Yes, it was a good day, although I was mightly pissed off with coming last in the karting, never mind hey, TBH, I felt a bit out of place, it was a bit wierd being around all the people that you do know, but don't know, so it was a little uncomfortable.
That said, is was great to meet the devs, great guys.

I'll let you all guess who won the karting, it was a dead cert for them to win anyway.

Dan.

Hi guys,

Just managed to find a train to take me home lol. Managed to find a floor to sleep on at around 3 am lol but you'll here about that later lol.

Everyone had a great time I think. Like Dan said, if you know people in game then it is a bit uncomfortable meeting them in real life but everyone was getting on with eachother as we got into the event more.

The Devs were really great people and were very keen to talk to us and try to meet some of the people who have benefitted for their last 4-5 years of work and it was nice for us to meet the people who have brought all of us together. We only have them to owe for that.

I'm sure you're dying for the results so here's the ones that I can remember:

P1. 4Sight Racing #1
P2. Triple 7 Racing
P3. Team Devs
P4. 4Sight Racing #2
P5. vMax Racing Team

that's all I can remember for now but I'm sure people will put the full results later. My photo's will be online tonight as well ;)

P6. Me! :D (and someone else...)

Yeah. Was a good day. What time did everyone leave the IBIS?

Can't wait for photos/footage.

snewham
23rd October 2005, 11:43
lol only 1 or 2 yellow flags and the whole 1 1/2 hour event. basically was conducted very well, racers were clean and very fast.

Three Jump nearly broke the track record with a time of 26:98 and the record being 26:84.

Will Dendy got a best time of 27:2 and the owners said that we were the fastest and cleanest group of people that they've ever had there which was nice :D

everyone left about 1:15

Me, Tristan and Will Dendy went back to Shifty's house as he said that we could sleep there. So we spent 30 mins walking there and he wasn't there when we arrived. We called him about 10 times and waited around for about 20 minutes.

Eventually we had to call (and wake up) fordy and ask him if he had any space on his floor, about 1:45 now, so then we walk all the way to their hotel which took about 40 mins.

Then they had all of the gates locked round the back as we hadn't payed for a room and we had to sneak in so we didn't have to pay.

So we decided to climb a 7 foot wall to get into the hotel. Eventually we all managed to climb up on the wall and fall down to the other side.

We then crept through the courtyard at about 3 am now and into fordys room, grabbed a pillow and went to sleep lol!

Great Fun!!!

:D

haha, I heard about this at breakfast.
Do you realise I was in the same hotel with a spare bed in my room?

It was great to meet you all, I personally had a great time karting and drinking with you. The devs are the nicest chaps you could wish to meet :)
The demo Cyber Seat was interesting (motion simulator)

Was really good.

Me and Stoney left the Ibis at about midnight. and Bob, the other driver was Widdowmaker.

It was really nice to meet everybody in peron.. weird. but nice.. i noticed there was alot more talking AFTER the karting than before.

Cyber seat was nice.. needs alot of work though.. need to at least get some force feedback on the wheel!!!

I heard about the "FUN" with the hotel wall this morning aswell. i hear there will also be a "PICTURE" too.

I like the fact that my team (me and P1lot, DE / ATC) came only 2nd Last to.. FORDMAN AND DAN!!!!
I also think that i should get an award for "most lapped person" (i hope i cleared the way well for all of you...)

The Devs were really nice guys. dunno why i gave victor a pound though.. hmm. oh well. Thanks for making the trip guys. Made it even better than it already was.

Some pictures will appear later. but right now i am only just home and am required to collapse.

