Also, what happens to LFS world stats when you can ignore damage and abuse car to no limit at all, hopping over kerbs etc, would not be fair against those that keep damage on.

I have to say I am against this. All the damage related stuff changed the way people drive for the better. They drive less like its PGR or GT4 and drive like they are in a car.

But then I would like the car reset option fully removed anyway :)

i tried to offer a solution to the clutch issues the drift people are having, which was instead of an overall car reset, just a pit stop refresh without the pit stop.

part of the reason i play games on the internet is so i dont have to load the trailer, strap down the car, drive wherever, unload, check, reload, go home. some people use this as a video game because they dont want all the hassles of real life bullshit, they just want to e-drive.

If you can't drift without burning your clutch, there's only one thing wrong. Your crap! Go practice drifting without any silly gear changes or stuff like that, drive the car as you would while racing but just slide it. I can pop my tires before i burn my clutch, you must be doing it wrong.

im going to ask though that nobody tell me how to drive, i know its obviously very difficult for some of you users of teh intarwebzz to not have to tell everyone how better you are, but spare it.

As for whether the clutch is realistic we really need to get some value or measurements, or else we are all just talking empty.

Clutch heat at the moment is uber-realistic...that's why drifters IRL don't do 20 laps of a racing circuit...
If you are burning the clutch, check to make sure that your foot is fully off the clutch pedal (no, seriously, that happened me after i got my g25 lol). Making wheel-spin does not cause clutch slip in a road car...

I've drifted several laps of blackwood without burning the clutch, and I am not talking about feints either - power-on drifting here... Its not hard at all, the thing I could semi-agree with is the tires heating up quickly - so put max pressure and use the highest temperature compound you can. I haven't had any problems with the clutch, only the tires - but in real life drifting EATS tires faster then you can say whoops... If you notice cars take breaks during drifting sessions, this allows the tires to cool back down...

Also some tips with the clutch- since a lot of people seems to need some tips:

1) Make sure your foot is released off the clutch when driving. DON'T leave your foot resting on or near the clutch.

2) After disengaging the clutch quickly do NOT slam your foot on the gas - the clutch hasn't had a chance to stop slipping. This is the main problem I would bet. So let the clutch grip then apply more throttle. There is a distinct sound when your clutch is slipping because the engine RPM's are moving faster then your tire RPMs. Do NOT confuse this with your wheels spinning, cause it may be your clutch slipping!

3) After shifting up or down (even using auto clutch) be sure the clutch is engaged before applying the throttle...

4) And during a clutch kick to boost your engine RPM's you need to allow the clutch to grip again - this will eat your clutch if you do it wrong. However properly done its fine - I use it when needed. So do the normal clutch kick, with your foot on the throttle, then *just* after releasing the clutch your wheels will start spinning, and essentially sliding. At this point release the throttle a bit, let the clutch grip and apply the throttle again. That may seem to make the clutch kick pointless but then your mis understanding the point of the clutch-kick as the above description still gets the car sliding... A lot of people have the tendency to leave their foot on the gas and never let the clutch properly grip therefor burning it up quickly!

Tips two, three and four are all the same thing in different cases!



Lastly - all of that is coming from a racer, who does enjoy drifting from time to time just to learn the balance of the car. I am trying to help you guys out because the clutch is perfectly fine - you need to use it correctly though. And in real life beating on your car costs money. Drifting is very harmful to engines and transmissions, including the clutch when done improperly.

Mike the thing is that you drift your drift car IRL and you probably clutch kick and such but your clutch is made to stand that kind of things. In LFS the clutch is for racing and therefore you should just try not to clutch kick and it should be fine. I dont burn my clutch in LFS.

This feature is the same as car reset but you can use it while moving? Did I understand this right?

I have a racing clutch in my car and when I clutch kick with keeping the throttle floored it does not slip. In fact on one oval track I have to clutch kick at least 5 times a lap in 3rd gear at roughly 75mph as my car bearly has enough power to keep drifting. I will do 3 laps about 20 seconds each at a time so thats at least 15 clutch kicks in 1 min with no slipping. Unfortunately I have not tried the patch y properly yet as I dont have access to my wheel.:( But if someone wants to try it out, I think what I said above would be a good test.:shrug:
