Hi all! well, I've been planning this league for a couple months now and its finally here! :). The car used is the FZR with a %10 intake and 70 Kg restrictions to simulate the current Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car that is used in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup.
Regarding race dates, I have two proposed calendars. One that runs every week and one that runs every two weeks. You can find them both in the document. I will hold a poll to see what you guys are more happy with.
How to sign up:
Please provide your name, your LFS licence name, LFS screen name, the country you're representing, your team and whether you'll be creating your own skin and if not, as explained in the document, please provide details to the colours you wish to use.
Please write in the following format:
Name:
Licence name:
Screen name:
Country:
Team name:
I have my own skin:(yes/no + details on colours that you wish to use)
You can find all the information you need in the attachments below but sign up quick! registration closes June 7th.
UPDATE: Updated FZ50 GT3 Cup document.
Kind Regards,
Leprekaun (League administrator)

Nice one Leprekaun, looks like a good, well thought out league and I hope it goes well.

What about setups? Porsche GT3 Cup cars all use the same -locked- suspension setup and gear ratios? If values could be found from somewhere it would be very realistic :)
Check this

Edit: also this

Almost all data is here; springs are described with three numbers:
100-60-260; This means
60mm inner diameter
100mm lenght
260 N/mm spring rate

I discussed the matter of restricting other parts of setup with an InSim coder but unfortunately, he said its not possible :( so thats a rule that I'm afraid I can't restrict.

You're very welcome to join of course :) and invite some friends along too :)
Couldn't you just have everyone send you their set at the end and check?
You should be able to trust your drivers, though...

ok, I'll run restricted setups. I'll add the rule to the document but I'm going to test out the restricted downforce settings (apparently, the front wing can't be adjusted and is set at the lowest value possible). The spring rates and damper shouldn't be a problem. Brake power is also restricted so I've decided to calculate the brake power by calculating the average brake power of all WR sets.
Will add all the various restricted settings in the document once I calculate the brake power.

I would be in, but I would probably miss 3 events because I will be in Australia :(

Sounds interesting but the time isn't very convenient. If the quali starts at 11 pm and then there's 2 races it'll be quite late when it's finished, considering some people have to wake up early for work.

Sounds like an awesome idea, but I've got no team, I'm rubbish with the FZR and more importantly, I'm on the other side of the globe :(
Edit: if having a team is not absolutely necessary, I'd be interested to join. But why not run the events on weekends (Sat. or Sun.)? Mid-week racing may be difficult to accomodate for many, especially during the fall. Meant in the spirit of a friendly suggestion :)

ok, great, will add you to the sign up list. As for the skins, if you're going to make one, thats fine, no need to state colours but the idea, as stated in the document, is that if you don't, I can create a skin for you based on the FZ50 GT3 Cup skin design that I've created (cars in my avatar) but with the colour scheme that you want.
Yes, a team is required.

If the 260 N/mm are right, it's off the scale for the FZR (only goes to 250 N/mm)... From what I've understood, the only adjustable parameters in terms of suspension are the ride height and the ARB's... Gearing is fixed, as is the diff locking, but there is no mentioning of tyres and steering... Also, you've got to throw in 20 kg more ballast, as the minimum weight with driver is 1240 kg...

I think the league sounded better without the setup restrictions. I really like these cars, and the 10% intake and 50kgs ballast sound awsome to me, just dont think the fixed suspention or gearing is partiulary appealing, i know i like to change my susp. values during the race for example :shrug:

:) I have Test patch Y19.
From what I've understood, the only adjustable parameters in terms of suspension are the ride height and the ARB's...
ARBs's:
Front - five different settings
Rear - four different settings
Gearing is fixed, as is the diff locking, but there is no mentioning of tyres and steering... Also, you've got to throw in 20 kg more ballast, as the minimum weight with driver is 1240 kg...
The minimum racing weight for:
Class 997 vehicle, including the driver is 1,240kg.
Question is what "racing weight" means - how much fuel is this.
It really is hard to reconstruct these in LFS, especially considering that 997 Cup has 260N/mm springs, which none of these WR sets seem to use, they use much much less. Also car has another spring.
More on relation between "Main" and "second" springs:
http://e30m3performance.com/tech_articles/susp-tech/springs/index.htm
So considering this, actual wheel rate may not be so easily calculated, maybe it is possible to combine tender and main spring so that actual spring rate can be calculated -which is probably less then 260n/mm
If the locked setups will be used, it would be brand new car in LFS.:D:tilt:

Ok, it's also kind of important which values those are... ;)
The minimum racing weight for:
Class 997 vehicle, including the driver is 1,240kg.
Question is what "racing weight" means - how much fuel is this.
Usually, this is the weight the car has to weigh at the end of the race... But this is impossible to track in LfS, so I think it should be the weight of the car + driver without any fuel in it...
It really is hard to reconstruct these in LFS, especially considering that 997 Cup has 260N/mm springs, which none of these WR sets seem to use, they use much much less. Also car has another spring.
More on relation between "Main" and "second" springs:

Yeah, I figured... I quickly threw together a vague setup and it really is a new car... The tracks are much bumpier, but the car is incredibly stable (too stable almost)...

Ok, it's also kind of important which values those are... ;)
Heh :), written nothing since I really didn't know what to write. This also should be calculated - why? Well, this is the data on arb's
Front: steel 26.8mm diameter
Rear: steel 20.7mm diameter.
Probably it could be calculated using some formulas, steel rigidity or similiar "constants", also lenght, and one more thing is missing, this is probably outer diameter, whats with the inner...
And another thing. This is the data of the 996 911 GT3 Cup. But it should be close.
Don't know have I posted this one, but it is much detailed

Includes your number boards and name tags. Just select a layer (I've made 4, 2 for driver #1 (one white text, one black text) and driver #2 (one white text, one black text). Place at 0, 0 pixels of your .psd for it to be in the correct position.
Please don't modify. Don't worry, I've compensated all the logos for stretching ;)

cheers, have you thought about using insim to make it so you cant use any other values for Intake and Weight? like the CTRA Servers do.?
also, with the fixed setups, im assuming you are going to get everyone to send there setups at the end of the race?
for example soon as you are finished, in an order you control the setups from drivers are sent for you to look at later on, so if a driver quits to pits or doesnt send their setup is a disqualification of the race and all points for that race will be removed.?/
Leprekaun
26th May 2008, 16:54
Yep, I will request all drivers to send their qualifying setups before qualifying and before both races. I will be enforcing a no Shift+S or Shift+P rule to better enforce the fixed setups system.
I'll be adding the setup parameters to the document once I calculate the average brake power of all WR sets. I've already done suspension now but still, I think we need to do some testing to make sure that the car is driveable.
On a side note, the server is now online so if you'd like to join in, I'm on the server now.

would it not be easier for you, and less to manage if after the race finished, each driver sends there setups so u can check them after the race, so once race is finished and we are lined up in the pits, in order of finish you save each one then once its sent they spectate, so the next person knows to send the next one..
also, the setup you will be supplying, is there going to be 1 set for the whole league? or each track..
edit:
regarding all the skins etc, i would be more than happy to organise a full res set that i can send to you with everyones skins etc, and make sure they all meet requirements. (mainly because i want 2048x2048 skins on my race :P)
edit: again...
are you aware that LFS remote doesnt show your server online. i cant see it in the list, and it might be good if people want to watch..

Yeah, sure :).
@R3DMAN: At the moment, my best is 1:10.35 but still playing with tyre pressures.
To the rest of you: this isn't the final set. It still has to be tested. If it does the job round the other tracks, then we could consider it :). I'm currently working on a setup that was originally Westhill and tweaked it for Blackwood (tweaked permitted settings).
send me the set so i can test it :)

Finally!! I was wondering when you were going to sign up :D
@R3DMAN: I'd say with R2s, 1:09s are possible. I made a change to the set the day I got that lap but can't remember if I got a 1:10.35 with the new changes or the old set. If it isn't, change front pressures to 12.8 psi instead of the current 10.7.

Hello I've found more data; especially considering tyres pressure.
Ride height is measured when all 4 tyres are inflated to 1.5bar WITH driver in.
Minimum front tyre pressure is 1.43bar
Minimum rear tyre pressure is 1.32 bar.

