Hi all, noticed recently there are quite a few LFS racers in the community about my age - 33 but 32 next May :). Thought I'd start a thread to show the diversity of LFS racers.

Some come on, how old are you?

Why can't it happen at around 21/22. D: I don't want to grow older after that, as that's when your ment to be an adult. And I'm only 2 years away now (I r teh 19. 20 in Jan). Being old sucks. You are expected to take care off your own stuff. I want my mummy :(

Damn, didn't know there were so few youngsters playing LFS :DI think that's largely a result of the serious, mature nature of true simulations, the learning curve, and the equipment required to get the most out of it.

That said, I do think there are a lot of kids out there drifting (not to say all drifters are kids) who are not active on this forum.

35. If LFS had been around 20 years ago my chances of finishing high school would have been slim.

HAve to agree. I'm 32, and have been racing this thing for about a month, and already finding it hard to fit my 'chores' around it...all we had in my day (cue New World Anthem) was Elite, on an 8-bit computer, plugged into a black and white portable with no barely sound, and yet it SERIOUSLY affected my exam results. With LFS, I would have been touting the Big Issue by now. I feel sorry for the kids these days, how are you supposed to get down out of a fully functional racing car simulator to do your algebra? Forget it.
I'm 32. In real money. Exams were half my life ago. (YEEEEEEEEEES)
And I'm 33 in January. Capricorns rock racing sims.

I think you definitely look older than 20. When I saw you in the karting pics, the first thing that crossed my mind was 'He is much shorter than I'd imagined' :p and the second was 'I thought he was younger too'

LOL! That photo doesn't do me any justice, we were running out of room, so had to form another row. The trouble is the people behind me were standing and the people infront were kneeling, so I kind had to lower myself enough so that the people behind me were visible. I'm actually 6ft. :)

Although not a bad idea, i wonder if it isn't a bit late for that, will all these
people come back to vote you think ? Any one else feel the need for a poll ?
Oh, i could make a poll to see how many want a poll about this ! :D :pillepall

If there's a need, it's quite simple to add a poll btw. All hail Victor :yipee:
Else you can worship him, i reckon it charges his powers.

Scawen
21st November 2005, 12:40
Well, as Kid said, there was a poll on RSC some time ago.

But it's strange trying to decide between the two possibilities of :

(1) Which year were you born, and (2) How old are you.

Because, option 1 always stays "true" (because your birth-year doesn't change) so at first sight it seems like a better idea. But option 2 could be more useful because it kind of compensates for some people who stop playing LFS. For example, taking it to a silly extreme : option 1 that looks "true" at first, could look wrong in 300 years time, when the average LFS player would appear to be 150 years old, if you see what i mean. :D

Anyway i think the answer is yes it's too late now, for this time round. :)

marsden1002

Im 17 comming upto 18 in Feb

Julppu
21st November 2005, 12:53
Scawen has a point there, but also this kind of "statistic" is useful only for this timeframe (for example a year from now this data has only "historical" value). That kind of narrows the number '2' method out.. :scratchch

However, doesn't lfs-world hold (optional) date-of-birth -data? That could be used to view the age-structure...

But then again, what does it matter? Some are too young for irl driving license, some are way over the hill (and still not braking). This kind of age-of-players -representation tends to put an unnecessary label.

But heck, what do I know, I'm just a rookie  and these "polls" don't bother me.

Gonna go driving now...

Fonnybone
21st November 2005, 13:12
Well, what info would be usefull for you guys Scawen ? :scratchch

My 'problem' was deciding the choices. Should it be age groups ?
Or should every age possible be there (using age groups for the
younger and older than 16-35, example average) ?

Scawen
21st November 2005, 13:24
Well i think the best if we really want stats, would be what Jullpu suggested - if as many people as possible would enter their actual birth date on a LFS site somewhere, then Victor could generate nice graphs.

He could also limit it to people who have logged in within the last year or so, because there are loads of inactive users (e.g. around 10,000 S1 accounts).
