You know, this makes me think about the circuits we have in LFS right now... compared to most real life ones. All of our circuits are not as flat or smooth as some of the fast/popular circuits, plus there is a lot more room around the track than ours... ours all feel very 'enclosed' (eg trees, hills, walls, on all sides). I know it could be for a sense of speed, but looking at some of the most well known circuits around, most have lots of space with grass and sand... not just enclosed by objects. Hard to explain, but if you look at a few photos of these tracks (I've searched around just to see what some of these are like), they all look very classic and fun to drive, even for their simplicity. Some are small, but have some interesting corners WITH hardly any elevation changes. Those kinds of courses I like too, and to me... it seems most UK tracks don't use many hills... including some others in Europe... like Assen.

Forbin
30th November 2005, 03:32
Yeah, I love Assen. Just goes to show you don't need elevation changes to make an exciting track.

Although, elevation changes can be very exciting. Corkscrew, Eau Rouge, Flugplatz, etc. :)

Yes, you are right :)

TagForce
30th November 2005, 08:22
Assen is not really suited for car racing (even though they use it for national series now)... Most of the turns are banked, and there's a lot of banked 'kinks' that makes cars bottom out really bad. The layout is very cool, though. The trackwidth is very small... Just barely enough to allow cars passing, although the new parts are a bit wider.

We'll have to see what the new track will look like without the 'noordlus'.

Yeah. Was talking about it on IRC, maybe some of you caught that ;). It is 'Pacific Raceways'... I don't know why... maybe because it is a drag strip, motox, road course, etc... all combined. Wierd though. It is a very classic woodsy track that just seems cool to me, specifically because the turns require a lot of late apex turn-ins.

I remember this track from someone doing it for NR4... Not sure if it ever was finished... Anyway... He called it Pacific Raceway, and didn't have the dragstrip modeled :)

I remembered the layout because the name always reminded me of the race that was held on this next track, which I wanted to drive but didn't have:

These ones are all in the UK, so if you're from here you've got an advantage!

1 is a very hard one so I left "Roads" on on Google Earth - they include the track.
2 shouldn't be that hard but the picture was awful, so I've (badly) drawn the track on.
3 is very hard too but you can clearly see the track layout.
4 should be extremely easy! Even non-Brits should get this.
5 is a hard one too but a good quality picture.

If anyone gets 1, 3 and 5 I'll be impressed!

Street course, I've traced the route (with one minor possible error, wasn't sure exactly where the hairpin was). Also excuse the fragment of the googlemaps controls.

I think you got the hairpin about right... About half a block too far, I think.

San Jose City Course ;) I went to that race... I regret it actually, not a good track for spectators at all... not even 'tracklike' for the cars even :(

DING!

I hear they're trying to improve it for spectators and racers alike... put stands closer to the track and widen/smooth the track in places so it won't be a parade. I live nearby, which is why I thought of posting it.

Here's another one... not exactly a race track, but a very famous location that's related to autosport.

I saw the revised map, it does look a bit different around that Chavez area. But the last straightway has got to go. That area is like a slum, and is a terrible spot to add a section of the track :( I really don't think they can make it better for spectators because the fencing is what the problem is. They will never get rid of the fencing for safety, and that is too bad because, if you try to look down the track, you won't see it at all, because the farther down, the fencing ever-so-slightly obstructs the view more and more, until you cannot see anything at all. And that is within like a 30 foot distance :(. The only way to make it better would be to have grandstands EVERYWHERE that are higher than the fences. And hopefully the grandstands could be free in most areas, but chances are they wouldn't be. I was hoping for the best with that track, since it is only 30 mins from my place, but all the people that went with me agree that there is a slim chance we will ever go again, unless they can make huge improvements for the spectators... but it is so cramped there with so many restrictions on where put things, it still seems they are troubled with making a decent track.

I still prefer Laguna Seca :static: And Infineon 2nd, but that place is always hot!
