Is it possible to list and ban IP's of idiots on a server?
We have a demo and a full, unfortunately the demo occasionally gets lumbered with the odd moron from time to time, i can kick / ban by name but all they do is alter name to get in again.
Thanks

because your IP can change via click of 1 button ;)

A last resort option would be to introduce account-IDs for demo users too.
But then again, they could just create another account after being banned. Guess we can't really do anything about it, except going from door to door until we hunt down the very last of them :D

Im not saying i agree with trashing, but at least most of the idiots play the demo and not S2.

I can already see the news-line...
"A roving band of LiveForSpeed gamers caused global violance. Thousends of people were injured and tortured. All of the victims seem to have suffered from anti-social behaviour and low intellectual capacities. ... ... ..."
Great idea Rattus! We'll all go to jail!

You can use this:

This small utility will log all actions on your server with IP's.
A wrecker that get kicked , and refreshes his IP will always get a IP within the same range. This range can be blocked at your router/firewall.
2 major problems:
You will also block all other guests from the same ISP.
Tracking down the ISP's range is a lot of work..
(Can also be useful to find people spoofing ID's... )

It is NOT a good idea to block on IP for reasons already mentioned. If you block a range you will block EVERYONE that is connected through that ISP.

When you kick (in demo mode) it seems to kick by name. So a user can just change their name and log back in. But when you ban, at least from the server end, it appears to ban by IP. Some people will go to the trouble of changing their IP and coming back to cause more trouble, but they usually give up after a couple of tries. Expecially since it's so easy to ban someone if you have physical access to the server. It's just two clicks. :) Getting a new IP from your ISP can be a big pain, depending on how your server is setup and who your IP is. Most troublemakers don't seem to want to bother with the hassle.
This has been my (albeit, limited) experience hosting Demo games.

a good solution for that is a GUID (Global User ID ) as in Enemy Territory.
the ID gets created during the install and when u get a ban u need to uninstall completely and reinstall again. u will lose all ur settings ect. ect. ect. i think that should be included in LFS then i dont think the crashers wanna reinstall the game 100 times a day...