Thanks for the lift Fordie, hope you fix your door so your wife does not have to climb through the window too LOL.

a VERY well organised and very succesful meet. Good to meat you all.

lol, sounds like you had an eventful night after we left scotty :D

Will / Fordie, well done on a ****ing excellant meet - it was amazing (despite being too scared to talk to Scawen or Victor properly :Looking_a)

Bob - thanks for the room for the night and putting up with me loud dribblin' ;)

Now, footage as I said last night I'm not guaranteeing the quality of it (I'm sure most of it was shit and wobbly, and I'm sorry for that :o), but hopefuly it should be good enough for whatever Tristan/Fordie/whoever wants to do with it. As for hosting it, I'm away from the house, work and possibly the intarweb completely (if the missus has her way) until Weds evening, but in the unlikely event of the footage needing somewhere to be hosted on before then feel free to text me (Tristan/Will has my number) and I'll get online somehow and sort some stuff out :)

Once again, it was a ****ing excellant time - nice to finally get some face time (that sounds horrific) with you guys :)

Same time next week? :D

Edit:
Cheers for the beer Scawen - but I was supposed to buy you guys at least one :o

Bob - thanks for the room for the night and putting up with me loud dribblin' ;)
/me makes weird loud dribbling noise :p

You found your way back to the town center then? It looked like you were walking the wrong way...

I hope Scawen enjoyed his grilling too, we could only hold off the LFS questions so long. :tilt: I forget to ask about the future of the LX8 though, so if you want to fill me in... :) Oh and cheers for the crisps, essential pub food there. I didn't drive anyone mad while eating my (gorgeous) steak did I? Or how about when I poured the meat juice all over my leg? :D

I never got around to speaking with Victor. Perhaps I was put off by his scary new haircut. Maybe next time.

Keep the photos coming  (my camera didn't want to work properly indoors).

talking of scars of battle, u should see the size of the (now popped) blisters on AndyC's hand, its scary lol. and my back hurts!

it was great to meet everyone, and at last i got the honor of buying the devs a drink! i bought a britvic for scawen who was driving, and a red bull for vic :D and what a nice guy scawen is, he offered to buy US all drinks :D

i think we are looking at next years event in either buckmore park in kent, or daytona in milton keynes, but lets leave that for a while shall we!

and thanks alot to TAA, who watched everyone else having the fun, while we sent him around the place filming it! you HAVE to drive next year :D

Just got in about 10 mins ago, finally!

Anyway, nice meeting you all and racing with you, its worth the blisters and bruises (i'll get some pics of those babies tommorow).

Had a great night aswell, the little adventure to find a room to sleep in sounds intresting.

But it was nice to put faces to names at last.

I just got in too (and plugged the computer in, although I haven't looked at the onboard footage yet).

I had a great time to be honest. Walking around trying to get everyone together (some managed it on their own, others needed rounding up from the Station etc). Then a bit of a chat, as everyone became more relaxed.

By the time we got the track we all seemed fairly friendly. Then a whisper started. Someone (I forget who) thought they'd seen Victor in a BMW (as a passanger). Oooooh, are the Devs here? 5 minutes later, they had arrived!!!

Most people, myself included, kept away from them for a bit, as Scawen has admitted to being 'Bloody Nervous' meeting us all. Gradually, we all started chatting to them - but not as 'The Devs', we all seemed to treat them (at the track) like any other LFS fan!!! It was a bit surreal.

Race was good. I have HUGE blisters on both hands, and one on my left foot (from walking later), and a large bruise on my right leg (from Sundays Karting with Will - I'm a sadist aren't I!). Didn't do much overtaking for position personally, it was mostly lapping, and moving over for 3J and Will.

Pub afterwards was great, until the world's shittest Irish band started playing at nearly 3000dB where we were sitting (until we were shooed away). Needless to say, we left to find other bars (Scotty and Will don't look 18, so kept getting kicked out). After a few drinks (!), Scotty, Will and I departed for Shifty's, and the rest you seem to know.

I've got a few pics. Will post in subseuent edits as I get them off the camera (which I've left in my glove box).

Thanks to everyone for a great day, not least Fordman (for most of the hard work), Will (for giving us the idea in the first place of going Karting), Scawen (for buying us a drink each), Victor (for being very friendly, although he did keep frowning at Scawen's lap times), Bob/Ben (for being surreal, and totally mad when drunk), TAA (for filming non-stop, and returned the signed abuse from me as I drove past), Flo (for being so incredibly polite - how many times do I need to ask if he wants a drink before he finally says yes), 3J (for being 3J, but that is also another story I'd imagine), and many many more. Thanks.

