View Full Version : On what cars are the LFS PHYSICS based on?

http://en.lfsmanual.net/wiki/FAQ#On_what_cars_are_the_LFS_cars_based_on.3F

I've just read this section. It's good for car looking, but I think the more important are the physics!!

For example,
-RB4 is more a scooby than a celica if we consider physics
-FZ5: the engine position suit only for a porsche but not for the ferrari 550 nor 612.

What do you think about it?

The physics aren't based on anything, they are just what they are - a product of the car's attributes.

definetly a celica GT4
Max power 239bhp @ 6000rpm

As Android says, I don`t think the physics are based on anything, they are just... LFS physics, and they are not based on anything. It`s an attempt to get it as close as the real deal as possible, but I belive it`s not based on anything else.

What scooby means?

Scooby-Doo! The famous four-leg drive canine of Hanna-Barbera fame.

It's sort of a nickname for Subarus.

I think you missed the OP's point. I think he doesn't want to ask, but instead start a conversation. Something like the ones that have been ended up in LFSManual Wiki, but only physics-wise.

Based on the cars I've driven, I can only say that RB4 feels like Celica GT4, XFG like any mid to late 90's 'hot' hatch, and... well that's about all :)

No, it's a nickname for Imprezas.

I take great pleasure in confusing the brainless oafs that drive them when they tell me, proudly, they own a Scooby. I ask which one? They think for a few minutes, and tell me some silly code that means something if you are a geek. I then ask what model of Subaru. They tell me a Scooby. I re-state that we know he has a Subaru, but which one, then I'll list a few Subaru models to choose from, with Impreza last. Eventually he gives up, and starts thinking about pickles.

Teasing stupid people (4WD owners) is most amusing!

When I get asked what I drive I always say Impreza, never scooby.

Mind you scooby is not as annoying as the American subie saying imo...

PS '05' TYPE 'UK' WRX STI PPP (sometimes know as a model '9', 'blob eye'), you want chassis, engine code? :)

BTW 'STI' means subaru fettled, type 'UK' means crippled :), 'PPP' means uncrippled (by prodrive)

What the hell do roof scoops have to do with the nickname 'scooby?' And what is a 'hood roof scoop?'

WRXs are not a nickname for an Impreza, they are a further marker for a more specific 'model.'

Subaru Impreza, Impreza WRX And Impreza WRX STi.

I don't think it matters what RL car they are like:shrug:

The FZ5 behaves like a rear wheel drive, rear engine car, etc, etc. The cool thing is that you can really tell the difference between the cars. They all have their own characteristics that are a result of the design. Just like a real car.
In other sims, the cars all pretty much feel the same. The only difference is how fast you go down the straights and how much grip you have in the corners.

About the scooby, had heard.. But here, we usually call them surburu :D Because, and we understand that its a impreza :D
Well, I have tried the rb4 at friends house, since I wanted to know how a 4wd is in lfs :D And the rb4 reminds me of say 1997 impreza with atmospheric engine... I dont rember tough, was rb4 with turbo ? And it went sideays like a atmospheric subaru... But maybe celicas are like that in handling.. Dont know..
STi - subaru techinca international ^_^
Hmm, I too think that scooby is just commonly used and doesnt originate from the cars looks..

jempe
5th September 2007, 17:03
Well... I am not english. I thought you english spokers know the impreza as a scooby... In fact, in my country, the word scooby don't exist for this car...

I am confuse, I forgot that celica exist in a four whell drive version.:x

And last, I don't own a impreza, I only owned an opel speedster... Hmmm "mister I know the cars", maybe you know it as the vauxhall vx220 ... because you played it in Gran Tourismo 4 :D. I also own a BMW 325 e30 for drifting trackday. And that s all about my own little story.

When I speak about physic based on, I should ask: which cars are the most equal in physics.

For example when I say FZ5 is definitvly a porsche it's because of: rear whell drive, power, engin type and "engine behind rear wheels"

BlueFlame
5th September 2007, 17:05
-FZ5: the engine position suit only for a porsche but not for the ferrari 550 nor 612.

I think your wrong there, Porsche engines are in teh back, apart from the oddly crap 928, 968 and 944 which aren't popular enough to want to put into a game tbh.

jempe
5th September 2007, 17:13
PFfffrt, okay... a porsche 911 if you prefer... porsche watches and porsche hard drives exist too, but they are not similar to the fz5...

Nathan_French_14
5th September 2007, 17:22
yummy, opel speedster. The N/A versions are crap, but i once had a ride in a VXR220, omg what a ride! The car grips so bloody well!

