I think the TBO class is a good choice Shaun, close racing, 3 to choice from, and i like the idea of penalty for changing car during season..:thumb:

Looks nice Fordie but i've had alot of gremlins with my wheel, pedals and the biggest shitter, LFS crashing mainly during OLFS races. If I get these sorted out I will try and get the signed up, but no promises yet.

Hi All,

Well I hope you all had a Very Nice Christmas and a Happy New Year.

ESL UK LFS still has a requirement for a News Writer. We require somebody to write some news about the league races. You will need to be dedicated, and also have a flair for capturing the audience attention, and be of good written English. (unlike me :) )

For more information, please send me a PM and I will be in contact.

Thank you all

Regards

TBO Only, don't re-organize it at this late notice! It's got the most votes, let's keep it that way!

Only just tho :scratchch but then again there ain't alot of votes overall, which is very sad really..

Well, I am going to sign-up, and this time I will hopefully make the full season.....

Dan,

No Conspiracy.., just forgot to check that i ticked everything before i clicked submit, but i voted for them all :D

Fordman
6th January 2006, 13:44
 Yes, I clicked on it, but obviously missed, then clicked on the rest, and clicked Submit Vote then when I checked, it said 0,1,1,1 for votes.

Fordman
6th January 2006, 15:36
The votes are so mixed that there is no obvious favourite. TBO is the obvious choice, it currently has the most votes (by 2 seeing as you didn't click it Fordie :P) and it is what has been said as the class being used everywhere you advertised it.

When do the "Official" sign ups start? We still need to gather more interest for this league some how.

Official Sign up will be open, hopefully by this time next week. We have a dedicated news Writer now. Thisnameistaken has taken the role of "Official" ESL UK LFS News Writer, Thanks thisnameistaken :thumb:

6th January 2006, 19:10
So we going for the random car choice system? It's the only way to use the TBO class and stop it just being an FXO league.

Just as an aside. Why would it be hard to change the arrangements? Noone has signed up for anything yet.

Season 2 is almost ready for Sign up. Sign up open 14th January. There has been some important additions to ESL LFS UK this year. One has been the dedicated news writer as mentioned above. This will help promote ESL LFS UK to other drivers in time.

Another important addition is we now have our own dedicated server that is based in the UK. This is being supplied by http://www.xtremeservers.co.uk and I would like to thank Paul from XtremeServers for supporting the ESL UK. The server will be live 24/7 and be in use for ESL Drivers only.

This season will be the final season that a Premium Account is not required. The following Seasons you will need a Premium Account, so obviously the driver than wins this Season, gets a free Premium Account and thus doesn't have to pay for the next season.

This is a very exciting time for ESL UK and LFS and this is another possitive step.

I would like to thank all the drivers that support the ESL UK LFS, for now and the future.

Regards

The only way to sign-up is on the ESL website. Did you register to the website 1st? Fill this in? http://www.esl-europe.net/uk/lfs/errc/register_player/

If so then you need to go here to register for this championship: http://www.esl-europe.net/uk/lfs/errc/signup/

The top and the bottom box should say 'No'. If they do then click 'add' beside the top one 1st. The top box is for your 'lfs_world' name. This is your LFS Username. Be sure to select 'LFS-World Nick' in the drop-down box to the left of the textfield.

The bottom box is for your 'lfs_ingame' name which is your REAL 'Firstname Lastname'. Again click 'Add' and this time select 'LFS Ingame Nick' in the drop-down box and type in your real name beside it.
Once all that is done go back to: http://www.esl-europe.net/uk/lfs/errc/signup/ and make sure all the boxes now say 'Yes'. If not post a screenshot of what it says.

BTW, there's only 1 place left so you better hurry :)

There is a topic here http://www.esl-europe.net/uk/lfs/errc/forum/1325/ called "Numbers and Skins for Season 2" read that topic. I'd actually recommend reading them all. Especially the rules: http://www.esl-europe.net/uk/lfs/errc/rules/

It's probably to keep us non-admin minions out so we can't all complain about the evening setting from last night :D :scratchch

Dan,

sidi
14th March 2006, 14:18
It did not bother me to much about the evening setting but to make that decision 10 mins before a race and by 2 admins who took part in the race was bang out of order :(

I can't speak for the other drivers but i like to get into a frame of mind before a race and have afew different plans in my head incase things dont go to plan and to throw different lightning into mix 10mins before race was very off putting and ruined my night.