At the moment, in suspension, only ride height and anti roll bars are adjustable, everything else has to stay as it is.
Fixed settings:
Spring stiffness: 250 N/mm R / 250 N/mm F
Bump Damping: 8.3 Ns/mm R / 6.8 Ns/mm F
Rebound Damping: 10.5 Ns/mm R / 9.8 Ns/mm F
NOTE: Dampers have been set by the average calculation of all WR sets.
For tyres, according to lovretta, minimum pressures are 143 kPa F and 132 kPa rear.
Camber, caster and Toe In are fully adjustable.
Front wing can't be adjusted (at the moment, I'm not sure if it has to be set at 1 degree or 4), rear wing is adjustable up to 12 degrees.
You must use only one tyre compound (R3s) for both qualifying and race.
The added mass position must be placed at 25% (may change to 96% to simulate the weight distribution of the 997 GT3 Cup car) with the driver weight included.
Maximum brake power per wheel is 1869 Nm (average brake power of all WR sets combined). Brake bias is adjustable but is advised to use 60%
Fixed differential setting (power: 40% / coast: 60% / preload: 180 Nm)
Fixed gear ratios:
1st: 3.167
2nd: 2.133
3rd: 1.722
4th: 1.400
5th: 1.130
6th: 0.931
Final Drive: 4.000
I've attached the set based on the following setup restrictions.
NOTE: the setup restrictions are subject to change until I can find out exactly whats restricted and to what value and how adjustable are the parts that are allowed to be adjsted.

Now I've started using the 'setup' I'm struggling to do low 11's...
I'm not sure what is so up with it? maybe the diff, or maybe the stiff suspension keep making it launch off the ground and get no drive when i hit the kerbs or something, it's a bit odd, i can't find where I'm losing the time, but it just didn't feel as quick.

thats quite a neat set. quite a bit easier to drive than the other i tried. first time out and i got into the 12's quite comfortably.
Its very heavy on hear tyres and the fronts just never get temperature so u can play aaround a bit there!
also, i play auto clutch with DFP, i start burning the clutch out about 6-7 laps in? any ideas?

lift off then change then put the gas back on... nice and simple.
If its caused by anything else, then it's down to you going too low in the gear rev range mid corner and its burning as its trying to pull up out of it
Its very heavy on hear tyres and the fronts just never get temperature so u can play aaround a bit there!
Those sets already have the minimum tyre pressures on the front.. tbh it will be almost impossible to heat them up problem with the set being stuck to this setting :shrug:
Sure you can mess with a few other things - but over a 21 lap race at BL1 then surely by the end the fronts will be stone cold?
Dizzydarryn
29th May 2008, 12:52
ok, ive played around with a whole bunch of pressures and cambers. i assume we are allowed to change those sort of things?
and ive managed to get alot more consistency into the temps, all be it over half race distance and got down to a 12.3 (still struggling with the car alot, 1st time ive ever driven it, and with 20 lap fuel load)
Im losing LOADS of time through the first chicane cause of the curbs and alos thru the last corner! i reckon, at least a second.

with this set i set the AI going on PRO with no restrictions as to get the same laptimes (1:11:xx) and by the end of the 21 laps the fronts were STONE COLD..

Do we have to have a certain skin that you have chose or anything we want? Do you want me to sign up and as soon as there is a place i will drive with messy? Also IMO the setups restrictions should be binned, or changed to suit a track based on one setup from setupgrid or something, can't help but feel the cars are going to be a dog to drive, and you have to idea what times you should be doing as we will be alot from the WR.
My fastest so far at blackwood was 1:10.1, can probably get into the 09s with further testing, car isn't so bad once you are usto it.

Some thoughts:
The new 'easier' setup restrictions were slightly disappointing.
The gearing really sucks for Blackwood. Especially the last two corners are deal breakers for me so I switched from full H-gate & clutch pedal to flappy paddles with auto clutch. The results? Nearly a sec off from my PB on 2nd lap with racing fuel on board.
But then again maybe I just suck. :shrug:

i think it's same old same old now that the hard spring setups have gone. Saying that your not gonna use the stiff springs because some people wont be able to handle it or it wont work so well on some tracks is besides the idea of the league. You might aswell allow the FXR for people that can't handle rear wheel drive.

