WARNING 1 : THIS IS A TEST
WARNING 2 : SKINS ARE CONVERTED THE FIRST TIME YOU RUN THE TEST PATCH - IT TAKES 2 MINUTES OR SO
Hello Racers.
Here is a new test patch W26. Please see the list of changes below.
Here is some information about the major changes in this series of test patches :
- Most notably, the number of cars in a race has increased to 32.
- Also, false starts are now possible (LFS does not hold you at the start line - you must make your car go)
- Skin improvements including high resolution premium skin download service
There are various improvements related to skins including the option to download high resolution skins while online, for a small charge of £1 for 2000 downloads. The low resolution downloads are still free. We have to charge for the downloading of high resolution skins because of the increased bandwidth and the need to buy and maintain more internet servers for LFS online usage which is always increasing. Please note, we are not selling skins. The skins remain the property of their owners. Your copy is a high resolution compressed version of the original. This is a charge purely for the downloading service which allows you to see other cars' skins in higher resolution.
Downloaded skins are now always saved and shown in compressed form. The original jpg is not saved on other computers. This allows the best use of memory and the quickest load from disk.
To use your own jpg skins, or to view skins that you manually download, save them into your skins folder - you will then find them selectable in game, just as before. You can see your manually downloaded skins compressed or not compressed according to the option for local skins. There are now 4 skins folders but you can ignore them all, just forget about them and just use the skins folder as usual.
skins : you save jpg skins that you want to select in game
skins_dds : lfs uses this to store dds (compressed) versions of your local skins
skins_x : lfs stores automatically downloaded low res skins
skins_y : lfs stores automatically downloaded high res skins
NOTE : SKINS ARE CONVERTED ON THE FIRST RUN OF THIS TEST PATCH - THAT MAY TAKE 2 MINUTES OR SO
If you want to use this service, you can make a payment at www.lfsworld.net or at the main site https://www.liveforspeed.net/?page=shop
To deal with the increased memory usage, there is also a skin purging system which removes unneeded skins from your graphics card memory, some time after they were last used. You can see the list of skins in use in the Misc Options screen. White means the skin is actually in use. Black means it was recently used and is hanging around a while in case it is used again (to avoid a disc access). In the past, LFS just left all skins in memory until you changed track or weather.

Yes, just a couple of fixes, I couldn't leave it without MP Replays working and I knew that would be a quick fix.
Right, now... it's my day off coding! :)

It solved the mpr problem for me, but I still can't view my spr that i made on w25 (I get a pop up saying "Track start positions do not match").
spr is attached.
When trying to make a new spr i noticed weird behaviour which i noticed last night as well.
When I save a replay, it wants to immediately view it but I can't use any of the controls (tab, v, whatever). I'm definitely in the replay (seeing as I can't enter the controller menu), but i cant do anything.
The most weird thing about it is that I can still fast forward beyond to what i have recorded (replay was 1 minute, but i can view further).
This was a qualifying session in single player btw.

Just taking a stab in the dark here but would that be because of W25 having problems and now the code is changed so anything made in W25 would now be obsolete  ......

MPR's working again, thanks Scawen!:thumb:
I just joined a W23 server and when speccing someone in an FZR their handicap said 100kg even though in the pits it says the handicap is only 80kg. The XRR handicap was 40kg while speccing so it was correct.

indeed, just tried to do it with w26 and I had the same problem. No surprise there as there were no changes to the code regarding single player mode.

What is the status of the handicap ?
I mean the value for each car?

I do hope the handicap is optional and not hard-coded. Sorry for offtopic.

The XRR handicap was 40kg while speccing so it was correct. My guess is that the FZR drivers setup had 100kg handicap on it. Maybe for offline practice or something like that. The driver just forgot or didn't know that the handicap got reduced and thus was driving with 100kg.

Just upgraded to W26 dedicated host.
Note that lfsworld and live_progress script display the host as "W17".
E.g. http://www.lfsworld.net/pubstat/live_progress.php?host=%5Bnoobs%5D+meow+%28iB%29
Dunno if it's related to master server settings or if it's any harmful at all. Just a heads up.
Edit: Fixed within seconds after I posted this. :-OOOO

And yet again, it has managed to fix itself without any reasonable explanation. Very odd.
This has happened to me each time I've installed the latest test patches now.
The Alt-tab thingy is Windows issue not LFS directly.
NVIDIA nor ATI dont recomend using ALT-TAB when you want to minimeze game. They said its Windows issue and I never heard Micorosft would say something against it.
I had same issue with other games as well.Nothing new.Sometimes the ALT-TAB work weird in windows.

