Regarding Hotels, are we all going to try and book the same one? as it might be nice as an after party for of thing, night drink in the hotel bar? Also seeing people off in the morning?

Just a thought

Dammit. Need money. NOW.

Student. Will do (almost) anything for money. Very good with PCs. Taking degree in Computer Networking. You owe it to your country.

tell you what Bob. If you took a train up to Haslemere from Portsmouth...I might give you a lift :D Mind you, my car's a Micra so it'd be a bit small :P

£7.50 return. Sounds a bit more manageable. It's ok about space, my legs are detachable anyway :D

I think Laws is also taking Dumass (aka Tux, aka Jon).

And 3J - I've already met you :P This time, try to be more, err, awake :P I'll promise not to hacksaw/mod anything if you do... Or wear the summery shirt. Well, I won't promise about the shirt, but the hacksawing bit I will...

Hi All. After speaking to Victor I have re-done a thread that contains in 1 post all the information you need. Please don't spame this thread, only if you are driving from somewhere and you could offer people a lift.

http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=589

Thank you all for your responces, and just to let you all know that, this will be the BIGGEST SOLE LFS MEETING to Date. Yes there has been the GC etc etc, but this event is solely on LFS drivers and nothing more.

Thanks again for making this possible

Regards

Assuming he confirms (he's financially restrained atm, like me) then he'll be travelling however I do. If someone can only give one of us a lift then we'll have to get the train, I can't not travel with him. Besides if it wasn't for me pesting him to come with me he'd be £££ better off.

well, we might have to put Tux in the boot to save room :P OK, Bob, we'll see what we can do. :)

tristancliffe
22nd August 2005, 14:39
I knew already too :D :D Sorry guys for not telling you, but I was sworn to secrecy...

It's gonna make the day go from Perfect to heavenly. But I'm not going to be in the inital crowd to talk to them.

To Scawen and Victor. I've only ever seen one or two photos of you both, and you both had long(ish) hair. May I sugeest you cut your hair, or employ a cunning disguise (perhaps just wearing a helmet ALL the time), so that you avoid attention.

/me makes LFS poster to have signed by them both.
I hope Eric makes it. A menage e tois (spelling?) of devs would be brilliant!!!!!!!!!

/me feints through overexcitment.

I'm trying to work out what people will sound like. For example, Fordie sounds like you'd expect from the way he looks (or the way I expected anyway), but Will's voice is much deeper than I thought it would be. When he phoned me for the first time, I didn't know who it was, even after he told me it was Ayrton Senna (that just confused me more!).

And I wonder how many people there, so used to text based communication with everyone, will be able to interact properly in person. I have a hunch that a fair few people will mill around the edges, too shy to come and chat. No offence to those people by the way - I was the same until I took up amateur dramatics (but thats another story!)

Back to work - they've got me trapped doing paper work today instead of workshoppy things cos too many people are on holiday in the office. I HATE PAPERWORK :'(

hehe sounds fun

u sounded like i thought u would tristan, although i thought u would look like more of a geeky guy.

what did u expect me to sound like, a smurf?

PS i wont be in the 'crowd' at first too, but u guys will know who i am, since i will most likely be walking round the track, trying to train scotty up rofl!

Maybe we should do a "this is my picture" post just to see what people look like before the "big meet".

I am 31, 6ft 4in, and weight 17 stone, so I am rather on the large side, I doubt you would miss me on the day ;)

19, about 6ft 2in and reasonably geeky. The only thing missing in that picture is my rather unimpressive pubic-fluff-style-goatee.

I'll shove a soundbyte online later, so you can hear my deep somerset accent! oooo-ar :D

Edit: Incidentally, that is the ONLY picture of me that's outside, in the sun, instead of me basking in the comforting dull glow of a monitor ;)

Me geeky?!?!? I try very hard to avoid the stereotypical geek look. So I'm pleased it worked.

If you had sounded like a Smurf, then I probably wouldn't have gone karting with you. But I expected a slightly 'younger' sounding voice. It's hard to explain really - it's a natural tendancy to imagine how someone sounds, and it's very rarely right.

And whilst your training Scotty up, I'll tag along for another walk of the track. Whilst I got okay at the braking, there is still A LOT for me to learn about the karts, the track, and kart driving in general. I hope that my lap times are about a second off yours Will tbh

More packing of parcels. Arrggghhhh. Just had to 'escape' to the workshop for a cigarette and a drink. It's doing my 'nut' in!

