Momo racing ffb 200% no spring back force in games, with gas and brake pedals, wheel paddles for shifting, sequence shifter back (towards me) is handbrake and forwards is clutch, i use auto clutch though until i get clutch pedal. And s2 full for the matter too lol. S2 first of course.

Here is my mouse config (until I get a decent FFB wheel):

Theafro
16th August 2005, 17:27
20% of LFS users don't own a FFB wheel, hmm
i've seen loads more keyboard players online than the 2% we got in the poll
KB users are less likeley to participate in community goings on i suppose.

mouse + pedals sound interesting!

How many peeps have a clutch + shifter tho' ( ishould have added that one in the poll) for MAXIMUM realism.

Bob Smith

pb32000
19th August 2005, 23:24
Maximum realism would include a motion simulator. ;)

To be completely realistic you would need something to create g-forces for everything, acceleration, braking, crashing etc. Not even the force-dynamics (I think that's what it's called) system creates a true realistic simulation. Problem is by the time you start spending big amounts of money you could almost go out and race for real when yuo wanted.

I use a momo force (red one).
Really like it, especially the leather 8)
I also have a dfp but can't seem to get it to work like it should, i also like the pedals of the momo more.
And soon ofcourse a logitech force 3d for shifting :D

Hello. I just started playing this game today. I don't have an FF wheel yet, so I gotta use an analog gamepad called the NeGcon from Namco. http://www.thocp.net/software/games/consoles/sony/pictures/playstation_negcon_controller_large.jpg

My question is, is it worth playing LFS with a gamepad? I'm just not enjoying it so far and the cars are suffering from severe understeer.

How do I give the cars a bit more grip and less understeer?

I'll be getting the Speed 7 FF wheel from BRD in November BTW :)

WGooden
20th August 2005, 23:50
The servere understeer is typical for people who first play the game. You probably steer the car full lock when you're going into a corner thinking its the best way to get around. It just takes some practice and you'll realize that you only need to steer slightly, the smoother you drive the faster you'll get. You can try turning your steering sensitivity down a bit also.

B2B@300
21st August 2005, 02:26
Isamu ive been playing lfs with an xbox controller for over a year now.. had similar bad experiences at first until i realised that u only need a very small amount of steering input to actually get around the track (ie on BLGP with GTi I ended up only using "Max Steering Lock" of 9 deg) nowdays I've managed to get a better driver that allows me to lessen the steering input sensetivity on the controller. With max steering lock set to 9 deg you will find you have much more control at the central position for straight line driving and more prescion in the corners, the only downside is if you spin you dont have much steering lock to turn around again LOL so my solution is DONT SPIN :P

Well most wheels are compatible, although i would recomend the G25, Momo or DFP from Logitech, Momo and DFP are about £50 and work great, while the G25 is much better and comes with 3 pedals, its £150

I used to be quite good on the old Ks. But 8 weeks of LFS soon wrecked me tendons in my wrists. :hihi: So I went for my Sony PS2 Pad / USB connector. Got it to actually go straight to.:smileypul Pretty awesome to drive now.

I got a spring wheel/peddels. I just choose not to use it. I find it a bit cumbersome. Also, I use the 3rd Person / Chase View to drive, so wheel control sorta feels bizaar.

You can control with any of the 12 buttons or sticks.
I use the sticks, left stick for steer and right stick for gas & brake :D

ANYTHANG YA WANT. ANY STYLE YA WANT. Gas=[x] or Gas=Sticks

Yeh- its awesome. I managed to make my PS2 PAD with standard XP drivers make my car even PIT / LEAVE PITS / CHANGE VIEW / CHANGE CAR FOCUS / F1 - F4 keys /
ALL if which (BTW) un-changable in LFS.

ie: View = "V" key (cant modify this in LFS)

But I managed to Assign View(V) it to the TRIANGLE button. I used a fantastic free program called JOYTOKEY (on google)
Edit:
http://www.electracode.com/4/joy2key/JoyToKey%20English%20Version.htm
http://www.oneswitch.org.uk/2/I/JoyToKey/JoyToKey.htm
You can assign any joystick press to any keyboard/mouse function. It would probably also work with steering wheels and Joysticks. You might get a program such as this when you purcahse a USB PS2 style joypad. If you dont - use it - its free.

Wheel (spring) here.

If you've never used a wheel for a racing sim, then you would be amazed at an old center sprung style wheel. You will be flippin out at how awesome it is. You will be having a blast thinking it is sooooo cool that it is like driving.

Move on to a force feedback wheel after playing with that center sprung wheel and it's those thoughts all over again x100. Now you start to feel the car. You don't go by visual cues that the back end is swinging out. You go by what the wheel is doing. You feel understeer and over steer. You feel the brakes locking up. You get so much more feedback using an FF wheel over a center sprung wheel it is ridiculous.

If you don't yet have a wheel, don't even think about a non-force feedback wheel. If you would ever upgrade in the future, you will be kicking yourself for not getting force feedback to begin with.

I thought this poll was about the best or most used tools/mods for LFS. It's not, so I'm unable to pay my tribute to Kegetys (and others). I'll pay my tribute to some hardware manufacturers, then:
- Logitech for G25
- Enermax for the wonderfully stylish and precise Aurora keyboard
More could be named, but it's not related to controllers.
