From the Desk of the Race Director on this 31st of December 2007

I have the luxury of doing this early because, well, I can.

I will be posting in the round information/entry thread certain administrative items that should be published before the Event. They will at least have this information: Whether a Safety Car will be in use, how major incidents will be handled, parc ferme location, and more.

For the 1st Round of the Inagural LFS Beginner's Cup:

Safety Car will NOT be present.

In the event of a major accident (track blocked, car unable to be quickly moved from a racing line or within 1.5 car widths of it or an incident that involves at least 60% of the field), I will stop the race. I will display a Race Control Message saying "RACE STOPPED" in Red Letters. I will outline full red flag procedures during the middle of January

Upon finishing the race, all drivers are reqired to proceed at a moderate speed and treat the course as under yellow flag and return to the pitlane, and park in rows of 3 at the head of pitlane, beginning at the space between the first garages in pitlane, and parking as close to the building as possible. Please leave a small gap between cars. Please do not drive into a pit stall after the race. Please do not spectate or leave the server until cleared by the admin. The admin may request setups to be sent for inspection.

If you have an incident and your car is too damaged to be driven, please move it to a safe location off to the side of the course. I will mark a map of the course with ideal safe locations that it would be preferred for you to navigate to. DO NOT SPECTATE UNLESS TOLD TO DO SO ! I wish to increase realism for any broadcasting and have broken cars off to the side of the course. I will direct sometimes to spectate, if your car would have been craned or pushed into a space behind the wall.

But there's a problem with that ^ and this -

Just a quick addition, as many people (including me :)) forget - NO OVERTAKING UNDER YELLOWS.

So, what happens if a damaged car is stationary and has retired from the race but it's parked off the track...The yellow flags are still displayed, but it's a place where passing could occur.
Wouldn't it be better to just spectate that broken car (which is no longer competing) so no yellow flags are given to the others in the race? It would only interfere with the racing. And if keeping the cars that are no longer in the race near the track is purely to aid realism in a broadcast, then surely the actual racing is more important to the broadcast?

You've got a point there...

Maybe the damaged cars could stay on for a lap or two and the quickly spectate when nobody is watching.:D

I have parked in some places on course (Blackwood only so far and with a functioning car and with a broken one) and followed other cars and seen no yellow flag. These are places where there are walls blocking from the action.

I'll check this out in the next couple weeks and I may change it.

Thank you for the comments.

From the Desk of the Race Director on this 2nd of January 2008

In the 31st December Memo, it was stated that:

Safety Car will NOT be present.

In the event of a major accident (track blocked, car unable to be quickly moved from a racing line or within 1.5 car widths of it or an incident that involves at least 60% of the field), I will stop the race. I will display a Race Control Message saying "RACE STOPPED" in Red Letters. I will outline full red flag procedures during the middle of January.

I have decided that the Safety Car will be present for this round.

I recall the curbs in the chicane and the final turn were flippers, but have read (haven't tried it) that the new versions are less of a flip hazard.

I expect that the SC will not be deployed, but because an SC can be efficently deployed and recalled (I try to keep SCs to 2-3 laps long) at Blackwood, I am using it.

The SC will not be deployed past lap 7 of 10. After lap 7, the Race Director may stop the race. If the SC is called before the 6th lap is completed, every effort will be made to have the race restart before the final lap.

The SC will chase the field on lap 1. At the end of L1, it will park at the end of pitlane, along the gate before the end of the speed limit zone. It will park here during qualifying for reference. It will take a track test during the warmup prior to qualifications.

If the SC is deployed, it will wait at the exit of the chicane to pick up the field.

I will publish Safety Car procedures next week.

I have confirmed that it is still possible to be flipped in the chicane on the back straight.

The Safety Car will still be used for this race.

It will park on standby at the previously mentioned location.

It will wait to pick up the field upon deployment at the exit of turn 1.

It will turn off its indicators at the end of the 2nd Sector and begin to pull away at this point.

Official timed free practice sessions

There will be two Timed Free Practice sessions held on Saturday, 2 Febuary 2008 at Blackwood Grand Prix Circuit with the XFG and XRG.

Qualifying Mode will be used.

FP1 will be held from 18:30 until 20:30 GMT.
FP2 will be held from 20:00 until 22:00 Eastern Standard (25:00-27:00 GMT)

You are not required to be at them, but the results will be posted to the LFS Beginner's Cup website.

These two times are to hopefully give a decent shot at accomadating all competitors in the LFSBC at one time or another.

All series rules will be enforced, and during the session, anyone not in the LFS Beginner's Cup will be banned for 2 days.

Very few people will visit this forum and know the password
These people are usually trustworthy people - i.e the people we meet on the forum
The majority of them have the common sense not to interfere
If not - we kick them.
And we'd get loads of people invading the server if it wasn't passworded, and some people did not get my PM with the password on, and I don't want to have to send 42 people PMs with the password on.