Withdrawing from the series, if there is going to be a dick like you running it!
Why can't you say it normal way? After this message, I'm really happy that you decided to withdraw as I don't want to race against someone like you.
Have fun offending people.

I see this has been postponed and there are three slots remaining...
I would like to enter:
Name: Jamie Atkinson
License name: hardcoreobscure

Team name: N/A (see below)
I have my own skin: Sort of (see below)
I would like to join up with someone if possible, otherwise I would be a privateer. I can make skins and have a good 'possible' name / decals for the team. If anyone is interested let me know! :thumb:

ok mate if it cool 4 you , I hope to join me during this league, pls pm me if it is ok to join, so I can send you your PRT skin.
good luck :D
Pearcy that was harsh :(
But we did put a lot of effort into the series, Skins, practice, sets etc
but then again so did Lepinto organising, as far as sets go, i'd like lep or someone to make a set and everyone has to use it with no changes, wouldn't that be fair? but it's too late imo

Don't think it was harsh really, should have used a "better" word than dick, but its done now. Can really blame me can you? Ive put effort into this thing after already competing in lots of leagues, ive had the skin made, etc. The someone swears at me for something he did that was wrong and i reacted, in the end i got banned from the server for questioning the admins decision as the admin said i couldn't race for using 1 swear word, to say i was annoyed at that point was an understatement and that was the first thing i posted after.
Im on the same boat as Messy, i received an apology from Lep and i give him one in response. But still not sure if this series is for me anyway.

What if everyone should drive the same set, just can change the wheel pressure only? Just a thought... :shrug:
I said that ages ago, it won't happen I don't think.

theres these things, they call em live settings, so locking everything but the tyres=impossible to monitor.
Leprekaun
18th June 2008, 15:14
Well, it would be unfair on some drivers if they all used the exact same setup because it'll be fine for some and horrible for others and aside from that, in the real Supercup, drivers are allowed to tweak certain settings so want to keep it as real as possible ;). Devs really need to implement a setup restriction system though. I mean, can't they just do it like intake/weight restrictions but just send 132 Bytes extra?
Kristjan.J
18th June 2008, 20:39
But why don't just have the 10%intake restriction and the other if there was, and other things are changeable, it would be alot easier and not so much mess...:shrug:

cuz that wouldn't be realistic enough :)
btw, Lep, would you mind updating the race schedule. I'm not really sure if westhill is still before the summer break or its moved to fall part of the season.

By the way, in rules is listed that only r3 tyre compund is allowed.
Is it possible to make sure that nobody changes on another tyre compund than r3 during qualifing session or race?
Well maybe reviewing the replays and stats would show if anyone has made changes, but i don't think it will be a problem.