Oh, and Flo (is it Florian? I don't actually know how to spell your name!), I have you LFS T-Shirt thing - I'll post it to you at some point...

Pics to follow.

And why is everybody calling me "Bob/Ben". Just bloody pick one! :pillepall

Inspired by Senna's edit of Schiz's photo, I've attached two, one with online names, one with real names complete with yellow letting. If I've got any wrong feel free to correct me.

Yeah, had a really good time despite being unable to get into the karts (I got into the overalls, but not the kart so that's my goal for next year) :P

Woke up at 5.45 and prepared for the long haul drive up north. Met Bob and Tux at Haslemere station at 7 and 7.15 and for the first 30 mins there was a deathly awkward silence. Then suddenly, conversation broke out as we approached the M1.

Arrived at Quality Hotel at 9.10 and checked in. The rooms were pretty decent yet Tux had a lot to criticise :D (i.e. the muddy looking footprint and slightly messy floor.)

The trip to the pub was one of the highlights of the weekend as it took us what should take 10 mins to get to the track, 40. Each one of us had made a detour at somepoint in the journey! We then spotted the pub and I panicked and got stuck in a maze of estates right next to the Thomas A Beckett!

The morning session in the pub was nice as we met P1lot and Schiz before the main congregation arrived. Then as me and Bob headed to the track, we spotted the devs going in the opposite direction in their M3 and Bob said that they recognised him from his avatar (ah, the price of jpg stardom!)

After karting, me and Tux headed back to the hotel in the dark and got lost again! Nearly got onto M1 by mistake! We got back and collapsed at about 1130. Morning was alright with a good 8-hour rest before trip back which ended up with us going the wrong way on the London Orbital and quickly turning around at J22! Sigh, we all got our own kicks from this weekend and I thoroughly enjoyed! Great to meet you all :) and apologies if I didn't seem talkative in the evening, just tired and had a lot on my mind what with uni and all. *sigh* ^^

it was infact me, i did turn up, eventually, after getting seriously lost. it took me near 3 hours to get there...from cambridge, lol, i even rode down the right street 45 mins before i turned up, but oh well. it was a good day, although short for me, and the karting looked very proffesional, especially will and marks driver changes. would have been nice if my slr was working but oh well, it happens.

btw, you gotta admit, my bike does sound nice, lol.

Great weekend. Thanks to all that was there. Also, thanks to Scawen and Vic, for being more nervous than we was. Cougar for the awesome kit kar. TAA for my video.

And again, Tristan for producing the funnyiest moment of the weekend, yet again.

I won't go on, as most has been posted, but a couple of funniest moments for me:

In Race - Knowing will was behind me with helmet Cam, and me giving him the Bird

In Hotel - Will Tristan and scotty finally made it to our room. All was dark and slient, then Tristan pipped up, Good Night LFS World, the whole room errupted with Laugher.

In Hotel - Sneaking 5 guys out of a Hotel room

Well to be honest, there was to many, Will's face in the Kit Kar, as Cougar floored it, and lite up the rear wheels :D

Congrats to the Pro;s with Team Speak on Winning :D , yes they had there mobiles linked, to talk to each other.

Thanks to SC for the Beer :) and Nice car :smileypul

Well, thanks to absolutly everybody. Did I meantion Cyberseat testing :D

Glad everybody enjoyed it, now for some deserved rest.

Did I mention Cyberseat :ices_rofl

Best Wishes and Regards to all

What? You're spamming here with more senseless comments than me!!! I do wish you'd think before posting. Even my quick spams are thought out (though not necessarily well spelt today, as I'm running out of energy VERY quickly, after 150 odd karting laps, 1 sandwich, one SMALL pizza, 4 hours sleep, and 10 miles of walking).

Actually can I ask what am I looking at on Will's back (at least that's what I think it was)? And what other injuries have people sustained?

