Well i came home today after wearing flip-flops all day, and went on to go race some lfs with bare feet, not even thinking about it. As soon as i touched the pedals with my bare feet, i looked down and went :really: ... for some odd reason, i NEED to wear socks and only socks when i race with the wheel and pedals.

 So i was just wondering, whats your preference? :scratchch

I take my shoes off so yeah, only because shoes + petals = unconfortable for me :D fuzzy socks ftw

I'm the same way... I need socks.

When I raced with a wheel I HAD to have socks on for serious racing... For some reason, the easier it is for my foot to move around on the pedals the more precise I can be with throttle and brake adjustments.. lol?

I do have a pair of racing boots but i haven't tried them. I don't think they'll have the same effect as in a car/kart as the pedals from my DFP are a lot lighter (easier to push down) than on my kart.

And, I always wear socks when racing. Trainers are just too big and bare feet just feels weird :)

Need to wear socks, nothing else!, If I dont use them, I can't feel the pedals and You know I brake to soon or acelerate more than enought..

Have to wear socks, otherwise my feet slip off the pedals.

Can't say I've tried with my shoes on. Formula Force EX pedals seem to flimsy to put too much weight on them.

I use socks. but I sometimes race in slippers in Citydriving servers. I can't race very well becuase the slippers are too big for the pedals and its kina hard to shift around on the pedals. I have tried bare feet but my toes get stuck everywhere around the pedals

Socks. If I wear shoes, the DFP pedals are hard to read, feel wise.

Socks. I want to get in the habit of shoes though. I think it will help the transition between LFS and real car. I can heel/toe easy with socks, but with bare feet i either pinch a toe, or stick to the pedals.

I've always worn socks with computer sim racing. My PC is in the basement and I came back upstairs a few nights ago. The wife was surprised to see me, LOL. She asked what was wrong. I had to change my socks. She had bought me a new package of socks that I had put a pair on that morning, and they were too slippery on the pedals, LOL.

So, socks it is, but they must be a bit worn in :thumb:

I wear socks, because the g25 pedals can get pretty cold! and the socks help my feet to slide slightly on the pedals. I have never tried with shoes on, purely because that would wear the pedals more.

Socks, or if I can't be arsed to put them on, barefoot.

Socks and SHORTS, I've played with jeans on and my jeans aren't floods and the interfere with the whole foot to pedal contact and I've learned stick to shorts and socks, FTW.

I always wear shoes, especially since getting a G25. The stiffer springs and metal pedals almost mandate wearing shoes. I also am very picky about the shoes that I wear. My Adidas "sorta-driving-shoes" would be perfect, except that the pedals on the G25 are so far apart. So, I wear a pair of well used Nikes with very thin soles. I can feel pretty well what the pedals are doing, but they're still wide enough that I can heel/toe fairly easily.

Socks, here. I have to wear Nike or Adidas ones if I want to win a race, though. I have some Umbro ones, and they're okay for endurance races, too. Obviously the black socks I wear with my suit just aren't fast enough, so they're not an option.

Shorts FTW, but I wear shorts 52 weeks in the year.. even when it snows! I'm notorious for it :)

Maybe fishnets if I was manly enough to buy them.

Hi there!:smileypul

For the important Races I usually wear a particullar pair
of purple (thick) skiing socks, with an odd greenish square patterned surface.
My wife knows that she has to spare me for a while, when I put those on in my special pre-race ritual;
which comes with a "racing-pillow for my leopard-patterned raceseat an some other oddities...

Greeting, Dandy

Shorts FTW

:D Shorts are awesome.

I wear whatever I happen to have on my feet when I start playing. Although I do agree it feels a bit odd wearing shoes. Its probably something to do with the soles making the pedals feel slightly higher up than usual.

about 6 or 7 years ago a group of us took over a cybercafe to hold a toca2 event. Everyone had to bring their own wheels and peddals and it was quite amusing to watch everyone set up their wheel, install the game and then remove their shoes before racing.

i use my kart racing shoes, not because i'm wear, but because i my 3pedals frexgp modifed combo are very stiff and it hurts if i only use socks.

