cP and Cyber both had disconnects. cP had a few, which probably hurt their chances for a podium.

Great race all, sadly marred by some connection issues and one huge server dump. :[

I'll be interested to see where Cyber and cP come out with their disconnects.

Great job to CD, who gave CoRe #2 a great run for the money.

One disaster after another, hit my team tonigth. E V E R Y T H I N G went wrong, from the start, and all 4 hours :(

My pc chrashed, i came back, then Teamspeak threw me off. We kindly borrowed from CP. But how do you start TS again, in the middleof the race. Then came safetycar and i minimized windows, and the screen turned black. I shutted Lfs down restarted TS and joined again.

Sighh. Did try to hunt some time back, but made to many mistakes :(

gearbox sounded like a popcorn machine, and i was slow, in my last stint. Got a lot of blue flags :(

The blue flags are why i write this. We slow racers shall follow rules, so the faster racers can pass safely. I recon there are no rules for the faster racers, as they drive like they have been drinking.

Not good enough faster racers. STAY IN THE RACELINE, so we know where you are, and only pass when its safe :)

I got hit time 2.31.55 by the raceleader, don`t know what lap, because I was way behind on the lap counter, but that doesn`t give the leaders special "bully" rigths :)

Some of the other "blueflaggers" also left the raceline, putting me in an difficult position. Where is he going, what do I do now !??

Blue flag is not a freeway for you fast ppl. It`s a warning, to me, to give you space to overhoal me - SAFELY !

Thanks for your comments and concerns. It can indeed get really hectic out there, especially when you're already frustrated or pissed off. People do need to remember to give each other room when passing and being passed.

The relevant rules, for a reminder:

8) Drivers must overtake in a safe and respectful manner. Drivers should have at least a half-car overlap on another car before committing to an overtaking maneuver. Cars ahead on corner exit are entitled to take the racing line, but only if cleanly ahead of the trailing car.
9) When being overtaken, a driver must give space to the attacking car in order to account for lag. Drivers must not defend by erratically weaving or otherwise excessively deviating from the standard racing line.
9.1) Drivers may make one (1) move off of the racing line and one (1) move back onto the racing line when defending a position.
9.2) When being lapped, a driver is expected to drive a normal racing line and avoid erratic movements that may confuse lapping drivers. If a driver wishes to pull over and slow to let the leader pass, this should be done on a long straight and done in such a manner that the intent is clear to the lapping driver. Under no circumstances should a driver being lapped slow excessively while entering or in the middle of a corner.
10) Drivers attempting to un-lap themselves must follow Rule #8. Leaders who are defending against a lapped car must follow Rules #9 and #9.1.

We had a very unlucky race - first cP#2 not being able to race because of hardware issues and 4 disconnects @ cP#1 - the last one just seconds after I crossed the line - I actually saw the "lag" message on every car before crossing it.. lol.

First disconnect didn't affect me much - I actually did better after it and I'm 99.9% sure I got back up to 3rd, but then BAM :|

Niki's disconnect cost us allot - there was confusion since he was still on TS but it was lagging. I wasn't sure if he would continue or what, so I just joined.. spend a bit time to see if he was there.. but meh.

I'm sure I've had less than 10 disconnects ever since I started with LFS. 5 of them during this race/evening. 2 during a danish event and rest during pick up races... more meh..

Oh well :P

Watch it from my perspective, I caught up an almost unbelievable ~5 car lengths on you under braking while already under maximum braking from my normal braking point. (AKA, nothing I could do except hope that I could still brake hard enough to avoid you while turning into the corner without understeering) Leaders have their own issues they deal with getting around traffic, it's not just on your end.

Wow... this should be an interesting one for timing and scoring to sort out. The tally:

CP disconected after 21 laps (S1 of L22 38mins in), 19 laps (S1 of lap 20 1:15), 11 laps (S1 of L12 1:38), and finished with 48 laps. Totalling 99 laps, the same as TDRT and LOTF cars.

Cyber had done a Full 31 Laps, then disconnected in the pit lane. They rejoined and did 70 laps.... 101 total?

That's actually more screwy, been trying to work it out considering where they could place. But as far as I can work out they're actually a lap off the lead lap. They did 30 laps (not 31), and then missed a lap under the safety car rejoining at the start of lap 32, but somehow ended up getting another 70 instead of 69. AKA, they did 100 total, but they should've only gotten 99 laps as far as I can tell, somehow the disconnect put them in a position to run one more lap than they should've. I could be wrong considering I can't figure out the exact mechanics behind why they got an extra lap, but this is what I've found so far.