Personally I've a blister on each hand (with my reputation in these parts my friends will never believe the truth), a bruise on my hip and have had to mentally injure bad jokes and many witty comments throughout the evening. Those I gave them out as good as I got them. :)

And yeah, Scawen we've seen you posting on other things today, a nice summary of your Saturday would indeed be interesting. Vic too. :)

Edit: Oh and I forgot to mention, our hotel room was right down Scawen's street, the plumbing was borked. :D We had two hot taps (hot water + cool refreshing toothpaste = :S) and one COLD shower (or so TAA told me).

what u are looking at on my back is a bump, (cant remember what they were called) on my back, a product of the seat and the movement and it was about 1 inch out of my back, a bit graized, and quite red by the looks of it on that pic. worth it tho

no blisters, or sore arms, u light weights :p (joke i swear)

i would say andyC probably will be feeling the most pain today, he must have had a bad kart, and he used their yellow gloves, whereas scotty his teamie used some of mine. andy you scouse trooper :D

i just wanna say thanks to everyone who drove and spectated for coming, and drivers who all let me past when on track, and for fordman for swearing at me :D and had a good little race with 3J for the lead at 1 point, which was fun

it was great to see everyone was so aware of their surroundings, and what was happening on track, no one turned in on anyone, and only 2 yellow flags in 1.5 hours, wow!

Ahhhh now lmao.....

Ive just shown this to the loverly lady in the footage, not telling what it was before she saw it!!!!!!!!

We had a great day yesterday, going along to the meet was in the way of supporting Franky500, meeting some more members of the ATC and CRC teams The added bonus was meeting every one else as well. It was great to put faces to names, not just for me but Gill aswell... The music was damn loud in that place, just to cover the engine noise and I couldnt hear a damn thing most of the time, just nodding to encourage conversation, not wanting you to repeat yourselves too many times....

I was never supposed to race, but it was a nice suprise to have the opportunity. It was noticable on the day, there were all standards racing, at such a high quality, (I never expected Scawen to go that quick!!!) It wasnt hard to work out the track, and it was easy to loose pace if you got too slow in a corner.

Bob m8 - I hadnt a clue what stratergy you wanted to run, went for 15 minute stints and you left me out there for ages. My arms were so numb after the stint that I could not hold a bottle of drink, pins and needles in my hands, and nearly poured it down my chest, so I left you out a bit longer.....

It was great fun - And no - Im not allowed a Cyber Seat.....

Great day - Thanks

Ah man I just slept for 12 hours (the hotel bed Saturday night was like a rock and not brilliant for my bruised body). Good idea for splitting the thread Scawen. :thumb:

Bob m8 - I hadnt a clue what stratergy you wanted to run, went for 15 minute stints and you left me out there for ages. My arms were so numb after the stint that I could not hold a bottle of drink, pins and needles in my hands, and nearly poured it down my chest, so I left you out a bit longer.....
Well I timed my first stint and it was nearer to 20 mins, so I left you out for precisely 22mins each time (going on two stints each). It was difficult to communicate since one of us was always in the kart and with the helmet on you can't make conversation during switchovers. My second stint seemed to last about an hour, but I think was only 25mins (difficult to check your watch even on the straights... kept drifting into the barrier).

My hands weren't much better, I didn't wear gloves for the first run and my thumbs weren't happy about that (couldn't move them for 10 mins). The second time I tried the gloves, which did prevent the thumb aching, but since the inside was so worn it gave me two marvellous blisters which went down overnight tonight.

Did you disappear straight after the karting, I don't remember seeing you afterwards in the pub? Hope the drive home wasn't too painful. :)

tristancliffe
24th October 2005, 11:09
I don't remember seeing you afterwards in the pub?

Do you remember much from the pub(s)? Apart from a few blurry highlights like the bouncer nicking your pint, and the bartender who looked (according to you, Karl and Will) exactly like Victor.

Fordie

tristancliffe
24th October 2005, 15:00
Yes I have the helmet cam footage.

The good news is I recorded all of it!!!!! yayness
The bad news is the camera was severly affected by vibrations, range from reciever, and battery voltage.

So, I recorded just over an hour of footage. I can use about 20 minutes of footage. But most of it is out of the kart. I think I might have one or two complete laps (with only mild break-down during it), and clips of certain corners.

