hey mods.. can we get a sticky on how this whole thing works, because we get lots of questions about thisNot really, the official line is that we won't respond to extra unlock requests.

We can't have a sticky saying "mail Victor whenever you want another" because he really doesn't want loads of annoying mails, from people who can't manage their unlocks properly. It's a bit sad to say, that we already have known cases where we have got mails from people who claim they've reformatted their hard drive several times and unlock LFS each time, for some unknown reason, and the actual truth is they've been giving away unlocks to unlicensed users.

At any time we may simply stop responding to unlock requests. It really can't be that hard to keep an unlock spare. It's not like you need a new unlock each time there's a patch or anything like that. And the license agreement only allows you to keep LFS unlocked on two computers, for your own use.

but the "old" keys expire as you request a new one? right? so you atleast cant use it online?

Scawen

Well, it doesn't work like that.

Anyway, my previous post looks a bit too harsh, sorry about that. Of course, nearly all the requests have been genuine. Only the suggestion of putting it in a sticky, reminded me of the few times we've been tricked by someone and of course that's not nice, when someone's lying to you and you're doing them a favour!

The best thing is if people can just unlock when they get a new computer and the computer's up and running. Then it should be very rare that they need to request an unlock. Sometimes they do need to though, and that's when we can help.

then we should make a thread stating that you should always make sure you download lfs and then test the demo to see that it is running correctly ;)

no worries though, didnt take your thread harsh ;) makes since :)

and what about the possibillity (<-written correct?) of a freely license give back for re-install and then get a new one?

means, give your actual key wich will become invalid (and unusable), like some keys of microfts sp2 blacklist.
Then get a fresh key just for you out of this BIG numberspace.
Anyway i don't get the point in this 3-tries system.
Why not just give a key to ligitimated users if needed and good.

:D Ive only had to unlock lfs once so far, I dont play everday but I take countermessures so I dont forget how many I have left or if its alright to reformat, but comeon most people that play this are an older crowd or older teenagers. By now you should of learned responsibility its not hard:thumb:
please don't flame me haha :x I just must have high standards

I've bought S2 in June this year, and never had to use a second unlock.

There are a few friends of mine which like to play racing games and I always have a copy of LfS and my wheel with me when I visit them.
I unlock the game on his computer, we play and when I leave I lock it again.

So I lose one unlock every time I play on one of my friends PC. Is that right?

How about getting 1 unlock back if you lock the game again?

If I understood it correctly you are allowed to unlock LFS on two computers, if those two are yours. So there shouldn't be more than two unlock-codes that can be used online. But as you can unlock LFS once every month it's hard to keep track which codes are the active ones and which ones have gone down the drain with reinstalls and such. So basically if you have reinstalled LFS 12 times in last 12 months (!) you basically have 12 active unlock codes (=12 x LFS). And you can basically have unlimited number of LFS folders inside one computer (or is this allowed?) (one for mecanik, one for slickmod, one for both, one more..) so limiting unlocks isn't easy in that perspective.

I have two LFSs in my comp, one for online and the other for mecanik/slickmod/ghostcar so I have 2 active LFSs, though I never use the latter for online. Makes it easy to have those mecanik's car settings separated from my racing ones ;)

Why separate for ghostcar? Works fine for me with the single copy of LFS on my hard-drive... But perhaps you want to use it together with mecanik... It's nice to have options :)

You finished?

I replaced the lock.
But you got a real problem with that door.

You fix the lock?

Nah, I replaced the lock.
But you gotta fix that door.

- Just fix the lock!
- Sir, sir, sir. Listen to me.

What you need
is a new door.

- I need new door?
- Yeah.

Okay. How much?

I don't... Sir, you're gonna have to call
somebody that sells doors.

You try to cheat me, right?
You have a friend that fix door?

Nah, I don't have a friend
that fix doors, bro.

Then go and fix the ****ing lock, you cheater.

You... You know what?

Why don't you just pay for the lock
and I won't charge you for the time.

You don't fix the lock!
I pay! You think I'm stupid?

You fix the ****ing lock,
you cheater!

- I'd appreciate if you'd stop calling me names.
- Then fix the ****ing lock!

I replaced the lock!
You gotta fix the ****ing door!

You cheat!
You ****ing cheater!

- Fine. Don't pay.
- What?

- Have a good night.
- What? No. Wait!

Wait! You come back here!
You fix the lock!

Come here! You fix my lock!

Fix the ****ing lock!

I've gone through two other motherboards in 1 month. First one got a corrupted bios, second had a common problem with MSI K8N boards with a keyboard controller failure. Some people do have naturally crappy luck with computers. I thought you wouldn't be able to play online with people that are using unlocks from your account, even if its a different unlock key.

had it for a few days and unlocked it twice, the first one was on a copy of lfs (ie copy of folder) to test how the unlocking thing went, then i did it on my proper version, i wont be doing it again though, although i am considering haveing a copy of the folder just for Mechanik

why...? mechanik is a seperate program that does absolutely nothing to the game...?

why did you have to 'test unlock' too? all your doing is the same thing as signing in @ lfs.net?

Well, you can have you setups for those mecanik cars and replays and stuff in its own folder. And there is always a little danger when having additional progs running with LFS (my precious...).

..you can save the mechanik things in different folders?
..this still confuses me, why waste that much space just for a tiny program that does absolutely no harm?
if it did.. why would fonny release it..?

Moonclaw
28th December 2005, 19:20
Because Fonny is planning to take over the world, little by little, and before you even notice, he's running everything.

Personally I don't see a problem with current unlock system and amount of keys to use, too much kindness and people exploit it.
