View Full Version : Demo racing league
Leifde
20th November 2005, 18:32
All the leagues on here seem to be for licensed players so I'm thinking of setting up a demo league.
I know the season wouldn't be very long as there's only 2 tracks (well, 4 including reverse ones) so there would have to be several races per track to make it worthwhile.
Reply if interested and hopefully we can get a league setup. :)
EDIT: League setup, please visit http://kalev99.googlepages.com/lfsdemoleague

Well the idea of having a Demo Race is to gather all those people who have not yet decide to by the full Version.
Put them on track and organize a small tournament with the only objetive to promote the sale of the full version.
Other wise it will be useless becuase all the races are not even counting in our records so for me it is like if I wouldnīt play.
I am sharing these with you guys becuase it is what we are doing in Mexico, and this is a good way to convince them to upgrade to S2 and play in our S2 Leagues.

Hi there! :)
I'm quite interested in racing in demo league. I plan to buy S2 license ASAP, but I'm not sure when it happens :( so taking part in event like you are discussing on here would make me very happy )))

A demo series would be very good to show demo drivers what s2 is all about, and i think there are a few demo drivers who were in my situation without any way of paying for the game :), i managed to arrange something with a friend and such a series will determine them to try harder to find a way to pay for the game

Ok, I'm currently creating the website for this, it should be up within 3 weeks.
I have made a rough draft of the season.
Saturday 4th March - Blackwood GP Track - All cars - 15 laps
Saturday 1st April - Blackwood Rallycross - XFG - 2 races - 6 laps
Saturday 15th April - Blackwood Rallycross - XRG, XRT - 2 races - 6 laps
Saturday 6th May - Blackwood GP Track Reverse - XRG - 15 laps
Saturday 13th May - Blackwood GP Track Reverse - XFG, XRT - 15 laps
Saturday 10th June - Blackwood Rallycross Reverse - All cars - 2 races - 10 laps
Saturday 15th July - Blackwood GP Track - All cars - 2 races - 20 laps
Each car would be in a seperate class
XRT - GT1
XRG - GT2
XFG - GT3
There will also be an optional 4.5 hour endurance race sometime in september. The endurance race will not count towards the championship. It will be in the same format as the other races, all 3 cars on Blackwood GP for 4.5 hours. The winner will be the person who has covered the most amount of laps in that time. Due to it being an endurance a minimum of 2 drivers per car are required.
There will be a 30min qualifying session before each race.

I've got tonnes of spare server capacity if you need a hand/want some servers for these demo leagues/cups
I think it is a ace idea, i had great fun on the demo servers (so much that i run 14 of my own in various setups) and it prompted me to purchase the S2 license a few days ago.
drop me a pm on here if you want to take up my offer.

I've had the idea of putting up a prize of an S2 license for the winner of the season. I cannot pay for this myself, my parents wouldn't let me so it would be dependent on donations. If you think this is a good idea and would like to help, please PM me.
This would create more licensed drivers (ok, 1 a year/half-year but..) and so I think it'd be a really good idea.

Due to it being an endurance a minimum of 2 drivers per car are required.I have decided the car will be the XF GTi to give everyone a fair chance (XRG & XRT can be hard to drive by keyboard).
8 of your races count towards your total score (there's 10 races) so it doesn't matter if you miss 2. Your 2 lowest scores will not count.
I will contact the person who has offered to buy the S2 license to see if they would be willing to donate a couple more for the endurance winners.
Endurance Rules
1.1 Each car must have two (2) drivers only.
1.2 Each car will have a number between 50 and 99 inclusive.
1.2a The numbers will be decided randomly.
1.3 For every car there will be a team consisting of the drivers of that car.
1.3a Each team member must have their name in the following format: {team_name}-{car_number}-racer_name
1.3b A team may have more than one (1) car but no more than two (2).
1.4 There is a limit of five (5) teams per server.
1.4a There will only be one server unless ten (10) teams sign up, in which case there will be two (2) servers.
Those rules are subject to change at any time.
We need to set a day for the races to take place on, please post your votes on here. Races cannot take place on Saturdays as this clashes with the Karting League.
My vote is for Sunday.

i think that you will only need a teammate if you want to race in the endurance race! according to his posts, there will be a single driver challenge with the schedule above, then after that champion is crowned, there will be one endurance race also with 2 more winners to be crowned! i hope that helps, im sure there will be more information to come soon :)

