check this out too: http://worldwind.arc.nasa.gov/
it's like google's keyhole (3D interactive world and you can fly and zoom as u like). it downloads tons of stuff while working though, of higher res images. after installing the basic + blue marble data (about 180M total) and playing with it a bit, it grew to nearly a giga on my HD..
still nice though :)

thanks for that link there avih, downloading it now, looks pretty interesting
i mean i sit here when im bored looking through google earth (if you didnt know, hold the wheel button down and you can move the camera view up up and down degrees.. and everything is 3d, its really cool to sit there looking at some mountains or the grand canyon and whatnot!)
wonder how this world wind stacks up next to google earth

oh geese! from that post to this post, i've installed and uninstalled that, its VERY impressive, but i dont suggest it unless you have tons of space on your computer! just between now and then i went up to 2 gigs of information
its got tons of neat things, but the quality on the pictures around the world isnt as nice as google is, however it has tons of interesting things to look at and different map types etc. but if your computer doesnt have much space (even though i have 20 empty gigs, i am still skeptical that im near 20 free lol) but hey.. if you got tons of space to spare go ahead, its pretty interesting!
one last thing; sadly it also takes FOREVER to download things such as tracking hurricanes and such.. wanted to track hurricane francis, but.. got about 1/8 done in about 30 minutes so.. owell its quite nice though
