Reason for disqualification

I've just joined the silver/gold server midway through a race and did 16 out of 24 laps not coming into contact with any other cars and set a new pb, but after crossing the finish line I got a message saying I'd been disqualified. What could be the reason for this?

Maybe you were speeding on pit road.

I figured it out as soon as I looked at the replay, I'd not seen the message about compulsory pit stops.

you're never allowed to speed through the pits

and thats offline or online, any server any time