The server is up now, it is called "LFS Demo League".
The server will go password protected a few hours before each event and the password protection will be removed sometime after each event (the next day)
This practise isn't important, it just lets you get an idea of who you're up against, so you do not need to attend.
Just to clear things up the practise is scheduled for Sunday 26th February at 8pm GMT

i think that if all the racers will drive clean, there will not be crash...
Remember, there is NOT just the throttle, there are ALSO the brake...And there are many laps, not just one, so the racers should think that there will be many place where pass other racers...
I hope that this is clear for all the racers...not only in a league, but also in all the single race that they do. Sometime racers don't brake, crash and then ask to restart the race...do you think this is right? I don't think so...if i wrong... my fault, i go to the box to repair my car, i don't ask to restart the race; if another racer drive clean and don't have cresh... GOOD FOR HIM!!!
Think about this!!!:scratchch

Taking into account keyboard drivers I'd say the average lap time of BLGP would be 1:34.
There will be 2 races, a sprint and a main race.
The sprint race will be 10 laps long with no forced pitstops. - around 15 mins
The main race will be 25 laps long with 1 forced pitstop. - around 39 mins
I would like to do the qualifying like A1GP (4 sessions, 1 lap each session) but we wouldn't have time for that and I would have to arrange the grid manually so there will be 20 mins qualifying before the event.
I will post a detailed season schedule sometime soon.
EDIT: If the majority of the field (over half) is taken out on the first lap then the race will be restarted.

I have only listed demo racers there, if you're S2 licensed and you want to join then PM me please - 1 space left unless demo racers can't get there.
Me and th84 will be moderators on the night. The server will go password protected at 6:30pm on Sunday. You will each recieve a PM with the server details in sometime on Sunday before the event.
Just a little note about driving standards: if we think your driving is not up to scratch then we may refuse your entry into the league.
These are the things we will be looking for in your driving:
1) Stability - you are not weaving across the track randomly.
2) Speed - if we think you are not fast enough (<100mph on the straight etc.)
3) Accidents - what you do after having an accident or spinning.
Do not worry too much about this as it is very unlikely that you'll fail more than 1 category.

3) Accidents - what you do after having an accident or spinning.
Do not worry too much about this as it is very unlikely that you'll fail more than 1 category.

Most questions people will ask will probably be answered in some way in this thread.
The endurance race is totally seperate from the league standings.
The website is under construction but I encountered a set-back where every file apart from my error file was deleted so I'm about a couple of days behind what I should be. (Never mind the fact that it should have been done about 2 weeks ago if I'd been working hard on it :shy: )
EDIT: Just found out that the registration pages didn't get deleted. It's weird that some did and some didn't.
EDIT2: I've just finished the login page and made some adjustments to the register pages.

Move the 'May the best man win' up a bit to, it's too close to the edge. I can't give it 10 out of 10 because of that and the spelling mistake, but as faster can't read or spell it's hardly surprising he does.

No, they canīt. Allowing all three is the same as allowing only XRT. All cars should be used in the league.

Organised racing in the DEMO?
The thing that convinced me to buy the license was a few good organised events in the old s1 demo. I think it shows the game/sim/hobby in a whole new light rather than 5-10 lap free for all's! Everyone is entilted to there own opinion, but i think organised races, even in the demo, is a good thing.

 sori,my english is very bad.
i have an idear:
the demo has 3 cars and 4 tracks,so we can get 12 times to race! one weekend for hardtrack race, and another one for rally track race.if a racer just take part in one of hardtrack-race and rally race,he'll get 2 weeks time to practice for his race.with the 12 GP,we can hold on some special match(like the XRT drifting match,le-mans...ect.)to let the demo league more interesting.
then...we can make some mod of the track in 4 seasons in a year(spring.summer.fall.winter),and use different wheater in each GP, it will makes the demo league more interesting.
i think there will be some excellent demo racer produced by the league in the furture!

Hi,
First off, I'm really sorry about not posting for a couple of weeks, coursework and my other league got in the way. :(
Secondly, good news! I am going to upload the fully working website sometime today and I will apply for a sub-forum after that.
Thirdly, kinda bad news here, I cannot guarantee that I'll be able to make it to each race to watch over it so I need someone to hand those duties to. I will PM someone who has been involved in the setting up of the league and see if they would like to do it but I am willing to accept applications by PM.
And lastly, the first race will be on BLGP Reverse with the XFG and it will be run either on the 11th June or the 18th June. :)

because the league wants let the BEST DRIVER to win,if allow team join, the "2nd driver" in the team(like Barrichello in ferrari, fisichella in renault...) will let the other driver more slowly so that the "1st driver"(like MS in ferrari,Alonso in renault) easier to win.