You don't look angry or angelic. So the only accurate bit of your name is The. And you can't go about being referred to as The now can you?!

Scroll down a little bit to Copterline crash, then click view clips, thats my voice, odd aint it!!!.

That was taken on a good day (namely on holiday), therefore I was soothed by the sound of the waves :)

If you took my picture now, you'd see me as quite enraged - damn users are messing up my beautiful servers again;
Me: "You want a new user AND you want some new software? Installing <unmentionable item of crap software> on a server, would be like installing a 21inch TFT in your bathroom - YOU JUST WOULDNT DO IT."

Incidentally, thats only one of many URLs ;) And you can call me "the" if you want ;) Like I've said before, as long as you can spell it I dont mind :D

Edit:
As often commented upon, I am rarely angelic looking - sorry to disappoint :D

Since there isn't going to be 3 in a team anymore, I'm a free agent so if anyone needs a driver I'm available.

If nobody does then I doubt I will be going. As much I want to meet all you guys its a lot of travling and expense to get drunk for one night. But I might change my mind nearer the time.

So if anyone needs to then please tell me soon so I can get a deposit down ASAP.

Thanxs

I want to be part of the team talk. I won't tell anyone else. Honest. If not, I'll just have to fit 'bugs' on you, and strategically in and around the kart center. You will not be able to escape muhahahahahaha

My vMax team talk (!) will go something like this "Huddle up, huddle up..... GO ON!!!!!!!!". I doubt it'll make a blind bit of difference. Tux will go to sleep or get bored, James will time out or forget which way to go, and I'll spin off trying to go faster than my limited talent will allow... hmmmm

Sorry for the recent spamming of posts by me... :P

Anyway, just checked the vMax team forum, and Keiran has suggested something which I have adapted into this:

We design, together, and get printed big A2 LFS posters, with the LFS logo, and various screenies/renders that show off the best of LFS. Then the Devs (it sounds rude calling them the Devs somehow now we are gonna meet them) can sign them for us :P

"Push on every lap!"
"If you see one of the devs, let them pass!"
"Aim for Tristan!"

I just want to clarify the costs then, now that we AREN'T doing the 2 hour race. Then I've got to find out if James IS coming. Then we can divide the deposit and I can put my cheque in the post (which I said I'd done in an earlier post, but actually forgot :S).

Am I right in thinking it's still £120 per team?

JAMES! ARE YOU DEFINITELY COMING, AND ARE YOU DEFINITELY DRIVING If not, no worries - I'd like to have more track time anyway :P

Well I would like your deposits as soon as you can send them really. I think the actual deadline from the Karting Centre is 1st October. Usually 3-4wks before the event.

But as this is such a large event, and with people already booked Hotels / Flights then I would want to secure the karting ASAP.

just a thought. because i dont have a cheque book and if i pay using paypal, you wont receive 100% of it due to paypal fees. would i be able to pay by debit card if i phone up the karting place?

ayrton senna 87
23rd August 2005, 19:43
well dumb arse,

the deposit is 50% of the whole fees, for example i could pay it in 1 go, but i dont wanna have to try to get 600 quid off drunken people later in the day, so me and GP decided it would be best if each driver payed their deposit individually, anyone who didnt pay, couldnt come, so its not actually possible to pay 30 quid for YOU, because it is actually all 1 lump... ask your mum/ dad to write a cheque m8, or give the cash to fordie, im sure he would be happy to write u a cheque.

well it doesn't seem like it. What contacts does he have? does it matter what magasine it is? if we got it in any magasine then it would be major coverage and promotion for lfs.

tristancliffe
23rd August 2005, 19:51
well, (and this is a personal opinion, and yes I have read it once or twice) I think it would attract the wrong kind of reader. Too much fake burberry, 'phat' exhausts and 'My IQ is lower than yours' neons.

I think a local TV station, or a more sensible magazine might be better. Like PF Format (perhaps a bit too geeky though :S)

Fordman

Hi All,

For simple questions regarding this event, please can you aim them at Senna and Tristancliffe. I will answer all PM's where possible.

I am about, just busy getting ESL Running, as it starts on Monday.

Thanks again to one and all.

snewham
23rd August 2005, 20:02
but the likleyhood of getting one of them to review the event if we don't have a contact in one of those magasines is very low and you are wrong, the average max power reader is not a chav.

dUmAsS

why would they want to review a bunch of lfs players racing and getting drunk? or is scawen bringing s3 ;)

Bob Smith
23rd August 2005, 20:14
Yeah avoid Max Power PLEASE.

