View Full Version : Race 4 - KY Ring Oval Rev

Race 4 of LXO will take place on the Kyoto Oval including a custom autocross layout which we tried to design secure within the current limitation of LFS' engine. However, there are still some challenging parts and thus we'll give you a few tips:

Although the first chicane looks fast, the following turn is quite slow. Brake early ("slow in, fast out") to avoid snap oversteer and running into the tyre stacks, especially if there is someone driving in front or next to you.
If you are too late on the brakes, don't try to turn it at all costs and use the escape routes - it'll reduce hazards for others and damage for you. Remember that drivers following the racing line have always the right-of-way over those rejoining the track.
In case someone crashed or touched the outside tyre stacks of the first chicane, you are never allowed to use gaps except for a T1 pile-up on lap 1. Otherwise, we'll enforce strict penalties for cutting.
Know the limitations of the current autocross system and be always extra careful when racing close near walls. We don't like to see flying cars because someone didn't left enough room.

It's a bloody hard layout :)

Yes it is. Hard to find the braking points.
And I did a flying car once.

PS. Another old HD for windows... let's see how long this one lasts.

You can use the road markings and different tyre colours as an orientation for braking distances.

1 thing about the layout where you get can grap mega time..

Out of the second chicane you can just go full trew the grass and grap about 1.5 sec.. maby it should be good to put som extra tires there so its just not possible?

danowat
27th May 2008, 06:06
I would imagine people would realise that going over the grass would be cutting.........

Yeah, it's possible. Although you have the risk of spinning by touching the grass.. Putting something there would be better.

We are aware of potential cutting problems there, but since it is a major run-off area and similar to the last turn situation of FE5R (http://www.lfsforum.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=56601&d=1211469047) we don't like to put tyres everywhere and trust in common sense and the high driving standard in this league. Nevertheless we will enforce our cutting rules if someone is using this gap on purpose.

IMO, it's going to be carnage

Don't be that pessimistic, Wednesday's races worked quite good because everybody had current AX limitations and difficulty of this layout in mind. :)

I just hope everyone respects it, the carnage statement wasn't directed at the drivers, more so at the shocking physics displayed that even slightly touching some of those barriers.

That just means we'll have to be extra carefull when driving close to them. This time it's slow in if you want to get out at all.

Alas, I foresee a small nudge ending up in big air.

I may be late for Qual, depends what time the WSBK race 1 finishes.

If I turn up late for qual, will I be able to join?, or will I start from the back of the grid?

Yes, you are allowed to leave the pits once in qualifying even when late - just make sure not to hinder anyone on your outlap since others are on their fast laps.

Just done 21 laps and I got it down to 1:01:53.
Not sure if that's good or not...
I'll be looking to stay out of trouble (i.e. the barriers) & just to finish!
See you later tonight :)

Haven't had time to practice too much but at least i don't crash all the time. Laptime still at 1:03 but I'll drop it before the race to around 1:01 imo.

I went from 11th to 6th on lap #1 :D
Managed to not get tangled up & then I found the groove, getting faster & faster!
Pretty happy with that race, finishing 4th :)

Bring on next week!

Was a good race. Didn't expect T1 lap 1 to go so well tbh. Went really well.

Thanks for the great racing with some :)

Taylor you passed me when polma crashed :P Cheap!
But meh, after that I was catching up then i'd screw up all th time then u were so close but I had to get on the grass by accident :'(.
After that you were just too fast lol so I was focusing on staying in front of Harry. Then he caught up fast cuz of my screw ups again. So then there was some confusion while i was tryin to let him pass and I'd accidently block him all the time lol. Then I put blinker thingys so he'd move over to the side and pass.

I'm happy with my 6th place really... At least it was a pretty clean race.

TAYLOR-MANIA
1st June 2008, 19:55
Yeah, but it was the second chicane where a number of cars slipped up...

And congratulations to the top 3 :thumb:
There's like 4 or 5 drivers who're really in a league of their own!

Oh and who made this layout? Troy?

@MrTea - Mwhahah *sings* "You can't touch this nanananana" :D
And atleast you didn't time out this time hey?!

hehe

Had a good race, somehow after the pacecar, the 3ID guys got a much better start and I was only able to hold off one. After that it was just holding on for 3rd.

Had to make an emergency mod right before the race to my case to keep my 8800gtx from overheating and crashing. I really should find a proper solution :).

Yep, was an exciting race from my point of view, unfortunately with two rather big pile-ups - need to have a look at the replay why they happened. Thanks to all drivers for great racing! Stats are now online on the LXO webpage.

Originally this layout was my work, but we both did a lot of testing to improve it as much as possible.

Damn mate don't show me were to pass unless it's a blue flag . You are fighting for your position there. When I saw that sign i was really confused. "What the heck is that, some kind of trick to take me out?!" i said to myself :D. All in all, really crappy mistake of mine at the early laps that pretty much ruined the rest of my race. No one to blame there though. Next time it will be a comeback..

1st June 2008, 21:17
Lol but at the speed that you caught up I would only have held you back for so long before it turned into a disaster O_O I'd rather let you go and get 6th then to fight and MAYBE get 5th or last. I'm not the kind to gamble TOO much. I take risks but I dnt gamble :P

Meh, disappointing... Did a good qualify making a new pb and started in the middle of the grid.

At lag lap I had a bit of input lagging in the first chicane, wich made me fear the worst. At the real start danowat passed me easily, then I slowed a lot at the chicane.. all went ok, but I was a bit too far back.

Then it seemed all those crashes at the first laps ended up with me going directly into them, wich costed me a lot... In fact I was last once, on the SC lap.. Btw Blackbird, I passed you under the SC :( You were far on the outside and I was sure I was ahead, but just saw the replay and I wasn't.

Then for the next 5 laps or so I had a little fight with jwardy, and then my connection died.

After watching the replay, there's nothing wrong with passing him. You was ahead of BlackBird at the corner exit and he then lifted the throttle on the banking to correct his overtaking manoeuvre as far as I can see.

:thumb: I like the post-race reports!

The line mentioning MrTea and I reminded me, on the Extended Race Stats page, what does Lap Time Stability mean? And what does the 'Dev.' & 'Gap' mean ?

And look at Troy with the lights to flag win :smileypul
I could tell he had some part in making it!

ussbeethoven
4th June 2008, 15:00
The lap time stability is an indicator for constant pace, i.e. the deviation between the slowest and fastest lap in a race. And the difference compared to the best driver is given by the next column (gap).
