View Full Version : LX8? canned?

I don't think the rallypack was actually 'canned', or at least by no means like the LX8 was, the LX8 was actually made, worked etc. It was just canned because of its extremities.
Rallypack Scavier stated would be made if they had time etc. (I believe), if not it was something along those lines, Scawen (or was it Victor?) kinda hinted at one, but nothing was official about actually making one 100%, they just made it sound like a little fun side thing they could've done just to keep stuff moving along.
Change of pace is always nice, hence why I never really finish many 3d models just because after a while it's the same tedius work over and over again.

Thank you :)
For you information I had "only" mentioned Rallypack / Rally Pack around 30+ times :shy:

Well put.
I think that the LX8 would be a hard, but fun car to race now. Sure, even with the physics updates it would be hard to controll, but at same time I would love to see such a car in the game, a real beast! I feel that there are no beats in LFS anymore, the LX6 is challenging enough with a hard setup, but that "beast" feeling is long gone.
Well, we'll see what comes with time, but I rest my case, the LX8 could prove some really intereting racing, and I am sure most people would apreciate it. Even tho we probally would get topics where whiners would scream and shout because the beast was not easy to handle, I think that is something we could handle.
Or?

Forget the LX8, lets get an Ariel Atom 500 V8 (http://www.arielatom.com/specs/atom-500-v8).
500 horsepower and 500 kilos! That's 100KG (220lb) LESS than an F1 car!

imo we need a big block heavy muscle car I think before anything else, all the cars in LFS are to similar.
The only heavy and not so nimble car we have is the FZ50, but even then it still fits in with the others, we need some old chevy or something.

Muscle cars are bad around tracks tho, and that is all LFS simulates really, if it's a muscle car, it should be a drag car.

I just think we need severely different handling cars, kinda like when the MRT was dropped in LFS it was totally different, the LXs are totally different, but all the middle cars are just.. typical not bad handling cars, they can take a beating and are slow enough you can recover quite easily.

The LX8 was not in any public version. It was in one of the "beta" testing versions, early S1 days I believe.

You can unlock it. You are mis-informed. The version with the LX8 in works perfectly. 0.5F is the version you need to find. You can unlock it though, I did, I just used my current username and password and it unlocked all cars as normal.

Not necessarily - It was replaced for S2 by the UFR, as the LX8 and XFR would be alone in their own classes. (See here) (http://www.lfs.net/?page=s2progress_3)

Errr why? While I agree that cracks for lfs should not be really mentioned, if you have already bought a licence there I don't see what the problem is. I remember admiting on here that I cracked lfs to play single player at uni because the uni pc's wouldn't connect to the master server to unlock (before anyone asks, I was already licenced at the time)
Leofred2000

Yea, agree there. I dont mind on how I can make it work, as long as it does.
If I can change the ip so it can connect or manipulate some files in the directory so it will be opened, it doesnt matter. But it would maybe be easier to change some ip, right...?
PM me for suggestions on how I can make it work, if this can cause disturbences on the forum.

You will need to cheat either way to use the LX8 and it is a PANTS car!
Just use tweak in single player mode and give the LX6 a V8 and AWD. Engine noises are much better in the later version of LFS.
Dont think tweak is illegal is it? It only works in single player mode

You can't make it have a V8 and why would you use AWD?! Moreso the LX8 GTR featured wider tyres than the LX6 plus they were slicks.

In the previous S2 patch or the one before it there is a tweak available to have either inline, flat, or V configurations, also options to add turbos and change turbo pressure. The same tweak also gives the option to use the slick tyres.
I use AWD sometmes on the LX6 because if you set the differentials up right it is a very fast car and alot of fun. Down to personal preference I guess.

Also I dont think the slick tyres could be applied to demo cars, but that doesnt bother me. I use Z28 now anyway so these mods are not available as of yet I dont think

Not true mate, i'll try and dig out the info on what tweaks I used. At one point I was using two different tweaks together but I cant remember what ones they were. I have quite a few on the pc so I will find out.
One was a very simple tweak with pre-made options and was mostly automated etc and the other was more crude that looked like it was made in excel or something. I stumbled across the options completely by accident

You will need to use an older version of S2. I have 100% definately used all road cars with slicks but it was only possible by using two different tweaks at the same time.
I will try and find out what tweaks I used, as I say, I dont use them anymore due to using Z28.

Well i think LX8 is a good idea. Would be simple do to. Tweak the engine, add a rollcage and a race interior(like on the XRR and XFR). But when they say its impossible to handle, then why not a 4WD conversion like the FXR has. Just my few ideas.

We realised that at some point we need to move onto the S3 license and it would be better for the community to be able to start using S3 content sooner rather than later. The current plan is to also include another car in the initial content of the S3 license.