24th April 2007, 07:05
Always preferred socks as you can slide your feet around better than without them, and oh well, I don't use shoes indoors. Did drive bare feet sometimes but not anymore as the G25 pedals can be so dam cold!

AndroidXP
24th April 2007, 07:38
Socks definitely! Preferably thick winter socks to prevent the sharp G25 pedal edges hurting my feet. Heel-toeing gets a lot more comfortable that way.

Anyone ever raced in tighty-whiteys and running shoes? :smileypul My family won't let me live that one down. I've tried every combination I could think up and I always go back to boxers/barefeet. My if my seat angle were different(office chair) I would be fine with jeans and sneakers but for my setup my boxers and wife-beater are the best(it's very hot in my office when I close my doors to keep from bothering the household with my Z-5500s turned up as loud as I can stand.)

when I would wear shoes, I would get into trouble because of the size of my feet. In german measure I have size 50 (I could press all three pedals in a car with one feet at the same time :D ). Heel&Toe is almost impossible, more like Heel&Heel for me

Slippers? :p Back in my Momo days anyway

The G25 pedals are too close, I need to go barefoot or the sides of my slippers catch.

They're a bit of a wank but they're better than normal socks, the extra padding helps, especially on the heel in long races.

Yeah i normally race in socks but very often in slippers aswell, there is enough feeling coming through so its fine! :)

I use socks only here :D. I tried just my feet a while ago but thing is, my bro uses slippers or shoes when he drives, he tells me that he gets a better feel from using them :really: I dunno how, but he does. Anyway, I wear socks not to get my feet dirty from his filthy soled shoes :p.

Climbing in front of the PC getting ready to race in socks at your home doesn't sound all that strange. But looking at it in the context of going to a cybercafe and everyone taking their shoes off to race is pretty funny.

Socks for me all the way!!

I got speshul padded bottom socks so its real nice. I tried barefoot a couple of nights ago, but almost got a blister on me accelerator foot due to the ridges on the DFP pedals (yea i got weak wimpy soles).

geeman1
24th April 2007, 11:45
Socks. I tried racing with shoes once, but couldn't get the same feel and I was afraid my DFPs pedals would break down.
I am thinking to switching to shoes when I get my 3 pedal set, heel and toeing just doesn't work with socks only.

I am just wondering, are these kind of "socks" sold anywhere? I'm not talking about the sim socks which were sold at dE (?). I'd be more interested of similar racing socks like that. I'm asking because those would be quite ideal to use with 3 pedals and would be quite easy to put on/take off too?

In public too? Thats disguisting lol. Im wear jeans or suit when out but shorts all the rest of the time like you :D Glad im not the only one.

Bare foot for me though. If i am wearing socks i will take them off to play lfs, so in times of playing lfs i end up with a sock pile by my pc.

I wonder what everyone uses in their real cars. The only time I've ever driven with shoes on was when I took my driving test. I only wear thongs/slaps/flip-flops (take your pick) or vans slip-on sneakers, so it's practical for me. Socks are very consistent, grip-wise; bare feet can get sweaty and slip off most pedals. Fortunately, socks still allow me to put the pedals between my toes for ultimate fine control and feel of the vibrations.

I liken driving with shoes on your feet to driving with your elbows on the wheel and shifting with shoes on your hands--at least in relative terms of control. You wouldn't care so much about smoothness when racing though, nevertheless, I don't see how it would hurt going barefoot/sockfoot (unless of course you're scared of your feet getting niki lauda'd).

Driving with thin soled shoes is best, I've got a pair of Lonsdale style shoes which have a thin sole and a high rubber back on the heel. Most of the advantages of racing footwear without looking like a total *insert expletives* who wears racing boots anywhere other than a in a race car nor do they look like driving shoes that instantly say flat cap and leather helmets.

TBH I've never tried racing shoes. It is no stretch of the imagination to think they would be very nice. One of the issues I have with shoes while driving is the heel. I need to feel my heel snug up against the floor. I can't imagine how some women drive with high heels...
