A few days ago I had no problem conncting to my friends server, even tho he lives in the UK and I in the USA, now I do .
About the same time I did an WinXP update to the OS, this problem surfaced...
We thought at first it was a router problem in-route some where, but.. out of curiousity, he fired up his server on Win98 and I CAN connect okay . Tho he can not connect to me when I am the server.
Any one have this problem or a possible solution as to how he can use WXP to serve ? He didnt do an XP update btw, just me.
Also I can not serve / host... meaning... not one soul ever joins my server. My friend tries to , by typing in my server name, but its a no go . My server does show up on the master server list, but not on the list of servers in the game.

What was the update? If it was SP2 (which somepeople hate, but I don't know why), then you have more controls in the Windows Firewall. You may need to reconfigure it to work with LFS now.

Hi, Im the person with the server and he sent me the link to this post.
Just as an addition to what he wrote .... when I serve under XP no one else seem to have problems connecting to me, just him.... I also tried a clean reinstall xp but to no effect...
other checks, ban list, router settings, firewall..
Its as if he cannot connect directly with me for some reason under XP but is ok when i serve with any other OS
I've tried everything and it's doing my head in... hopefully a boffin can suggest something....
p.s.. he also cant see my server on the server list but when he tries to connect directly it gives a client failed message

I already had SP2 , this was thier latest Update... I have connected to him B4 okay.
I have even tried with my firewall off, even tried with my laptop too on my LAN.

Have you repeated the tests since finding a way for it to work?
The reason I ask if because theres been a lot of problems between a number of level 1 tier's today.

Just awhile ago I was able to connect to his server for the first time in 3 days, with him using WXP. Still dont know why on the no go days I could connect when he used W98
Still tho no one can connect to me when I act as a server....
I am in the USA..so maybe it is a router problem , just know that I better not buy the game way it is now
I have my server on as a dedicated server on my other PC , name is
ARIZONA, all black letters.
Would appreciate if a few who read this woulod try nconnect to me for testing.
I do list on the master server list under the Demo section.

Every test was carried out numerous times on both os .....
Another thing to note that I dont think it is an LFS problem.. another test we did was to see if he could download directly from me through another program ... that would not work either and has since cleared up in tandem with him being able to connect with my lfs server tonight.
to summerise
1/he could NOT connect to my server under XP (LFS or direct download)
2/he COULD connect to both under win98
3/no one else I know of had the same problems connecting to my server.
4/He had no problems connecting to other servers on lfs master list (no doubt some would have been XP)
5/Router double checked
6/firewall triple checked
7/ new XP clean install (when all else failed)
8/all of a sudden tonight after days of trying all works itself out without either of us changing anything !
Even though all seems ok now I would love to get to the bottom of this.