Evo had a nice review of racing in GT4 when that came out, anybody have a contact for one of them? Great writing and I think they're just the sort of people that would really appreciate LFS. The only downside I can see is the lack of real tracks (from their perspective), but then surely it must get boring racing the same tracks in every game?

ayrton senna 87
23rd August 2005, 20:16
to be honest, its worth a shot

i will contact the guy from PC Zone, i think he was flamed unfairly about the demo, because it IS full of fools.... (i hope im ok to say that) i think it would be good for him to meet some of the 'propers' and its another person to race with aswell :D maybe he could write a review of the proper S2 and add a little about the meetup?

the game got a good score, and that was only the demo! :D

Fordman is dealing with the TV by the way.

LawVS
23rd August 2005, 20:17

ayrton senna 87
23rd August 2005, 21:08
ok, i have contacted the channel, explained what is going on.

i hope they might be intrested, because its a very unique way to review the game, and not a normal situation.

No, seriously guys. Of course we will have questions. And I expect Scawen and Victor will ask us questions too. But lets not overdo it. I say lets agree, at least, on no questions about either S3 or release dates. Asking things like that won't be fair on them, and they might decide not to come out with us again if we act like children (and this applies to the children coming too).

Whaddya say? Just put yourselves in their shoes and see what it would feel like to go karting, but get millions of (repeated) questions left, right and centre...

hi TAA

did you get the camera thing i sent u via email?

in praccy if u go down to T3, me and tristan will do some LFS style twin drifting!

the_angry_angel
24th August 2005, 21:47
Yeah, I managed to find it amongst the vast amount of spam I get :)

If you can do controlled drifting a pair of karts, I will be impressed :D As it takes about 20 seconds to kart around the track, I'm guessing its not all that big? Any ideas how long it takes to get from one corner to the other by walking? I dont want to spend 1.5 hours just filiming from one corner, incase I miss something!

When it comes down to a wireless camera, I do have an old digital camera which is "capable" of film. The downside is that it takes AA batteries (and eats them), I dont know exactly where it is atm, the quality is questionable, and I dont have a very large memory card for it. But, I dont mind it getting trashed, so I'll dig it out and we'll strap it to someone for a bit ;) Actually, maybe we should do that at the after party ;)

glen (the manager) said its ok for the TV to come, and anglia have done events there alot smaller than this one, so if they are free, they will be coming, almost deffo.

he says hes very excited to have international drivers here, and i told him you would all be clean :). he says since its such a big event, GET YOUR DEPOSITS IN!! :)

also, i will be demonstrating my kart on the track, i will only be using TKM as i would seize my FA, but im using the FA chassis to get more grip. Swifty will be my mech

he also says that we can book a 2 hour race, but i think its unwise since we are so far in to getting deposits done

he also says he is looking forward to meeting u all ;)

Gosh, thats a short tight track!

Just to be awkward, did you consider Datona at Milton Keynes. http://www.daytona.co.uk/track.php?venue=milton%20keynes

ayrton senna 87

yea p1lot, i have been there before a few times and i quite enjoyed it, the karts are twin engine pro karts with 360cc rather than the single engine 200cc pro karts in GP, so they are little faster.

the problem with that was, its the end of october, and it might rain, then it wouldnt be so enjoyable.

but hey, if this event is a sucess, maybe we can book the 2006 event for late july, early aug time , when the weather should be good.

Another bonus is that u can get more karts on the track, up to 25 i think they allow.

Well, if it wasn't enough that we are all going to have a fun weekend, get to drive "real" karts against each other, and meet Victor and Scawen, here is another little surprise for you.

I have been informed that there is going to be one of these there for all you to have a go one.

http://www.cyberseat.co.uk

Its a Motion Simulator, and this will be running LFS. This will be setup right near the karting in the Spectator Area, for those you are watching and for those while your team m8 races.

My Thanks go to Vykos and Victor, and also to CyberSeat for providing us the opputunity to have a go on these awesome peice of Hardware.

See you all in 5wks time.

Scotty will go wide and get mobbed by the field, I'd head off to the outside line (coward's way out :p) Tristan will pull out a lead and spin later in the lap.

Fordman will somehow get through the wreckage unscathed and send out smilies :p Scawen will be trying to do up his dashboard with kitchen appliances before programming the kart to go faster. victor will put go faster stripes on and make it go twice as fast.

