December 22, 2007 - News of the LFS World
Only day after the release of the latest groundbreaking patch for the popular online racing simulator there is already a scandal in the horizon. The patch that was about to move Live for Speed into a whole new level of realism has been completely overshadowed by the findings from the official website.
The controversial piece of text in the website's 'More about the racing simulator' section was censored shortly after it had been exposed but we learned that it said: "LFS S2 is a serious racing simulator. No arcade modes, no steering aids - YOU have to do the driving. It is therefore highly recommended to drive the sim with a steering wheel, because even though you can use keyboard and/or mouse, a wheel is what you use in a real car, so a wheel should be used in a serious racing simulator."
Apparently the whole sim racing community is completely stunned because of this shocking discovery from the past. Players cannot understand how the loved developers could have said something so cruel - and especially planned increasing the realism level silently behind everyone's back.
Another controversy relates to a minor change in the demo version of the game [dem-o (noun) ~ demonstration, something made available for testing by potential buyers, a trial version of software that demonstrates its principle features, Oxford English Dictionary].
A spokesman of the association called "Broke Demo Drifters" said in our interview "We can't believe what has just happened, I remember when I started playing the demo back in 2003, and everything was good until the new patch but now the whole game just disgusts me". He adds "I am truly shocked, I could have never thought that a game in an unfinished alpha stage could suddenly change in such a drastic way". "I have rights too, even that it never popped into my mind to actually buy the game," he said with a devastated voice.
The spokesman was also evidently surprised about the new information claiming that a wheel and a set of pedals are actually the most suitable controlling equipments for a racing simulator. "For example I can't buy a wheel because there is no pink G25 available," he said.
Also an anonymous member of the developer team, a suspected sim racing purist himself, briefly commented the controversy: "We did kind of expect this to happen sooner or later but honestly - during the patch developing process we didn't care and we still don't give a shit."

tbh, I've been using mouse (and keyboard of course) for the past 4 years, and I don't have any problems using this new clutch thingy. I've also tried my brother's wheel a few times and it would take so long to be accustomed that I'll probably just stick with mouse forever :shy:

It must be frustrating for the devs who after so much hard work come on this forum and see the rubbish posted by people who clearly don't 'get' LFS. I am sure the majority of the devoted LFS fans and anyone who appreciates sim racing welcomes the new additions to realism made in the new patch and I suppose this is all the devs should worry about. However, it seems that idiots who want 'the ultimate drifting simulator' or whatever seem to overshadow what should be a great time for LFS fans to celebrate.
btw LOL :)

If you can't stand some humour then there's really something fücked up with this community. Of course I stand behind what I said but this is quite polite compared to what has been said in couple of other recent threads. And I didn't actually make fun of anyone by name, it's just generalisation.

Wow! I give this piece of work a 10/10. It was hilarious, and extremely well done.
I just want to say. All these complaining demo drifters can(and maybe should) leave. At least 95% of these "Broke Demo Drifters" aren't ever boing to buy the game so it might be good to get them to leave now. They aren't going to make a contribution to the development of LFS so why should they keep playing?

And you want some rights ! Hell no... you dont want to support the game, then Devs should screw the Demo users more - until they will understand, that they could buy S2 and support Devs...
Anyways, who cares about you Demo users :) ...we ? NOOOOOT !

Ive just been on track with a m8 of mine in the BF1 and the FOX cars i use a mouse and my friend a wheel.... he now finds it way to hard to drive and is killing his insperation to play, Cough ive been like that for nearly 3 years cause for a mouse usser certain cars cannot be raced with a mouse.... iam no Noob and have spent many happy hour going round in circles racing other on line idiots who have forgot where there break pedal is. Lfs is now somewhat harder for wheel ussers yes as it is for mouse ussers but i feel this has brought the two parties closer together in thier times on track but only to a point. Mouse ussers are at a dissadvantage have been since wheels came out.
This will always be the case now and forever... Trouble here now is you ppl with the wheels that spent good money for are finding it like too much hard work ... these ppl in life are the shirkers.... ppl who have mouses and persist is trying are the real heroes for putting up with this nonsense and others on line wingeing for nothing.
There is no more cutting corners and throwing the car aroung like it dosent matter anymore. ppl can do 1 or 2 things here either put up or shut up... ie like it or lump it... no ones asking you to stay or to go and the people at lfs dont care either since they now have your money.... BUMMER aint it :thumb:

Who wrote this?
Everyone who complains about Patch Y is either a demo racer, Or has only been around for a year. Or they are drifters, Mousers Dont have a problem with the patch, (I drive mouse sometimes when im on this computer as i dont have a desk to attach my g25 to) I dont know about keyboard, Because it became too retarded after patch 0.1E (Old school).
So please, Demo/Keyboarders. Get over it.
Although there is one thing i dont like about driving with the mouse, After clutching, It takes a tiny bit too long for the clutch to go back down :)

a great post, Deggis, although it seems no one except me noticed the tiny little bits of brain you inserted into the "Broke Demo Drifters" Spokesman's sayings :D
I doubt that any of these demo drivers will find out soon that they can actually buy the game and the XRT is magically back again. Heck, they don't even need to get S2 to drive that thing, S1 will be just fine. And thats like 18 euros. Even I got that much pocket money when I was 12 years old :D:D

Maybe it´s time to get rid of the "demo user racing community".
Just allow 30 Minutes LFS online per day, you can test the game and if you like it, buy it.
I think the devs are too generous to demo users which is shown by the massive abuse of the intention of a demo version.

I doubt that any of these demo drivers will find out soon that they can actually buy the game and the XRT is magically back again.I'm sure they know. My guess is that to them the word "Demo" doesn't mean "trial version without any warranty" but something like "fully functional version with less content that you get for free". And now that some of the demo content has been taken out, they come complaining in their role of dissatisfied customers.
Scavier could offer to give them their money back, of course... :tilt:
Mako.
23rd December 2007, 18:38
the thing is, I TIRED drifting yesterday... I used the KY track, and the XRT... I prcticed for 4 hrs straight, and still couldn't do it right... so I dont understand why the demoers are complaining... because the XRT kinda sucks.

My thoughts - new patch is fantastic. Lots of added realism and brilliant reply from the devs in that interview :D
Message to "Broke Demo Drifters" - stop whinging about it, stop drifting, get a f*cking job then pay for s2, everybody's happy.
I do find keyboard controls difficult at this time as I'm laid up after an operation so can't use my wheel, but in that situation a gamepad isn't too bad to use, just waiting for the day that I decide to buy a G25 - seen some brilliant reviews and LFS needs it. It's been badged as the ultimate racing simulator, and whats a simulator when you can't damage engine components and the main control method is a keyboard?? A simulator is just that - simulate real life.
If I were the devs, my reply would be "Find me a car which you operate with a keyboard and we'll make the game keyboard friendly".
A decentish wheel is less than £30 nowadays - and LFS S2 is only £24, so whats the problem? Even benefits give out more than that per week now so stop complaining, and learn that you have to BUY things you want in real life. Sh*t happens at the end of the day.
Devs - Well done, major changes in Patch Y - all for the better IMHO!

The joke about a pink wheel is useless, because for a mouse driver nothing has changed in LFS. I continue driving with mouse and don't see a problem to change gear. Yes, I'd like to buy a rudder & pedals (not a round wheel), but don't want to bother myself with mounting and unmount it to the table.

Good that you're in the minority of mouse drivers then :) I think most of the whining related to removing of auto cut/blip comes from mouse drivers. That was just referring to the arti/superficial reasons some of themm have now brought up. Excuses like like "no space for a wheel" (in a 60m³ single flat) or the "money reason" when at cheapest you can get a second-hand DFP for less than 50 € and they probably spend more money weekly on booze.
Mako.
