Hey everyone, I'm new to this forum, but not forums in general.
A friend showed me his registered Live For Speed game and man I was impressed. So I downloaded the demo and I'm loving it. :thumb:
To start off I'm 15, and I've owned 2 Toyota Supras. One was a 1983 Celica Supra. We did a na-t on it, and eventually parted it out. Now I own a 1987 Mark 3 Supra, and I can't believe how close it is to the XRT in LFS. I have brought pictures along with me, and was just introducing myself.
Also, I would like to note I have been searching this forum for a little over a month and decided I'm ready for a new home.
Enjoy the pics everyone!

Yup, one was a 1983 Celica Supra, which should also be on my photobucket account as well. I've been a member on various Supra forums for years.
The 1983 Supra I bought for 250$ for working at a pizza place. Ended up saving money, tapping the oil pan, slapping a 7m manifold and ct26 on the 5m, and a nice rising rate fuel pressure regulator and at 8 psi, it was a beast. We ended up blowing the stock head gasket not to long down the road (I really wasn't suprised) and we then parted the car out.
Then I bought a 1987 Supra when I just turned 15 for 1900$. I bought it automatic non-turbo with a fresh paintjob and only 140k on the body, and we are currently in the process of a 2jz-ge-t swap.
As for live for speed, it's an amazing game and I can't wait to scrape up enough for the license!

Only 2 cars, both Toyota Supras, and both lucky finds.
Yeah I've had 2 jobs, one at 14 holding a sign for a pizza place. And now I'm currently working with/for my grandpa arc welding. We usually weld handrails but sometimes hitches and farm equipment/repair.
As of driving, nope, in the state of Kentucky you have to be 16 to be a permit holder, 16 & 1/2 to be an intermediate license holder, and 17 to be an unrestricted license holder. But I still take it around the block after tuning =D

Actualy, the XRT is modeled after a Mitsubishi Starion, you should google it. Its practiacaly identical on the outside.
Plus, one of the Devs, I think the modeler? actualy said its modeled after a starion.
I've actualy seen one race ready here in canada, very nice car.
Your supras not bad either.

Actually auto's run more consistent times at the track, but I would still rather have a 6speed. We are either going with the getrag 6speed transmission or the Th400 platform.
Still haven't decided yet:shrug:

Welcome :)
Damnit, you only have to be 16 in Kentucky to get a permit and 17 for a full license? That's ONE less year away from a full license than it is in NJ..
Like most others, I say the XR is based 99.9% off of the Starion rather than the Supra, but whatever. Oh and in case you didn't already know.. the dash of the XR is taken directly from the 3000GT. So don't freak out and go crazy if you see a 3000 and automatically think you're looking at a real-life incarnation of the XRT like I've done numerous times :)

I think it is, even Ace Ventura uses it as a joke. 'Warning, assholes may be closer than they appear!'
Basically someone had an accident, sued the manufacturer, now it has a warning sticker. Or at least I assume thats how it went down, considering its America I am probably right.
Oh and welcome to the forum, is your car similar in power and wieght as well as looks?

Let's just say... I should have payed more attention to what's going on on the road, instead of "how cool I look in my old Japanese coupe that nobody normal sees as a very special car"
anyway, lost control, skid off the road, but Im lucky, since the tree has softened my stop...kinda :shy:
(I got a reputation of a destroyer of sports cars...first the E30 then this, then it was the E36...that's exactly why I now bought a Mazda 6 with a 2.0, at least it's slow, it was either this or a TVR...and well...I didn't want to die tomorrow) :D

Ahh that's tragic :( They really are amazing cars, with very subtle looks.
To be fair it's not exactly a HARD car to crash. I remember when I was learning to drive, my right food discovered the world of boost, and the back end kicked out real quick, glad I was in a parking lot. I must say Toyota really did the right thing when making those 1JZ's. 2.5 litres across 6 cylinders, perfect balance of displacement/size/weight. Add the very well done twin-turbo setup, and you have a potent engine ready for some bolt-ons, and a bottom end thats good for some HIGH numbers.

Wellllll, It could be a 2JZ-GE (naturally aspirated) with a turbo swap (hence the -t added) It's sometimes done when a good GTE engine or platform can't be found. It only takes a little bit of tweaking to make a GE engine accept a turbo.
Hm...you know you're a Supra freak when you have that in memory, and your 15 :p

Nice car man... Nothing wrong with an Automatic for a street cruiser or a 1/4 mile car. Don't like the gauges at all though but I'm not a big fan of imports either.
There is like 4-5 of those 80s Celica/Supras sitting in lawns to rot within 20 miles of me. Not 100% sure they are all Supras as some are too far from the road.
Finally another kid who had cars before he could drive legally.... I had a 69 Datsun pickup with a old school 350ci when I was 10 and a few T-Birds and Mustangs before I could drive.
Here in Maine its 15 for a learners permit and 16 for a license.