I'm looking to get the Saturday Morning Train, which reminds me I need to book some tickets. Then i'll stay on saturday and get home on the Sunday(hopefully).

More local people might be doing something different tho, i'm not sure

So i went to every game shop in town, like Gamestation, Game etc went to every electronics store went to argos even tried Virgin Megastores, no luck. So feeling down I went into HMV to buy a PS2 game, went to the counter looked behind the man, ooo PSP box but they had loads in gamestation without actually having it. 'I'm guessing you havn't got any PSP's in?' 'Ye they're just there' wohooo.

strange place to find a psp but hey!

its a nice little console, world soccer tour is quite good, and tony hawks underground 2 ain't bad. Underworld looks crisp on it so I am pleased.

Just looking foward to this event now, which reminds me I need to book some train tickets.

Damn, I would've offered you my US 1.5 PSP - which is flashable to 2.0 firmware incidentally. I'm looking to get rid of it, but I just dont have the time to ebay it properly yet.

tristancliffe
26th September 2005, 09:59
Yeah I'll bring my PC. I have a breakout box to record s-Video and/or composite (9800 Pro All-In-Wonder).

I'm not 100% sure what software to use to record it. I can use the ATI TV software, but it's bascially rubbish and prone to crashing. I'm gonna try to find alternative recording software that will work with that hardware. I wonder if I can record directly into Vegas 6? hmmmmm

How come you want to get rid of your PSP ? I think they are nice little gadgets.I was hoping to find or use a known exploit to run linux natively, and use it as a more general system - but it seems unlikely that its gonna happen at the moment (there are some exceptions I know). Plus I'm also really pissed off with it aching my hands like crazy after playing for an hour or so.

Right just checked my Train tickets, If i get the earliest train, 9:15 I should arrive in Northampton at 13:37. So I was wondering what time you guys where going for something to eat (so i know if to take something or not).

Should cost me around 47 quid but on the website it says, available for most journeys, but it should be ok.

just gotta sort the other things out now then i should be ok, hopefully.

Anyway looking forward to this meeting hopefully it will go well.

Andy.

O ye, what is the name of the Train Station ? Or is it just Northampton Station ?

ayrton senna 87

You've better eyes than me then. I'm sure they'll look great in the flesh.

And to add, I've booked my room now and it's a twin, so if anybody decides to go last minute and doesn't mind sharing there's a bed available for £30.

hey .. mr.hacksaw.... any idea on software yet? i am probably going to be brining a laptop up and was wondering what u think will work best.

tristancliffe
6th October 2005, 15:24
To record it? Well the input is Composite Video (no sound afaik, but you'd have to ask Will), so I will use my Ati box-of-tricks to get Composite Line-In. From that it's a matter of choosing software. I know I could record it with ATi TV software, using a high quality format (lots of disk space :S). Then that will be edited (if I do it) using Sony Vegas 6.0.

If anyone can think of software that can record directly from Video-In on a 9800 Pro All-In-Wonder, with good ish quality but not huge file sizes then I'm all ears. If not, I'll take the easy option and use ATi TV.

Bob Smith
6th October 2005, 20:17
What's wrong with huge filesizes? You'll probably want to multipass encode it with an MPEG4 compatible codec once you're done with the editing anyway.

franky500
6th October 2005, 21:35
good job u got that then.. cos my laptop iis just bog standard.. will use it for other things instead.. lap times, positions.. stuff like that.. what do you reckon?

ayrton senna 87
6th October 2005, 21:37
they have live lap timings and race positions etc on computer screens posted around the place, but bring it just in case :)

Huge filesizes are a problem if your hard drives are getting full. Looks like I'll have to order a 300GB drive soon. Does anyone have an external/removable firewire/usb harddrive, just in case things get tight? Don't want to end up missing the finish for example...

Got a USB2.0 to IDE converter, would that help? Or is it not fast enough?
Can plug in a standard IDE hard-drive into USB with it.

Would it help if I bring my laptop along?, I also have access to a portable USB DVD burner and a 160GB "One Touch" USB harddrive if that will help.

Just PM me if you need them.

Dan.

tristancliffe
7th October 2005, 10:08
Well, I'm gonna order a 300GB HDD today to replace on of my 80GB drives, so I should have at least 220GB to play with in one lump (and more on the other drive).

I also have a Dual Layer DVD writer, so I can burn some stuff, but only about 8GB to DVD as and when I suppose. I think we'll be okay, I'll just have top calculate the correct bit rate for recording so I don't use more than 220GB in the race + beforehand + afterwards.
