ghost car and the ff shifter
this looks pretty cool; but ya, kygetis is seirously making a + mark in LFS
dont really know what 'forces' are felt through a shifter, but from some peoples' responses it looks pretty good

ooooh yeees...the ghostcarmod, oh yes...now KiDs post makes sense :D
And I suppose that FF shifter program isnt there for simulating forces, its for keeping the stick on the right place...FF shifter is a silly name

I just read the thread and it doesn't seem to simulate the important forces that should be simulated.
Namely, you shouldn't be able to shift from 5th to 4th without resistance unless you have properly declutched and blipped the throttle. You should be able to snick through the gears on the acceleration side easily if you match the rpms, but the shifter should shake and fight you if you try to push it into a gear without the clutch in and/or with the rpms all wrong.
The road cars should behave differently than the race cars. Lift throttle clutchless upshifts should be possible in the race cars, thats how Hewland suggests you do it. It should be much harder to do in the road cars, and therefore encourage good clutch technique.
Finally, hitting a car ahead of you while decelerating and with the shifter in the back side of the gate (2nd, 4th, 6th) should bump you into neutral. Thats the way it works in real life.
The formula cars should probably have a sequential shifter, and the MRT definitely does. Not sure about the FZR et. al, depends on your point of view.

i guess if u want the real deal you shall have to wait for scawen's version of the idea to be finalized somewhere in the future, since it was semidone a few versions ago...
after all, thats where this program idea comes from :)

I think this was the early plans of dE Emp with there Cromo Range of things. Looks like somebody took it that one step further.
Now all we need is that Standard H plate to come out, and we are away

I've never heard of anything like that before :pillepall

Yep, I always try to make sure I'm in third when I ram someone ahead of me. Saves further embarassment.

It happens.
You probably don't know too many people who have been bumping others while braking hard in 2nd or 4th... :) I only know about it because I've read about it in a couple places. The shifter and shiftknob have mass, and the detent provides only so much resistance. If the detent was to big, shifting would be notchy and imprecise. If its too small, slamming the brakes on and hitting something (or tapping a kerb) can knock the thing out of gear.

The FFshifter program really works nice.
Sure it doesnt simulatie the forces in a shifter when badshifting or so, but it does give you a H-shifter at the price of a forcefeedback joystick.
Since the Actlabs thingy isnt sold anymore (or at crazy prices at ebay), and FREX's shifter is way to expensive, this is a very nice alternative.

Yes, I really like this little addon. Its very configurable and works well enough to be used without a H plate (once its set up properly).
cheers to the guy who made this. I didnt even know it was available because there was nothing on this forum about it ('till now), and id stopped reading the old RSC forums.

I do. Still i have never heard of this or had it happen to me. Surley you'd need to hit something REALLY hard to get the forces needed to push the lever from it's position in 2nd or 4th (or 6th). If you got those sort of forces your car would be wrecked anyway.
I wouldn't like to see this implememted into a FF Shifter system. Things like a vibrating stick when u miss a gear and stuff like that would be cool, but not this other thing mentioned above.

Watch the FFShifter thread (http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=214673). Beta 0.4 will arrive some time in the new year and it will support clutch emulation (from pedals/keyboard/joystick button) along with bad shifts (resistance - kicking - sound effects).

wooot, I'm going to do some work with my hands tomorrow.
Glad I have an old FF shifter somewhere. Just need to move my bed to get my hands at it. wooopiedoo

Well if you mean if there are any FF H Shifters as a commercial product, there are none as far as I know. There is though a small utility called FFShifter (http://forum.rscnet.org/showthread.php?t=214673) which helps you emulate an H-Shifter with a force feedback joystick.
