Worthy nominations, all. :)

(Please note that I did not personally select the nominees for each category. There was a nomination period (http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=34740) in which anyone could submit nominations. With a few exceptions, the nominees in these polls were those who received more than one nomination each in the given category. For a full explanation of the process used to select the nominees, look here (http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=35285).)

Awww...dun worry Bob....in any case, I would say that your set-up aid has been around for more than just this year, even if it was finally completed this year!

I voted for Race Spectator, simply because The CTRA-X System is not released to the public, thus nobody has actually "used" it, besides seeing it used on the CTRA servers.

Hmm that's too bad. Car Sound Remixer is definitely the best LFS add-on ever!

Would be good to have a few links to the nominees. While they can be found by searching, I reckon all of them deserve a bit of easy link traffic.

LFS Replay Analyser (http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=20056) would have got my nomination (if I'd seen the notice ... ) For me, the clarity of the design really puts it apart from the other analysers.

'Unfortunaly' Outgauge_Stalling (http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=120832#post120832) by eindewege was already published in 2006, but nevertheless I would vote for it if possible. It was and still is a great addition for all manual clutch drivers in pre-X30. :thumb:

My second vote would be on LFS Replay Analyser, which was also very helpful to me.

Wait, so CTRA's system is an addon that you can download?

I think this is another one of those oddly placed nominations if in fact you cannot download it or use it as an addon, which I believe is so

That's what I thought. The CTRA system is not available for download :scratchch

Says nothing about it having to be downloadable.

It's for the best external addon, and CTRA is an external addon.

By "Add-on", you can be so inclined to believe it is something for the community to download... as pretty much any of the other choices and nominations in this poll/thread are.

Yet the CTRA system is privately run, programmed, and managed... which is in my opinion, not an "external addon" when it comes to such a common term for a downloadable application to a game or program.

Sadly it was said in the nominations thread:

Best External Add-On (InSim or other programming-related)
Which should've been dealt with beforehand IMO. CTRA-X doesn't classify as an add-on IMO.

CTRA's system fits to "Best InSim System" (eg CTRA, Cruise/Money Systems, etc). InSim systems are very popular nowadays, and have changed the way we play LFS online immensely. Which is why it would've been awfully nice to see two categories for proper "Add-ons" that are public downloadable tools (especially Bob's GRC), and the InSim system category. Seeing CTRA-X up against Cruise/Money systems would've been sweet :D

Too late now I guess  Stuff this.

Thatīs also what I was trying to point out earlier:
http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=635530#post635530

We are speaking of external addons, which expand every-day LFS experience.
We can use them if we want and whenever we want.
CTRA-X is used merely in CTRA servers and what does it do? It administrates the CTRA servers and feeds the CTRA site with statistical information.
The complexity of the system and the wide use of the insim possibilities truly makes it stand out from whatever category it is put into, but in my humble opinion, this is the category it does not fit into.

Having worked on the X-System for the last 8 months or so, I can confirm that it is an external add-on for LFS, it's both "InSim-related" and also "Other programming related". IMHO, it fits very well into this category.

Perhaps the end of the poll is not the time to propose a NEW category, which I think "Best External Add-On That Runs On A User's PC Rather Than On A Server And Talks To The Client Locally Through InSim Rather Than To The Client Remotely Via The Server, And Can Be Downloaded And Run Locally Rather Than Relieving The Local Client Of The Overhead Of Running Alongside LFS Locally" would be. Or perhaps just "Best External Add-On or Other Programming Related That isn't CTRA" would have satisfied your criteria, equally?
By "Add-on", you can be so inclined to believe it is something for the community to download... as pretty much any of the other choices and nominations in this poll/thread are.
You would have to choose to make that leap. It isn't logical, though. If someone had nominated a cruise system, it would have fitted this poll's criteria just as the CTRA did.
Yet the CTRA system is privately run, programmed, and managed... which is in my opinion, not an "external addon" when it comes to such a common term for a downloadable application to a game or program.
I personally think you're twisting logic, but that's just my opinion. An external addon, IMO, relates to whether something adds on to something externally. Adding criteria such as "is downloadable" is, frankly, wholly illogical. Bahh HUMBUG, Tweak.

Everyone at CTRA is very grateful to everyone who voted for us. We're really proud of the nomination, and over the moon about the win. :)

Indeed I can see it being an add-on, I see the other side of this...

But I am just going by pure instinct of being so familiar with 'add-ons' in the gaming world... and it would only make sense that is was something public and downloadable. Such tools (eg public applications) should've really had their own poll in my opinion, because CTRA definitely outclasses them for how much work has been put into it :), but that isn't the main reason. Like I said, and I think it is fair to say.... I think it would've been better to see something along the lines of "Best InSim System" and "Best Add-on/Tool" or something. Because I must say, there are A LOT of great tools out there... all public applications and such, and they could really use an award. CTRA-X has equally as much popularity and use, but it has a different relationship to the term "add-on", that's all. Note: I am not saying CTRA should lose, just looking at a discrepancy to this poll... as with many other polls (some of which have nothing to do with CTRA, incase you are wondering Sam ;)).

I completely missed the nominations period, nor even saw the thread... it was all finished in a flash in my opinion. I would've spoken up if I saw it then OR knew about the things being nominated (though, it makes it all a surprise when nominations are done privately  ). Perhaps things to look out for at the end of this new year!!!

The first thread regarding the year-end awards was posted (http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=34540) by DWB in the beginning of december. The nominations had an entire subforum right in the General Discussions forum. I'm not sure if there was an announcement by a moderator but if there wasn't I guess that's all that was missing. Except perhaps a notice on lfs.net by the developers. But meh.

Any how, I for one did not (could not!) miss it. So no complaints from me DWB! :)

I appreciate the backup here, but the truth is that the nominations period only lasted for a week and only had a sticky thread in the General forum (not a subforum to itself). I definitely didn't get as many nominations as I would have liked, and next year I do plan to do it differently. Categories will be more rigidly defined and the nominations will go on longer and be better publicized.

As a dry run, though, I think this went pretty well.

Quite right, and it went a lot better than 'Best x of 2007' contests I've seen on other forums.

As with anything, you learn most by doing, and I'm sure next years will be even more successful.
