It'll be a hard race
For sure.
Having a week long break will make it more competitive too, as some will have more time to put the practice in...
It's a nice long track with plenty of places to pass & to make mistakes :D
Gonna be great I think. Especially with the car selections.
What a climax! The pole position point & fastest lap might be crucial.
Can't wait - Bring it on! :)

WEll, here's the championship deal.
Hyntty's win pulled him within ten of Taylor...Taylor is on 204, Hyntty, 194. Kab is not mathematically out yet, but is realistically out.
For Kab to win the cup, There need to be at least 14 racers in the classified results for there to be enough of a points spread avaialble. If kab gets pole and fast lap, there is one less finisher to worry about. Taylor effectively needs to earn less than 6 points, and hyntty less than 16, and kab MUST win in that case.
For Hyntty to win the cup, he must get pole and fast lap and finish first with Taylor finishing 9th or worse. hyntty will not win a tie between he and Taylor even if hyntty wins, as taylor and hyntty will both have 2 wins, but taylor will have 1 2nd and hyntty none (as it stands right now)
All Taylor has to do to win the title is finish 8th or higher.

You mean he's (he has).
Hynnty - if you and Taylor finish equal on points, deko looks at the number of wins to decide who wins the cup. If those are equal then he looks at the number of 2nd positions you have scored. Taylor has one 2nd position, you have none, so Taylor would win the cup. I think this method for deciding a winner is called "countback".

/me hadn't thought of that until I changed server combo last night :(
What will make it interesting, is that the cars are so different to each other. The FZ5 is like a tank, the LX4 like a mosquito and the RAC is like, um, I don't know. Hopefully, everyone will have someone to race against.
Due to the fact that this is a really long track, there will be NO SAFETY CAR. It'll just ruin the race and make it take soooo long!

NO SAFETY CAR.
I was already planning on this from the preplanning stages of the season. I will just convert the SC to a 3rd Rescue Car (still called Safety Car) to divide the track up beter to give people shoves out of gravel pits and such.

Heh, I had to laugh at you lot! But if you want to crash me you'll have to catch me first! :D
I done 13 laps today & I'm currently down to 2:56:8. I'll probably get close to completing 200 laps over the 2 weeks, so I think there's another 3 or 4 seconds to be had...
FZ5 has TC (:thumbsdow) & is too wide, but it's much faster in a straight line. It's a beast that needs taming!
The RAC is just an odd car & feels really awkward to me, but it has a turbo & isn't too shabby at cornering...if you can handle it that is.
But I'll use the LX4. Nice & nimble, but it has a low top speed in comparison & is very light...so the slightest touch could end in disaster!
I had fun lapping on my own with it so I won't get bored..but it'd be nice to find some other LX's to play with in the race, as I'm gonna go out of my way to avoid all possible contact with the RAC & FZ5!
Looking forward to it, one of my favourite combos (I don't have many) :)

Not that I'm giving up or anything.... but seriously, Taylor only has to finish 9th; I hate these cars; I don't know the track; I've hardly driven any laps.... I'd skip the whole event if there wasn't a theoretical chance to win.
Though I think we are all winners here! At least those of the 50 sign-ups who bothered to show up. And a 2nd or 3rd anyway isn't too bad. And (not to brag, of course) I was pretty good, but my races often went wrong because of someone else.

Anything could happen! There's a chance I'll screw it right up for myself by mounting the curbs, hitting a tyre wall, dipping my tyres onto the grass, spinning around, hitting a wall & then finally ending up on the roof! And then you can just cruise to the victory!

Indeed. I didn't even expect to win a race, let alone lead the championship. So if I miss out on winning the Cup i'll be happy with what i've achieved, learnt & gained from the whole experience. But if I do win i'll be even more happy! :D
And yes, you are pretty damn good Hyntty...as are others like Mr.T, Technique, Kabliuks, Juurme...etc. Of course there are many other good racers aswell, but maybe they aren't quite as fast such as Rob, Stan, Jack, Marlbro, McColl to name a few...
But I can say I've enjoyed racing with everyone & I'm looking forward to the final round.

It's quite hard to put a whole lap together with no major errors. Or even a small number of minor errors can screw it up collectively. Quali will be a challenge I think. And T1 is so very narrow & sharp followed by that tight chicane...excercise extreme caution like never before everyone!

sorry, cant hold RAC steady, so back to LX4 seat :) i cant understand how can you be so danm fast!! i can do 3:00, but 2:50.... cant imagine...how?? i cant find a braking point after a first long straight on the bridge, than having dificulties with that dangerous chicane wich was T1 in FEGreen round, and than those five or six last corners, wich seem to be made for drifting...

