this thread is only for suggestions. Our shop will be payed for, therefore we achieve better service and lower prices for customers. Our shop has rights from the Devs to use the LFS logo and all the money from the shop will be pumped back into LFS in a number of different ways.

keep what to pms? my sugestions for people who wont see their motto/slogan win?

this thread is to be used by the users of this game.
i posted about the topic.
anyone here can use the lfs logo as they ****in want personally.
thats one of the options these shops give anyone the ability to, personal use.
anyone can grab their fave motto, without it needing to be approved by a 3rd entity and do their own stuff. thats what those links are about. DIY.
in fact your current shop is powered by one of those.
a couple dollars per month can turn ya free shop into a premium shop where prices will be lower etc. both cafepress and spreadshirt support that. if thats what you mean, anyone can do that also.
thats what my post was about, possibilities and options for everyone.
glad u got permission from devs to sell stuff , beyond the personal usage, and going commercial. again, anyone can attempt to get that.
you didnt even start and acting this way u seem afraid of competition?
the more shops the better if ask me.

and NO, NOT "ALL THE MONEY WILL BE PUMPED BACK INTO LFS". there is no harm in admiting it wont.

snewham
26th October 2005, 00:50
all the money will be, a percentage will be going to the Devs and the rest will be going towards paying for the LFS-Links website and also my racing team's website and servers which have proved to be useful to community on a large scale.

I'm not sure what your problem is? if you want to talk about it further please can you contact me on msn: scottnewham@hotmail.com

my prob is none. thats exactly what i told ya. i dont have a prob with u stating that you do a profit and apply it in whatever u want. people will feel free to believe you. just dont say "all money goes to lfs" coz it seems something else. no harm in saying its for ya server, ya computer your glasses your sister thats sick etc etc. where it goes? its all your right to apply it where u want. just please dont say it broadly goes to lfs. coz it might or not. its not a dedicated fixed amount. the percentage youll get off the profits can and i hope for you they will, exceed simple server rental cost.
in the end, people will have to trust you. stating things clearly , makes it easier for them.

snewham
26th October 2005, 01:10
I dont' understand what point you are trying to make. I am not trying to do this to get rich, not even to make any profit at all. i spend so much money on LFS related ventures every year that it would never cover the cost of everything.

I am trying to do something for the community as i have tried to do with many other of my ventures like my team, lfs-links website and other things that I have embarked on. When you try and make some kind of contribution to the community on that scale then your opinions about matters like this may be valid but for now, please keep them to yourself.

Admin please lock this thread.

To summarize, I think KiD just doesn't want to see the slogan he made up (NFS? SFTU! one I think it is) on LFS memorabilia... simple as that. And I can agree with him that it wouldn't be the best thing on a shirt.

Now... just ignore that slogan, and get on with it. Just don't use it. ;) You are getting deeper into it than KiD ever wanted too, and it is too late now, unless it can be ignored.

On with more slogans please! :D

KiDCoDEa
26th October 2005, 01:29
its not "for the community". if it was for community there would be no profits at all. when u do something for A you dont charge A.
when u sell something to A you charge A.
what you are doing, at best is, work for a profit that can cover your ventures to the community. also noble, but way less. if true. and i shall assume it is.
its a slightly different thing. both valid.
you are trying to make a profit else you wouldnt offer to share it. and whats wrong with that? nothing.
i just like things clear. especially when it involves money of others and a game reputation. and most especially since i have the racing legends shop and the dE experience...

speaking of shop is not something this forum should hide from and lock threads. people are burned from past experiences and deserve to be treated correctly.

i aint hunting anything, no need to be on defensive. i wish u all the luck and i hope u can buy whatever u need to be happy.

i sent a pm to him this morning telling him that if he wasn't happy with us using it then we wouldn't use it so I have already removed it from the shop however he keeps going on about this money issue. If you like I will make all profits from the shop every month public so that everyone can see where the money is going. I don't have anything to hide.

look man im not responsible for tweak posts.
i know u said "Basically i thought that this was a suggestion from you for LFs products and I understand now that obviously you do not want to contribute to the LFS community at all." and although very innacurate thats enuff for me. that thing is settled. took a while to respect my simple plea. i asked couple times or even three in thread and then in pm once. i dont wanna be involved in something i wasnt asked to in the first place. nor do i want to be offered profits percentages.
what im talking about in this new thread (you should rethink why oldone was deleted), is of common sense. i aint after you nor your profits. having the previous thread cleaned was a dialogued decision. you prolly dont know me, nor do you have to.
if you cant see, my posts in this thread are about options, do-it-yourself, respectability and expectations, all in the shop thematic.