Wow I was gone for a couple days and came back to a bunch of wonderful replies! Thanks everyone!
Yes I get the "Aww, man, it's an automatic" Just about every person who is interested in my Supra. Well that's about to change..
We decided to go with the R154 transmission (5 speed in turbo MA70's) with a stiff clutch (In or out, no in-between :thumb:). We are going to drop the 2jz from a naturally aspirated 1995 Supra and do a NA-t using a single turbo. We still haven't decided yet, but I figure no need to as of now knowing that the swap itself is going to be time consuming.
I have plenty of time to decide.
And I'm planning to register LFS as the demo is amazing, and I can't wait for the others. Is online as fun as the regular game?
LFS = Great when the Supras down for work :smileypul
dropin_biking

Sweet man that sounds awesome :thumb: The R154 is a GREAT tranny, as long as you keep it mantained. They can handle quite a bit of power, plus make a great matchup for a clutch upgrade. "My" slightly worn one in the '92 has a twin-disk carbon clutch infront of it, makes street driving a little more interesting ;)
As for LFS, it really is an amazing game. All the tracks are very unique, but symbolize different 'areas'. You might enjoy Fern Bay if you end up getting S2, it's a very happy bright area, with lots of fun combos. Get S2 as soon as you can, you won't regret it. I used to play the Grand Turismo and GTR series games, and (imo) LFS blows them out of the water.

Yeah, I've heard a lot of good input on the R154 transmission, and that's why I'm going through with it.

Is there going to be a LFS 3? And if so, what will it be like?

zeugnimod
27th November 2007, 21:06
Yes, there will be a S3 which is supposed to be the last stage of LFS.
The main things that are supposed to come in S3 are rain and night/day change (and probably new cars and tracks). Nothing is confirmed, though. This is only what is rumoured.
dropin_biking
27th November 2007, 21:17
Yes, wise zeugnimod is right. Although its the custom that new cars and tracks come with a 'stage' update. Although anything could happen to LFS after S2 goes final. We could get a whole new physics update, amazing weather conditions, or S3 might not happen. We're all one growing family, nothing is very "strict" The Dev's never rush themselves, and always do a thourough job, and you must remember, they do have lives AFK.
Although rolling up in a Supra in LFS would be freaking awesome ;)

TBH if you liked the demo you'll lve S2. It takes all the good points from the demo and multiplies them tenfold. Plus you'll have driven tens of thousands of miles before you could even think of saying you've mastered every car and track combo.
The online racing is also of a much higher standard in general than the demo, even more so if you join a league or race on the high level CTRA servers.
No point waiting for S3 IMO, you will have a great time with S2 for the forseeable future. I know I sound like a fanboy (Scavier, you owe me 20 quid :) ) but if you end up disagreeing with me you have full permission to kick me in the groin... Hard. :thumb:

Sounds sweet. I don't know if everyone does this, or if I'm just weird. But I guess where I haven't got my license yet...
I kind of cruise around and floor it only on the straightaways. Sometimes I keep it under 3k. I think if the creators of LFS are trying to improve, I can always suggest these few things. I haven't seen a game with all of these yet, but really, I would be thankful with a few.
1. Turn signals activated with certain keys on the keyboard
2. When raining, and inside view is selected, wipers are on
3. Driver moves his hand down to shift (GT4 does this on topless (you know what I mean) cars)
4. Legs move according to the pedals they are/aren't pushing
And last but not least, the 2 clutch settings
1. Race setting - depresses faster
and/or
2. Cruise setting - depresses slower and smoother
Or maybe an option that lets you adjust the press/depress rate.
I know programing isn't easy (C++ for 3 months, failed, returned to watching others do so), but that's just me. Like I said, just something I would love to see in a future game.

Already inside. IIRC, it's 7 for left, 8 for right, 9 are the hazards and 0 turns them off.
And last but not least, the 2 clutch settings
1. Race setting - depresses faster
and/or
2. Cruise setting - depresses slower and smoother

Kind of a moot point once you actually have a FF wheel with clutch pedal, no? ;) Anyway, I think if you're using manual-button clutch, then adjusting the button rate will do exactly that.
LFS is quite fun with keyboard and/or mouse (considering how many people are using LFS for years with that combo), but you're missing out A LOT without a decent force feedback wheel.