Scawen, in the W25 test thread, you asked if I could provide an SPR and a screenshot showing the AI reset deadlock issue I had mentioned. If you still want them, they're in the attached zip archive. The archive also contains a readme describing what to look for in the replay. If you need additional information, just ask.

Didn't saw anything about this one( if it was mentioned sry):
Pb on drag raaces does not count...even when i made one lfsw don't give me any message....i don't know when this happend(which patch) but it's a bug right?
Tried with two cars and it's not working...maybe something with 1st lap being 1 h ? but it's a race not qual ....
edit: deleted one time and tried to make new pb and it still don't count it...now i'm out of 950 combo club because of this :(

The archive also contains a readme describing what to look for in the replay. If you need additional information, just ask. Thanks for that replay. The first incident really made me laugh because the AI looked so stupid.
I see that one major part of the problem is they shouldn't really be trying to reset. They want to reset because their car is damaged. So... what they should do in that case - when they would like to reset but can't because other cars are too close - they should just try to manoeuvre out of the situation, by reversing in the normal way. It's just that at the moment, they insist on trying to reset and they won't try anything to else to get out of the situation they are stuck in.

I'm frankly loving W at the moment, the proper starts have really made the game even better for me!
I'd love an option to disable the AI Repair though as my broadband goes down more than a tarts knickers :) But I appreciate the priority is on the online details and the other more important aspects.
Roll on W27 ;)

10 lap race - Dead man Racing server on W26 - Last night approx 10 pm?
Im running almost a full lap behind the leader - they all cross the line - then I do in something like 14th Place - The results clear and Im given as the winner of the race? The End Questioned it, so did I.
Never seen this happen before - Has the server admin just reset the race to restart - then canx the restart?
Very strange - thought Id just post it - sorry for wastin time.
|Cant post replay as file size to large even after compression. If anyone wants to investigate - Pm me and Ill mail them the mpr.

Hello.
I found an oddity in the connection list.
The "24h Train #01" server (W23) runs in practice mode on Ky GP Rev for quite a while now. The details screen reports it as a 214 laps race. I went to the server to confirm that it actually is in practice mode. I was using W26 to capture the screenshot.
Wether or not it's caused by the testpatches it's something that should be fixed, isn't it?

Open the first post of this thread here (http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=428079#post428079).
Click the patch link there and download the LFS_TEST_W26.exe into your LFS directory. When the download is finished, just run it and click the Execute button. When it asks to overwrite some files click Yes to All. After that, you are ready to go.

even better:
1) copy your LFS folder and rename it to something like "LFS test patch"
2) download the zip file at the start of this thread and open it
3) drag/copy all files from the zip into your new folder, overwriting anything (you won't lose anything, and you're backed up now anyway)
I just like to use the zip file as you have more control over where things go... many people mis-use the exe file archive.

1. I'm getting a mini lag when someone exits the pits(joins the race)
2. I've wrote about helmet skins, I didn't get that working. If I copy any helmet skin to the skins directory (lets say I just copy default HEL_BF1_NH.jpg to HEL_alx.jpg) and when I run LFS, going to options, player, click to select the helmet skin... and the new skin is not in that list...
This doesn't happen with car skins...

It seems to work for me. I tried exactly what you said and saw the skin when I clicked on the helmet skin selection button.
What is your setting for "Car and helmet skins" in Graphics Options?
it was set to "Full", I've set it to compressed, restarted LFS, and I can see the skins now in the list. thanks.

Pit instructions fuel load can now be adjusted in 1% steps
Could this be made optional? 1% steps are too small for quick adjustments during races and I would have to redo my scripts to change it back to 5%. ATM I map two wheel buttons to ctrl+F7 and ctrl+F8 whenever I go into the live menus and ctrl+f7 and ctrl+f8 are set to /press left and /press right by autoexec.lfs.
Come to think of it I would just have to create two new script files and set ctrl+f7 and ctrl+f8 to /run newfile. So not that much hassle after all but I'll just post this anyway, maybe it's interesting to someone.

I agree. But really this was just an excuse to echo the request for an "Add X%" at pitstop option, then you wouldn't have to make the quick adjustments at all (if, for example, you decided to come in 3 laps early).