Obviously there's no need showing the same corners over and over again, so we're left with little usable interesting footage :(

Next year, I suggest we do some experiments. Mount the camera on rubber to damp vibrations. Ensure we get sufficient range on the camera to get the whole track. And record in such a way that we can adjust the tuning as we go - part of the problem was that after about 15 minutes of driving the tuning changed slighly, resulting in only static thereafter (obviously I reset the tuning between Will's stints).

So yeah. Send me footage, photos, ideas, and I'll try to knock out a film in the next day or two. Ideas include methods of showing the footage, music suggestions and the like.

Edit: 997 posts. 3 to go to 1000. Will I get there today (likely) or tomorrow (in which case I'll have to ignore your pleas for replies :P)

Got back late last night, about 350 miles driven in the company car, 45 mins of karting, and a tough day on Sunday as well, I slept for 12 hours straight last night :D

Great day, really good to meet you all.

Good racing with you Schiz, for a first time karting you did bloomin great, we all did I think. Dunno if you left me out for longer on my first stint, it felt like it, kept looking for the pit board ;)
I still hurt, I think we all have identical hunchback bruises, some worse than others looking at that pic.

Thanks to Fordman for organising it all, and everyone else for turning up and putting on a good show. I thoroughly enjoyed it

edit : for next time, I was thinking Birmingham wheels, not just because it is nearer to me :) , but its outdoor karting, 75mph twin engines :D Being heavier than the next driver makes less of a difference (apparently, Ive yet to go).
There is a hotel in stones throw of the track called F1 hotel or something, theres a big sign outside advertising rooms for £25 per night. Also plenty of pubs to choose from. just came back home (after staying at S's place until some hours ago so i didn't spent two days driving back ;) )

It was a very nice day that Fordy has setup and I was glad to have been there, meeting some of the faces behind the names we know.

It was great to see how really well everyone was racing. Fast and clean, just how we like it :)

I did get some tiny injuries; a swollen vertebrae like aerton, a slightly bruzed right hip and I think I've gripped the kart-wheel too tight and put too much pressure on some nerve in my right thumb-kushen which feels really odd still (kinda half-numb and stiff). But hey, it was fun :)

Looking forward to seeing the final assembled footage!

tristancliffe
24th October 2005, 22:49
Well, cough, there's been a bit of a problem with the footage cough.

Mine is as I said it was - not great, and not a lot of it. But Shaun is having problems getting the footage off of his camera (blame TAA). He thinks his hard drive is on the way out, so he's gonna try another one (probably nicking it from work), and then mail me a DVD with it on.

I'm not entirely sure why I've been put in charge of making the final vid, but so be it.

And this is my last post of the day (#999), so I WON'T have 'got to 1000 on Monday' like everyone said I would. Ha! How many people had bets for Tuesday

Victor - back and leg problems are normal. But nerve damage is a bit worrying! It's not bad I hope... At least you didn't end up with helmet-hair like Scawen did.

It's clearly late Will (and Tuesday, hence my 1000th post!), cos Fordman is sending ME a DVD. I'm happy to send you a copy when I get it, but it'd be even quicker if you get Shaun to send you it directly.

And Shaun's not dead either. Just his hard drive is mortally wounded (probably had a pic of Bob in the footage which his hard drive didn't like or something).

So not really paying much attention, I connected camara up, loaded Pinnacle, and done a transfer test ( Speed test of HD ) and it came back, Yes all is OK, you can transfer at 300mb per sec :really: Hmm thats not right.

Well is it sliced up? Nobody wants to watch something that just takes forever to get to a certain part :) (Because raw camera footage can be quite boring).

If not already, I would cut it up a bit to make a smaller size. And make two versions, high and low quality.

YAY, footage off Camara and now on PC. 1 Problem.........ITS 5GB :yikes:

stick it on a duel layer dvd :)

you shouldnt really want to try compress it because then we lose loads of quality on the 2nd compression

Fordman

Well is it sliced up? Nobody wants to watch something that just takes forever to get to a certain part :) (Because raw camera footage can be quite boring).