maybe yes,
i think if the race start at 2:00 p.am,the country that in the east of UK will be 3:00 p.m(finland)~23:00 p.m(Japan),and the country that in the west of UK will be 2:00 p.m(maybe holland,spain)~9:00(USA),just sorry to the racers in Australia(because australia will be 01:00:schwitz:)
i'll bring many racers from eastern asia.so this time is the best way for everyone.i think

:schwitz: yeah...9:00 a.m is a little earlier to americans.but if the race start at 3:00(GMT),the time in China will be 23:00 and in Japan will be 0:00,it's too late..
i think the asian demo racer is more than american racer.and i'll bring many asian driver to join the league.
look here, there are 2 asian driver in the top 25.

Problem is, i cannot be there to moderate before 10:30-11:00am my time (us eastern) so it will have to start after that.

I am sorry to anyone who cannot join because of the time but there is nothing I can do apart from running more than one league, that may be a good idea for next season but not this one as we wouldn't have many racers in it.

Why not more? The league would go on forever like that. I think there should be atleast two events per month.

Surely a demo league with a prize of a full S2 license should only allow demo racers in, having people who already have an S2 license in takes that place and the chance of winning away from someone who needs it more. Isn't the point of a demo league to have demo racers in it?
And 1 event a month will make the league very long and slow 1 event a week is much better or at least 2 a month (1 every 2 weeks) and lets you run more seasons a year.
Plus if you ask people what day and time you'll never get a race day because everyone will want to race at different times and with different timezones as well it makes it more difficult.
This league has been "in the making" for ages now, crank this baby up and get it going. :thumb:
Good luck.

LoL.this is great!
iwant to in,but time is too late for me:scratchch
in china 11:00 i usually go to bed
the one part i fully agree is the date is all sat.
that im a student, can race only on fri. adn sat.

why we need 2 skins per car? i think 1 skin per car is better,we can identify and remenber each other better.
i agree with the race start at 3:00(GMT) in sunday, but the race must be finish less than 1 hour.And...we have to let the damage of lost connection to be lest!
there's an advice about the way to race:
2 race,one in saturday,one in sunday.both start at 3:00(GMT)
20 min qual before race,then..a race. the racer who didn't have time to race in sunday can race in saturday, and the racer who didn't have time to race in saturday can race in sunday...

ok,my new idear for the race is 2 races in a week(Saturday & Sunday),and each race will not more than 1 hour, if you can't join the sunday race, you can join the saturday race in 23:00, in sunday morning, you can sleep to 11:00 a.m

yes! i agree with you ! the rule can't for everybady.we have to say sorry(very very very) to many demo racers.
sorry to the racers who lived in Australia,Japan,Korea..
sorry to the racers who can't join in sunday morning in USA
sorry to the racers who ......................
In addition,i think the Helmet's skin is needed.it's a sign of a racer.
It's impossible to please everyone. A time must be set and those who can make it, great, for those who cant, im very sorry.

Exactly.Just fix a day...preferably sunday...coz all are free on Sundays. And fix a time too.And people who can't make it..try for the next race.
One more thing. One event per month is less..agreed.Two per month should be good. But please think before making ridiculous suggestions like 2 races per week (Saturday and Sunday).

Ok, the first race is set for Sunday 11th June at 3:00pm BST. That is 4:00pm CEST or 10:00am EDT. :)
th84 will be running this event so do as he says! :)
Remember there will be two races, the first will be a 10 lap sprint race with a ROLLING start, and a 20 lap feature race with a STANDING start + warmup lap.
Please remember to read the rules before the event. You'll find them on the website. Oh and one more thing, if th84 feels you deliberately made contact or made more than one blocking move on a straight then he will issue you with a warning. If it happens again he will exclude you from the race and you will be issued with 1 point. If, in the next race in that day, you get another exclusion, you will be banned from the next race meeting. If you gain 6 points you will be banned for the rest of the season. You may apply about any points but, if it is found to have been a mistake, you will not gain any positions from the race you were excluded from but you will lose that point from your record. If at any time you would like to find out how many points you have please PM me and I will look it up for you as quickly as I can. :)
I will add that to the rules now for future record.
If you have any problems please PM me. You will get the server details from th84 in a PM on Saturday. I hope you all have a good race and have fun! :)

I'm experimenting results board styles and i wonder if people could give feedback on this style i am working on. Each column will be a lap time and another column will be added on the left for final positions, but as i say i am still experimenting and just want to see what people think.