Just curious, has anyone experienced a MASSIVE stutter spike in w26? It's been running beatuifully for me (stutters from previous patches resolved) but last night out of nowhere my LFS went completely nuts. I mean, it stuttered so bad that the sound chopped up heaps and I could see only 1 frame a second for about 5 or more seconds. My first thought was, uh oh something is loading in windows, but my hdd wasn't flashing crazy like it would be if that were the case. Also, as usualy with LFS stutters, my FPS counter did not lower at all (was around 80, according to FRAPS). After the 5 or so seconds it smoothed out a bit, but it was still a bit choppy so I immediately quit LFS and checked to see if anything was happening in windows. Nothing out of the ordinary, no AV activity, no popups, no active processes.
I was wondering if this has something to do with the new skin system? Is it possible that LFS tried converting a skin file (or something) whilst I was driving? I know it's meant to happen when you're idle, but is it at all possible that in rare circumstances it can happen when driving?
FYI I was on the 24h Training server.
ps: Sully - are you on riddilin?

This happened to me also the other day (i was on W24 though), most notably are the sound stutters, it's not frame drops or something like that, it's like someone is hiting the Pause button really fast, with sound stutters... i could finish the race, but it wasn't pleasent... This also happened maybe two times before also, not sure on what patch it was that, but it was long time ago..

This has been happening to me all day on 0.5W. All the same symptoms. Been happening all week really. I did notice something in task manager I don't know if its relevant. But the system idle Process had 93 under CPU. Not sure what that meant, but I felt it might be connected.
In another msg, Scawen mentioned if the cpu clock and the computer time clock are out of sync more than 5ms, LFS wouldn't be able to handle it. I had an error in my in manager (right click my computer, select manage), event manager, Applications, on W32time. This controls timer synchronisation. The error stated it was caused cause the time server was inaccessable. So I clicked on the taskbar clock, and chose a diffnt time server and updated it. Also in manager, click on services, and scroll down till you find Windows Time. Make sure its set to automatic and its started. I also did the acpi update driver. In a short test in MP in LFS, I didn't have any sign of stutter. Though I'll need to test it more thoroughly tomorrow when I have more time.
Not sure if the time server controls puter time and cpu clock sync or not. But it made sense given the error.
Venus
[EDIT] Ignore all the time stuff. It is the cause of the error, but for some wierd reason I don't understand, my system keeps getting synchronisation errors with the servers, and I get the same problem with my world time clock when I try to sync that. Unfortunately there's no way to add a new server to the list. The first server time.windows.com doesn't respond to a ping, while the second one does (in australia). Still, both fail synchronisation. Anyone else notice this?

I'm still getting mini-pauses each and every time some1 enters/exits pits (have W26 installed). On small tracks with lots of cars this makes qualifying an absolute nightmare. My pings to the server I race on are excellent.
I'm also having serious problems with major lag/fps issues/whatever at race starts due to more cars being able to be on the track, this is especially the case when they all decide to run into each other and have a major accident - it's as though my pc is having a fit lol
Was previously getting 70-80 fps easy with User LOD set to 0.6 and minimal (if any) noticeable reduction in this at race starts. Shadows etc are all turned off and always have been.
Now I have the User LOD set to 0.4 and am using compressed skins and have turned off prettymuch everything I can think of and am still suffering badly at race starts.
Please can we have the pit entry/exit bug thingy fixed once and for all? It's been a problem since it was first noticed after a (test?) patch and subsequent reductions in this lag have done nothing for me at all.
Would also love to only have to be concerned with other drivers at race starts :)

I'd like to add that my post was referring to a once-off MASSIVE freeze up. Please do not confuse with the usual stutters that make a race unpleasant, as they have been now fixed for me since w25. The problems by those who replied sound a bit different in my opinion.

Maybe this has been discussed before.... (please forgive my ignorance if it has) but is there a way to increase the size of the blue, red, green pedals... ? I have a momo wheel and as u all know the pedals tend to act foolishly sometimes... and in earlier patches i was using the 3 pedals (in lfs) to find out if my pedals were acting up or not. The white edge showing maximum value helped alot, until the sizes of the pedals were reduced, and since i am running a rather high resolution, the white/green tends to blend in, and if you just take a glimpse you really cand make out the 2.
It seems i have been racing for white some time, with my accel pedal just shy of the maximum value, only today have i noticed (looking closely) that the white edge was not appearing. So is there any way of making them bigger?

