I'm starting to get upset by the situation in the Liveforspeed channell especialy by the permanent ban of 2 ppl who in my opinion did not deserve it, id like to make a sugestion to unban Vrooom and Zeeall and for the future for all permanent bans a poll should be organised in true demacratic fashion before any action is taken.

IRC channels don't work that way. Nothing on Internet does. Some people are (and will be) banned, some of the bans will be permanent (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/permanent) if they neglect warnings.

This is so true. Some people don't seem to realise that even this forum here
is not a democracy in any way. Of course, in the interest of the forum, or
chat# in that case, 'rules' are applied in the best interest of the group,
but whether that's fair or not is not usually up for discussion. There's no
people's court for banning.
What CAN be done in the event that a lot of people feel an unfair decision
was made is to send a polite and educated e-mail to the people concerned
(ideally as high as possible in the hierarchy) explaining the situation and
asking for the priviledge of access back for the unfairly judged users. It is
a priveledge, not a right after all.
See it this way, i'm throwing a party at my house. A lot of people come over,
we talk, bla bla bla, one guy goes too far and starts beeing a jerk, i'll tell
him to get the &#$@ out of my house and not come back unless he's civilised
again. Most people would. It's the same here, this is the dev's crib and
you're all invited :)

Fonnybone good point but they were not banned by the devs and that's where i'm trying to get at, permanent bans should only be made by devs not some mod, and like u said u would kick someone out until he behaved himslef well were are talking about permanent ban. And i personaly liked talking to them, i guess a temporary ban 1 month would have tought them a leson but not permanent wtf :really:

You say the devs should only be allowed to permanently ban someone, but you don't want people appointed by the devs as moderators to do it? The mods are simply enforcing the rules/wishes etc of the devs/owners of wherever.
I have no problem with any mods/admins, and as far as I can tell they do a difficult job very well. It's normally only the people who have been banned or know someone who has been banned that have a problem, and then only because they can't filter out their own feelings and think objectively.
Had to waste a whole post on this, as it's something I feel quite strongly about. If you don't like it, don't participate on the server/forum/chat-room. Simple.

Vrooom got a permanent ban quite some time ago, after a few shorter bans and a bunch of warnings. Permanent does indeed mean permanent, the ban wont be cleared when someone's hostmask changes.
I agree that IRC, due to it's nature, is offtopic most of the time. People who don't discuss LfS have no place on the channel though. #liveforspeed for LfS talk, some other channel for something else. That's my opinion, you can't argue that. What you can argue is if the whole channel should go unmoderated, only acting on severe GameSurge policy violations. But that's out of my hands.

People who don't discuss LfS have no place on the channel though.
That's pretty hard considering we hardly ever bring up LFS unless a patch comes out or someone mentions the usual stuff... It really is hard to avoid not talking about LFS because practically everyone in the channel knows about the game and what else is there to talk about? Which is why it is so boring and hardly anyone speaks. So I can't see why someone trying to brighten it up a bit by at least showing something relating to car/racing fans is so bad... even if it isn't LFS. That said, we are all car nuts in this channel most likely, and how harmful could it be to talk about cars or post funny links? If Vrooom and Zeeall get too excessive with posting links on their Minis or Volvos, then that is kind of repetitive, but I liked it when you gave them warnings of a ban if they ever constantly spoke of it again. The only thing is, if they did, a permanent ban was in store for them, which in my opinion is not needed for someone that talks... those are more for people that are spammers trying to sell alienwares, or people that try to send you viruses (Casse bans a lot of those) :). Overall... ban the trouble-makers, and these two don't seem to cause any trouble imo.

Both Vrooom and Zeeall had alot of warnings, temporary bans, second chances etc. before the permanent ban, its not like they got instabanned.
No one said bans need to be democratic, you break the rules you're not allowed to join for a while, you repeatedly break the rules you get a permanent ban.

Don, didn't you say that we should bring them back so the channel could be more active ? I assume you'd answer yes to this, since you woulnd't want to lie. With this in mind, why would you be miffed about people talking about other stuff ? It's not like LFS has any volvos or minis (granted, almost has a mini, but it sure as whipped cream wasn't the car vrooom was linking to). We have also speculated in getting some advert bots into the channel to keep it active. Something like Barbie(tm), Coca Cola(tm) and Cheese(tm) all keeping in line with the topic in the channel.
When all is said and done, Scoop is pretty far from the right person to make any kind of judgement on the actions taken by mods of #liveforspeed on gamesurge. Fonnybone, I want to carry your children...after torfinns
Vrooom, there are more channels where the people who didn't mind your linking, hang out. Since most of your llinking didn't involve lfs, you could simply join these channels and have a go. #teamnic would be one, but I'm sure there are lots of others.

I've been an IRCop for about 5 years now and I won't say if I agree or disagree with the #liveforspeed OPs ban decisions. The point is if I invite you to my house and you don't like the music I play or food I offer... feel free to leave. :) Nobody is making you stay there. It's their 'house' their rules. If you don't want to follow them then you deal with the decisions they make to have you leave. :)
If you think their rules are a bit 'harsh'... consider this. I've joined channels before where anyone can be banned for saying coffee, tea, or coke. ;)
Do I have anything against Vrooom or Zeeall... nope not at all, I think they're both very nice. :) It's not my house though and not my rules. :)

Agreed.
And/or spam is like I mentioned before, people trying to sell you Alienwares or get you to goto some site that gives you a virus :).
I don't see any problem with Don's rally pics or videos, something to look at  And not every link on the net to a picture or video is absolutely cool (like the stupid cars), so you can't make that a requirement in the channel :).

I remember some guy spamming a link to his webcam showing his cat sleeping on the couch... He posted the link every couple of minutes. It was pretty boring, all his cat did was sleep, we all thought it was dead :D
He never once got a warning for that (or so I assume, as he didn't stop posting it and wasn't banned). I posted a link once (whilst watching a "dead" cat) and it was the only link I've ever posted in that channel and got an instant threat of ban... Anywho, that was a year or so ago and I've never been in the channel since because it's as boring as watching a "dead" cat.
Edit: So yo can post links and still not be classed off topic, try this:
"I love LFS, the UF1000 is fun. Here's a link to my Mini."
Or
"Some cars in LFS are so slow, just like this Volvo in this link."
Not only are you on topic, but you comparing LFS to real life stuff which is what LFS is trying to simulate but in a fictional way ;) :p
Edit 2: And if you want to get real tricky, try this:
"I love the background imagines of the LFS tracks, heres a link to a mountain that looks similar."
or
"Smashed my RB4 up huge the other night on the Blackwood rally track, just like this rally car did in this link."

Don it wasn't and hour I kickbanned you for, it approx 5 minutes. You can discuss whatever you like from cameras to other aspects of LFS and non LFS and you have done so for a number of years. The reason why I briefly kick banned you was that I asked you to stop the conversation, as it was barely a discussion and more like a silly argument, you both kept using the same viewpoint over and not actually getting anywhere. I pm'd you just after I did this and you never replied Carporoxx.x.x.. whatsit did and he returned soon after I removed the ban (your bans where both removed at the same time). As I also said in PM it wasn't personal I just didnt want the only topic in the room being a silly argument that was drawing more people into either side for what I felt was nothing more than just trolling.
Now please don't be so melodramatic and say that you cannot say what you feel, just PM if you disagree with the KB. I can't recall the last time I kicked or banned anyone except for spammers. If I didn't believe I could talk about any aspect of the game or other items I wouldn't visit #liveforspeed.
