View Full Version : Things that should NOT be in the game

I think this thread is a good idea, as it would give the devs a good idea of what NOT to put in the game.

My list:
- When an admin joins, a player gets kicked to make room for the admin
- Free roam
- Customizable cars (adding performance upgrades, bodykits etc.)
- Hear other peoples music

This is all i can think of for now. Im sure ill think of more later, and i will edit this post.

Anway, lets try to keep this thread on topic and not drift away from what we should be talking about ;).

Blasphemy. I see no reason why bikes shouldn't be included. It's merely yet another form of (legitimate) racing.

Fuzzy Dice
[...]Blah

I'll have to disagree with that one Tweak. It can be a form of g-force gauge :tilt:
Somehow when I picture a fuzzy dice in my mind it's always pink :p I'd want mine white.

For my own suggestion I'll add:
- Overly resource consuming physics engine
- Boats
- Fanboys

Tweaker

I knew someone would say that :)

Would be useful for that indeed, but it doesn't prove anything, PLUS fuzzy dice are so overused these days -- especially in muscle cars. Only a pimp or ballah can use one :p

A graphics engine more used by benchmarkers than players.

LFS certainly needs some gfx updates, but lets not go silly.

[LFSFAN:ON]I don't want to see more realism in LFS than what we have currently. If we get too real, it will be too hard to race. Ban realism, go beaming to pits[LFSFAN:OFF]

Errrrr...

IMO we do NOT need...

...lx8,lx10,lx12...
...more open wheelers
...supra, mistubishi,
...ah, let's make that all crappy ricers
...dammit, all real cars
...all options to pimp a car ridiculously (pre-fabricated vinyls, N2O, neons, spoiler kits etc)
...more tracks (already enough)
...more closed/private servers, everyone should be free to join a game, that's community imo.

Traction Control
ABS
Why? If LFS is to be a realistic simulator with realistic cars, then these two things should be included.

Okay, Traction control on the low powered shopping trolleys that don't need it anyway but manufacturers have to put it on for legislation and want to put it on to add to the features list. I hope the high powered cars, and ESPECIALLY the race cars don't get it. Ever. Even an F1 car - no one wants traction control in F1 in real life. As Scawen is making a virtual life (seems real enough to me), then we can make F1 as it should be - unmolested by sissy driver aids.

Hmm, what else don't we need?

- AI who aren't fun to race because they're too slow to be any competition, even in Pro mode, and even at the KY oval :)
- historic F1/sports cars (or at least cars that look and feel like them). No, wait, that's a cool idea! :D
- people not reading previous threads or doing forum searches and then making totally un-LFS suggestions that have been shot down already. But that's a human problem, not a game problem :tilt:

I'm undecided on bikes. I just don't see how you can properly simulate riding a bike when you're sitting in a chair steering with a wheel (or gamepad or mouse or keybd) ... but I'm not closed on the subject.

ndiw, I like wheel view. I have an old rig and having just the wheels there slightly improves my frame rate - plus it makes every car feel like an open wheeler :)

To sum up, for a game that's stilll very early in development, LFS seems to have most of what it needs and not much of what it doesn't.

threads like these.. i mean alot of this stuff SHOULD be in LFS

ei: hyperactive.. whats LFS without fwd, rwd, and awd cars..? what does that leave? right hand drive!?!?!

Boats, aeroplanes, tanks, helicopters... ;)

Nah, I just can't understand why would we want karts. They would be even twitchier that LX6 with 12 litre turbo engine. And the smaller karts have only rear brakes...omg

first of all, the names should be changed because the XFG, FG8, XGT...
are not good names for cars. shortforms should be avoided in terms of usability, that*s a general rule. why not giving them names like: Baracuda, and dthe GT version Baracuda GT or so. Anamil names are mostly not under any copyright or trademark.

the other thing is: bendable glass :) i know its difficult for programming, but why is the frontwindow bendable when the car crashs :) it should split or so, but not bend :)

the third thing: when cars crash or hit walls ect. they start flying 50m in the air and land somewhere 200m away. that is not realistic, and on top of that, it can influence other cars by falling down on them even when they are 100m away. i know this thing is fun, but should be choosable by the server host, if there is realistic crashing or the style it is now...

Things that shouldn't be in LFS

- Drifters
- Driver aids
- Mechanical birds flying wildly out of control across the race track
- People under 13.
- Annoying DING sound when some one types a message
- NFSU type car mods

- Annoying DING sound when some one types a message

Go to your lfs\data\audio directory and move message.raw and sys_message.raw to somewhere else :)

I really see no need for karts, IMO there's a huge gap in the sim-racing market for historic racing, seeing as there's plenty of competition (GTR, rFactor, Fir$t) with GT type cars, with maybe a smallish mid-engined V8 (Ferrari 360 style) and a slightly bigger single seater (F3) then most of the current simulation market is done (assuming Nascar and GTP aren't going to be beaten by LFS anytime soon).

Isn't GT legends filling this gap?

If you can call using a canned physics engine "filling the gap", sure... :)

Hyperactive

Isn't GT legends filling this gap?

Well, if we think this "historic gap" we have several games and add-ons that go along with the historic theme: (I don't think they are simulators, but...)

Mods for EA's F1 (many many):
- old formulas 70's and 80's and early 90's
- old prototypes like Prototype-C / SP1
- BTCC 93 - 94

F1:
- GPL and mods

Rally
- Rally trophy

GTRs
- GT legends

---
More things I don't want to see in LFS:
- new car classes nobody wants to drive online = LX8
- car tuning
- electronics like TCS, ABS, ESP
-those ridiculous exhaust pipes in FZ5. like beer cans, lol omg lmao rofl

I wasn't counting Nascar Heat, SCGT, and F1C mods as they are all lacking in a decent physics engine, these are all so disapointing when you actually drive them.

I hadn't counted GTL as I was thinking about racing cars.

things i dont want to see. . .

well alot have been said.
i dont want to see:
LX4 or LX6 nobody really drives them..then again i could be wrong.
Trucks. . .nascar has that covered.
Bikes(not that i dont like bikes, but just because i use a steering wheel haha. its hard to drive a bike with a wheel :-p)
people who are just ass'(haha but that cant be fixed)
cell phone drivers
soccer moms
21' or higher wheels
and starbucks :)

U can get rid of the annoying ding sound by deleting the sound file that makes it, I did it in S1 and it worked fine but it sure was errie for awhile :D

There should be a "showoff" track and if you want neon lights or furry dice, you can add that and other things (hydraulics, ect...) (sorta like blackwood area that only allows ramps)

Uh, that was the complete opposite of what this thread was asking, almost a year old dig up, and NFSU2 is for what you just posted.

Thank you.:x

Yes, but Scawen remembered the most important part - the off button (though I actually leave it on and have a high limit, so it won't cut in unless I have a nervous twitch).

I'm pretty sure the S2000 only revs to 9k.

600cc 4-cylinder sportbikes, on the other hand, rev to over 16k.