Not as good as the exige mind :P Beautyful car

jempe
5th September 2007, 17:34
.... vx and vxr are similar in grip performance but vxr is equiped with better tires and wheels... Ne juge pas quand tu ne connais pas.

And about my cars physics comparison, someone can suggest something to compare XRT and XRG, Maybe BMW e30 for the weight and behaviour? I speak about this old car because 1100-1200 kg is light for a recent car.

the subaru impreza wrx sti came with a over scooped hood ( hood with tons of dips and cups on it :S )

hence the scooby part also people have a horriable of adding roofscoops
for " traction ".... whats so hard to understand ?

Are you kidding me? Roof scoops are NOT for traction. They do nothing to modify the handling of a car, short of adding slight drag and mass. Roof scoops are for delivering cooler air to the drivers, as it gets very hot inside of one of those cars, and the windows tend to stay up to keep dirt and debris out.

Hood scoops push air through the top-mounted intercoolers.

It's Scooby, not Scoopy. The name has jack to do with scoops.

And Scooby means SUBARU. Not Impreza. Scooby can be used to refer to anything from Legacies, Imprezas, etc.

gThis thread has gone way off topic, but I could feel my brain cells killing themselves off one after another with all the misinformation in here.

The engine in a 911 is in the back, it couldn't possible be equal to the FZ5, the 0-60 / 0-100 times ALONE would see a HUGE difference.

The FZ5 is rear engined, RWD  just look at the weight distrubution.

Weight dist:
38.0 F 62.0 R

http://www.lfs.net/?page=contents&car=fz50

No front engined RWD car has 62% of its weight at the back. And if it did, I wouldnt want to know what it looked like :x

and also not all impreza sti's came with roof scoops. only the light weight sti type RA's came with roof scoops.

:D roof scoops for down force! funiest thing ive heard for ages

Are you kidding me? Roof scoops are NOT for traction.

As absolutely horrible as his grammar is, I'm pretty sure theirishnoob put quotation marks around "traction" to suggest that it's a belief he doesn't hold himself.

Anyway, AndroidXP pretty much explained it already. The physics engine is designed to mimic car behaviour based on suspension type, chassis dimensions, weight distribution, etc. Whether the car is real or not shouldn't matter as long as everything works as it should.

gohfeld23
6th September 2007, 05:53
While the visual model is deceiving, the FZ5 is most likely a RR vehicle due to weight dist.
(as mentioned somewhere above). Another reason why people associate it with a Porsche is the flat 6 (aka boxer engine).
The look itself would also suggest a Porsche wanna-be, although rather a korean copy of it (sorry to all the korean people here).
The problem with the model is that the back is too low and flat to suggest RR (the long hood doesn't help either).

RB4 is a celica 4x4 almost spot on, and if I remember correctly, it used to have a bigger wing as well in the past making it a celica even moreso.

XRT looks and feels a bit like the Mk2 supras, yet a bit "heavier" (just feel wise).

LX's are seven.

UF1 is a morris or cooper or another car from that era.

All the other cars look simply as generic versions of their class without particulary focusing on one vehicle alone.

This all is obviously just my opinion as only Scavier know what they were thinking when they were making these.

/OFF
who in their right mind calls subies a "scooby", other than the moronic (pre)teenage boys and old farts driving nothing but american? I woudn't be cought dead calling a RS, a WRX or a STI anything but just that. To each his own, I guess

I'll take the 944 over any new Porsche out today. That car had class, power, and handling. Will it outrace some of the newer ones, nah...

Does it look damn nice when it tries? Your damned right.

I've NEVER driven a car that handled as good as the 944...to each his own, though.

Fabri91
6th September 2007, 18:13
Personally, i love the 911 because it's the only car with rear engine in production now.
Maybe the smart is rear (middle?) engined.

The FZ5 is rear engined, with that weight bias...

The 928 and 968 are also noteworthy cars. Great handling and underrated by a lot of people. The problem is the majority of the examples of those three models that I've seen have been neglected to the point it should be criminal.

Ben, stop trying to be clever. You just look an idiot.

BlueFlame

the FZ5 doesn't handle like a RR car. If its not FR then its MR... at besides, where does the engine go, if it is RR?

gohfeld23
15th September 2007, 22:36
MR vehicle don't have weight ratios like that. They also don't swing out like like that.
Once again, while the model doesn't look like it, FZ5 feels absolutly like a RR car and the weight ration hints at that even more.
If the car is a FR or MR, there's something really wrong with LFS.

I'd like to see what the devs have to say about it.. What are the chances though.