Maybe in the future these things could be added to the rules that changes can occur at any giving race and upon entering server the admin can announce what the weather and wind will be so none of us are taking by surprise :)

danowat
14th March 2006, 14:27
TBH, having the evening setting wasnt a major problem, but I do agree that the way it was introduced, 10 mins before the race, was not the best way to do it.

Maybe an annoucement on the ESL forum saying that conditions can and will change in future events would be a better bet, or at least something more realistic like a weather forecast leading up to the event, you can argue that weather conditions change IRL, but they rarely change from daylight to evening 5 mins before the start of a race (if the race starts in the day).

Overall it wasnt the best race ever but thats the way it goes.

Dan,

Gentlefoot
14th March 2006, 14:55
Bothered me a bit in quali but by the time I was racing I'd forgotten all about it. Besides, nothing was gonna make me any slower lets face it. lol

danowat
14th March 2006, 15:13
Never once suggested anything of the sort, I spoke my mind, again which I should have learnt from last time, that I didnt think changing it so close to the race was a good idea, I made my point and left it at that.

Regardless of the conditions, I doubt they would make me any slower anyway ;)

I understand the reasons for doing it, but the execution of it wasnt the best way to do it, but its a good idea to mix up conditions, adds something else into the mix.

Dan,

nikimere
14th March 2006, 15:19
I believe I could've kept my record of being on the podium at every race if it wasn't for Nikimere, it's not the first time he's severely disadvantaged me in a race, South City comes to mind. Ironically it will be his team mate who benefits from his actions.
Ha ha ha ha! i think we have more important things to worry about in life that to create a conspiracy that revolves around you!
If you think it's all my fault that your race was ruin then put a complaint in and stop moaning... :x
2 perfectly innocent incidents followed by an obvious attempt to put me off the track imo.

Well i suppose Kev's post is directed at me then,i said on the server we only have there word that we were all in the same boat,i also believe and very much hope the decision they made was in the best intentions but the timing was wrong and they have left themselfs wideopen to accusations.

Dave, I think you are missing my point, the point I was trying to make before the race was not due to the change in conditions, but rather the way the change was implemented, TBH I wouldnt care if the next race was at night, with howling wind and driving rain, as long as I had more than 5 mins notice.

If the point was made at the beginning of the season that conditions can, and will change, then there would be no problem, but to spring it upon us 5 mins before the race was a bit off TBH.

In truth, how many people were aware of the change before we all turned up on the server?, and when was the decision made to change the conditions?.

About the weather:
As we all know Live For Speed offers different lightning conditions and also wind, and I hope that someday it also have rain and fog etc. This game wants to be a real Sim and we want the feeling of beeing real drivers. (Imagine heavy rain + fog on Kyoto GP or Aston historic ;))
But for some reason no one uses the options we already have, 99% of all servers are set to bright clear, no wind, what is not really realistic...
Indeed it was a bit of an unlucky thing to introduce it that late to you guys (:thumb:), I think it's added some thrill, as it was not the usual conditions....
In my opinion, if you want always the same clinic conditions then you can also go hotlapping and try to drive the perfect lap what can be also really exciting.
About complainments:
If you have something to complain about, accidents, bad habbit etc. feel free to say it to us (we can't see everything, but we try to).
I also spend the morning with rewatching the yesterday race and my notes are sent to the other admins, to decide in a group about any penalties...

Again about the weather:
how about turning some wind on for the next race? :D

Hi All, is it safe to come out yet:schwitz:

The weather. Well, Me and Gav have mentioned this before on the Admin section of the forum on ESL. We wanted to drop a surprise. We both agreed that we would not practice it, and both being gentlemen we stuck to it. We would need something serious to win these races guys, not just a little darkness.

We didn't tell you because, as said, wanted to throw something in, to make you think, oh shite, OK, lets do this. Everybody including myself and Gavin was in the same boat.

On the ESL Forum, me and Gav have already apologised ( but you can't see it :D ) so please, lets just leave it at that.

As Jan said, he has watched the replays numerous times. We ( the Admins ) will meet up later to discuss, but there is no reflection on the results, so these will be present later.

Personally, I had the worst race ever. Car wanted to do its own things, backend was as loose as a 5$ **** and I was actually safer off the track than on it, hence my early retirement. I am trying to locate my mechincs at T7R and give them a damn good slapping :D

@Niki and CP, you to remind me of Alan Menu and John Cleland in the good old BTCC days. Lets just keep it friendly :thumb:

@3J have you not read any of the above posts?

Weather is great, fantastic, unbelievably outstanding,we all need weather in our lifes.

