View Full Version : Any way to increase the maximum steering lock angle?

LFS1 used to have more than 40 degrees of maximum steering lock angle. LFS2 have seen that reduced to 36. This is o.k. with grip racers but for drifters like me, this is not good. Is there any way that can bring the maximum steering lock angle back to more than 40?

36 is not a bad thing for drifting but does limit severe angle producing like show drifting.

The steering lock was decreased for S2 because real life cars don't have enough space for the wheels to rotate more than 36degrees. If you can proove that some real life cars have an angle greater than 36 degrees for maximum steering lock, then Scawen may be willing to change it. I don't see why you cannot drift with that steering lock. I have done some spectacular drifts with it on a 900deg rotation wheel, despite being a racer most of the time.

I think Scawen said that if you could find a car with more than 36 degrees of lock that is similar to the cars in LFS (so ignore taxi's and vans which often have more lock), then he WOULD change it. But as you won't, neither will he.

What is this 900deg rotation wheel? I have MS Sidewinder precision racing wheel.

What is this 900deg rotation wheel?

The Logitech Driving Force Pro.

The Logitech Driving Force Pro.

Yes. Meaning 900deg lock-to-lock. Not 900deg rotation for the wheels of cars (that would be stupid because its 2.5 revolutions).

Attached is replay of my drift. Now try to tell me you can't drift in LFS.

So does the logitech make more than 2 turns?

2.5 as stated above. It's what 900 degrees is...

Thanks, I will study your replay. Here is mine with some drifting tries. Could you tell me what I am doing wrong?

For one, your LFS username and WEB Password work here and will show S2 Licensed under your name rather than Demo racer. I can't tell you what you are doing wrong, because I am not a drifter. You can go grab yourself a proper drifting setup there (http://setupfield.teaminferno.hu/) though.

There are plenty of real life cars with more than 40 deg steering angle. Rhys Millen in Formula D has around 60 deg. on the GTO. Also Mazda FC3S has some after market products that allows more than 50 deg. Nissan 240sx has 39-43 deg on its inside wheel and 33 deg on its outside wheel on stock setting. This can increase to 45 ged if after market tie rod ends are put on. And of course you have to hammer in the wheel well if you put aftermarket tie rod ends. If Scanwen's mention of "real life" car faithfully means "stock" cars, then let him keep the max steering angle this way.

Thanks a lot any ways.

The setable Max. steering lock in LFS in unrealistic/bugged anyway. You can reduce steering lock IRL , but if you do that you reduce the turning angle of your steering wheel by the same amount. Setting the steering lock in LFS would equal IRL changing the steering-ratio by replacing the steering gear.

Btw. with parallel steering set to 0% (which comes close to ackermann) , your inside wheel has a max. lock of ~44° (on cars that have 36° Max.). Should be good for drifting because in a drift,in contersteering mode, your outside wheel can countersteer up to ~44°. :)