If not already, I would cut it up a bit to make a smaller size. And make two versions, high and low quality.

What is the total play length of 5GB?

Its raw Footage. I am sending it to Tristan to Cut / slice up. 5gb, is 22mins long. Its FULL DV Quality.

And don't have a DVD Burner

Use a bitrate calculator so that you don't waste any space on that CD! Probably best to aim for a couple of MB just to play safe. Files tend to be slightly oversized just when you don't want them to be (unless you use constant bitrate, but it's not the 90's anymore)

It could be useful to resize the image a bit, the video wouldn't need to be any larger than 640, that would help it compress better.

Depending on the grainyness of the image a noise filter could prove useful too. :)

Just reading through this thread, and noticed something very very important was missed, so I will fill you in.

After receiving various phone calls about Will, Tristan and Scotty being homeless, they made a move to my hotel. Now I will try my best to describe what can only be perceived as one of the funniest moments.

You know in scary movies, when people walk across gravel, you here a slow slow quick quick slow foot steps. Well Will done this. I was crying with laughter by the time. And then Will poked his head around the wall, like playing peek a boo. Another moment when I wished my camara battery was working.

Anyway, onto a little snippets.

1st - The Cyberseat (http://www.4sightracing.com/lfs_meet/Cyberseat.wmv)

2nd - A little snippet of the karting (http://www.4sightracing.com/lfs_meet/karts.avi). The start, and into the Famous Turn 1, and Will and Swifties pitstop stratagy :)

we were outside shifty's house, and we were talking about what to do. so then tristan said "we could see if fordman is still awake" so i said, "yea, i have his number" so i then preceeded to phone him.

tristan then said, "he will be pretty tired" so i quickly handed the phone over to tristan where he bluntly said to fordie "can we sleep on your floor" i cracked up laughing, and fordie was calling tristan various insults over the phone :D

ROFL great fun!

Just a tip - try de-interlacing the video. It will look better and compress better (so for the same bitrate, will look better still). Also means when I pause I should see something other than a load of lines (I can't work out which one is me!)

When we finally turned up at Fordies room, we all huddled in quietly. The lights were off, and we wanted to attract the least attention possible.

Suddenly, ThreeJump sat bolt upright, and I could just make out his eyes looking really wide (and possibly terrified) when he realised 3 extra guys were standing at the foot of his bed.
Then we turned the light on, and he went from being fairly scared (it could have been murderers) to absolutely f*****g petrified when he realised who it actually was!!!!

Again, I wish I had had a camera pointing at him at the precise moment, but alas it was not to be...

You didn't use those photos in the end then Mantis9?

I don't think much really happened after the karting, just chatting, drinking, eating, quizzing Scawen, more drinking, more chatting, walking between pubs, getting stopped by somebody in a car wanting to know where roadworks where, finding a Victor look-a-like behind a bar, walking to a hotel meeting a pint stealing bouncer on the way, and finally more chatting before people finally started to disperse. So no, not much. :)

Great video you guys are carrying a large amount of speed into certain corners!
Turn one is the most annoying corner i have never felt i have got that one perfect it always feels like i can take it faster.

and into the hairpin before the last two corners some hard braking and flicking there really shows it well with some great camera angles.

What sort of camera was that thing anyway?? just a really little camera or a really expensive little camera?

tristancliffe
3rd November 2005, 09:35
Just a little camera, screwed onto a small strip of steel, and screwed onto the plastic lip of Will's hat. I think it should have been mounted on rubber to damp vibrations, but we didn't know that until afterwards.

The first time we saw the camera output was at about 2pm, and it was perfect - but we were carrying the helmet, and it was only about 30ft from the receiver. On track, it was moving a lot, and at times went nearly 200ft from the receiver.

Next year we hope to spend a bit more on the camera, and have the reciever somewhere more central (or at least without any walls in the way).

