Hi
I'm curious. What would be the function of this database, AngryBullet?

If it is a searchable skin base i am for it because now its kind of a cluttered place here at forum. Would be nice to search on car colour etc. and a preview.

When I was still in demo I started a small project that would enable people to share skins and have them all located on a server to view/download/upload. Then I went ahead and purchased S2 and suddenly there was no need for it, perhaps you're trying to do what I started back then but through a website? If so don't bother because thankfully LFS handles it beautifully.
If its not the same thing then disregard my post :D

Well it handles downloading skins of your oppponents. But you just cant use those for yourself. And downloading skins that are public in an easy fashion would be of benefit maybe. Even more for S2 of course but also for demo. ESpecially since most of those skins will already be on LFSworld.

what? the only thing thats changed is the hi-res skins, and your not forced to pay for them. If you dont pay anything, nothing has changed.

Back in S1 times (LFS 0.3), there was a website called lfs-files (or was it lfs-skins). It was a nice gathering of quality skins, especially after they decided to apply some moderation so that the simplest (and dare I say, also the ugliest) skins weren't accepted. At that time there of course was no automatic skin download so the website served a purpose for those who didn't like seeing white cars.
Now, S2 with it's automatic download thingies, such a skin database would be useless in my opinion, at least in big scale (World Skin Database sounds like you aren't just gonna collect a few skins from your friends...). There's already the Master Skinnerz (http://www.master-skinnerz.com/) website with a lot of high quality skins, and on this very forum (http://www.lfsforum.net/forumdisplay.php?f=67) you can find a lot of skins as well.
What I mean is that S2 users already have their skin-thingies in order, if you want to start up a service for demo users then that's cool too, I just can't see the point in it :)
One thing that lfs-files brought up was skin stealing, people weren't respecting work done by others but just ripped quality skins and uploaded their own modifications to the site. I guess this still happens but there it was obvious. If you're gonna start a skin database, make sure you have a permission from the skin author to share their skins..
Good luck with whatever you decide to make, I hope I didn't gun down your plans completely :D

Okay, answering some questions.
How it would work.
Very simple, someone registers and upload their skin, it will be queued for approval of the website team.
If approved, then it will be moved for public viewing.
People will be able to vote the skins, report (if its a rip or something like), and there will be a top 15 skins.
Im thinking about enabling people to comment the skins...
Any suggestion?

It just seems pointless if you ask me, I don't think you'll have much success with it but I could be wrong.