Surprises can be bad, they can change your mood, maybe cause shock, and worst of all it can make little children cry (plz dont use last example to make some witty comment)

Ok i have probably doubled my post count on this thread and said what i had to i also took a double dose of trust medicine and feel alot better now :)
BTW race 1 was ok for me i had a nice battle with jack for afew laps but had to ease off as it was doing my tyres no favours, race 2 was craptastic i got caught up in afew ppl's spins got some damage blah blah blah overall pretty poor but thats racing :)

Fordman
14th March 2006, 17:05
Just to finally concrete this suject. NOBODY ( except the Admins ) knew about the weather change. For the people that was on early enough, have a look through your replays, you see me say to Gavin, Lets do it, and he replys, "What, Now?" and if I had practiced that config, don't you think I would of done a little better than last and retired  :D

nikimere

Funny, I'd assumed you had a turn-in point on the outside of the track (because I do too) and when I was watching the race I was wondering what you'd do when you reached the corner and realised you couldn't tell where it was! ;)

Dan,

No news on forum as yet. Results, well what a pain in the rear end that was last night. I uploaded to different ones of the Sprint Race, and it just displayed only 4 finishers. So me and Gav and Jan had to go through the replays, and write down all the finishing times etc. Hopefully the results are correct, and its only the ranking tables that are wrong, as I haven't closed the race.

But I just wanted to make sure the results are right before closing the race.

Yea I was just about to say that Dan, thought it was just me not bgetting on the site though...

Good event, the weather issue bothered me ALOT....I was hoping for some rain. :D

Would have been a much more interesting race if that incident between CP and Niki didn't happen, Would have been very close after the pit stops me thinks. :)

One thing though, I've had my FXO number 21 skin made but when Psymonhill was watching the replay he noticed a car with number 21 on, is he just using this number on his skin or has there been a mis understanding?

Cheers, :smileypul

I am No 12, maybe he had his monitor upside down?.

edit, just checked there was no other 21 in that race, but I did notice you didnt have the proper ESL numberplate, naughty, naughty, strip him of his win.....

Dan,

Bawbag
15th March 2006, 15:28
Yea me no, I went into the event without a number and asked if the admins wanted one on my car, they said yes so I just drew 21 on the side so Njeh! They said it was ok but I should get one sorted for the next event which I have. :)

Thanks for confirming there was no other 21, Psy must have got confused with my number and thought it was 12. :tilt:

Bawbag - If you prepare a decent skin and give it the same name as you were wearing in the event (and upload to LFS-World), then when people view the replay they can see the updated skin.

As long as Kev (the writer) deletes the skin he has for you before watching the replays (for the 10th time, no doubt) he will get the update, and screenshots will show it as well.

As far as i know, they have to shut down the page if they have to change more complex structures of the page... Have in mind, that a large and very different community of gamers uses the page.

I agree, it could be better, but its not too worse

danowat
16th March 2006, 15:17
It sure could be worse, but for a flagship premium gaming league site, it should really be up and available more than it is, it is quite offen unavailable due to capacity problems or down for maintainace at least a couple of times a day.

Thats without going into how confusing the site can be to navigate.

Maybe I am expecting to much

There seems to be a short period each morning when ESL is offline, intended for doing backups I believe... if that's what you mean?

Looks like the failure of the forum this week made a good excuse for an upgrade, so hopefully more stable from now on.

danowat
17th March 2006, 07:08
It's not a big deal Gav, I just think that new drivers may be put off by firstly the apparent complexity in navigating the ESL site, and also the up/down nature of the site.

TBH, the ESL site is the first site I have encountered that needs to be taken offline daily for backups.

If you had looked at the news yesterday, you would know that upgrades are being undertaken this morning.

The daily downtime is btw noted in the terms of use, had you looked at them you would know about it. It is done so the calculation of all the leagues (including LFS UK) can be done much quicker and with less hinderance for the users during the rest of the day. It takes place early in the morning because that's the time the least amount of users are online during that time.

TBH, the ESL site is the first site I have encountered that needs to be taken offline daily for backups.

Do you know any other page with 400.000+ active users and a few thousands operatins a day which influence leagues of more than 10.000 participants? It's not like the database only consists of a simple forum where entries only have to be added but do not influence other entries. Take the big leagues like Counterstrike: In Germany several 10.000 users play the CS 1on1 ladder. If only one match takes place, this influences the whole ladder. Do this calculation during regular daytime activity and you would know what slowness on a page really is.

