quick or start accelerating with left feet on gas

Me neither... :schwitz: In fact, I lost 1-2 seconds with XFG per lap as I'm adjusting to wheel instead of mouse now... :D

OT: Force Feedback in this game is a blast! I never really recognized till I tried one of my other racing games with my wheel... :Looking_a Also, a I drove XRT for two weeks now, I really messed up my first rounds with XFG now... Such a difference in FF...

To get S2 you need to buy S1 and S2. You get 3 options when buying IIRC.

-Purchase S1 (£12)
-Purchase S2 (£12)
-Purchase S1/S2 package (£24)

If your new you to LFS you obviously will want both packages.

Aye, and badly on FE. As I found today. Took me ages to sort out the problem, and pretty much had to totaly redo my setup =/
But as I race with a mouse, I find the tighter tracks are better then the open ones, as I can just off the gas, guide the FXO round the corner, and apply gas when needed. Never noticed the understeer upto FE :( So bad, every corner I'd run wide.

But as for RWD and digital controles. Use morse code. I rarely get a problem (unless I power on too early, so I just run 1 gear higher then I should, and if I need the extra power downshift after exiting the corner) by tapping the gas, and break, I was able to run 13 laps in BL with the FXO before I decied to pit as the tyres started to lose grip (could of gone more, but I was trying to find the best lines), and the front tyres were ~60 all over, and no bald spots, and the rear... well they was stone cold (How the hell do you warm up the rears in that car >.<).

I did that, but the problem is, is that with windows XP there's no fix for the deadzone problem...for my ps2 controllers....there's software for pc wheels, but not for the adapter which sucks! (unless anyone would know how to permanently fix it??)

This is a funny thread. You are a demo user, basically have 2 cars to chose
from, a FWD and a RWD. You say you want more FWD cars, ok, why not.
There's :
XF GTi
XF GTR
UF 1000
UFR
FX0
and you can setup any AWD car as FWD so
you could also try a FWD:
RB4
FXR

I count 7 in total. 4 different models :) Unless you are suggesting they make
both demo cars FWD ? ;) We both know that won't happen ;) Find someone
to buy S1 and/or S2 for you and 'pay' them back as you can. Else, you can't
always have everything for free.

Ok since having S2 i've changed my mind... I now think we should have actual saloon cars! like, i would like some four door touring cars....maybe an estate for variety?? I'd love to race in a makeshift BTCC.....bet you're all going to say "nahh, loada crap, we dont want one of those, especially an estate!"....but hey :shy: :D

Daedelus
20th November 2005, 09:31
A V8 supercar wouldn't go unpraised either, but a racing estate (or station wagon as we know them here) would be awesome too, and a "little" convertible simmilar an MX-5 would be superb. And before you start reminding me I'm a demo racer, I'm going S2 in three days, and possibly getting a wheel the day after.

Almost all FWD forms of racing have been covered, maybe a big saloon as well, likewise for 4WD (although it has a lot of merits and could be a huge breakthrough if someone got it to work well). So LFS is left with countless classes of racing, nearly all of them RWD.

XF GTR and UF GTR are on the powerlimit what you can use on FWD, putting couple hundred more, well..tires would be gone fast and the car would steer left (or right?) all the time because of torgue..and you couldnt get any advantage from the extra punch because you just couldnt put it on the road, thats what I have heard :tilt:

Not just Formula One, anyone remember the Panther Six?

Gunn
22nd December 2005, 22:42
...and what is this reason?
6 wheels. (http://www.f1nutter.co.uk/tech/6wheels.php) The FIA doesn't allow cars with more than 4 wheels. The Tyrrell was very successful though.

Fonnybone
24th December 2005, 19:30
The reasons are:

- There was no significant advantage in using 2 pairs of steering wheels
and/or 2 pairs of driven wheels.

- "FIA outlawed four wheel drive, and then later they outlawed four wheel
steering and just in case anyone still didn't get the message, they
stipulated four wheels only and then only the front two could steer."