When I go to change skins,it freezes for a few moment's,then a message appear's "You have lost connection to host" Is it a bug or something ?That sounds strange, seems like it's taking a long time, as if there are still skins waiting to be converted - but really that should only happen once - and it shouldn't take very long because it would only be if you added a new skin after starting LFS.
So I'm wondering, Could it be you have a corrupted skin in your skins folder, that LFS keeps trying (and failing) to convert? Could you try this : Go in LFS, click to select a skin (I guess it should pause a long time even in single player). After the long pause, have a look in CFG.txt and see what skin it was trying to convert (it's probably one of the last lines in the file). Now go into your skins folder and just try to open that skin (to see if it's a corrupted file).

We have already had people whining that the pit-lane speed limiter isn't on by default...imagine the furore if they actually had to start the car as well! (what's next btw? cant start a race until you check oil/water?)
But this sim shouldn't be pleasing "those" people, jeez, like we are talking about Wipeout here... :x They will wonder one time what is happening, then they would figure it out, just like they would get a "stop and go" once and the next time they will watch if the speed limiter is on or off... :really: i mean, c'mon, it's not brain science...
It would add some immersion i think, since there are places where we are really lacking it...
It would be a bit more closer to real races, qualis starts, you here engine after engine starting... I think we should really move forward to the realism, not away from it, that kind of thinking like: "but the noobs wouldn't be able to drive easily" is what is holding this sim down...

I won't be making the cars start with the engine off in qualifying for patch X.
I tried that the other day when I made the the cars start from the pits. But the starting sound effect isn't much good because the engine sort of starts instantly and you can hear that behind the starter motor sound. It needs a physics update to spin the engine up more slowly so it matches the start motor's rate of acceleration.
So, in short, I'm not interested in adding it while it makes people hear something that doesn't sound very good. I'm doubtful if it's a the best idea for the future anway, because remember LFS is about racing, not really all about pushing buttons in the right sequence. But please, let's not discuss that here any more. That is an improvement suggestion and as I've now said I'm not doing it for X at least, we shouldn't discuss it on the test patch any more. Thanks.

Ok, nice to know you are considering it, it makes sense not to implement it now... but it's not just the racing that matters, it's little things also, we might aswell be starting the race right in the middle of the T1 mayhem with the counter saying "prepare, it will unpause itself in 5, 4, 3, 2.. " :)
Sorry for bringing this in the test patch section... won't do it again...

Regarding the stutter. I'm not too sure its an LFS problem. I had no stutter problems with my lfs before my hdd blew up and I lost everything. After reinstall on diffnt hard disk. I have real problems with stutter; but it also exists in windows xp even when lfs isn't loaded. I get the same temporary freezing, the same sound stutters. Its exactly the same as it is in LFS. So I tend to think its a windows problem. Its being caused by something almost constantly accessing the hard drive; but there's nothing there. Even now its whirring away, and there's nothing loaded. I've set windows for performace, disabled all the visual helps, tried to fiddle with the virtual mem, but that doesn't help. I even tried getting my clock sync'd by making some registry changes to w32time in registry.
The only thing I can think of is its the swap file, but I have gobs of mem (786mb) and the swap file is only 1150mb. With nothing loaded, the hdd shouldn't be going mad. I did comp sci at uni, and I know this isnt' normal. So damned if I know, I'm just sure its not an LFS problem.

Nup, not in my case anyway.
Had a hard drive fail a little while ago and replaced it with 2 x raptor drives in Raid 0 configuration. Also have 2GB RAM (dual channel). Stutter or mini-freeze or whatever you want to call it was present before and after this (but only since it first started appearing in the game).
I even used a fresh install of LFS when putting it on the new HDD's.

Thanks for the feedback.
I've uploaded a new patch W31. The list of updates doesn't look very long but that's because the InSim button interface is quite a big thing that took some days. It will allow host control systems and local InSim programs do put buttons on your screen.
You will be able to switch buttons on or off by using the SHIFT+I (host buttons) or SHIFT+B (local buttons) keypresses.
But don't worry about that, you should be instructed how to use any program when you get there! :)
Changes in TEST PATCH W31 :
Command line command /player (start LFS with specified player name)
Startup skin conversion now shows progress and skin being converted
New command /wait (like /exec but LFS hangs until the program exits)