I'd really rather not see any mentions of NFS -- or really any associations with it on a t-shirt or whatnot... doesn't really bring out the true description of what LFS is, and you are better off with using something else. The names are similar yes, but keeping them so closely focused by using those phrases is just a bad idea in my opinion. Good for a joke, but not a permanent 'advertisement' on clothing. The last thing we need is NFS noobs coming into LFS (sorry if there are any here, and I am sure there is)....

You guys could get a lot more creative than just using these NFS ones, come on now ;)

I like the "LFS, the online racing simulation". Please, no NFS related slogans for advert LFS.

And is KiD trying to say the products should be allmost free for the commynity? Thats mad, if you selling something there should be profit, common sense. And if there is going to be LFS mercendise bying that would support the devs. If you dont want devs make "profit" dont buy.

Scawen
26th October 2005, 09:11
And is KiD trying to say the products should be allmost free for the commynity? No. Just read his first post. He was just pointing out that anyone should feel free to do their own T-shirts as well. In later posts he said that he'd like it to be very clear, where the money goes, rather than just being told "it will all go into LFS". Remember there have been some quite bad shop experiences in recent times.

...And if there is going to be LFS mercendise bying that would support the devs. If you dont want devs make "profit" dont buy. Please don't anyone buy a T-shirt to support the devs. The only reason you should buy a T-shirt is because you like it and you think the price is right. The LFS developers have almost nothing to do with this, and will receive a tiny percentage of the cost of a T-shirt, because in fact, as i understand it, most of the cost will be to cover production. Of what remains (the profit) most will go to the 4Sight team and a small percentage of that profit comes to us.

The reason we asked for the small percentage is because we think that's simply the right thing to do, when our name is used to sell goods, and it sets the right precedent for the future, when more shops may sell LFS goods, perhaps with a higher profit margin, and the percentage becomes more significant.

Hyperactive
26th October 2005, 09:37
Sorry for asking stupid things but could you clarify what for the slogan is and where it will be used? On LFS site? 4sr site? LFS merchandise site? Are you going to set up a shop to sell LFS goodies? T-shirts? Is the shop going to be on it's own server or integrated in 4sr's site?

Sorry for not posting slogans :(

Blackout
26th October 2005, 09:49
Ok, one of hes post 37# just was confusing, maybe I misunderstood that. And I didnt mean people or I should or would buy shirts to support you (the devs). I assumed that it would support you. And if I am buying LFS stuff it only would because I like it, naturally.

snewham
26th October 2005, 10:00

shipping is calculated depending on where you live in the world. As the products are made in the US, it's around £2.00 GBP to ship within the US but still only £3.50 GBP to ship to the UK plus the same amount to ship to Australia

Bad bad bad bad bad, Promoting the product by way of putting down another one, very negative way of marketing, I know this is only meant to be a bit of fun, but this sort of "My sim's better than your Sim" stuff really sucks big time, in a sort of schoolboy manner. Please rethink! This approach is best avoided. Promote LFS by pushing the positive aspects!

I agree Al

I said it before, using anything with reference to, or association with Need for Speed is just not a good idea. You are better off catching them with a phrase like what we have all been coming up with Snewham, because the last thing you want to do is remind someone of a different game.

An example of this was when the Super Bowl aired a few years ago, there were a few commercials from Schick, a maker of razor blades for shaving. They were showing off their new '4 Blade Quattro' razor and with all the big wow and glamour of some of their commercials, there was one problem. After, when some surveys were put out, people had mistaken the commercials for the competitor's product... Gillette's Mach 3 razor.... even though it has 3 blades. Sales jumped for Gillette.

EDIT: Here is a quote about it:
It was the commercial for Schick’s new 4-bladed "Quattro" razor. 40% of those who remembered seeing it remembered it as a commercial for Gillette. Only 39% remembered it as a commercial for Schick. That was handy for Gillette, because they also ran a commercial on this year’s Super Bowl, but it looked and sounded like commercials they were running over a decade ago, and most viewers ignored it. In one sense, the Schick commercial did more for Gillette than their own Gillette commercial. The percent that noticed the Schick commercial and thought it was for Gillette was almost three times greater than the percent that noticed the Gillette commercial and knew it was for Gillette (23% vs. 8%). It shows quite dramatically, capturing attention is only the first step. (To be fair, shouldn’t Gillette be sending a check to Schick?)

