WARNING 1 : THIS IS A TEST

WARNING 2 : SOME SKINS ARE CONVERTED THE FIRST TIME YOU RUN THE TEST PATCH - IT CAN TAKE A FEW MINUTES

Hello Racers.

Here is a new test patch W35. It is incompatible with versions earlier than W34, so earlier test patch hosts should upgrade. Thank you! :)

Please see the list of changes below.

Here is some information about the major changes in this series of test patches :

- Preload added to clutch pack differentials improving handling
- The number of cars that can join a race has been increased to 32
- False starts are now possible (LFS does not hold you at the start line)
- Skin improvements including high resolution premium skin download service
- Global class balancing system (currently applied to GTR and TBO classes)
- A new version of InSim including many improvements and a button interface

There are various improvements related to skins including the option to download high resolution skins while online, for a small charge of £1 for 2000 downloads. The low resolution downloads are still free. We have to charge for the downloading of high resolution skins because of the increased bandwidth and the need to buy and maintain more internet servers for LFS online usage which is always increasing. Please note, we are not selling skins. The skins remain the property of their owners. Your copy is a high resolution compressed version of the original. This is a charge purely for the downloading service which allows you to see other cars' skins in higher resolution.

Downloaded skins are now always saved and shown in compressed form. The original jpg is not saved on other computers. This allows the best use of memory and the quickest load from disk.

To use your own jpg skins, or to view skins that you manually download, save them into your skins folder - you will then find them selectable in game, just as before. You can see your manually downloaded skins compressed or not compressed according to the option for local skins. There are now 4 skins folders but you can ignore them all, just forget about them and just use the skins folder as usual.

skins : you save jpg skins that you want to select in game
skins_dds : lfs uses this to store dds (compressed) versions of your local skins
skins_x : lfs stores automatically downloaded low res skins
skins_y : lfs stores automatically downloaded high res skins

If you want to use this service, you can make a payment at www.lfsworld.net or at the main site http://www.lfs.net/?page=shop

To deal with the increased memory usage, there is also a skin purging system which removes unneeded skins from your graphics card memory, some time after they were last used. You can see the list of skins in use in the Misc Options screen. White means the skin is actually in use. Black means it was recently used and is hanging around a while in case it is used again (to avoid a disc access). In the past, LFS just left all skins in memory until you changed track or weather.

Hi, the text of Hotkeys in the ESC menu has the same colour slider than the rest of the menu (Text Unselected). If I want to change only the colour of the hotkeys I end up with all the menu changed :(

This pic is from demo, but in FZR you nearly cant see any Hotkey if colour is black

This doesn't concern you unless you are writing program to parse .mpr files. Previously times in MPR header were MSHT I think.

Thanks for new test patch, its great.
I have a problem with LFS and I know some other people do to.
Say 1/5 times I connect to a server I get a black screen, I would like to know why this happens.
Cheers.

Hi,

i have since w32 big lag problems :( . But my ping is <100 . This happens on each server. See replay.

Thx for help!

EDIT:

Sorry! i think i found a solution, it was my firewall (kaspersky internet security on vista home prem, 32bit)

When you are in the pits, making a pitstop, and get a drive through penalty, you are stuck forever as your pitstop doesnt end. This was seen in the 24h race. The penalties were given by admins with /p_dt username.

Found a bug. Dont know if its a re-occurring one. See attached pic. It is in race mode but still thinks its in practice and thus no AI availabla. I have done a pratice before, but even on another track. Same car though. Also LFS has been closed before, so its a new session.

SpikeyMarcoD, I think that's because now practice starts from the
pits and so the AI will be available only in race... nvm if that's not the case :x

The point is, in the screenshot neither practise nor qualify are selected, and it still doesn't allow to add AI ;)

SpikeyMarcoD

And another one. Doing some singleplayer to get used to new cars :) Its more an inconvenience actually. Before if i pressed one a replay ran LFS changed to camera/tv mode. And if i pressed SHIFT R for a restart the view came back to in car. Now it needs a manual V to correct. So if its supposed to OK but i think its a slip that somehow got intoduced?

EDIT: cant seem to reproduce so maybe i did something wrong?

That errormessage is missing if oyu start a multiplayer race with compulsatory pit stop and AI drivers.

Just racing on W34 - Dead Men rRacing server.

I joined the server on lap 2. Was running 20 lengths infront of the lead pack - Just dropping in and out of the blue flag region for 2 laps - but entering the final straight - I took to the pits for a compulsary pitstop. (also to clear out of way of leaders). Leader then chose to pit behind me.

