a g25 on 900 would be fun for that lol, youd need to position it so the wheel was flat level with the desk rather than tilted towards you tho :D
I'd prefer a lawn mower! ;)

LFS is a realism simulator. Asking for this is like asking for the Batmobile or for a jet-powered UF1 :D! It's just a waste of space and time, as are many things in this world. (I just wasted a minute on this response :D)

-1 for adding it to LFS
+1 for making a separate game with this idea.
however i would much prefer to see super bikes in LFS, although using a wheel to control one is pointless for obvious reasons.

XCNuse
11th June 2007, 13:21
Glad you asked pelican. For starters, LFS isn't meant to be modable, not that much atleast. Second of all, it shows where LFS has a serious weakness and can be broken into and then possibly sold off in some black market and illegally made some cash with some things that aren't really in LFS. Third of all, I'm pretty sure I am right when I speak of the devs that they didn't want their game to be turned into some bus or whatever sim, mainly because that is not what they had put in the game, nor intentioned to be visible to the public which can be quickly be turned against them.
Lastly, every link and thread I find will be deleted because of those reasons, and more.

Seriously, of course modding shouldn't be done unless the devs allow it. But nevertheless it is great to see what the LFS engine is capable of. GTRs, F1, road cars, busses, even motorbikes are possible - that just shows how good it really is.

I wont go into it too much because I know there will be at least one sensible person that will post how much of a bad idea modding is.
1. Waste of hard drive space, no one wants (hopefully) 10gb of mods when 75%(probably lower % than what it would really be) will be way off from what they are really suppose to be.
2. LFS is after all an ONLINE racing simulator, mods would obviously kill the online feature. I dont think that every 2 or 3 days people want to download a new car or track that will not even look or feel like the real thing.
Development is fine now the way it is, only way I see any type of modding in the future is if it was submitted to and accepted by ScaViEr (a panel of testers/decision makers would create complaints). I don't see a community vote working to well as it would start enough flame wars to cook everyone in the whole world a few marshmellows each, and would probably burn them from the heat. :hbomb: :scratchch

@xpjames, hehe, with a default skin of "Slothian Buses"
The way I see it, we love racing, and in the world out there there are so many forms of motor sport and many are pretty wild and look great fun. There's no reason why LFS cant support some of these, in time, but I think we all accept that it needs to focus on its core functionality first.
LFS has been open to modding for along time, via insim, so it stands to reason that one day we'll be able to mod other things in LFS. It's inneviteable. I'm sure when it happens that Scawen's solution wont have the same pitfalls as rFactor, because like everything Scawen does, he'll put a lot of effort into getting it right before we see so much as a glimmer of it.

I agree. Tweak shows that LFS already supports a few different engine types (rather than a default model having it's stats changed to suit a different car). I assume more could be added without that many changes.
The only thing is that the bigger and heavier vehicles would need longer tracks - Supertrucks, for instance, can't really do hairpins or chicanes :)
But I certainly don't think there's any reason why any type of vehicle should be missed out. A V8 FX? A hotrod-style UF? Ah, it'd be so cool.

sure... just they have to be fantasy cars... not real ones couz of the reasons you all know already...
maybe there will be a competition like the lfs skins competition...
like programming cars in specified classes (buggie, trucks,.. whatever devs want)...
and the best ones will be chosen for ingame in patch z or aa or xx,... just a thought lol

I love the fact that LFS is controlled but they seriously need to add a few things to keep us happy. It's not that I expect them to give us free add-ons, but all the other racing sims that are in competition with LFS allow moding and therefore an endless array of track/car choices.

There are far more important racing cars (you remember this is a racing sim, right?) that should be added before these kinds of vehicles.
Crashgate3
23rd May 2008, 11:41
There are a lot of types of proper racing cars missing from LFS which I won't deny *are* more important, but it would be fun to have something a bit silly to race, which due to it's slightly silly nature, the devs don't really have to spend a lot of time making and tweaking it. Buses would be good, but even something like a big Transit van would work just as well. Something you don't often get on a racing circuit but can still reach 100mph or so if you really push it.
