For me the choices were pretty obvious (LFS mostly, except sound and most moddable). I don't know what the hell "Squadra Corse Alfa Romeo" and "Cross Racing Championship" are doing in sim-racing awards... but whatever. :)

GTR was in last year's awards. Which is pretty stupid because it was widely released this year...

IMPORTANT: "Flat Tire category" is for the lousiest game of the year 2005. BHMS Flat Tire Award for 2005 will be the category for the most disappointing game of 2005. This is simply a humorous approach to add a little levity to our Awards section. So don't vote for the best flat tire modeling. ;)

warning
flat tyre award is a bad "award"! its supposed to go to the worst game, so make sure you are clicking correct game in that award :)

What is "Flat tire award"...is it good or bad?
edit. ok :D

Tweaker
10th December 2005, 22:03
That's dumb if it were a bad award... this award is pretty much just ASKING for LFS to be chosen, because if you didn't know it was bad, then people would click it because LFS has an excellent flat tire code :)

DON'T PICK FLAT TIRE AWARD FOR LFS! :D Bad bad.

But anyways.... I've always thought the results were decided by the webmaster of BHM, because some pretty bogus results came out in 2004, they will surely happen again, you'll see.

I won't vote... I just don't think it's fair since I haven't really played the other games (besides a quick dabble with NASCAR SimRacing).

Why are they not using the alpha? I know its not the final S2, but it IS a lot better then s1. :Looking_a

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that... LFS' profile has barely been updated on their download charts, it really should be fixed.... especially that part about S1.

Yeah, was wondering what flat tire was about.. There was no caption or explanation, so I concluded it was for the best flat-tire modeling.. I guessed the people at BHM have a flat tire fetish? :p

I just saw a new trailer of Crashday... looks pretty fun though, altough the trailer had too much bling bling and guns. But it's in the wrong awards category. :)

ps. Added a note in the first post about the flat tire category... just in case that someone won't read the second reply in this thread. :)

yes its certainly not a sim ... but its stunts so it deserves any award it can get :)

They still use LFS's original 'spec':

Live for Speed is developed by a handful of people, who are determined to succeed in the racing market, dominated by big publishers. Live for Speed Development Team plan to release their products without a publisher. What makes LFS more of a "user friendly" product, is constant support in the form of frequent demo patches and regular updates to their website. And exactly how do they plan to release it? Instead of releasing it as a complete game, it will be available in 4 downloadable stages. Each segment will comprise 25% of the total price of final release. Each of the next three 25% releases will contain updates (cars, tracks, physics, new features) and will come out at intervals of 2 or 3 months.

They didn't research it properly IMO - why is LFS not nominated for Most Promising - it is probably by far the most promising sim out there. Why is GTR not nominated for any of the categories (especially the Flat Tyre award)...? Why is LFS still shown as S1...

More than a year old, think they only use new sims to stop GPL winning everything ;)

The most promising catagory is for future sims, LFS has been released and no matter what you tell people that it is not finished it will still be taken as a finished product seeing as you can go and buy it :)

My votes:
Best sim - LFS
Physics - LFS
Graphics - GT Legends
Sound - GT Legends
Multiplayer - LFS
Editable - rFactor
Suprise - GT Legends (I didn't know it was to exist before I saw the newspost on RSC saying the demo was released)
Promising - NK Pro
Mod - F3 Mod for rFactor
Flat tire - LFS (I have lots of fun with LFS and voted it best sim too because it's what I decided to play, so there must be a good reason to play it, but it disappoints me because I think it could already be much better than it is now)

Me too. It's a flat tire with the original content - until there are some good mods.

Btw I gave best mod for "Miscellaneous mods for RBR". A bit stupid choice but what you gonna do when there's no complete mods for RBR... yet. :)

Since I don't have LFS licence I can't post here so Richard is posting instead of me.

WTF are you guys so pissed off about. Pointing out mistakes is one thing but being a dick about it is another.
I appriciate it and we'll fix it asap. As for GTR. Well it was released last year. Not my fault you live in a 3rd world :) <<-- see the smiling face (it was a joke). GTR was nominated last year so why have it this year as well? As for most promising. Well we had LFS for most promising previous year. We can't run it for a decade. Maybe if the dev team would be bigger... nah, won't go there :). As for flat tire. Come on! Why would we give an award for flat tire simulation. Whats next... Best Curb Modeling Award? All is explained in the intro text. Not my fault you don't read it.

I just looked at the FT votes and LFS is leading by abotu 2 laps... in Spa :) Seriously, LFS is no way near the turdmobil award so chill and do a few more laps online.

And if you want us to be prompt about your suggestions and ideas, don't post here. Email us or post in our forum.

Have fun racing and happy holidays.

"BHMS would also like to announce the addition of a new category for the 2005 Awards. We would like to introduce the BHMS 2005 Flat-Tire Award and it will be given to the game title that has had a blowout and hit the wall in 2005.

Kid = you get the Best Modeled Turd award. haha

As for wierd games being in the list. We'll since SimRacing is almost dead, we add everything that even smells remotely like a sim.

We are coming to a point when we'll start supporting Need for Speed. bahaha

I agree with Jure in that if the LFS community is stupid enough to think there is an award for flat tire modeling then we probably do deserve it :D.