Sorry

Don't say sorry, it was the best you could do. The quality's not a problem, you can still get the essence of Will's driving. I think everyone appreciates the effort that went in for the meet. It's great to see what's happened.

ayrton senna 87
3rd November 2005, 10:15
i would have mounted it on rubber but because of the weight of the camera (almost nothing) it would still vibrate, and wouldnt get damped atall. the only reason why there was the break up is because the computer was inside, and like tristan said 200m away from the furthest part of the circuit.

there were hardly any vibrations, simply i didnt think of getting tristan to put his comp in the pits :(

sorry! would have been good to have seen fordmans middle finger popping up when i was behind him :D

cool vid guys. It was indeed a great event and hope we could do another meet again perhaps....a bit more south perhaps? :P

tristancliffe
3rd November 2005, 16:26
I think there are currently 3 tracks on the shortlist for next year:

Whilton Mill: Only about 20 minutes from Northampton, so towards the middle ish of England. Nice track, competative prices apparently, and reasonable karts... Can see the whole track. Facilities not brilliant though... Need cars afterwards to get to nightlife...

Daytona, Milton Keynes: About half an hour from Northampton, slightly more southern. Great track layout, but the track itself is getting rough around the edges. Also, spectators can only see about 2 or 3 corners out of about 15, and they aren't especially exciting corners either. Very good 'conference' facilities. Easy to get to nightlife afterwards I think.

Buckmore Park, Kent: Near Dartford (Tunnel) and Brands Hatch. On a motorway, so not easy to walk to a pub afterwards, and we'd all need to get there via car (or possibly a bus?). Brilliant track, with Twin Engine prokarts (I forget what Daytona and Whilton offer), although the conference facilites aren't quite as good as Daytona. Also, it's stuck in the south east of England, so some people might have problems justifying the journey...

Can any one think of other, preferably outdoor, karting tracks that would be suitable? If so post suggestions, and a little description of why they might be a good bet.

ayrton senna 87
3rd November 2005, 16:33
dayona and whilton are twin engine karts aswell. daytona nor buckmore nor whilton have 'confrence' facilities like GP did (that we didnt use) but whilton and daytona have a bar and vending machines etc. the bar at whilton sells very cheap drink aswell. buckmore is the best track by far, but the fact that its miles from anywhere is kinda annoying...

obviously people will suggest places that are nearest to them, but we need to be fair :)

daytona is 210 for 2 hours
whilton is 160 for 2 hours
buckmore is 147 for 1.5 hours

dUmAsS
3rd November 2005, 17:00
whilton seems good. but how much of a drive is it to get to the nightlife?

ayrton senna 87
3rd November 2005, 17:17
theres a bar at the track which will be available until 1am and its very nice, in the style of an old mill (its in an old mill, hence whilton mill) which is a few metres from the track. its a great place to chat and play pool and sit outside/whatever. we can then go to northampton in a few taxi minibus things which is about £4 a peice last time i went. its not quite as good of a track as byckmore, but there arent many pubs in the middle of the motorway, and buckmore is a little more costly...

If so post suggestions, and a little description of why they might be a good bet.
there is one in hertford not a million miles away from me.. i will try and get up there in the next couple of months and check the place out. (never been there before but i know of it...) and i believe nightlife is a short walk away.

the one in milton keynes sounds good. would be far easier for me to get to (surprizingly..). i should also have a car by the next meet so i would not mind being a driver for some london (ish) area people. (assuming that the next one wont happen till atleast June / July)

Im trying to get a job at Wilton, the track is fun i know a couple of people who work there, the small track is a bit thin but a fast track it has some sceary corners on it!

I dont think its possible to arrange arrive and drive on the big track they have there, ive been on it twice when i got my licence its a fantastic track and a difficult one too.

haha like i said people will always go for the one most local (proved above). the only reason i decided to go to GP was because i thought the 1st meet would only be a few of us local lads...

BTW all i have looked into brummie wheels and red lodge, brummie was stupidly expensive (and its in birmingham) and red lodge dont have twin engined pro karts. thought of a track called 3 sisters in manchester (schiz wont have far to go :D) but its a little out of the way for most people to go, and the airports arent great around there i think. really we are looking at midlands/london outdoor tracks with twin engine karts...