It wasn't really a marketing blunder on Schick's part, but it was all because of what the viewers saw and what had instantly poped into their head when they saw some new product, such as this razor.

Secondly, that quote (above in Al's post) sounds more like some kind of detergent company trying to dominate with its superior 'color guard', but rather not mention the features of both products, instead just try to 'take the name'... So would you want Super Bleach from Company A? Or Super Duper Bleach from Company B? Think about it, name isn't everything, and with EA having the 'NFS' title, I highly doubt their marketing field will be shutout by these LFS t-shirts :).

Try and do something that doesn't associate with another brand/game, while instead... do something that subliminally makes a statement saying the game is an excellent simulation, without any mention of the competitors. Make something catchy, something that gets the attention. Even more so, if someone reads 'Live For Speed'... you ought to be pretty dumb to think that says 'Need For Speed' --- so the person seeing this game's name will ask himself "What is that?", and out of curiousity, possibly remember the URL. This is all an assumed sequence of events... but quite a few people here would rather not see some NFS-type shirt, so a different direction is best in my opinion.

Then again, I'd also like to have a few 'fun' t-shirts with some of these funny quotes people have thought of... and not just have t-shirts that are 'boastful' saying the simulation is better. :shy:

Also use the logo that has "Online Racing Simulator" below... so they get a better idea... while also reading the tagline.
I don't know why I am motivated to disagree so strongly with this slogan. But I am. I get a picture of a menu with little icons of Alonso and Raikonnen and you drag and drop them on a grid and click "Race!" and twenty minutes later you get a list of the finishing order.

LFS is online racing. Nothing about the racing is simulated. It's real. The cars and tracks are simulated. The physics. But the racing is racing. I actually race alot in real life. Skateboarding every weekend in the summer, and snowboarding in the winter. Karts when ever possible. I know the mindset, the preparation, the race face.... LFS online is racing. Period. Not simulation.

That being said, I can't believe it took so long to come up with "My other car is a ... " That is so brilliantly obvious. Every car junky that sees that on a bumper sticker is going straight to the website. Just park in the general parking lot at the historics at Laguna and watch the race fans become LFS converts. :)

Nothing about the racing is simulated. It's real.

And you contradicted yourself about the word simulation in that post, so I don't see what the problem is :) It is correct to call it that in every way, unless if you read it wrong, it's not Online-Racing Simulator, it would be Online Racing-Simulator. At least, that is how it should be interpreted. And calling it a simulator is correct in every aspect for what it represents -- except it doesn't cost thousands of dollars to operate and you don't need a big science lab/testing facility to try it ;) So that is the advantage of having a 'personal' simulation -- which is a trend slowly catching on in the gaming industry.

Nope, I tried, but still can't agree. It is an Online Racing-Simulator if you put more than one AI on the grid and watch them go. I don't see too much of that online. (We should set that up and place bets!) I'll go with Online Racing/Simulator any day. It's a matter of focus and leading the subconsious in advertising. This thing allows us to focus on the racing. The simulation is almost secondary. Now that's a simulation! (...and yes. banned on rsc is a merit, on my perspective and experience, its mostly an ethical "stubborness" on freedom of speech as a dude named mikkel could explain to you if he had the will, patience or time. its nothing you know about, so its hardly respectful to use that as something that gives you the right or authority to, speaking in everyones name, to ask for ban or whatever you really want.
you remind me of a jesuit priest but without the knowledge. casuistry is not really welcomed here.
your concern on my history is unhealthy, my thousand posts in rsc are not tristan like vaccum. To this day im proud of most of them, some are even up-to-date, and i can assure you, my history is not your teammember phlos history. since you proclaim to know mine im sure you know his.

Well being as you spammed my last thread on here and got it deleted and the fact that you are doing it again on a thread that was meant for suggestions.

I don't give a dam about what you do on the rest of the forum just steer clear of me ok?

1) the previous thread had 3 of my posts because you were thick enough to need them. they all said the same. if you understood what i wanted by the first post there would be no need for more. even by then pms were needed. you even tried to share profits with me. and then the thread got deleted to allow you to restart a shop thread with minimum embarassment. you know its kinda embarassing to start a shop with work done by someone else right? thats why it was deleted. to help you.