I had blue flags going into the pits. On leaving I still left infront of the leader - only about 10 car lengths - but didnt get blue flags till after the chicane and heading up the hill to the hairpin (AH National Rev).

Should have had blue flags on leaving pits immediatly.

Didnt get a replay as I disconned just after the race finished (totally unexpectedly)

One of the chaps has saved the replay - hopefully it shows.

Would be nice if results are saved on LFS world. Did some of them today on test patch. If i do them on regular LFS they are still shown as not completed. So test scores would not be lost with reinstall/patch.

Just some extra for the never ending list :). Wrong topic i know, but since its related to this bugreport.

Thanks all for the testing. Most of the few bugs reported sound like they will be reproducable - not too worrying.

Would I just need to run a dedi for a while, or do I need to join and leave? Any ideas on the simplest way to make this happen? If I can make it happen easily then I'll be able to see what's up in the debugger.

I found a bug, I'm not sure how easily it can be reproduced, but I just happened to be messing with the AI, and I discovered in the XRR that if they do not get boost up high enough, the hand brake holds them at the start.

Guessing this has been a problem since false starts, not sure if it has been reported or not.

Watch the periwinkle AI 2nd to last. (it also occurs to the red AI infront of me but I hit it)

I'm wondering how the timing for the lights works, because on occasion I've seen one (sometimes 2) cars make unfathomably good starts without penalty, and the rest of the field get away as per usual. Unfortunately the start "lag/stutter" makes it impossible to tell whether they just pre-empted it and guessed spot on or the rest of the field just made an equally crappy start, or the fast started saw a green light sooner than others did.

Do you mean into the dedicated server window or logged in at the server as a host? I can not try typing messages or commands directly into the dedi because my servers are /dedicated=invisible (linux). I've obviously tried reproducing the bug logged in as an admin but it seemed to be working fine. The servers have been online since W34 was released and there has been some activity throughout the evening ...

Well - there is the theory that you can still "count off" the lights. For example - if you gauge the timing between the red lights coming on - and continue the count - you can almost exactly predict the green.

The randomness of the timing on the greens is not great enough.

This theory is trying to be proved now on the server.

There has to be some activity before this happens. Today it was running for few hours, max 3 people connected & there were few races. And I've noticed this bug quite few times already, since W26 I think.

Guess I test this some more tomorrow to find easy way to reproduce.

And yes, this is directly with dedi server, not when connected as admin.

This MPR was taken last night in W33. I just viewed it in W34 and, well, you'll see... some very weird stuff going on. I don't really know how to describe it.

edit: I just realized (part of) what's wrong with it... the MPR was taken at AS North, but the replay appears to be attempting to display it on AS Cadet.

Did some testing for that dedi text entry bug. It seems to be somewhat random, but most of the time appears as follows:

start dedi
connect
join
start race
(perhaps drive few metres...)
leave

Now commands entered into dedi are ignored, but just noticed that after some tries this bug can go away. That is, it may ignore 1 line, 20 lines or more but then suddenly starts working again.

Hi Scawen, this has been going on for sometime on my servers both patch W and the test patches. It normally happens after the server has been up for a few hours. A few times it has happened after you type a msg then straight away type another only to have nothing happen. I'm not sure if it's because i run teamspeak aswell and my push to talk button is the delete key and I sometimes use it while the lfs server is the current window.
It seems that if I connect to the server and enter a few admin commands it will start working again.
But it's hard to make it happen all the time so good luck trying to find the cause.

I have also had this problem with the [MPR] server. It has been around for a while as ninja stated. Funny thing is that for me admin commands seem to work. Just no chatting. I haven't really had time to look into it and just ignored it because we dont really log in to the dedi too much because it runs through a VNC server to access. Also If we do we just use admin commands.

It was an unnecessary anti-message-spam timer which was not reset correctly when the game timer was adjusted after the last player left. I've simply removed this antispam timer, it's not needed on a dedicated host.

Sound familiar? I have an ATI card XT 850 pro just for reference.

Do you have FRAPS installed by any chance? F9 is the default video capture key, that would slow down as you described.

Sorry if I'm asking somthing that was solved in another thread but I couldn't find how to get the best laps of drivers currently racing.

Before the new patches they were shown beneath the race time and the current lap time. When spectating or during training I used to check the best lap times of the other competitors. But how do I get that information now?