As for his comment on sim racing being dead, I disagree, I think that profesional sim making is dead, seeing as all the ISI sims are crap. NK Pro and LFS are the future as well as GPL, maybe iRacing could salvage their product but I doubt people will be willing to pay for a glorified N2003 on a monthly subscription after Fir$t screwed the N2003 community.

Yes there is, if your seriously this stupid then we deserve the flat tire award. Why descriminate against ISI fanboys? At least this award will demonstrate which is the thickest group of sim racers :)

I see no reason to take these awards so seriously, BHM tends to be filled with the less fanatical racers who often vote for *intresting* choices as well as RBR.

Yeah... Simracing ain't dead. I was thinking of the community. It just ain't the way it used to be with newsgroups and such.

If we could get this one perfect sim to bring us all together (dunno why I got Lord of the Rings flashback here) it would be so cool. Racing Legends could do it :) and netKar Pro looks promising too.

RBR was the one for me, if only they could get all the planned features in. RBR2 would be soooo cool and prolly mod-friendly as well. Oh well... Lets wait and see what next year brings us.

All is explained in the intro text. Not my fault you don't read it.

Surely things are explained in the intro text, but upon visiting this 'voting' system, it is very confusing, and hardly informative at all. Was the same way last year. There is no doubt in my mind that you could get some accidental votes. If you think the Flat Tire award is easily understandable, it is not, when someone approaches it, what the hell are they to think? Have descriptions on each categories page. Or else... you will just get the most common voting issues with your poll.... where people just point and read at the imagery, and then go straight to clicking on who to vote for. Nobody bothers to fully read directions... no wonder the flat tire award is so confusing.

And if you want us to be prompt about your suggestions and ideas, don't post here. Email us or post in our forum.
I'd rather not, because nobody ever talks much in the forum, especially about LFS. And if I emailed, I would just get another typical smartass reply. :thumb:

But to be fair to bhm, there aren't many other sites that keep an eye on the sim racing scene. So fast or not, otr with good forums or not, or with freedom of speech, I tend to check it at least once a week just to see if anything exciting has happened in some other game.

Oh, and it tells me when AutoSimSport is out :p

Oh, and the weekly poll thats updated every 6 weeks is sometimes amusing.

ajp71

I don't go on the BHM forum but the frontpage of the site is useful for keeping up to date with sim racing news and at least you don't have to trawl through several pages before you can find the news like on RSC :)

I still see nothing wrong in how the award are presented, tbh most of us are LFS fanboys, just like there are ISI fanboys, netkar fanboys, *maybe* Racing Legends fanboys and definately not Fir$t fanboys ;)

So see the lack of description as an anti direct link and mindlessly click here because you've been told to device.

But to be fair to bhm, there aren't many other sites that keep an eye on the sim racing scene.
But those words from Jure about sim communities falling to their hands and knees... it doesn't sound too promising.

I used to use BHM a lot for news just like you tristan, once loved it, but it has been cluttered so much, I feel hopeless to find things like I used to. The 'Awards' don't prove anything anyways, only heightens BHM's position as a middleman to pass on unofficial results.

Who cares if there are fewer sim racing titles out this year, that does not mean the market is falling, it is more-so the expectations of us racers to have a better sim, which takes a lot more time. I don't see how the community is lacking... maybe it is because there isn't one definitive Sim Racing resource site anymore??? (considering most games BHM chooses now are not sims. -- "Where sim racing dream comes true" ?? :tilt:)

It almost makes arcarde 'sims' feel accepted since BHM chooses them... GOOD simulations were at its roots, where it all started, and it couldn't live any longer if you deface the community with arcade games... soon publishers will latch onto that (probably already have), then they could be gone for good.

The community LFS has here pretty much lives on having a good simulation to play, and they know Scawen is set out to create that. People know LFS has potentional to be a great name in simulation history, but if sites conjure up an award that demotes a simulation's attempt to do so, then how would simulations live anyways? It is just so contradictory to say that the community is shrinking, when you are taking even MORE away from it by saying certain simulations are a 'flat tire blowout'. Ridiculous. How else should simulations grow if you don't show support for those who try and accel in that field? Especially for the fact that you expect this 'one great simulation' to save the community. That will never happen if this is kept up.

Yup, it WOULD be but it's not coming. :( Warthog dev team is dead and so is Richard Burns. Now that he's dead the publisher SCI probably won't even consider making a sequel named Richard Burns Rally. Even if they would do a sequel it wouldn't be developed by Warthog (instead it would be some arcade crap, just to make some money with a good "brand").

-----------

I check BHMS regurlarly because it's the main source for RBR mods and downloads. Most of the mod makers are on the forums so I read it too sometimes, just to check how some mods are progressing. I think BHMS should concentrate on the news area. "New F1 render from RacingRenders.com" - Is that really an important piece of news?

It's nice of y'all to point them to our forums, and I like more people knowing we exist as a community... But don't you think there are better ways to do that?

They are to an extent, but if you want to be faster, you gotta go with the more-evolved setups.... as usual.

But compared to most other simulations, LFS's defaults setups are not that bad.

ORION
3rd February 2006, 07:27
I'd say - you dont have to set the most unrealistic settings in the setup to make car feel real...
In LFS, making a setup is quite logical... in the other games it isn't, at least not for me...
