Whatever you do dont get an ATi card unless you really liek them which if you do..your the only one that does that I know of..

I just got an 8600GT and I can play Crysis on medium/low settings and I can max FPS in LFS at 110-120. The GTS might be better but I lost the chart I used to have about all the newst nvidia grafix cards.

Search for some reviews of the cards you want, articles that directly compare the ones in your price range would be best. That way you can get a balanced idea of what to do and not a totally unhelpful statement of; whatever you do don’t get an ATI card.

I have an OC 7600gt for sale which is only just behind the 8600Gt performance wise.

I got a sapphire hd2600xt for around 130€/90 pounds (it's cheaper nowadays), I can play at 1680x1050(/100fps limit) with everything maxed just fine. I'm totally happy with the card.
My processor is a c2d E6550, 2 gigs of ram.
If you've got a little more money left you can go for a 3850, this one might be even quicker.

Don't ever listen to stupid replies like scooby's... following garph's reply might be the way to go here.

According to tom's hardware web:

2600xt=~8600gt
1950gt=~8600gts

should I trust this?

If I spend more money 3850 or 9600gt?

PS. Thanks for the replays.

It's more than a "bit" behind actually.

TBH i'd stay away from the (imo) dire 8600's - look at the 3850 range.

If I manage to sell my 7600gt agp I'll go for 3850.It seems to be the best option.

So, before going to ebay, if any on this forum wants it just send me a pm.

Thanks, again, for the replays.

8800GT = £135.

3850 Pro = £90

8600GTS = £70.

Can you see what might be in his price range and what isn;t?
