just like to say that after doing a drift parctice in real life (http://www.fulllock.com/pnights.htm) in my 4AGE AE86, that lfs is still the closest to the real thing. granted that i havnt yet played forza, out of all other driving sims (gt4 etc) lfs still feels the closest to the real thing even when drifting :)
keep up the good work guys ;)
edit: im just hangin out for a track/car model editor :p

Forza is fairly fun for drifting. The tyres do feel weird in the game though. Its almost like the sidewalls are made of jelly. To me it feels like the tyre is going to roll off the rim :)
But LFS is still king i agree

I just found out yesterday that if you plug in two wheels, you can use the pedal for the 2nd wheel as a clutch just like i do in lfs.

enthusia is pretty good for the ps2 but i've never played it with a wheel.
one really cool thing is seeing the "circle of traction" as a hud. it also shows you which individual wheel has broken free when one loses traction.
it's nice for tuning for driving style and for teaching my friends who have NO CLUE about racing.

its close enough to reality to scare off alot of kids.:) not as close as i like but at least it has that effect associated with sims.

Indeed. GT4 has the most absurd slogan ("The Real Driving Simulator") ever.

+1 for Enthusia.
I hear it's the most realistic of the console games. Despite it's arcadey interface. I have the game, but without a wheel or real world drifting experience, I can't comment on its realism.
Since you drift in real life, I'd love if you could give some feedback on Enthusia.

it is pretty fun comparing cars to eachother. it is realistic on that aspect with most cars. STi ver.III is more fun than the ver.II and Iv... things like that. Subaru WRX STi spec c's handling compared to an evo of the same year is just as different as in real life. things like that. its just that the physics seem to be held back. Hopefully they wont as much in gt5. I just started playing gt4 again a few days ago. :)

All my friends at school claim (without actually playing LFS of coarse) that GT4 is the king. I hate forza, i had it on my xbox before it got stolen XD I have convinced a couple of my friends to try lfs however :D also (kind of off topic) i hate it when you tell people about live for speed, and they say something like, "o ya, you mean need for speed" grr. . . lol has that happened to any of you? just curious ;)

ya I get that all the time, which is very annoying, even when I say "LFS", they'd mistakenly thought its "NFS"
friend:"whats that"
me:"LFS"
friend:"o..Need For Speed?"
me:"no, its Live For Speed"
friend:"what!? thats what I just said, Need For Speed!"
I guess I should work on my pronounciations. :shy:

U said it. I get that all the time. - people think I cant speak right and
meant Need For Speed. :chair:
Also when I talk to somebody about LFS, I often get this;
"GT4 is the most realistic racing game ever."
And then when im asking WHAT is realistic about it,
they say that the graphic is almost like IRL.
...not a WORD about the physics....

GT4 is NOT a Driving Simulator. You can drive with a Toyota Minolta "515 km/h" with Nos and Turbo Stage 4 "LOL". And it gave so many Things thats is not REALY.
Sorry to all GT4 players but it is not a Real Driving Simulator.Live for Speed is 1000x Realistic and Better than GT.

Come on XC, Peugeot Clio V6? tsk tsk :)
GT4 is ok. If they call it a "Simulator", then I suppose it is, just not technically a very accurate one. There is a "sensation" of being in control of a car that you don't get with most of the other crap out there on consoles though.

I wish you folks would stop to think so absolute. Yes, LFS is king. But so are GPL, NR 2003, GTL and GTR as well, all for their very own simulated driving world.

...and an M3 can get round the ring in 6.30...
But so are GPL, NR 2003
In terms of pure driving realism the Papy sims have to win, LFS only gets the advantage with the popularity of the online play, hopefully someday LFS will have netcode to support 42 cars.

Just imagine the T1 carnage... *shudder*

17th October 2005, 20:11
You know... the 42 cars would be spread on a longer grid than the 20 cars are now. Just as 20 cars now are spread over a bigger distance than 10 cars on the grid. T1 would still be exactly the same.
Also flying starts should be implemented soon.

Also flying starts should be implemented soon.
Which would only lead to higher speeds entering T1 and just about the same carnage. It's not standing or flying starts, it's the mindset of the racers.

Grid of 42 cars, I think that we need to have some sort of license requirement for racer joining so big races ;)
I just love to hunt those that can pass T1 with luck without braking, usually they can make few turns but then pressure when they see my car at mirror is too much and they seem to spin out, quite annoying, I never can make proper overtaking :(
However, there is times when someone actually is staying on track, really fun to pretend to be outbraking and then other racers braking goes long, while I just take inside line and gotcha again.
Just quite rare to have these battles nowdays, Aston National is perhaps best place to seek these battles with FXO GTR...
LFS is best online part for sure, also only sim that has cars those can be handled many ways, it is true racing sim, GTR-game is indeed a game, suspension and tyres are wery odd, imo. Also online part is far from LFS. Sure it is nice to drive at times, but it does not feel like sim.
So in my opinion, LFS is the King.

Its very easy to be a PC sim snob and scoff at GT4, BUT, GT4 is a very good game/sim in its own right, show me another racing game/sim on ANY platform that gives you the chance to drive 700+ real life cars around the best digital rendition of the Nordschleife so far?.
Ok, so its not as realistic as LFS, TBH there is nothing that is, but that doesnt stop GT4 from being a great driving game, plus the physics are way, way advanced from GT3.

I'm not doubting that GT4 is not a very good game for the PS2, but it is not a true simulation, it was never designed to be, it was designed to be a fairly realistic game that can still be played on a joypad.

I can lap the ring in GT4 with an EVO VIII in less than 6min30seconds, and it easier with the gamepad than with the wheel, which defaults to 900°C turning circle with GT4 :/

haha. what kinda of tires were you using? if you can get around the ring with n2 or n3 tires in that time then you are not human. I've driven an evo8 MR in real life and the max lock was actually smaller than 900°. The car was slightly modified, but i think the steering is stock.

which shows pretty obviously that the game is arcadey ... afaik 6:30 is a group c time round the ring ... there is no way any street car could do a lap that fast

Ahh....but he didnt say that he has tuned the bejesus out of it and is running slick tyres did he.
Using N1 or N2 tyres and a no tuning aids makes it all the more realistic.