Coding new tyre physics should apply to all cars that have tyres, correct me if I'm wrong.
I really wish they would recode the physics in my shoes, So painful! I mean rubber is rubber right? Devs? Help...

The right leagues and drivers provide a lot of fun in the LX cars. The LX8 would be great fun. Now, with the physics that are to come I hope the devs reconsider and release the LX8, I don't really understand the argument that it's too hard to drive..
I guess it's a excuse for something else, but it's more easy to blame others :)

That's like saying people who walk with a spring in their step are not walking properly, Drifting is a way to drive allowing the back end to slide, Just like racing is about getting the fastest laptime, They shoot for style, Not WRs.

I can't even drive the lx4, I take the lx6 for a ride every year because it has the best sounding engine by far (in lfs) and I would shreddddd the lx8's tyres to bits in 1 or 2 carefully driven corners.

It really is for me. Keyboard is physically impossible, and my MOMO wheel (I don't know if it wasn't set up correctly with the game or what) the slightest throttle movement would send the car spinning even if you're trying to go in a straight line or driving conservatively. Of course, that was only a test patch.

I drove the LX cars, hell, even the FO8 with keyboard back in time, it was a challenge from hell but fun too. The key to kontroll that beast with keyboard is a propper setups, both car setup and keyboard setup.
But ultimatelig it's tapping frenzy on the trottle and turn buttons :)

Yeah i remember being quite sucessfull back in my demo-days when i didnt have a wheel. That was when XRT was a demo car still, and me and my friend would kick ass against people using wheel.
So its possible yes... using a higher gear ratio helped me.

As i didnt crack my LFS i would know, i got the wheel a while before i decided to buy the game. And stuck with ever since.. i have tried the BF1 with mouse once and it was "do-able" thanks to antispin.

Biggest problem was that it had old tyre physics.. which were insanely hard with RWD cars (IMO).
I think I actually unlocked the leaked version with my S2 username (when it worked, before Master server change)... shocked that there were never any consequences.

I don't think you can drive an LX4/6, never mind LX8, over about 4 or 5/10ths with a keyboard. Unless you neuter it with a bunch of driving aids.

Compared to your time on a good wheel?
TehPaws3D
28th September 2010, 07:07
Well the difference is about 1 - 2 seconds off, But my wheel was about 74% faster than keyboard and 28% Faster than mouses.
Compared to other mouse users I'm slow, So I don't know.

How I see it: You can't drive an LX8 anywhere near full potential with a mouse or keyboard. If that's the criteria for adding it to public versions of LFS, I don't think it passes.
But I don't think that's what the criteria should be. If people are having fun with it, it should be in. The subtle factor IMO is that unless the new tire physics really have made it so much more accessible, the LX8 just won't be anything but a weird machine that only aliens can reliably do anything with. It seems like most people won't get the LX8 beyond what they could get from the LX6 (i.e. they'd end up with the same laptimes walking on eggs around corners with the LX8 and then powering down straights, as they would struggling to properly push the LX6 at 7-8/10ths around corners). The sticking point IMO is that regardless what I or others think, that seems to be below Scavier's standards.

Now what I think btw, LX8 GTR might be added back when new tyre physics will come... This is just my thought but if we really would have LX8 GTR back for 100% I am pretty much sure there will be LX multiclass racing :)
So, let's hope it will come back with tyre physics (new ones)

Hmm, not that our argument would make the slightest difference to what we do get (if anything), but I feel the exact opposite. We don't have enough tracks, and we certainly don't have enough considering how long we have had them. A new track would revive my interest for a while, whilst a new car on the same old circuits would only briefly interest me.

Taking the added weight and increased grip into consideration, I'm having a really hard time figuring out why would the little extra power make such a big difference. Maybe the tyre physics was really different at that time.

Hardly driveable, but a lot of fun. :D
Though I think most of the people just want the LX8 added to try it out, to see for themselves just how mental it is.
It's not like there's any car in the game to compare it to, which is probably also the reason it has been removed in the early stages.

Agreed & as Bob Smith told a while earlier, it can't be overpowered.
Anyway, it's not really hard to over-use it power (reminds Fisherman's adverts sometimes) if you drive it like LX4-6.

Guess I didn't explain myself clearly enough, I drove it with keyboard at the time, if only I still had the build of LFS on my computer, to properly try it out with a steering wheel. :(
All I know is, it was nearly impossible to drive using a keyboard. I guess not being able to feather the throttle had something to do with it.
Does anyone know if you can in fact still find the LFS build where the LX8 is included? I'm really quite interested in trying it now.

Keyboard, then it must have been a horror O_o
Also, the FO8 were a beast to drive before, but after the various patches it's now beeing a good racing car which isn't too difficoult to drive :)
