View Full Version : Kyoto 500?

J@tko
11th January 2008, 19:39
Well, we've got a 24h of Le Mans (nearly!), we have plenty of F1 races, but where's the Indy 500?

I wondered how many people would be interested in an event like this. The car will be the FO8

The event would take place in the summer (I get bored in the summer holidays!), and it would be 270 laps. (513 miles - I can't get 263 laps)

Any interest?

I could include driver changes (although not realistic) to make it easier for people who don't want to do the whole hog.

Race length will be a bit under 3 hours.

I'll try and make it as realistic as possible, e.g with pace cars/yellows/pit stops e.t.c.

I was going to make it a BF1 event, but It'd have to pit 5 times during the race. Whereas the FO8 would have to pit just once. Makes the on-track events more important.

If you want it to be BF1 - then fine. I don't mind.

I'd love to be in this race. Maybe there should be an R2/R3 tire restriction to make pitstops occur a little more often? Because I don't see pitting once in a 500 mile race to be very sensible.

Seeing as how the last one stop Indy 500 was in the mid sixties, you might want to run the BF1, if you are looking for realism. I believe Jimmy Clark was the last winner to go with only one stop, that would have been 1965, first rear engine car to win the race. I would look it up, but I doubt seriously I am wrong, besides I have a headache, and I am being lazy today. BTW, depending on date/time I would be interested in doing the event. :D

Good idea. I almost never race on the oval, so I've no idea how much tyre wear there is. I worked out that, over the race distance, a FO8 will consume 216% of fuel, so youd probably need another stop aswell. I will almost certainly put R2/3s as a rule, Thanks :thumb:

The tyres rule will be akin to F1. Both R2 and R3 must be used in the race. By my short test - R2s will last around 25-30 laps, maybe a bit more if you're careful.

The event won't be for ages yet. I'm just getting basement planning out of the way.

Dates? I was thinking the last weekend in June or the first 2 in July, with qualifying the week preceeding.

If you want it earlier - organise it yourself - I'll be too busy.

Shoot I hoped it would be be the XRR or FXR because then there's the possibility to trade paint. I'm interested but I can only make a race of this magnitude on certain days so I'll wait to see the time until I decided

But whether it's a Daytona 500 or a Indy 500 really doesn't matter to me so I'm interested.

OK.

There'll be a Kyoto 250 in march for the <insert GTR car(s) here>, and the Kyoto 500 in June/July for FO8.

Discuss GTR's below.

How much of a difference is there and could it be solved by restricion?

Yes the Daytona 500 is one of the crown jewel of NASCAR (Something Villeneuve is trying to win this year :D)

Should we include all the GTRs (with XRR and FZR restrictions of course) for the Kyoto 250?

I suggest that the style of qualifying would follow the IndyCar/NASCAR style of qualifying. All the drivers will join in the pits. But only one car comes out to run 2-4 laps. When that car is finished with its qualifying run the driver will immediately come into the pits or Shift + P. Once that car is in, the admin will allow (or motion) for the second car to take the track and so on until all the participants have gone.

Went almost perfect, but of course some idiot decided to go out when he wasnt supposed to, and ran about 5 laps before he was banned.

racer hero

I think qualify should be normal, or at least I think the qualify should be normal, so that we don't have to go to the server setup and the admin tells us when to join. I really don't like this system :D mainly that is because I see no one on the grid when the race is started (It's some problem with my internet, another pc doesn't help...).

J@tko
15th January 2008, 16:13
For qualifying, I'm not too sure what to do. I think that the best idea would be to have 2 or 3 cars on at a time, to minimise the time taken.

For the race, there will be 8 laps (for the 250 - 7 for the 500) under a semi-paced (it'll be me, in an FXR w/loads of fuel + downforce) safety car. Then, on the last lap of the safety car, it'll slow down after Sector 1 to pit-lane speed. After everyone has bunched up in twos (3s for 500), the safety car will pull away and everyone else will be on pit lane speed limiters. Race control will throw the green flag and then you go off the limiter and start racing.

In the event of a yellow mid-race, the rules will be the same as any normal NASCAR Race.

R4 tyres are prohibited for both races.

I am pondering whether to force people to have at least 1 stint on the R2 tyres.

Thoughts on the above?

P.S Seeing as we have quite alot of interest, I'll hopfully get up a seperate sub-forum soon.

EDIT: For (for me!) 14.5 splits and 40.8 laps:
FXR: no restriction
FZR: 8%
XRR: 8%

at the moment we are running several things under the LFSCAR name, even a GP79 mod league for rFactor. the original lfscar league was also called: LFSCAR 360degree.tk CUP SERIES. as nascar also runs different leagues with different sponsors i do not have a problem with that though

an indy type of league would be called something like: "LFSINDY" hosted on LFSCAR.com or something like that.

TFalke55
23rd January 2008, 15:29
I'd like to take part here are some ideas:
an co-operation event with LFSCAR??? like it is in the Indy Racing League you can sent your drivers who then could compete again "single day event racers" (just a thought)
I think the grid limit should be 30 (to have an amount of drivers, wich can be devided by 3 :D ), because 34 is not possible. (33+SC, in the IRL Indy500)... another point would be, that the Pace Car should be used for the information/warm-up laps, as a kind of warm-up or training for the Caution Periods, and like in Indy it could be a three file rolling (Indy-)start (for the single seaters).

well back to my co-op idea: i thought this could be usefull, as a field of noobs, wouldn't make sense. (would become a demolition derby) They should have some experience with oval racing. And especially experience with FO8 in the Single Seater Event.

Someone thought of a live-broadcast like the MoE did? You can adress yourself to game-tv.com and ask for a live broadcast, or at least for a broadcast.

