If you're getting banned chances are you're not quite ready for a team. As you get better, you'll find that many teams are friendly, have their own website and forum, and race regularly.

Get to know them, and they may ask you to join. Or, if you think you are ready, ask, they can only say no.

But, my advice (for what it's worth), is avoid a team for at least a few months, and enjoy being free and single. Without the added pressure of being in a team you'll actually learn quicker in many ways, because you can go at your own pace. Plenty of fast people are around to watch and learn from, and many will give you setups if you ask (then press N and look at the SS next to peoples names, if one S turns yellow you've received a setup).

If you want skins and setups, there are numerous guides here for both. Alternatively the Inferno website has quick setups (which may not be suitable to start with, but it's good to get used to alien sets earlier), and Master Skinnerz have lots of skin stuff.

you might want to work on not getting banned, before you worry about a team... :)

You don't need to be in a team to get involved in some good racing, there are organised events for non-team drivers all the time. And it's not like FPS games where if you're not in a clan you're a "noob" - we don't put up with any of that bollocks here. If you really want to be in a team I think the usual route is just to hang out and make some friends in your favourite servers and you'll probably be invited to join a team if they think you're a good fit.