23:12
Χ @My3id|r4p slaps scipy around a bit with a dildo
23:13
@My3id|TimmY: DILDO!
23:13
+scipy: :D
23:13
+scipy: rofl
23:13
+scipy: timmy has like a highlight
23:13
+scipy: wheneva someone says dildo
23:13
+scipy: he's the first one on scene
23:13
@My3id|TimmY: :)
23:14
@My3id|r4p: lol
23:15
@My3id|r4p: saw GT3 race replay... was :X
23:15
@My3id|r4p: 8 drivers + T1 noobness
23:15
@My3id|r4p: glad we arent in it
23:15
+scipy: rofl
23:15
+scipy: i wanted to drive that GT3 cup
23:15
+scipy: until i saw their "rules"
23:15
+scipy: about a "setup"
23:16
+scipy: with 240 N/mm springs
23:16
+scipy: ktnxbye .
23:16
+scipy: idiots.
23:16
@My3id|r4p: :D
23:17
+scipy: they dont understand that in LFS
23:17
+scipy: what u set as a spring
23:17
+scipy: is a direct wheel rate
23:17
+scipy: cause it's simulated that way
23:17
+scipy: motion ratio is 1
23:17
@My3id|r4p: wheel rate?
23:17
+scipy: ehm.
23:17
+scipy: ****en zafa
23:17
+scipy: doesnt know anything
23:17
+scipy: ok
23:17
@My3id|r4p: :X
23:17
+scipy: if the spring is mounted directly above the wheel
23:17
+scipy: totally vertical
23:17
+scipy: above it's axis
23:18
+scipy: then spring rate is equal to wheel rate
23:18
+scipy: so when a wheel moves 1 inch
23:18
+scipy: spring moves 1 inch
23:18
+scipy: but
23:18
+scipy: if u ever looked under a wheel arch of a car
23:18
+scipy: coilover dampers with a spring
23:18
+scipy: are usually mounted
23:18
@My3id|r4p: :O
23:18
+scipy: a bit sideways
23:18
+scipy: like /
23:18
@My3id|r4p: yah
23:18
+scipy: if u look from front
23:18
+scipy: this means that
23:18
+scipy: as a wheel deflects 1 inch
23:18
+scipy: spring is gonna deflect more
23:18
+scipy: cause it has "leverage" over the wheel
23:19
@My3id|r4p: yah
23:19
+scipy: via the suspension arm etc
23:19
+scipy: so
23:19
+scipy: u acutally use harder springs
23:19
+scipy: or softer
23:19
+scipy: depending on the motion ratio
23:19
@My3id|r4p: i see
23:19
+scipy: how much wheel moves compared to how much spring moves
23:19
+scipy: divided by 2
23:19
+scipy: or sumtin
23:19
+scipy: SO
23:19
@My3id|r4p: but theres one thing i dunno understand
23:19
+scipy: IRL porsche
23:19
+scipy: will use a 240 N spring
23:19
@My3id|r4p: :O
23:19
+scipy: but the motion ratio
23:19
+scipy: will divide that
23:19
+scipy: by some value
23:20
+scipy: so u will get a "wheel rate"
23:20
+scipy: of 90 N/mm
23:20
+scipy: but in LFS we use 90 right away
23:20
+scipy: cause the spring is simulated as a vertical force thingy
23:20
@My3id|r4p: :O
23:20
+scipy: if u look at the F view
23:20
+scipy: u will notice it's just a huge verical bar.
23:20
+scipy: so motion ratio = 1
23:20
@My3id|r4p: :X
23:20
+scipy: so 240 N/mm spring in LFS = idiotic.
23:20
+scipy: so GT3 cup = idiotic
23:21
+scipy: and run by idiots.
23:21
@My3id|r4p: yaya.. is all good - but i dunno understand something
23:21
+scipy: :D
23:21
@My3id|Evolution: i like the conclusions
23:21
+scipy: :D:D
23:21
@My3id|r4p: what does this have to do with u and dildoes?
23:21
+scipy: i should start charning these convos
23:21
+scipy: u see
23:21
+scipy: a dildo has it's springrate
23:21
@My3id|Evolution: rofl
23:21
@My3id|r4p: true
23:21
+scipy: so depending on how the tip is tilted in regards to the base
23:21
@My3id|Banister: hahahaha
23:21
@My3id|r4p: u move 1 inch, doldo moves 2?
23:21
+scipy: this is important
23:21
+scipy: cause the motion ratio changes
23:21
+scipy: exactly!
23:22
@My3id|r4p: i gets it
23:22
+scipy: i think i've peaked the humor of that
that conversation might shed some light :x

LoL! Start and the end was funny, nearly fell asleep in the middle though, we all know how much you know about dildo's so i doubt anyone will contest that. :razz:

Scipy i don't know about Porsches and stuff, but LMPs for example use something close to 1:1 ratio. As i said, dunno about road cars but i'd say it's colse to that too (not so in the double wishbone setup, is so in the MacPhearson strut and trailing arm, that one has a lower ratio since the spring is not mounted on the axle line). And yes, there is a slight angle but once you have angles of 70° (MacPhearson strut) and over, the differences are small. When the spring is at 64° and the force at 90° (or when they are 26° appart, you'll have 90 % of the wheel force acting on the spring (and the 10% acting in some other way, not doing any work on the spring). So it's not so huge. Again, don't know about double wishbone setups as i haven't really seen any up close and personal, but i do know something about leverages and stuff mainly from physics and the other part from mountain bikes (where anturally, the closer you get to 1:1, the nicer the bikes acts when riding over small bumps since the shock is more sensetive to small changes as it's got a long stroke and stuff, also the leverage is important since you get a progresive or regresive suspension. Generally linear or progresive is better since regresive will make it easy to obttom out, but there are other sweetspots and stuff - it really is a science).
