Why, no matter what server I'm in or what the ping rate is, it always stutters evey 4-5 seconds and shows LAG on all the players??
I don't have any problems with lag on any other games..
specs
Win XP, mobile 2500 (oc to 2.2 ghz), 1 gig ram, FX5600 video, 6Meg/512k DSL...
Single player works flawlessly

Despite ping being good, it could be a case of packet loss. Are you joining local servers to you? Bear in mind that there arent many servers across that side of the world sometimes...

hmm...
When I played the older version, I never had any problems and I never paid any attention to where the server was located..

Try increasing minimum sleep...

Where is that located? please :D
I just tried about 10 different servers and all of them are acting the same.. 3-4 second lag every 4-5 seconds... Its really aggrevating.

It is in your in-game options, the MISC section I think. If not, look around. Fiddle with that setting a bit by changing the value little by little each time and then testing online.

Nope.... no change...
Tried many different settings in different servers.. :(
Any other thoughts??

Check your computer for viruses, adware, spyware, ect. Defrag your harddrive. I've been playing multiplayer LFS for years on a 56k with very minimal lag and I'm in the US, usually having to play on servers across the ocean. Seems more like a problem with your computer than with the game settings.

what background processes do you have running when playing LFS? (Cntrl-Alt-Delete will tell you) . Do you use any temp monitoring software or run software firewall? have you updated anything else when you noticed this? I have updated DSL modem drivers once and had similar probs with some antivirus checkers.
does this still occur if you unplug all your usb devices ?
just some thoughts.

I'm betting it's a driver or service running in the background as well. It seems like every time someone has a problem with the game pausing every few seconds it's because of a bad driver or a utility they didn't realize was running.

or running a overclocked cpu and it's a bit hot? (LFS is very CPU demanding...)

He said single player works flawlessly. Maybe it has to do with his ISP/connect/router settings/something of that sort.
What kinda internet do you have?

Single player works flawlesslyI've recently heard about a bug with similar symptoms. In that user's case, it was because the windows timer was running faster than real time.
Can you try, in single player, checking the real elapsed time (with a stop watch or a clock with seconds) against the elapsed time in game. Because if that's out by a few seconds per minute, that would cause the frequent stutters and lag symptom when you are online, as your computer can't keep in time with the host.
I have no idea why the timer would run at the wrong speed. It's a simple Windows function called timeGetTime, which tells LFS the elapsed time in milliseconds. If it gives the wrong results, there's no way for LFS to know how much time has actually elapsed.

Any solution to that? I believe I have these symptoms too... One second was 3/4 of a second actually, resulting in stutters every 3 seconds... :(

This text still holds :

LFS needs a reliable clock, and if your operating system (edit : or hardware) isn't providing it, then it's really hard to know what to do about it.
edit : i seem to remember something about some background processes / media things running in the background, messing up the clock. It's not a LFS bug, so i can't explain it or help, sorry.

I have had a similar (if not the same) problem on many occasions (I frequently change pc parts and therefore need to re-install windows). Usually the problem would just go away after a few weeks, and I could never actually put the finger on the solution......
Then, I did find a solution, that has worked 2 times (on 2 seperate occasions).

Solution:
I had this problem for a week or so. Bugged the hell out of me. Found a tip from someone on here to go to device manager, and update the driver for the 'computer' bit. right click on acpi etc etc, choose update driver, select driver from list, and choose advanced configuration and power interface (acpi) pc. I have no understanding of why this works, (considering both are the same name with a different way of saying it) but it did the trick for me.
Hopefully this will work....