24th March 2008, 13:43
mwuahah, I was lying to make everyone panic and practice hard.. :) With RAC, if you don't push the car at all and just drive the safest line possible you should be able to get 2:58 easily with default set.

i cant find a braking point after a first long straight on the bridge
I usually drive with driving line on :( I really wish they would get rid of that feature. It's very useful because you can use it as a marker for your braking lines (whereas usually you have to use objects on the side of the road) but it's unrealistic.
On the bridge I'm 100% brakes when it's yellow but my braking distances might be slightly longer because I'm pretty bad at heal-toe. It's easy to lock the brakes there which will increase your braking time and destroy your tires.
than having dificulties with that dangerous chicane wich was T1 in FEGreen round
The chicane after the bridge section? That's actually one of the places where I have the least amount of trouble. I usually trail brake into the chicane, find a line where I can go straight through, keep the wheel straight and floor it... I think anyway. I haven't practiced here in a while. I have a feeling I can go MUCH faster through there. I'll have to analyze my time with the WR - the problem is there is no good WR for this track. The current WR runs very loose while I've seen drivers be very smooth and get equivalent times. The next WR lap is ~4 seconds slower.
than those five or six last corners, wich seem to be made for drifting...
I'm awful at just about every turn after the first 2 splits :( Through the first 2 splits I'm on pace for a good lap. All hell breaks loose after that and I usually wind up running a ~2:56. Wish I had more time to practice... :(

Hmm. That's true Tech, good point. But if you're against using them then just don't (I bet you will though?!). You asked so I told you...but now you mention it, it is a little bit bad for the WR holders actually, considering they haven't willingly shared it...
But having said that, I personally don't have any reasons to not share my setup with anyone...even if I spent 3 hours in the FPs tweaking it the best I can, I'd still share it with my competitors.
I'm reasonably confident in my racing ability to compete against anyone with the same (or different) setup.
If people feel that their setup is the main key to their success then perhaps they should focus more on their racing skills rather than the setup
I mean I could try as hard as I can to beat a WR with the same setup from that site, but no matter how hard I try I couldn't do it.
I'd need to adjust that setup to my own preference to have a chance...not adjust my driving for that setup, you see?

I didn't mean any offense :) After all, it's not your site! :) To answer your question nope I won't be using them - but for other reasons. I won't be able to make this race! :( Certain family stuff came up that's more important than this game - so I wish everyone luck in the final round.
Also, to paraphrase a book I'm reading, the difference between 1st place and 3rd place is the amount of work and knowledge spent tuning a car. At our level it really doesn't make much of a difference, but at the WR level I would imagine people might work quite hard working on their setups just to extract a few hundredths of a second. It should really be up to them to decide whether they want to share their hard work. Does that mean I won't use that site? Well I don't know! :) but I am going to work hard to learn how to setup my car properly... something I'm pretty bad at right now!

Heh, none taken atall :)
I just read through my post now & there are some contradictions...such as spending 3 hours (which was a slight exaggeration) tweaking a setup but then saying the setup doesn't matter too much!
I'm also really wanting to learn how to make setups properly...I mean more than just the basics. At the moment it's just trial & error & a bit of luck to find 'the sweet spot'. I'm waiting on an updated Advanced Setup Guide & looking into the VHPA by Bob Smith which helps loads...
But at my current level of setup abilities I need something to work from, a base setup. And what better to start with than the WR?
I do kinda feel slightly guilty using them, but I do change it somewhat & I'll never beat their times so I doubt they'd care a great deal if I use it :D
I wonder how many WR's are made using a setup largely based on a past WR setup uploaded on Inferno or elsewhere...alot I think.

I've been trying to get to grips with setups while this cup has been on, because i've relied too much on saying "hey [fastest driver name here], can I try your setup?" all the time. The best way ive found is to change one component at a time, and go from the maximum setting to the minimum, and learn what it feels like through exageration. So for example, using the MRT which is very responsive to setup changes, whack the anti-roll bars all the way up, and go drive 10 laps of (the awesome :thumb:) Sam Speedway, then set them to the minimum, and you'll learn instantly what a change to roll bars feels like. Now set one to max and one to min, and so on. I've played like this in single player mode for ages, it's actually quite a lot of fun :smileypul. Very time consuming tho.

I will be unable to be at FP4, for sure, as I will be en route back to Athens. I will be back in time for the quals. At least I'd better be.

Is 7.00 BST just 7PM when the clocks go back?
(Which would be 6PM current GMT time)

All Competitors:
Please note that overtaking is strictly prohibited at the following corners:
Turn 2 (the chicane)
Turn 9 (the next chicane)
Turn 12 (that nasty left-right-left onto the back straight - with big kerbs)
The Last Corner.
This is to avoid large pile-ups. There are still plenty of other places to overtake (T1, T7, T8, T10, T14, T20, T21)
Obviously, if there is a car crawling along at 5 mph in front of you when you come to one of these corners, you may still overtake, but with care.
Penalties:
1st time offence: Warning (or if serious enough, DT)
2nd time: DT
3rd time: DQ