If this question was solved in another posting I'm sorry.

Just joined a server that was patched to 35. No one was on there at the moment but within seconds others joined. Everyone was on ventrilo at that moment and I verified who was there but the list with joined players didn't show up. So I could only see tthe players that actualy joined the race. AFter the racers that joined the race had readied and qualy started, it looked all fine but something is wrong with the entry screen.

The players were mixed 34/35 patched and no consistency there.

Quickly skimmed the messages here to see wether it was already posted. Sorry if I missed it.

Seems to be ok for other tracks so far... gonna test a bit more-->

EDIT: Seems there is a layout pre-installed here?

Just joined a server that was patched to 35. No one was on there at the moment but within seconds others joined. Everyone was on ventrilo at that moment and I verified who was there but the list with joined players didn't show up. So I could only see tthe players that actualy joined the race. AFter the racers that joined the race had readied and qualy started, it looked all fine but something is wrong with the entry screen. Thanks, that is the first report of that.

It's new in W35, just a small mistake I made today. Now fixed in my version.

EDIT: Seems there is a layout pre-installed here? That message should only be the case if you have an autocross start position. Not just a layout with some objects lying around, but a real autocross layout.

I'm sorry, it seems this was a layout that had been installed on our server some patches ago!
/axclear did the trick

No bug! :)

This (bug?) was always in lfs as it seems, but became more obvious after w33 - "First lap time of qualifying or practice is not displayed". On reverse configs practice lap timing never began on the first lap(unlike on normal configs). Now on your outlap from the pits it says "1" and starts timing on the second lap on normal configs, but on reversed ones the outlap from pits is "nothing" or "0th" lap, then the second lap is 1st and only on the 3rd the clock starts :scratchch
(it happens because "1" lap starts only when the car crosses s/f line while driving through the pitlane, but that depends on the position of the starting garage relative to the s/f line - is the garage before or after it)

p.s. sorry if it is supposed to be so... :shy:

Like the new patch.
Milisecond qualifying was meant to be in W34 I have seen none offline and online, would this have something to do with LFS World?
Thanks HogaMan.

hello, i got 2 things circling...

1 i got that laptime twice today (while online racing), and once yesterday...(see pic)
2 is it normal that i need to set handicap weight to one and then to zero to eliminate any handicaps from a setup?
because i carried 20kg in the xrt-bl-forward set, did some testing, but couldn't get rid of it anymore, till today...

that's it...

I think I found a bug. I was practicing XFG on Blackwood GP and I hit some barrier went straight on a roof and the car reset it's self like everything was normal without any damage and i got a message similiar to Blue flags etc that says "Retired". Maybe its a bug and maybe not :).

One more thing also on Blackwood track. There is like a hole on blue and white fence you can see it clearly and go trough with a small car like XFG. Is it there to leave pits easier or what??? :tilt:

Cheers

Attached picture and mpr file with the car reset.
Sorry if you already know about this just trying to help ;).

it's W34 btw.

edit: I just saw that hostname disappeared from connection list next to my name. It happened on my online server aswell. Added picture sss.

Almost 0 percent suspension damage with front hit at 180Km/h?
Quite strange to me.Please check the replay at the end and check suspension damage after the hit.

Thanks HogaMan.No, timing is still done in hundredths, I just changed a file format to use milliseconds instead of M,S,H,T.

1 i got that laptime twice today (while online racing), and once yesterday...(see pic)
2 is it normal that i need to set handicap weight to one and then to zero to eliminate any handicaps from a setup?
because i carried 20kg in the xrt-bl-forward set, did some testing, but couldn't get rid of it anymore, till today...That lap time I've just made invisible now, it's the thing LFS uses internally to show that first lap of qualifying or practice is not to be counted. Only, I should not display it.

I don't know what you mean about the handicap problem, you should be able to simply move the slider to adjust it. Is it possible to reproduce the problem you found?

Connection list vanished from entry screen after I updated to w35, both client and host.No problem, that one is already reported and fixed in my version.

ive spot this bug much eralier - on attached images you can see it with dedi W0. you type something, press enter, command disasppears and nothing is executed... (it happends when server runs for longer time 1+ days i think, spotted with remote desktop (only) usage (im absolutelly not sure, possible can be a windows bug - different mapping of enter key...), lapper is running here)

Noticed a bug with dedi server. After it has been running for some time, you can't enter commands & messages any more. That is, you can type text in and see it, press Enter, text disappears, but nothing happens.
