This is a thread to discuss Round 1 - BL1/XFG&XRG
Post in here the latimes you're getting, some replays, skins, hints, tips and setups. Come on - it's a friendly League. I'll post my 'B' setup - not quite as good as the one I'm going to use - But I wouldn't tell you that now would I? :)

I'm getting 1.38s lol, my PB is a 1.37:thumb::D
I just remember to go slow in, fast out, and reduce the amount of tyre scrubbing.
This (http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=13380&highlight=guide+xfg+blackwood) guide might help you to improve your laptimes with the XFG @ Blackwood.

Thats fine. Remember, when you're actually in LFS, you can change the background colour of the car anyway.

Not a bad setup there Jack...consistent :35's in the XFG for me.
But that was with auto-clutch, brake help & using the flappy paddle gear things on the wheel...:thumbsdow
My times are all over the place with manual clutch, no brake help & the H-pattern shifter! I still need a little practice.
I also just tried the XRG in full manual and I was doing high :38's! I think I'll be sticking with the XFG for round 1! :)

35s? I'd better get some practicing in! I can get 35s on my setup, just!
Since I've been racing on CTRA, I've been using auto-gears much less. I'll probably use manual for the series.

I couldn't get consistent 35's either. Your setup is way too understeering, but it suits some people. Personally I prefer a little more sliding although it's a fwd car... Irony eh?

The setup at the top is my 'b' setup - I use a better on when racing competitively .
The other one does slide a bit more, but if it slides too much - I slow down as I use a keyboard and I'ts harder to control slides.

Ah yes - It's all coming flooding back :)
I was [begin cocky post] at one point the 2nd fastest demo/keyboard racer around BL1 in XFG, with a PB of 1.34.24. A few laps into it a few minutes ago and I was posting low 1.35s. I think Pole Postion will be mid to high 1.34 IMO.[/cocky post!].
Anyway, I'm not a real fan of the Patch Y XFG. [begins JC esque car review] I think the old one felt like it was Italian - the steering was sharp, the engine was revvy and nippy, the handling was great and easy to drive - it felt like it was driving with a smile on its face. However, the new one feels like it's American - the handling is sloppier, the engine isn't as good, and the brakes are worse. All my opinion though.

I always slightly disliked those who could get into the 34s in the XFG. I rarely make it into the 36s. I went, "How the heck do they get that fast in this car ?"

A few tips: Get a good setup (The one at the top of the thread is a good starting point). You need to strike a balance between braking as late as possible and turning in as early as possible - that thing will understeer. Some corners are easier than others. I only get the last corner 'perfect' maybe 20% of the time.

I was going to answer that for him, but i realised it may reveal my horrible plan in which i watch you play LFS all day long in a helicopter infront your (house?) while playing it on my new desktop putting you off greatly.
I meen err yes, I still use keyboard for competitive racing but i have my DFP I'm just uber slow with it >:| had it since christmas

Haven't you watched Fift Gear? According to Jason Potato the mistake people do is to turn in too early. Thou he was driving a Lambo while saying that..

Well, it's what I say to myself when approaching a corner in the XFG - Brake as late as possible, turn in as early as possible. It's easier with a wheel.

Slow in - Fast out.
If you turn in too late you will understeer for England and most definately be on the grass :D

Yeah Plato is good. I like him as a presenter too. He came close to winning the Championship again last season (07)...
The racing can be so messy in the BTCC though. They're pretty lenient with the rules.
In a way, the WTCC is slightly more professional. Similar attributes in the BSBK & WSBK in that sense too.

Before I got rid of SPEED Channel when getting rid of the Basic Digital Cable service tier so I could get a cell phone (Which sucks, people can contact me now !) I loved watching BTCC and WTCC on there.
Then, I found BitTorrents when at school with no SPEED Channel in the dorms !
Then, the university got letters from the RIAA for people illegally downloading music. Which they then decided to banish all illegal downloads.
Now I have to use YouTube !
But that BTCC stuff always had me on the edge of my seat. WTCC did too, but not as much. I still say there's nothing wrong with (or better than) three cars banging doors on the last lap for the win.
Anyway, back on topic !

I may be a lone voice here, but I think it's worth airing this and seeing what the response is...
I think the Safety Car idea is a mistake. I know the organisers won't agree with this, but I think that when it comes to us beginners, it'll end up more like a sheep dog trying in vain to herd his unruly sheep around, rather than the polished routine we see in F1 or other professional racing.
Further, I cannot see any circumstance that would need a safety car, as the point of the safety car is to minimise danger to those involved in an incident that will take more than 1 lap to recover from. There is no danger in a virtual race, and no marshals working to recover vehicles.
As long as everyone knows the rules concerning pitting to fix damage, we should get by without safety cars.
Bring it on :schwitz:
J@tko
7th January 2008, 11:38
I do agree partly with your opinion. But the thing is, the races will be sort of 'broadcasted' and so we need it to be as realistic as possible. We (me and Dekojester) realise that you don't want to be sat behind a safety car for lap after lap, and so it'll only be brought out if really necessary. Also, we need the safety car for a rolling start at a couple (TBA) of races.
Quite alot of Leagues use a safety car and so it would be good practice if/when you enter more Leagues.
The idea of the series is for you to gain some League experience and to have fun - we'll try and interfer with the racing as little as realistically possible.

Fair play :). It wasn't a critisism, just some food for thought. There's every chance I'm underestimating the drivers here and it will all go swimmingly. I didn't want you to overcomplicate things for yourselves unnecessarily, thats all.

I will be staging three officially timed free practice sessions on this race weekend.
Saturday, 2 Feb 2008:
FP1 will be 90 minutes from 1900 GMT - 2030 GMT.
FP2 will be 90 minutes from 2000 EST - 2130 EST.
Sunday, 3 Feb 2008:
FP3 will be 60 minutes from 1630 GMT-1730 GMT.
All sessions will be run as a qualification mode. In the event that something disrupts qualifications on Sunday that will stop them being held, the race start order will be determined by best lap time from among the three sessions.
All series rules will be enforced at these.
Before and after these mentioned times, the combo will be set to BL1 with the XRG and XFG, with 15 minute qual and race laps will be set at the number of laps as per the final calendar.

I would reccomend being at the Free Practice sessions as much as possible. It will give you a grand opportunity to get used to the LFSBC rules enforcement method, and get used to the drivers in the series and share info and such.
Note: The FPs are not required to be attended, but I'm sure it will greaten your skills for the circuit.
