View Full Version : Tracks without barriers

What if there is track layout that hasn't any barriers to control the route? By using waypoints we could make really unique racing tracks, possibilites would be almost infinite. Just a hunch, but shouldn't be too hard for devs to make one whole race track (Just remove the obstacles).
I would love to have this option in LFS. What about you?

I would like to see this. Would be nice if it was like GPL too, like where you can drive outside the track, and just drive about. I quite like how much freedom it offers :D

Well, of course there are barriers to prevent you from leaving the area...

I always like the idea of the search button. (har har)
This has come up literally dozens (hundreds?) of times in the past. It is not possible without a re-write of the graphics engine. Scawen explained this back when the official LFS forums were still hosted on RSC.

Search button doesn't search RSC-forum...
Sounds pretty odd that it is impossible because of graphics engine. But you have been here much longer, so I'll just have to believe you.

No, but it does work on these forums, and this has been brought up here many times in the past on these forums, too. Probably even more here than there ;)

It's got something to do with the way the engine picks what to show and what to hide; it works along a path system and can't handle multiple routes. It's more complicated than that, but that's the gist of what I got from Scawen's explanation IIRC.

I tried multiple search words. The problem was that the thread name can be just about anything in this kind of discussion.
<sarcasm>Forgive me I haven't been here at the start... </sarcasm> ;)

A game called Grand Prix Legends. Quite good, cars doe feel abit odd but its quite good fun. Its all about racing cars from the older generation, theres stingrays, lotus elans, lotus cortinas, escorts etc.
You can pick it up nowadays for £5 off of ebay.

That is true enough, but a few tries and you should hit one of the threads I'd bet. ;)

You're thinking of GT Legends. Grand Prix Legends is a sim by Papyrus which depicts the 1967 Formula 1 season. No Elans, Cortinas or Escorts there; just pretty Ferrari 312s, Lotus 49s and the like ;) There's also that amazing 1968 (69?) mod of the winged beauties.
Hmm... damnit... now I want to play it, but I'm up at school and don't have the disc. :(

Actually, six tries and I didn't found anything relevant.