You guys are right (I just checked), unfortunately there was no news in the intl. sections, just the German one. I'll remind the responsible folks to consider posting such news internationally as well in future.

There was a new database server installed (serverpark consists of 21 webservers and 3 database servers now with a combined ram of 36gb for the three database servers :)).

Good race last night fellas, the sprint race was a bit of a non-event for me, qualified high, but turned round (forced or not, I am not sure) in T3 and spent the whole race playing catch up.

Main race was a bit better, was pushing so hard right up to the finish line, had some excellent racing with Bawbag and Pilot, couple of dodgy manuevers, but thats racing :thumb:, I really should have taken 4th in the main, all 3 of us, Bawbag, Pilot and I were battling hard on the last 2 laps, I should have got past Gav a number of times, and then Bawbag slipped in between us on the second to last corner, :thumb:

Hi All,

Just thought I would update you from the ESL Site, incase you was wondering.

Tuesday, 04/25/2006, 15:00h

We are still offline but I want to take the time to tell you what happened during the last 36 hours.

During the last days we have had some minor database errors which we could fix but which were nevertheless a first sign that something was coming up. That's why we activated an identical substitute computer for the main database server. It was supposed to be put into operation by a quick hard drive exchange last morning. But Murphy did not like this idea and sent all the twelve SCSII drives to the unknown realm of Nonrecognition. We haven't seen them since. In the late evening we had to give up and decided to restore a backup.

But the next drama was already awaiting us. The errors as mentioned above left tiny but fatal traces in the morning backup. We can't tell whether it was a broken SCSII controller, broken RAM or a broken motherboard. However we had to repair the data manually until late at night which was more than laborious. We managed to repair 99,99%, so we don't had to fall back to the sunday backup.

At 5 o'clock in the morning we were ready to go online again but then the new hard drive controller produced an error and said goodbye. We had to stop working in order to get some sleep. The current situation is that two of our technicians are on their way from Cologne to Coburg to the computer center, with a new controller and twelve new hard drives. Even if everything runs smoothly now, the page will not be online today. Tomorrow, at the latest, we will be back.

This is the worst downtime since the establishment of the ESL and due to a chain of incidents we could do nothing to prevent it. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. All Premium users will be credited with three days of Premium.

At this point I would like to thank all the NGZ "remote hands" at the computer centre.

//Jan-Philipp 'Thefly' Reining

I wonder why isn't there insim relay for spectator for races? Just poor organising or what?

Insim was running, but we had an emergency swap of servers. Then planned to swap back, and it never happened. CP's server was only a tempory server, but ended up the final perminate server.

Indeed all German ESL Races have that option, because all ESL Germany have there own dedicated servers, all based in Germany. We, as it stands in UK don;t have a dedicated server, so this is something we are working on ready for the EPS season, and have got one. We also have a dedicated service to show races LIVE streamed over the internet, like EPS Germany, so we are getting there.

Remember, LFS Germany has 3 yrs advance over us here in the UK. We are always going to play catchup, but at least we are playing catchup.

We will get there in the end. Its no over night fix, damn if it was, would make my life a hell of alot easier. As fair as I know, we are the only league to provide "free" racing, but actual prizes provided in the end for 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed drivers, even ESL Germany cannot do that :)

This is not a dig at ESL Germany, its just a point being made. Experience is the upper hand in this game, and ESL Germany ( Hoellsen and Vykos ) have way more experience than me in this field. We are learning here in the UK, and learning fast, so all I can say is watch this space.

As the story stands, I was approched from ESL as being a well known person in the UK for organising stuff, and they asked me 1.5 yrs ago to go EPS, and I was honest and said, UK is not ready for that yet. We need some test seasons to get going, to find out whats what, how it all works etc etc, and this is what we have done. Now we all know whats what, we have Admins on board that are, well just the best at working "for free I must add" and we are building on a reputation that will see us one of the best league's around for LFS and United Kingdom drivers.

It all takes time. Time that we do for nada, things we do that we enjoy, so, please bere with us on this, as we are learning all the time.

It will come good, I know, but time is with us on this, not against us

bla bla bla
So it was poor organising then...

I'd say that insim relay for spectator is so obvious & basic thing to have for league like that, so there can't really be excuses for not having it. Though, future looks bright then with LIVE streams & stuff. Good luck for next seaons! :)

danowat
23rd May 2006, 07:15
We did have it, infact I can clearly remember many races when people were watching on LFS spectator.

We had issues with the servers this season, which meant we had to chop and change, use temporary servers etc etc, no really poor organising, just bad luck.