/Edit - Durr, they basically partially unlapped themselves, not sure how that'll work out with trying to figure out exactly where they finished :P

/Edit - Doh, didn't know about that 50% rule, that probably puts them in 1st. :'( and probably congrats :P (Editing based on future posts is fun)

Looks right - should be 99 laps + 2 more or less full S1 sectors if they are counted in.

Our last disconnect cost us about 2 min 45 secs because I wasn't sure what was going on with Niki and therefor hesitated, but for too long.

Would have "gained" a lap (100 in total) if I had acted faster.

The way the rule reads:

15.1) If a team’s car has entered the second half of the track when its driver disconnects, the team is given credit for that lap. Conversely, if it has not yet entered the second half of the lap, the team is given credit for the previously completed lap.

You don't get credit for those first sectors, assuming you disconnected while still in the first sector. If you'd crossed the split line, you'd get credit for that lap.

It's sort of arbitrary, but you need to have rules for those occasions.

So this is what happened. I was on my 31. lap when I pitted in, just about to swap cars with scipy and then my PC decides to freeze. Dunno where the problem is even the mpr freezes my PC at the same place. But anyway, after that scipy started from the pits and did 70 laps. That one extra lap is obviously because he wasn't actually leading when the 3 hours was driven but in front of the "leader".

So if that 31. lap I did is not counted, then it feels like all the gods of the universe is giving me the finger. I mean, 10 seconds too soon. But if the well respected race marshalls actually see who deserves what, Cyber would have the same amount of laps than the leader. And the one extra lap proves we came through the checkered flag first.

First siLc wasn't showing up, then Zafar had million disconnects, so he said me to drive last hour and a half of race, but then after 11 laps when fuel just started to get lower and tires coming perfect something unbelievable happen. I lost internet connection to anything but TS, and soon after that i lost connection to TS too. My router worked as it should, my windows showing that they are connected to internet, but i couldn't open anything. I just one of those days that nothing goes right. All those practice was for nothing, and we won FE race with no practice. I just the way it is, God loves to play with us sometimes :)

You getting a disconnect during pitstop gives you and unfair advantage seeing that you dont have to loose ~45secs during this. Also scipy left the pitbox very dangerously almost taking subon out... IMO when you get a disconnect the race is over. Since this gives you a "free" pitstop. Anyway, it's all up to the marshalls.

mogster
19th August 2007, 11:26
If Subon was right behind scipy, there is now way we would have gained 45 seconds, because I pitted before CD. And because of the safety car there really wasn't no advantage. But we'll see...

scipy
19th August 2007, 11:41
yeh sorry about the pit exit, but when i saw mogster timed out i just reacted as quickly as possible.. and for all your calculations who won.. when the safety car came out, and u all went into pits, mogi was first, u all behind him.. and that's the way we exited the pits and got behind safety car.. so even tough the first hour didnt count, our car was still in front of everyone else.. and on restart i overtook core xrr and loft fzr.. and that's the way it stayed until the end.. so.. dunno where the problem is..

Aww.. When Niki disconnected he was ~20 meters from split line.

All of our disconnects were during S1 (conspiracy, I tell ya!) - would have been interesting if they occurred during the second one ;)

However I do hope our 99 laps + disconnects weighs more than 99 laps without any.

DeadWolfBones
19th August 2007, 15:50
CD and Cyber, trust us, we'll look very carefully into the chain of events.

ETA: Escort, you may feel that that's how it should be (disconnects should mean your race is over) but in IGTC as in all other endurance leagues in LFS, it's not how it is. Disconnects are an unfortunate fact of online gaming, but they shouldn't entirely ruin races as they are nearly always beyond the team's control.

I have not personally watch the replay but am going on what our driver said over ventrilo. Although he felt he got punted I'm going to watch the replay before doing any more than mentioning it. As has been said before, the front running cars tend to be very aggressive in passing especially for position. It's getting old FAST.

I'll post back after watching the replay. May have been just a racing thing in our case. Only one point of view as of now.

Forbin
19th August 2007, 16:52
I've reviewed the replay and the reason scipy got an extra lap was because he was ahead of rcpilot, whom LFS registered as being in first, and so the race did not end until rcpilot crossed the line. However, scipy crossed the line just a few seconds after the 4 hour mark, making his extra lap invalid. If he had not crossed the pit exit line, I would imagine that he would be declared the winner. As it stands now, he gets a 1 lap penalty. With these 2 factors combined, the cyber team's lap count drops to 99.

I've watched it a couple times. Didn't really like what I saw, or particularly the outcome for either car.

It seemed to have been a racing deal, and there was NO way anything malicious could have been meant from it (on your part).
