Almost everyday I see new threads about "I can't set up my wheel in LFS" or "Is DFP only for the PS2?" threads. Some general "Wheel FAQ" thread would be great. Altough I got this idea I think I'm not up to do that. Is anyone else? :)

It would be good add it also to Wiki but if it was a simple and short sticky thread here at the forums, I think more people would read it before posting to the technical assistance forum.

Even searching the forum is of little use because of the mountain of badly named threads - 'need help' doesn't tell you anything about whats in the thread.
There is the LFS manual and LFS wiki but by the time you've found them they're still filled with far more information than you might be looking for.
I think a system a FAQ threads would work.
BTW can someone give me a crystal clear answer of what controller attachment the DFP comes with out of the box, usb? I've heard it being sold with an adaptor on some sites and seem to get contradicting advice on forums by people that don't actually know.

Probably a good idea to have a few stickied FAQs, best off in the Newbies area I reckon.
ajp71 - The DFP has a USB plug, the adaptor mentioned could well be the power adaptor.

you can find almost all answers to these question if you use the search function or look around in the subforums a little bit.
But people don't do that.
What makes you think they would read a FAQ first?

oh .. i got an answer for a FAQ:
Are cars moddable in LFS?
..no!
I think the correct answer would be more useful. We do have Slickmod and Mecanik, at least...

no one would read the FAQ anyway.. i post on numerous R/C car forums and no one reads them besides a rare few people

mostly these threads aren't useful anyway.
there are also enough threads with a well chosen title.
just look in the wheels forum, there should be every info about the DFP you need e.g.

anyways, i'm not saying a FAQ is a bad thing, but it just won't stop these threads with the same questions over and over again. that was my point.

You know you can search the posts for keywords like DFP instead of just the thread titles, right? It will even highlight the keywords when you open a thread in the searchresults.

Yes we need stickied FAQ threads and yes, far too many new people won't read them. Why? When I get interested in something, I GET INTERESTED! I remember finding LFS (S1) back in February. I remember finding the forum for it on RSC. I remember sitting and reading and reading and reading, trying to absorb as much information as I could. I did that when I first joined The US Pits for Nascar 2003, I did it when the wife bought me a guitar for Christmas last year, I did it when I found a great forum on 4wheeling when I was into that, I did it when I bought my first motorcycle 4 years ago, I found informative forums and read to become informed! I didn't join the Yahoo Honda Nighthawk motorcycle group, then jump right in and ask "Ah, should I use motorcycle or regular automotive oil in my bike?" There was plenty of month long discussions on motorcycle vs. automotive oil that came up at least ever 4 months. The same goes on here, people join in and first thing they do is ask the same old question about their DFP or Momo. How many posts do we have now that someone has said how to fix the pedals on the Momo? I know I've posted many links in different threads to Mozso's site for the easily done Momo repairs. This is just society and people just don't want to look for info themselves when it's just easier to hit "new post" and ask "will the DFP work on a PC?"
Always an excellent idea to have a FAQ page or sticky threads, but they won't be used all that often. But it would be much easier for one of the veterans to just post a link to the sticky in the next thread someone posts about "which wheel should I get?" instead of it turning into a 20 post discussion that we just had 2 days ago, 3 times last week, and 2 times the week before.

Yes but you still get the thread title in the search, so you've got to be lucky to find a thread that's relevant. IMO I'd rather ask a question if it takes more than 5 minutes searching to get an answer and if people ask a question that I can't find the answer to in 30 seconds on this forum, seeing as I know what I'm looking for then I have no problem with that.
FAQs do work, the GPL FAQ is incredible, saved me hours of searching and asking :)

This is the Wheel setup guide I typed for another LFS forum. If someone can use it, take it, but give credit if youre puttin it somewhere else.

So is anyone up to this job? I can't because I don't actually know what all the controller options even do (of course I can read from the manual or from the wiki what they do but it's different than to actually know and explain what they do).