J@tko

Just had a little spin with XRG and LFS Tune.

If we have 8 litre V8, and 1 power, 1.6 torque and default whatever the other one is, then it's a pretty scary ride :)

The tyres will be an issue. Let's see if anyone comes up with a slickmod.

On the subject of the FO8, if there's a tune out there for it in time for the race, I'll produce one that's really close to indy cars.

On the subject of teaming up with LFSCAR, it's a great idea. @Fischfix - Keep me up to date with progress

On the subject of broadcasting - great idea. Yes please - but someone else will have to sort that out please - I've no idea :D

We're only using mods cos the XRT will be quite slow if we keep it normal. We want it to be as realistic as possible. Unless someone can get slicks onto the XRT we won't be using it anyway. And ATM, we're using normal FO8 anyway.

I thought the begineers cup was an entry way into the world of LFS and LFS racing..... not LFS tuning....

From someone who has run a league before, try and keep it simple.... don't mess with whats there already with tune etc etc people are interested in your cup becuase of the simple format, stick to it and stop messing ideas around, you'll only end up with annoying your entrants and thus having a smaller field, who only then drive tuned cars which means when they play normal LFS, they will still be beginners.... right? :really:

that a mod should be used for these races... hmm... I don't know how to judge on it... but, well... hmm... in the first moment i dislike it...

but! since when, mods which change the game itself are able to be played online???

K guys - thanks for the input. (BTW Dru - this isn't a round of the LFSBC!)

We'll keep the FO8 as it is for the 500 then.

What do people want for the 250 (if it happens)?
GTR's
Modded XRT
anything else?

I'll prod Victor again for a sub-forum.

If i understand you right, you already tried to get one.
Well, it may be an idea to create some head organisation. e.g. "The LFS beginners Cup by League XYZ Promotion" and "The Kyoto 500 Indy style by League XYT Promotion (and LFSCAR)"

As the beginners cup, and these two single day events are not that huge like the Masters Of Endurance, it would increase your chances... in this case you could make a special thread to form the organisation (I mean, deciding who the VideoBroadcaster is, and so on)

Nice idea. The LFS BC is by New Dimension Racing Events.

We could have the Kyoto 500 by PRC (whoever they are!)

Thinking about it, I'll ask if we can put this in the LFSCAR forums.

sry that my posting devellopes in chatting :D but my thoughts flashing uncontrolablely through my mind :D

an issue you'd have to face, when using tuned cars in multiplayer is "cheating" I don't know if this LFStune is that smart to avoid a laptime to be sent to LFSWorld. I doubt it at this point. We'd see many new world records, or, more brutal, many cheaters.

back to the broadcasting: When the dates are fixed, I'd sent the application to game-tv.com ,as their hompage is in german. That would be my offer to you.

The cheating aspect is fixed as only one 'setup' will be allowed. The pbs will be sent to LFSW, but people should (:)) delete them afterwards. Anyway, WRs are only in hotlapping.

Help! :D:D:D And lots of it!!!!!

Basically, I need general help in organisation e.t.c.

Would you be able to offer to be my co-organiser? Basically answering questions, setting up stuff and organising the (coming) sub-forum. It may also be linking with the LFSCAR series. We'll see.

No help ATM, but I will do soon.

Anything other than the road XR's (mainly going for the XRT) is just pointless. The GTR's are no where near as fun because like many have said its flat out. A FZ5 is probably too deadly for a 30 car field (I wouldn't mind it using it though):). The XRT mph range at kyoto is from 130 to 150mph, and the tires (supers) can last about 100 laps (when running wr times). The XRT is probably the most competitive (besides the XRG but thats too many laps for a big one not too happen in them :D). So I'm with the others that like the XRT.

I honestly don't understand why you would want to modify the XRT. To me it IS the most realistic as far as feel. But it sounds as if you want to modify the XRT into an XRR (which we all know is boring). I'm lost at what your trying to do J@tko mainly because your trying to fix something thats not broken.

Anyways, I honestly don't agree with the "modding" your trying to do (I won't attempt to make it if you go this route). But if its not a XRG/T or FZ5 that is going to be raced then I also am not going to attempt to run in this.

Even though I would participate if you restricted the FZ5 to the XRT (don't know why you would want to), don't do it because they handle completely different.

Oh and btw, is it 250 miles or laps? Because 250 miles is only 130-135 laps.:scratchch

Well PRC is going to sponsor... www.pacracingteam.co.nr (http://www.pacracingteam.co.nr) if you need to look at a banner or something and we WILL need SC skins so if you could just put Kyoto 500 on the car that would be great. Dont know what car though me and J@tko are going to talk about it.

No-ones produced an GTR mod yet.
Tyres will burn really quickly. If I went for ultimate realism, then I would tweak the GTRs - massive V8s e.t.c. But that's not realistically possible ATM.

Kyoto... since I've copied it from Wikipedia :D

hopefully Wikipedia is this time right!

BTW: I attatched a layout wich was used for the Kyoto 300 a few years ago... It was a GTR-Class event

And I have another idea: Teamspeak or another client for the racecontrol to give the information about cautions directly to the driver as audio warning, and the optical warning by using these "big" caution message (I mean the way like normaly the Blue and Yellow flag appeaer on screen.
Also, that would be a suggestion to each driver, to get someone you trust, to watch LFSRemote, sothat you know when and where a car appears ;)

OK. It needs to be just like any other userbar (e.g CTRA). I'd like a nice background (something like a car on an oval or something like that).

Moving across to the right, the Kyoto 250/500 logo (see up) (and smaller!), then whatever a person has to do with it. I could have Organiser, you sponser and the others fans/competitors e.t.c

That's a basic idea. Go from there.
