View Full Version : A program to filter other programs starting...

I am now using Kerio firewall and it has this nice feature to allow or deny other applications from starting. As the Kerio, however, is starting to act weirdly (randomly doesn't even start...) I have decided to change to Outpost firewall. But it doesn't have this feature.
Is there a program that monitors other program and asks for your permission whether to allow or deny it starting?
Searched through download.com and tucows.com and found only some "system activity recorders" which I don't want.

Menu start -> run -> type: msconfig -> startup, and then choose what programs you want to start up! Hope it helps, gl!

Thanks for the tip, but what I really wanted is a program that controls what other programs I want to run in my computer.
For example I am doing something on my computer and suddenly the antivirus program starts up and begins scanning my hard drives. I want a program that asks me if I want to allow the antivirus program to start.

Sadly I don't think there's program like that. AFAIK the only way you can turn it off is in the programs settings, as it is the program that controls when the action is being taken.
The only way I can see is to buy it, or if you can't afford it - do it another way, though I would prefer buying antivirus software.

Noooo! :)
I want a program that asks me if I allow some other program to start. I've already found couple of programs that can do this, so far. But they all cost some money. And I think I can find free software to do this. I'm looking at winpatrol at the moment, but not really sure what it actually does.
PS. the antivirus program mentiened in my previous post was just an example
Example 2:
I start some program called prog1. It wants to start some other program called prog12. I don't. So <<<the program I want to filter this>>> asks me if allow prog1 to launch prog12. I say no and the prog12 won't start. If possible I can set that the prog12 is never allowed to start.
EDIT: Still looking for a program, removed the one I mentiened here as it wasn't what I wanted...

It also lists Mozilla Firefox as an item of immediate danger to system security - so maybe that's not such a good idea after all? :p