2) will do love. but it will make it a lot easier if it wasnt you that adressed me and intervened with "Totally un-called for. Please restrain from such insults." on an almost standard forum joke that wasnt even directed at you. no one was speaking to you. you understand to create a thread is not to own all the posts in them. much less gives you the right to insult and not get a reply. when you say im insulting someone when im just playing with him, as he aknowledge so well, its none of your ****in business and that indeed is insulting or at least teasing. so if you want me out of your way dont impose yourself to cross in mine. simple isnt it? it was your initiative, dont complain now.

Thanks Kid for insulting several people in one post. Yes, I do seem to post a lot. Some could be considered spam. In fact a lot of them probably are. But is that a crime? Is that bad mannered? No! Sometimes my posts add to a thread (even it's just me voicing my agreement with a ), sometimes I try to inject a bit of my humour into a thread, which I appreciate everyone will not always get. Sometimes I am tactless to forum newbies/noobs, and remind in a firm (bordering on rude, without being personal) way that there suggestion for [insert common suggestion here] has been suggestion millions of times before.

I don't go around TRYING to wind people up, posting indecent pictures of monkey porn, being rude, unreasonable etc.

Now, we've all got along swimmingly for several months here, and the only reason that appears to have changed is because it's your time of the month/you've run out of cigarettes/run out of prozac/been bullied at work and want to take it out on someone else in a text based forum where it's easy. look man, thats not what happened.
u said that in pm after 4 posts or whatever they were in the thread that got deleted. and dat was for 1st work/slogan u used without asking.
you said that u would stop using it, and yet you still opened a new thread with another slogan/work by me.
again i pointed ya and proved, just like in first thread, (in the first post of each) that it was work by someone else (me) and that i would thank u if u didnt use it. and yet you had to play the thick one for posts and posts pretending u didnt understand when u had done the exact same in the previous thread. meanwhile u repeatidly got ya 2 or 3 buddies to ask for ban along with yourself.
also in one of the threads u act like u own the fukin place and interrupt a conversation that wasnt even meant for you.

i hope he forgives me pasting his nice words, but here is the dude that "got laid", like me and so many others that dont mind a joke:

what is going on around here?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In a way I wanted to reply to the crap going on in there, but that thread really isn't the place, and you certainly don't need me going to bat for you. Plus, I feel I was out of place going off topic in a thread that didn't really have "the feel", you know?

Just for the record, and here's more opinion from me, there were a LOT of poeple out of line in that thread. You were one of the few who were NOT.

Ban KiDCoDEa. Yeah... there's an award winning idea. More opinion still: Without your contribution the informative content in the forum would drop by 30%.

he even aknowledged that in the thread. in fact he said something pertinent in his post about a motto and i could understand his valid point. other people got it. u and tristan didnt.
look man you can cook it as you want. u can drag and drag and rewrite the temporal events as u wish, so it suits you and your selfproclaimed hacking buddy from your team. your teamshop will open without using unauthorized free work, and that will only make it look better.
doing the right thing shouldnt have been so hard for you.
bottom line we arrive at a point where u say youll do what i requested so long ago. im done then.

The website has been postponed for a day due to the domain name problems.

Q: How do I copyright a name, title, slogan or logo?
A: Copyright does not protect names, titles, slogans, or short phrases

seriously, if somebody uses a slogan you thought up to put on T-shirt people might wear I would be HONORED, not outraged. Jeezus, talk about a "community" spirit here.

To be fair Kid, it's hardly made clear which 'work' is yours. It's not like there's a logo, or a ©Kid on any of them.

I'd never have known that Need for Speed one was 'by' you, not the other one in the pic with champ car skin (I forget what it was, memorable huh?).

Perhaps in future, rather than bursting into tears when someone uses 'your' 'work', and causes you to, basically, ruin 3 or 4 or 5 threads, you just make it a bit clearer (but unobtrusively so as not the ruin the art/image etc).

That way all of us are happy, and we all know where we stand.

Opera? bah crap :D
You have never programmed a website for it, have you? :P
For users, opera is nice, but for developers it's almost as silly as Netscape 4 :)

I have, but who cares about developers! The big crowd is the user, they gotta like it. (:

Update,

We are still trying to sort out our domain company to get their side sorted out but I estimate that they will have it done by wednesday at the latest but I have had their promises that they will fix the problem by tuesday.
